Unfortunately I have to come back to update my review. I came here again for brunch at 1pm and it was pretty slow, not too many people were dining in at the time. We put our food order in (two queso hash's and a tomato soup) and waited ONE HOUR for the food to arrive, including the soup that was brought out with our entrees. During that hour wait we were not checked on at all which was frustrating not only because they didn't apologize for the wait but also because the gave us lemons for a sparkling water instead of likes like we asked - normally wouldn't be a big deal but that was just the icing on the cake. The food that came out tasted good which is why I'm giving 2 stars instead of one. But for a hash bowl that literally only has fried potatoes, bacon crumbles, queso and an egg ?! I could've made that at my house in half the time and it would've been just as good if not better. read more

We dined in a big group for a birthday celebration on 11/01 at noon.Let me start with the restaurant wasn't busy maybe 4 other tables in the whole place. I actually arrived late and my friends had not received food the ordered 45 minutes prior to my arrival. I always get the Brussel sprouts here and they are always amazing but not today. They are usually to have aioli and bread crumbs nope they were just roasted. I had to ask for sauce and it took the server forever to bring it back. O wanted this as an appetizer but the server never came back for me to order anything additional. My husband ordered the short rib skillet it was also missing components. Now on to the drinks I had the Irish coffee which was amazing and my husband had a spicy Bloody Mary also very good.The server didn't come back to check to see on us very often at all. There was a party of two next to us and they ordered well before we did and they said they'd been waiting almost an hour. The group I attended with was planned so they knew a large party was coming so staff should have been prepared. Our bill was 60ish dollars for subpar food. This place used to be really good but the last few times have been underwhelming. So if you decide to try here my only recommendation is the drinks. You may never get your food. read more

So for New Year's Eve my wife and another couple decided to go to Sol. We chose to go there because there was 80's band that in actuality was an acoustic duo that did not rock or play very well. Our server shared with us that the kitchen was busy and that it would take longer to get our food. We were understanding given the holiday and large crowd. We ordered at 8:30 pm est and received our dinner at 10:00 Pm est. My wife ordered a salad before dinner that did not arrive but it was on our check. Our drinks were priced at a premium but were not good at all. My wife ordered an Angels envy manhattan that was served in a small plastic cup that was half the size of a normal drink. Looking at our check we were charged 20.00. Our scallops were to only high point of the night. Our server was absent most of the night and was not attentive until it was time to settle up. I am very disappointed with the entire night and will not visit Sol again. read more

The guacamole was probably from yesterday; brown around the edges and under the toppings, also very bland. Did not taste lime juice or cilantro in the guac. Jerk chicken was nicely tender but unevenly spiced. Some bites were bland, others nicely spiced. The plantains were great! Scallops were just okay. The risotto was on the cold side of warm. The brussels sprouts were excellent. The pumpkin bread pudding was okay. Again, unenevenly spiced. The sauce was icing: water and confectioners sugar, not caramel or anything interesting. The place is beautiful, especially the patio. The wait staff was very good. I ordered a meat skillet for brunch. It had a half strip of bacon cut in tiny strips, two dime size pieces of sausage, half a rubbery scrambled egg served over a Luke warm bowl of potato cubes. I have been coming to this restaurant for their taco Tuesday. Their tacos have been excellent last night. I decided to try something different and had their hamburger. It was a double patty and the worst burger I've ever had. I'm not sure it was even 100% beef. it was very dry, hard, and tasteless. I will never get it again. Strongly advise against brunch. We ordered the skillets which were recommended by our server. After a 1hour and 15 minute wait, the food arrived cold, and the skillets were essentially bowls of deep-fried potato chunks. The mini waffles (to share) arrived at the same time, and tasted as if they had been made earlier and deep-fried to reheat. Very disappointing. The wait staff were not particularly attentive (had to ask a second time for ordered drinks, and again for utensils), but were very personable and pleasant. I can not stress how bad this food was. The salad was awesome. Everything else was not. This is the first time in my life I've ever had FISHY octopus. It was tender and grilled nicely. But had zero flavor aside from fish. The plantains were dry and tasteless as were the potatoes. The "Gazpacho" was worse. I understand how bread works as an addition to traditional gazpacho. This is not the way. It tasted like old tomato water with soggy old bread on top. Seriously bad. So so bad. The Bacon cheddar dip was intensely salty and strangely flavored. I'm guessing a commercial bacon or smoked seasoning is being overused. Still, it could not mask the flavor of the rancid oil on the crostini. WTAF?!? The street corn side looked beautiful. This is corn season. It was dried up, overcooked canned or cheap frozen corn and other than a weird rancid greasiness had no flavor. The kids herbed butter noodles were dry, herbless and flavorless. In my picture I tried to make them edible with the chimichurri sauce. Turns out the sauce is bitter and gross. No flavors but bitter metal. The stuffed pepper app looked great. But the combo of chorizo with sickly sweet, straight from a can, tomato sauce was off putting at best. It was however edible. Their packaging is awful for moist foods as they arrive soggy and the food dried out. I'm really thrown by this place. The chef does a decent job of presentation, but, either isn't tasting their food or lacks a good palate. Also, they are using low quality ingredients. Nice job on the remodeling, looks really nice. Our waitress did a fine job considering that even she had a hard time with the food and drinks menu. The disappointing thing is the price for the portion and preparation. Ordered the Yuka fries, they were cold, crammed into a way to small dish and taste like eating sticks. Had a Cubano sandwich, while the taste was just okay, it was definitely not worth $12. The sandwich consisted of one piece of ham, pulled pork that was dry, a piece of cheese that was so thin that I didn't even realize that there was even any cheese in the sandwich, a pickle and some kind of sauce (true Cubans use a Dijon mustard). The sandwich is supposed to be slightly pressed but this one was hard as a rock. I could have eaten 3 of them but not at $12 each. The Cuban at the Wild Goose is much better, bigger and way cheaper. Would I go back to Local Sol? Probably not unless they up the portions and lower the prices. Lunch set me back $70 for me and my wife and we left hungry. read more

We attended a brunch party at Sol. Great location, parking, private room. Food and drinks were good. They had a mimosa bar and the fresh juices were wonderful. Especially enjoyed the roasted pork loin..tender and tasty...a very pleasant surprise. We had eggs, potatoes, biscuits, choruzo sausage gravy, fruit salad. There is an outdoor patio too. This place was okay. Went on a date night and was looking for something new. I saw that this place had a nice outdoor space, and the food looked decent. The place has a nice set-up, where I feel like the restaurant can be divided into 3 different types of spaces. There's the front, where you can have an event, or convert it to a bar/happy hour space. Then there's the patio, complete with an outdoor (covered) fire pit - which wasn't turned on that evening. Then there's the "main" dining that also has a potential for a 2nd bar. I got the short rib, which was tasty and good, the grits was okay. Surprised me that there wasn't a vegetable, maybe carrots would have make this a more balanced meal? Not nutritionally, I just felt like it lacked something. Additionally, for the price, I wasn't thrilled. Wife got pulled chicken (more like blended chicken). Yes, there was a large scoop of it, but it certainly lacked any complexity that would have made this meal better. Finally, the service was friendly, but the pace in which the food is brought out, that took a long time. I have this place a 4/5 stars because it lacked the ability to "wow" us and it doesn't take much. We will be back IF invited by friends for drinks out in the patio. I had eaten here for breakfast before, and it was average that time, but this time around it took nearly a half hour to get our drinks for a group of four and another 30min for the food the food was then average (we only ordered apps) so we decided we were going to get our main meal elsewhere. after paying the bill, instead of helping clear up some of the table, the waitress simply took the check and walked away.... I was a waitress back in the day, and I don't believe that is proper etiquette. You were to leave that on the table until the guests leave.... Returned for brunch and bottomless mimosas. Love that there are four different mimosa flavor options and our server did a fantastic job about asking us about refills. Hate to say it, but the service is not as good as it used to be. Parking lot was $5. Service was very slow. One person in our group didn't get his food until all were done eating because "the cooks forgot the noodles weren't precooked". She gave him two free beers which I think is illegal to give out free alcohol. Also, the waitress called me out for drinking a mocktail, which I did not appreciate. We ate at Sol restaurant 11/5 and11/12. This restaurant advertises a 6 and 8 oz steak special on Wednesdays and wine is also discounted. We do drink wine but we heard the food was worth checking out. On 11/5, the food was fantastic. The wait staff was a little slow but overall experience was great. Because of that first experience we were excited to go back. 11/12 we ordered same dish with flatbread appetizer. Slow staff, switching out shifts, same as last time. Flatbread pear appetizer, a flat bread hard as a rock, basically grape jelly, a couple shavings of things to accent-cold and hard as a rock. steaks came out raw looking honestly like uncooked at all and cold. staff never came to see how our food was, an hour later, not eating our meals, i asked for one of the meals to be compensated granddaughter because ate none of her food since it was raw. i ate part of mine, very little. A manager came over but had to call and get permission to make any adjustments. The waitress had no authority, the manager had no authority, and a phone call was needed to make an adjustment for a this. they wrote off $8. We decided based on this last experience, honestly horrible-cold food, poor quality, waitress never returned for refills, check on food quality, never again. read more

I enjoyed my brunch here. We made reservations for a Saturday afternoon but it wasn't necessary as they still had plenty of seating inside and outside. We chose to sit outside in the patio, and had a great server who checked on us numerous times. No brunch is complete without drinks, so I ordered a pomegranate mimosa and a berry orange margarita. I preferred the margarita, though it wasn't as strong as I would've liked it. The highlight of my meal was the crab cake bennie. There was a good amount of crab meat and the egg was perfectly runny. I would definitely order this dish again. The home fries that came with the dish were just alright and could've used some seasoning, All in all, Sol is a good spot to stop at in Downtown Willoughby if you're in the mood for brunchin'. read more

This was a little bit of a drive for us but we definitely enjoyed it. The patio is absolutely gorgeous, well shaded so you're not getting blasted by the afternoon sun. Our service was great, kept our drinks full but not overbearing but also was very timely and knowledgeable about the area for other recommendations. My watermelon margarita was delicious, almost tasted like a watermelon jolly rancher but wasn't too sweet or sour like some margaritas. The chips and salsa were delicious and the salsa tasted very fresh. That was the theme of the whole meal was everything tasted very fresh. The tacos were delicious and well portioned, enough to fill you up but not enough that you feel absolutely stuffed. And we both loved the side of street corn, it's different than your typical Mexican sides but in my opinion so much better. We are already excited to come back and try the brunch! read more

After a Sunday morning hike through a local park, my husband and I literally stumbled upon this restaurant during brunch time. We had actually googled a different establishment, however while parking, we noticed Sol and its inviting appearance. So we decided to give it a try - why not?! Upon entrance, we weren't aware of the fact that reservation were required, however, the hostess was more than happy to accommodate us. The restaurant is airy with separate dining areas. I noticed a bar, a dining area with what "sounded" like live music, a covered patio in the rear, and our dining area which included a jumbo screen (perfect for Sunday football). The food was great as was the atmosphere- which was casual. We ordered chicken and waffles. As a side note, don't expect actual wings but rather breast slices (I believe). Nevertheless, it was wonderful, as were the mimosas and coffee. Portions were good, bathrooms were spotless, and the staff was friendly. We were pleasantly surprised! read more

Been a couple times over the last few months. Had again about 2 weekends ago. Giving a higher rating than I'd like because our server was nice and the PB martini was decent. Disappointed in how oily the home style potatoes always are and just all the food I general. I ordered the chicken and waffles, Avocado Toast, Cerveza Con Queso Hash. Ive even gotten just plain pancakes and they were not great. It's surprising how temperature wise the food is usually cold coming supposedly straight out of the kitchen. The salmon on the avocado toast was thick and cold. The waffle for the chicken and waffles was soggy. Every time Ive given Sol another chance, I regret it and my stomach does too. The food was delicious. They kept screwing up our drinks and charged us for it even though they screwed up our drinks twice. I did not realize that vodka seltzer was the same as pure Seltzer only. That was disappointing. The waitress really friendly which was a plus and the place was clean which was also a plus. The food we got was delicious. Three stars because there is room for improvement. I have gone to Sol twice at lunch. The food is always good but the service is generally soooooo slow. This time I was meeting a client and was about 15 minutes early . There we're no more than 6 people in the restaurant at 11:30 am. The water came out immediately and not too long a very nice waiter came over to take my order. I asked for a Diet cole with lemon . The lemon came about 10 minutes later . Once my client came we were chatting away and eventually got to order. The food was excellently prepared, flavorful and abundant . Over all the lunch was very good but in general very slow service . Overall the prices are competitive and the food is of good quality and great preparation . The queso is a MUST go and the chips are made from root vegetables and it's phenomenal. I seriously had a mouth watering meal where I scraped the plates clean. Called a month at least before Mother's Day to see if they were having a brunch or regular menu. I was told regular menu. I looked at the menu on line and saw several good dinner selections so reservations were made for 2pm. We got there and it was less than half full. We were given breakfast menus with a few sandwiches on the menu. I asked for the dinner menu and was told that only brunch is served on Sundays! We waited a full hour to get our barely above room temperature food. One of our party ate none of his order as it was that bad. Another had to have her burger remade without cheese as she had ordered in the first place. I refused a second mimosa and was offered nothing else to drink. When we finally got our check and left there was only one table of people in the whole restaurant. Four cooks that I could see were at the grill. It was a pathetic experience for any day let alone Mother's Day. I don't know how they stay in business. I couldn't wait to get home and make something good to eat. And to add insult to injury we had to pay for parking! Instead of answering bad reviews perhaps they should spend some time training their staff. read more
