    Short rib hash

We dined in a big group for a birthday celebration on 11/01 at noon.Let me start with the restaurant wasn't busy maybe 4 other tables in the whole place. I actually arrived late and my friends had not received food the ordered 45 minutes prior to my arrival. I always get the Brussel sprouts here and they are always amazing but not today. They are usually to have aioli and bread crumbs nope they were just roasted. I had to ask for sauce and it took the server forever to bring it back. O wanted this as an appetizer but the server never came back for me to order anything additional. My husband ordered the short rib skillet it was also missing components. Now on to the drinks I had the Irish coffee which was amazing and my husband had a spicy Bloody Mary also very good. The server didn't come back to check to see on us very often at all. There was a party of two next to us and they ordered well before we did and they said they'd been waiting almost an hour. The group I attended with was planned so they knew a large party was coming so staff should have been prepared. Our bill was 60ish dollars for subpar food. This place used to be really good but the last few times have been underwhelming. So if you decide to try here my only recommendation is the drinks. You may never get your food.

So for New Year's Eve my wife and another couple decided to go to Sol. We chose to go there because there was 80's band that in actuality was an acoustic duo that did not rock or play very well. Our server shared with us that the kitchen was busy and that it would take longer to get our food. We were understanding given the holiday and large crowd. We ordered at 8:30 pm est and received our dinner at 10:00 Pm est. My wife ordered a salad before dinner that did not arrive but it was on our check. Our drinks were priced at a premium but were not good at all. My wife ordered an Angels envy manhattan that was served in a small plastic cup that was half the size of a normal drink. Looking at our check we were charged 20.00. Our scallops were to only high point of the night. Our server was absent most of the night and was not attentive until it was time to settle up. I am very disappointed with the entire night and will not visit Sol again.

pumpkin bread pudding .. you can see the sauce is just icing

Service was great. Nice ambiance. Bar did not seem ready for service. Box, cleaning stuff on the bar. The salsa was interesting, more sweet than spicy. The guacamole was probably from yesterday; brown around the edges and under the toppings, also very bland. Did not taste lime juice or cilantro in the guac. Jerk chicken was nicely tender but unevenly spiced. Some bites were bland, others nicely spiced. The plantains were great! Scallops were just okay. The risotto was on the cold side of warm. The brussels sprouts were excellent. The pumpkin bread pudding was okay. Again, unenevenly spiced. The sauce was icing: water and confectioners sugar, not caramel or anything interesting. The house wine was surprisingly good. We will try again.

I can not stress how bad this food was. The salad was awesome. Everything else was not. This is the first time in my life I've ever had FISHY octopus. It was tender and grilled nicely. But had zero flavor aside from fish. The plantains were dry and tasteless as were the potatoes. The "Gazpacho" was worse. I understand how bread works as an addition to traditional gazpacho. This is not the way. It tasted like old tomato water with soggy old bread on top. Seriously bad. So so bad. The Bacon cheddar dip was intensely salty and strangely flavored. I'm guessing a commercial bacon or smoked seasoning is being overused. Still, it could not mask the flavor of the rancid oil on the crostini. WTAF?!? The street corn side looked beautiful. This is corn season. It was dried up, overcooked canned or cheap frozen corn and other than a weird rancid greasiness had no flavor. The kids herbed butter noodles were dry, herbless and flavorless. In my picture I tried to make them edible with the chimichurri sauce. Turns out the sauce is bitter and gross. No flavors but bitter metal. The stuffed pepper app looked great. But the combo of chorizo with sickly sweet, straight from a can, tomato sauce was off putting at best. It was however edible. Their packaging is awful for moist foods as they arrive soggy and the food dried out. I'm really thrown by this place. The chef does a decent job of presentation, but, either isn't tasting their food or lacks a good palate. Also, they are using low quality ingredients. Definitely not worth the very high price, don't let the pretty pics fool you.

Got take out for burger week. Had the Amore burger. Interesting combination of toppings that we were looking forward to trying. Seemed to lack flavor. Was surprised a burger patty that small was not a double stack. Good fries and nice cheese quesadilla.

This place was okay. Went on a date night and was looking for something new. I saw that this place had a nice outdoor space, and the food looked decent. The place has a nice set-up, where I feel like the restaurant can be divided into 3 different types of spaces. There's the front, where you can have an event, or convert it to a bar/happy hour space. Then there's the patio, complete with an outdoor (covered) fire pit - which wasn't turned on that evening. Then there's the "main" dining that also has a potential for a 2nd bar. I got the short rib, which was tasty and good, the grits was okay. Surprised me that there wasn't a vegetable, maybe carrots would have make this a more balanced meal? Not nutritionally, I just felt like it lacked something. Additionally, for the price, I wasn't thrilled. Wife got pulled chicken (more like blended chicken). Yes, there was a large scoop of it, but it certainly lacked any complexity that would have made this meal better. Finally, the service was friendly, but the pace in which the food is brought out, that took a long time. I have this place a 4/5 stars because it lacked the ability to "wow" us and it doesn't take much. We will be back IF invited by friends for drinks out in the patio. Otherwise, for the food.....we'll strongly recommend somewhere else.

The vegan chorizo tacos are so flavorful and are complimented well by the aioli sauce.

"Hook and Hoof" has been in downtown Willoughby for quite a while so they must be doing something right. And the fact that there aren't that many high level dining establishments in the Willoughby area helps. The first thing I noticed was the facility is very narrow which lends to a crowded feel. And all you need is one overly boisterous table (which was right next to us) and the noise level can be overwhelming. The server we had for the evening was very pleasant. She did a good job being timely with everything. But, it was odd that she often did not listen to an entire request (or maybe just couldn't hear) before walking away. There were a couple of requests for simple standard items that she wasn't even sure they had. I just found it odd. The food however was excellent. The kitchen staff did an exemplary job all night. I had a marvelous cocktail from the well stocked bar. And my double cut pork chop was fantastic. So full of flavor, juicy, cooked exactly as I requested. The sides that accompanied it were just tender enough without being mushy. And my banana cream pie was great. Overall, I give "Hook and Hoof" a solid 4. I definitely can see us going back. They deserve another try. You should give them a try and see for yourself.

The prices were astronomical so my daughter and I just ordered meatballs and potato wedges. I really wanted fish but there was only ONE fish dish on the menu and I didn't like how it was going to be prepared. There's a big disclaimer at the bottom of the menu that says "no substitutions or modifications". Geez, for a $40 fish plate you couldn't have modified it for me?? The meatballs were good, but came out luke warm. The wedges were good. The atmosphere was nice. For 3 meatballs, 5 potato wedges, and a 15% tip (she lost 5% due to not asking us for drinks) our bill came to $45. I *wish* I was joking. We won't be back. I honestly feel like I just got ripped off.

If we were not looking for this place specifically, I know we would've driven right past it! It's a standalone little building and the only markings I saw outside was a little sign that said BAR. But it was 2 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon and there were several cars in the parking lot, which is a good sign. The inside is really tiny. There's a large U-shaped bar and about six tables. We looked in the menu and opted for their famous Smashburger. It is $14 and comes with fries. It is a double patty cheeseburger. I did not want a burger that big so I opted for just one Patty. They said that was no problem, but the price was still the same. I also got onion rings, which were $3 more. The food came out really fast and you could tell it came right out of the fryer because the french fries were super hot! This place is called a dive bar, and I guess it is - but on a Saturday afternoon, the place was filled with all kinds of people. On one side of us was a family with little kids. On the other side of us was a couple in their 20s. And then the rest of the place was filled with people from every age group. I have to say that the music they play there is fabulous! But back to the food. The burger was seasoned really well! It is a smash burger, but they're still able to make it crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Our server was really good. She did not hover, but she was around to see if you need anything. Depending on the vibe that you're looking for, if you want more of a bar vibe, you should go in the evening, but we were happy to just be in a relaxed little joint with good food. They opened up another Crowley's in Painesville so we will probably have to try that one too.

Both were very pleasant with us but not very attentive. Food was good. Witnessed multiple people coming to the bar and waiting to be served and leaving without being helped after several minutes. The bar was not that busy and had many open seats mind you. I will mention, I put myself through school being a bartender and I know that letting loose with regulars helped build lasting friendships but I could never imagine getting that intoxicated while at work. I'm hoping that the owners of this bar aren't loosing their asses on giving away merchandise. If I was the owner, I would literally fire everyone but the cook. if you want a freak show....
