Went to Sunset Kitchen in University Circle the other night. The bartender was super kind and welcoming. I had the wings and fries, and they were... just okay. Nothing to write home about. But the seafood rolls were delicious I definitely recommend those. Now, my biggest issue: they had the garage-style doors wide open , and it was freezing. Sunset Kitchen seems like the right choice, especially with its stunning, Pinterest-worthy decor. This was my third visit, hoping for a better experience after two underwhelming ones. Unfortunately, it confirmed what I had hoped wasn't true: the vibe just doesn't match the execution. While the decor is undeniably photo-ready and the bartenders (especially Brittany) bring great energy and solid drinks--the rest of the experience needs serious attention. Over the last 3 visits, my reservation was lost, hosts barely acknowledged guests, and there was no visible management to help resolve anything. We encountered long waits, inconsistent food temperatures, poor plating, and sticky, outdated menus that didn't reflect what was actually available. If you do decide to give it a try, I recommend Brittany's watermelon or peach lemon drop and the crab cakes. Both were solid. But based on all three visits, here's the pattern: something will arrive cold, something will be missing, and you'll likely be waiting longer than expected. Hosts seem untrained or overwhelmed, food service is staggered, and management is either absent or ineffective. The bartenders make you want to come back--but the inconsistency makes it hard to justify doing so again. Sunset Kitchen is at a prime location right in University Circle. We got the Shrimp & Grits. It's so creamy and the cajun gravy on top is incredibly flavorful, full of spices, shrimps were cooked and seasoned so well. This is definitely comfort in a bowl! We also really enjoyed the French toast. They use challah bread for a local bakery, topped with powdered sugar, a drizzle of syrup, strawberries, and grapes. We came in for a weekday brunch during our visit to Cleveland. Came across this location and was pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately our experience wasn't good at Sunset Kitchen. When we were seated we didn't have menus or any silverware. We ordered the exact same thing at the same time, mine came out first which was COLD, I had lamb chops, scrambled eggs, potatoes and fruit (mind you we still don't have silverware) and it was about 15-17 minutes before they brought out my boyfriend's food. I informed our waitress my food was cold and I needed silverware, she took it back but when she brought it back it was still COLD. I asked for cheese in my scrambled eggs and they didn't have any in it. So trying to be considerate and not be that selfish customer I didn't eat my lamb chops and decide to just heat them up when I got home. Well we go home to "heat" them up and we realized it's uncooked. Now that is what did it for me. We paid way too much money for four lamb chops that still needed to be cooked. I could've went to the store and cooked them myself for all this! The vibe is very much club culture the music is too loud to have any conversation without screaming, the DJ plays the same songs over and over, the restaurant itself is very compact, and maybe that just the ceiling being so low but it's tight in there. The only positive thing out of all of this was that our server who didn't give us her name was pleasant. But we will not be back and I highly suggest if you do go don't have any standards set so you won't be completely disappointed like we were. read more

Sunset Kitchen has some great qualities, but my experience was mixed. The food is delicious, with a menu that offers a variety of flavorful and well-prepared dishes. The ambiance is warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a relaxed meal with friends or family. However, the service was very slow during our visit. Upstairs, someone was having a party, so I'm guessing that's why it was slow. Parking can be tough to figure out, and it was difficult to find the entrance on time. A sign pointing to the door would be very helpful. I ordered an Old Fashioned, which was decent, but when I tried to order another, the waitress was extremely busy, so I went to the bar myself. It was the worst Old Fashioned I've ever had--I legit don't know what I was drinking. Despite these issues, I especially loved the Turkey Burger. If you're looking for a dining experience, Sunset Kitchen has potential but be aware of these points. I will give another try considering how busy they were. read more

Everything should be improved. I first waited for my food a whole hour. The mimosa were straight wine no juice. Was served a $30 meal with a pork. Other patrons came a left with no explanation as to why my service took so long for Crabcakes grits and an egg. Service was so bad, I left the food and the drink. Ordered a take out. 2 burgers. 1 salad. 1 chicken wings. They called and said they ran out of France fries for the burgers they asked me if I want street corn instead I said yes. and to my surprise there was no street corn burger only. Food was cold dry and didn't look good. The salad size was a joke if you can call it a salad 3 pieces of arugula with some kind of ranch and little bit of chees ? Was very expensive as well. I went today in celebration of a birthday in which we were a larger group. It was a group of 15 in which they were not prepared for even though we had a 1:15 reservation. We waited cramped in what is supposed to be the party room that does not seat 15 people comfortably. Finally they were able to accommodate us at a table around 1:45. They waitress then began to take orders and I'll give her 50/50 on hospitality because she was not one to smile, everyone did not have menus we were passing around about 6 menus among each other. Once the orders were taken and drinks came out it took food about a hour before it started to come out and it was coming out sporadically. We did not have silverware and had to ask for it. My husband got his food like 30 minutes before me and not all his items were present. There were two tables of 4 people that got their food before several of us and they came in way after us. I had an alcoholic beverage and no food so I could not drink because I had not ate yet today. Then the food was only barely warm when it did come out. The manager/owner never did come over to the table to offer an apology for the poor service but did opt to discount the bill for those that did not receive their food until everyone else was done eating. And mind you I only had chicken and waffles and didn't receive it to last. Which goes to show that there is no organization in the kitchen. The music is overwhelmingly loud! I appreciate the DJ and the vibe of him being there at a brunch setting but the spot is not that large for the volume. I give props to the bartender if nothing else because my drink was really good even though I could only sip it for fear of getting sick drinking on a empty stomach. Needless to say I will not be returning to this establishment unless I hear or read reviews that a whole 360 has taken place. I love to support us but I also expect top tier service because black owned businesses don't get they just do and sometimes we have to show up and show out. read more
