What a fantastic find! On a busy Sunday afternoon in Westport, this almost hidden gem can be found up a flight of stairs across street from Matt Molloy's. There was a set Sunday menu but we decided to go a la carte and grab some fresh, raw oysters. Outstanding. They literally taste like the sea...more briny than the ones I've had back on the coasts of the US. We shared a chicken wrap and it was more than enough for lunch. Flavors were fresh and bright. Service was great and the desserts looked awesome...but we were saving room for our evening meal. Looks like beer and wine only; I didn't see any cocktails or whiskey on the drink menu. Fantastic experience! Recommend by our taxi driver, this was our dinner stop off before live music in the evening. Started with some cooked oysters and fish chowder ( highly recommend). Their brown bread with the fresh butter and side of olive tapenade was a beautiful touch. I had the Ragu with pork and duck. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the sauce was very tasty. Ended the meal with the leprechaun special cocktail that was packed with a punch. Overall such a tasty experience. Really glad we were directed to here. I have nothing but great things to say about this restaurant! Friendly staff, homely feel, unpretentious yet decadent in all aspects. The seafood was absolutely divine, we had the fresh oysters and mussels... the broth served with the mussels was amazing. My boyfriend had the lamb rack & duck medley... presented beautifully and tasted even better. I had the arroz de marisco, had the perfect selection of seafood and made in a fine sauce and rice. Prices are very reasonable, especially the wine. If in Westport, definitely give this place a visit! read more

Unpretentious and genuinely worth adding to your Westport visit. Upstairs so easy to walk past unless you realise it's there.I can vouch for a simply excellent seafood starter and main course. Baked Oysters, Mussels, Scallops, Crab Claws, Smoked Salmon with cream cheese. Light sauce to compliment and a good, well priced wine menu. Service was friendly and swift. Menu also has Pasta, Vegetarian and Steaks so something for all. To my mind simple decor with the effor spent on serving great food. Book it. read more

One of my best meals in Westport; I must say the standard of restaurants in this charming town is pretty high. Food was excellently prepared and very delicious although it'll be wise to ask what is not available (before you set you heart on it!) as they are dependent on the daily haul of the local fishermen. Wine available by the carafe which is always a plus for me so the OH can order his red, and me a white and get sufficiently tiddly! read more

This is a nice restaurant on the first and second floor with a good view on Bridge street, one of Westport's main streets. Food on the menu seems to be quite expensive at first (at least it did to us) but is quite on par with the other restaurants nearby. While we were there, they offered a special menu with a selection of starter, main course and dessert for 25,95EUR which is a good offer. For starter I chose Duck (with a french surname I can't remember ;-)). This was really good, it was basically roasted duck bits on toast and onions with some rucola on top, combined with apple sauce. An unusual combination which tasted very good. Main course was lamp chop with goat cheese on mashed potatoes and a red whine sauce. Excellent except that this came with two side bowls with vegetables and French Fries. The vegetables were okay, but the fries really didn't fit with it and weren't very good either. For desert I chose Applepie with ice cream. The plate I got looked really amazing, unfortunately the taste wasn't as great. The pie's dough was too dry, vanilla ice ceam would have better fitted than the chosen strawberry flavor and the additional berries where clearly thawed frozen food and tasted of nothing. I got pretty good food for the money, but the little flaws made it hard to fully enjoy the meal here. read more

Summer in Westport is a frantically busy time for all businesses, they have to make cash while the sun shines and the tourists are plenty. You take this sort of thing into account when you are around the town and epically when it comes time for lunch - you know the shop will be busy, you know you will most likely be waiting a while. So that was last summer, we did indeed wait a while, but the food was worth it and not massively expensive. Today (mid April), the café was empty, the tumbleweed had to be moved before we took our seats. Still the service was unbearably slow.. again, not bad food (we had the special - a ham and cheese omelette), but sweet sweet baby beebus, slllooooowwww. Coffee is also very good by the way, and mother in law raves about the custard tarts. read more

Excellent main courses (I didn't try or want the Italian part of the menu, though the Portuguese rice dish was amazing). The gluten free chocolate cake was absolutely amazing. Great wine menu, dessert wines, huge dessert menu, and a couple craft beers to choose from. Try the mussels as a starter. Nice staff. A real treat. Casual environment with good food. Visiting Westport for the first time, I had stayed classic and went with the cottage pie...and it was delicious. The manager and waitress were welcoming and hospitable tour guides as well as waitstaff. They were very accommodating with our toddler as well, rushing his food so he could eat first. The host was rude. When sitting us down we kindly asked for water and she said 'oh I don't do that, you'll have to wait for the waitress'. Asked twice for water and finally went up and got it ourselves. The waitress was a young girl clearly in training with no guidance. Food was okay. We ate here on a weekend holiday. Good service, the waitress was a seasoned one. It was hard to find a place open on a monday night and Sol Rio was. I thought they would have more of a Latin vibe, but they didn't. The food was decent and tasty but quite overpriced for what it was. The decor is cool and the place is small and cosy up a flight of stairs. Overall not a bad experience but probably wouldn't eat their again. read more

Amazing combinations from the beet root and goat cheese salad, the main dishes of arroz de marisco and crespelle vegetariano to finishing with lemon torte and coffee's was one of the most delightful evenings of flavor served in a quiet peaceful atmosphere. Should I return to the Westport area, I would definitely not miss the chance to dine there again. The staff has extremely helpful but not hovering. A truly delightful experience. read more
