I think it's fair to say that most service in Ireland is friendly. Not the fastest to be sure. But typically the food is hearty, hot & well prepared. Not the case here. The fish stew was the exception. But my "chicken" club came out barely warm, not toasty, the chicken was actually grey, the lettuce limp & the tomato had had better days, & they forgot the mayo, & the chip oil needed changing! Even my Smithwicks on tap didn't taste fresh & crisp. Much better choices here in Westport. read more

The restaurant food was average. I ordered the steak sandwich and is was passable, although nothing great. The service was good as well as the Guinness. Can't really mess that up in Ireland though. read more

This pub/restaurant is a good choice for a family dinner. They also have a KILLER bowl of chowder that has won numerous awards. The interior looks new or else recently renovated and while it still has a pubby rustic atmosphere, it's very bright and large. The food is prepared freshly and not thrown together by a 15 year old who just learned to use a fryer. Our chicken fingers were freshly breaded and the seafood chowder was outstanding. Several people at the table next to us ordered the fish and chips which by the looks of it was a winner as well. Good service, moderately slow kitchen (although worth it if the food is fresh). Lobster and crab tortellini. Really was ravioli. Nice size serving for 9 euro. Nice bite to the pasta. Filling had nice flavor. My wife had cottage pie. We would have called it sheep pares pie. She liked it. Banoffie pie for desert. Very mild in flavor but nice and served with ice cream. We took some home for another meal. 38 euro with a glass of wine and a pint of beer. Service was fine. Came here because of the nice location hoping for some good food but we sadly discovered that the location was the only good thing there. For starters my brother ordered a coke with no ice so they brought the cup only half full!!!!! We waited at least 45 minutes before getting served and when the food finally arrived The Thai curry we ordered had barely any spices and had few pieces of chicken. The rice was supposed to be basmati but was absolutely not. The ceaser salad had more bacon then salad and the chicken and cheese panini was small. The hamburger had more bread than meat. Went here twice in our couple of days in the town. Party of six both times and most people were quite happy. Vegetarian burger was not good though. However, I made this account for the sole purpose of mentioning their chicken wings. I was there about a month ago and I'm still thinking about them. Best wings I've ever had. On a visit to Westport last weekend we booked a table in the restaurant and informed the girl who took the booking that it was for a special anniversary. On arrival our server told us that they had taken a stag party up to the restaurant and showed us a small table for two stuck under the stsirs in bar. When we expressed our dissapointment all that was offered was a half hearted apology. When pressed she said and i quote THIS IS WHO WE ARE AND THIS IS WHAT WE DO. . If you are looking for bar food it might be o.k. but we left very dissapointed. If you want anything better go somewhere else. read more

Didn't drink but the bar was hopping and the crowd was watching a football (soccer) game and that was fun to watch without even knowing who was playing. These folks are serious about football! We had the lunch special cottage pie with chips and a mixed salad for 10 euro each and it was darned good. Eating isn't cheap in Ireland but places like this make it worth the cost. They had a M-F lunch special advertised for a grilled sandwich and a pint for 7 euro. How you gonna beat that? read more
