I can't say enough good things about Woodfire pizza in Westport. Honestly, it was a shocking surprise to find pizza of this quality . As a dedicated pizza snob, and a fan of New Haven style apizza, it was a welcome surprise for us (although the style is more Napolitano). Linda and the crew there are super nice, and the pizzas are pure genius. I can't say a single negative thing about it. We spent the month of January living in the Westport area, hoping to move there. We went to Woodfire multiple times and loved it every time. We even told Linda that their pizza is one of the reasons we were considering moving there.

Fantastic pizza! Hubs said this was one of the best he's ever had. Beautiful dough that is chewy and flavorful. Fresh mozzarella too. I had a salad that was quite good. And big! I ordered the small. I'm sure the large would have been enormous. Make a reservation as they get quite busy.

Clearly states it opens at 4PM

We wanted to try Woodfire's lamb burger while visiting relatives in Westport. We arrived at 4PM as stated in in their online posting. The owner said, "The oven isn't ready come back in 20 minutes." We came back at 4:30PM. The proprietor said, "We're still not ready." My husband and I had an appointment at 6PM so we decided to come back at 7:30PM. At this point the proprietor, looking at her reservation book [I didn't even realize they had reservations as this wasn't mentioned on their website. It would've been professional of her to have offered this option @ 4PM and again at 4:30PM.] and Woodfire's owner said, "We can take you at 8:45PM." I observed 1/2 of the restaurant had empty booths and some exiting patrons offered us their seats. Woodfire closed at 9:00PM so the idea of eating while sullen staff stink eyed us didn't seem like a solid option. We then said, "Well, we'd like to take away a lamb burger." She said, "Come back in 15 minutes." We went back, where it was evident the owner was more concerned with socializing rather than service. Staff wouldn't make eye contact with us which was very strange as my husband and both work in the service industry. We then asked about the takeaway order. Blank stare. I understand the GAA Dublin versus Kerry game was July 30, 2023; however, the owner could have posted the restaurant was closed for a special event, and catering solely to locals. We observed poor logistics, management We were so frustrated by Westport Woodfire's poor management and service, we left and had a lovely dinner at Westport Kebabs. https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g186627-d12512192-r907993314-Westport_Woodfire-Westport_County_Mayo_Western_Ireland.html#

Nice selection of pizzas with lots of vegetarian and meat options. Really hit the spot with local Meccan beer!

Great dinner spot in Sligo!…read more When we arrived, it was busy but we were seated right away to a table. We ordered penne al salmone, fettuccine abruzzo and garlic and cheese chips as a side. The penne al salmone was a creamy tomato pasta with smoked salmon. This was saucy and so delicious! The fettuccine abruzzo was a creamy cheese sauce with pancetta, peas and mushrooms. Both pasta dishes were great. The garlic and cheese chips were also yummy. Service was efficient and friendly as well. Overall, awesome Italian food which exceeded our expectations.

I ordered the carbonara, but it was extremely salty and eggy -- I only managed three bites before I let the staff know it wasn't edible. Instead of offering to replace the meal or help in any way, they just took the plate without saying a word. No one checked in, and no effort was made to resolve the issue. Then, to top it off, I was still charged €10.50 for the dish I couldn't eat. When I asked for the manager, a staff member said she was the manager, but never introduced herself or showed any care about the situation. She said I was charged because I "gave back the food." It's not about the money -- it's about the complete lack of customer care or professionalism. We left extremely disappointed and won't be returning. I wouldn't recommend Rugantino to anyone.

Sometimes you just get lucky when you choose a restaurant in a foreign country. We hit the jackpot…read morewhen we chose the Italian restaurant, Passione da Simone (also known as Passione by the Slice). It was opened 8 months previously by Simone Volante, who had immigrated to Sligo from Monte Cassino (a town north of Naples). If you live in Sligo, we highly recommend that you come to this restaurant as soon as you can. This restaurant was like being in Italy - the food was freshly prepared with the best Italian ingredients. Simone was so animated and fun to talk to and with. The menu is all Italian and quite extensive, plus Simone will customize any dish just for you. We started our meal with a bottle of Rosso Piceno Red Wine - a full bodied and really good wine. For our appetizer, we had the Caprese - fresh Burrata cheese with freshly sliced tomatoes, Italian extra virgin olive oil, salt and basil; on homemade, focaccia bread. I was so excited to see Arancini on the menu and had to have one. This is a Carnaroli rice ball coated with bread crumbs and stuffed with porcini mushroom and mozzarella. Wow - what a start - both were beyond delicious. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his Tagliatelle alla Bolognese. Simone suggested that he make me a special dish of Tagliatelle with Pancetta, Funghi Porcini, Truffle and Stracciatella cheese sauce. This pasta dish was over the top in flavour. Thank you, Simone, I loved it! We finished the bottle of wine; so, my husband had a glass of Primitivo. To end our fabulous meal, we split a Tiramisu - Italian cookies soaked in coffee and amaretto liqueur; with sweet mascarpone cream. We liked this restaurant so much; we went back two days later. Simone was as welcoming as the first time - now we were family! We liked the wine we had the first time, so we ordered another bottle of the Rosso Piceno. Our starter this time was the Bruschetta di Terra - toasted bread topped with speck and gorgonzola cheese. We enjoyed Tagliatelle alla Cacciatora and Lasagne. My husband likes his sweets; so, he finished with a Cuore di Ciccolato -a chocolate lava cake topped with whipped cream. I wished we lived in Sligo; this would be our go-to place for Italian food. Thank you Simone for another delicious and entertaining evening with you!
