My husband ordered a chili Colorado burrito. All he could taste was red chili powder. He ordered a beer, it came ,it was frozen. The lady brought him another beer, it also was frozen. When he paid the bill, he had to ask to have the beer taken off the bill. My meal was okay but it was very salty. We both love salsa, it also tasted like strong red chili powder. Waitstaff: very harried; running over each other; didn't appear to be sections; older guy acted like Lurch from the Adams family (unpleasant, no smile, seemed irritated w/???s, super sober); sign says wait to be seated then have someone holler across the dining area to sit anywhere Food: huge portions; zero salt; chimichanga was all tortilla (no rice or lettuce I asked subbed for beans), greasy/flavorless rice; sauce over signature burrito was watery/almost clear; did I mention ZERO salt; all flavors were flat You wanna give the benefit of the doubt...everyone has a bad day. We ordered the Pescado val day which was halibut in tomatillo sauce with mushrooms; a combo plate with a fish taco and a chili behino; and fish enchilada. Maybe your detecting a theme? But you know, it's on the coast and the fish is good and everything was nicely done. The beans were tasty. The table salsa was nothing special, and maybe even subpar. Stopped at this cute place on a rainy evening on our road trip. The restaurant is clean and cozy and the staff is friendly. They offered chips and salsa which has a nice kick in it, and one could not stop eating the salsa. I ordered the Skirt Steak with Garlic Shrimp and Mushroom, it came in good portion with re-fried beans and rice, the taste was very good, especially the sauteed mushroom was very flavorful. My lady had the Chile Verde. It's served with flour tortillas on the side which came steamy and the bit chewy texture was wonderful with the pork dish nicely cooked in green tomato sauce. A tasteful dish and the right amount of food . We both consumed our meal completely and then served a nice complimentary touch of fried tortilla chip with cinnamon sugar and whipped cream for dessert to top off our dinner. Sol De Mexico is a gem in this remote area on the Oregon coastline. I highly recommend this restaurant if anyone on the road seeking for decent food, good service and reasonable price. We were taking a break from our usual camping meal cup of noodles and stopped here on a recommendation from another business. The portions are HUGE. The food was hearty and flavorful. The margaritas were ginormous. Every member of the waitstaff was very friendly and efficient. We stopped in a year ago and the food was great. We were there again this last week. The cheese enchilada dinner was under done whereas my order of sauted shrimp and mushrooms was opposite. Whoever wrote that two star review needs a new set of tastebuds and a new set of glasses. This place is phenomenal. The staff? Amazing, friendly, helpful, sociable and caring. The food? Tasty, delectable, sensational. The tamale? Great. Burrito? Even better. Tomatillo sauce is to die for and was especially good on the enchilada. Every platter I sampled was simply amazing. Came here while on a road trip. I will just say now the reason why i gave it 4 stars is because the food although it was good it wasnt authentic, and it was just pretty good. I save my 5 stars for really impressive experiences. I ordered a burrito and a margarita, the food was the perfect amount, and left me comfortably full. They also give chips and salsa which was also good. This might seem like a odd thing to comment on but ive found you can tell a lot about a place on how clean their bathrooms are, thwy have a bathroom that you have to go out side and around the building to use, i always see that as a bad sign but i was surprised by how clean it was and you can tell they put efforts into making it cute LOL yea thats a weird thing to put in a review but its something i pay attention to. Mixed feelings about this place. The food was good going down - quite good in fact. Everyone in our party seemed to enjoy their meal, but as a writer and someone who observes things others may not care about... I had a very difficult time figuring out why they'd leave one run down building only to find another! IF by chance you need a restroom, be prepared to walk outside to use one. This is an old taco time building that should have been renovated entirely before opening a sit-down restaurant. If you can ignore some of the obviously less than professional attributes to the building itself, the food is actually quite good. I liked it far more as I was eating it than I did for the remainder of the day. Sorry to be so graphic, but that's how I judge a good/not good mexican restaurant. How does it settle on the tum-tum? Live in Southern California. Like to find good Mexican Food. We are rving at Winchester Bay, Oregon. We went to dinner last night June, 6, 2021. Sol De Mexico, has good reviews, so we tried it. My wife got an enchilada and a shredded beef taco. I ordered Carne Asada. Let me say this. The margarita was good, real good. The chips and salsa was real good. The beans, rice, tortillas, the Jalapenos good. This is what good Mexican food is all about. All other Mexican Food Restaurants, should come eat here, and aspire to become this good. Damn, this place is deceptive. Outside it looks like someone beat it with an old shoe and your sure to receive some form of revenge if you eat the fare. Boy it couldnt be farther from the truth. I would say 5, but I suppose I need to leave room for error. It is very much like the Mexican places we would all eat at in my old hometown, even with that super authentic blahbitty blah around. It's good old fashioned American Mexican. Yup. just went for the 5 stars as I just remembered something important: FRESH PRODUCE!!! With the cost and availability, I was pleased that they had really fresh everything that grows in the ground and the prices were still very reasonable. Our waitress was super sweet and attentive. Chips and salsa: delicious Also, we got a pico de gallo type dish with our chips that is perhaps authentic, don't know of another name, but it had a little cabbage?? But it was really, really good. Definitely if I was a chips and salsa and margarita person, I would ask for mounds of that. My visiting parents had veggie burritos, and I had nachos with no meat so I can't say if the meat and fish items were good. If they aren't, I'd be surprised. As far as the building mentioned in another review, sure it could be better, but a lot of the buildings here could be nicer looking, but they aren't and it fits it. It's clean, the booths are comfortable, the staff is friendly, and the food is good. I hope they stick around. I'd definitely do take-out. Was not impressed. I hope to give it another try sometime when I have the time to go in and sit down to eat. We ordered our food to go, and it was placed in a cheap paper plate with another one stapled to the top to keep it from spilling....... The refried beans were liquid, and the rice was watery and it all mixed in together on the plate and seaped into eachother and was just not very good. The tacos weren't too bad, but were covered in liquid refried beans and rice... The atmosphere was nice though. I hope to go in and sit down and try again, maybe order something else next time. It was a bad first experience, but I wanna give them the benefit of the doubt and try another menu item. read more
