True definition of a hidden gem! This place is very unassuming from the outside. They have a few tables if you want to dine in or you can order takeout as well. The employee working was so kind and offered recommendations that were delicious. The price point for the quality and quantity of food is really great. We left very full, with a little bit of leftovers, for $40 (2 of us). I highly recommend the sandwiches and cornbread! Would definitely eat here again. read more

I heard solid reviews about this BBQ joint on Pittsburgh Foodies FB group so I decided that me & hubs had to try it. We came here on a Sunday & despite it being the end of the week & the end of the day, the food was still delicious. However, I will DEFINITELY come back earlier in the day. IThe dudes up front were super friendly & prideful about their menu. They suggested I follow them on FB to stay alerted on the specials. I'm so excited to come back because our meal was bomb. We opted for a platter of Brisket, Jerk Chicken & pulled pork with classic sides. The mango habenero sauce, mustard base sauce and sweet BBQ sauce were tasty. I am not usually one who writes reviews but hopefully this will help the owners. My experience at Sokah was not a very good one. First of all I was only ordering for myself and it came to over $50. What I got was 2 oxtails (one big, one small), 2 small rib bones, rice and beans, greens and a beef patty. I think I would have still been upset with the $50 price tag but what would have eased my pain is some good food. The oxtails though tender were dry and salty, the greens had too many stems, the ribs were just ok, the little piece of corn bread that the server gave although excellent had been sitting out, and the beef patty had too much dough and not enough filling. I do want to support local business, however, I just fed 3 adults and two kids for $76 for a lot more food that was completely satisfying. I don't think I will go back again. read more

Was browsing for food late night 2 weeks ago, happened across this restaurant on my map app ~ Fantastic little spot! Delicious food, all around. Tried a grab bag of most of the meats and sides. Didn't have a bad bite! Could have been faster service, but again, I got there late. Would need to visit again to see if that's a real issue or not. I have been putting off for so long. I am beyond happy I finally pulled the trigger. This is American style bbq paired with Caribbean flavoring. Brilliant fusion. Fucking brilliant. The chicken. I happened to be first person to try their new way of serving it. They switch over to a wet brine which you typically tend to have top sacrifice flavor of the meat for fall apart texture. Sure AS FUCK DID NOT happen here. Also get dark or white meat option. As it should be. And the choice should always be dark The oxtail.. this is one of THEE BEST meats I've ever had. The seasoning on it was perfection with a subtle back end spice. The rich beefiness paired with the smokiness paired with their speciality seasoning. Fucking hell. I just can't get over that They also happened to be introducing their new menu item the brisket cheesesteak. Brisket was solid. Wasn't the best I've ever had. Still not bad by any means. Flavored well, onions sautéed great, bun nice and soft. Sides. Cornbread is elevated boxed cornbread. It has the sweetness you should naturally get with it and not overpowering corn taste. About a 60/40 sweet to corn ratio FRIED CABBAGE. GET THE FUCK OUT. GET THAT. Mac N cheese. Not a fan. But also I do not like Mac n cheese to begin with but will always try. This place is a perfect blend of Caribbean sunshine and smoked‑meat happiness. The jerk chicken has a little bit of attitude in the best way possible. The pulled pork sandwich was delicious and had a ton of meat. If you're into hot sauce, ask for the special sauce they keep behind the counter. The sides taste like someone's grandma supervised. I had the Mac&Cheese and baked beans. The baked beans have a lot of brisket mixed in. Portions are larger than you would expect for the price. The decor is rather spartan but the food is the real deal. If they had sand and a picnic table, I would have thought I was at Jamaican roadside stand. I checked out Sokah, a Caribbean barbecue spot, that's located in Federal Galley! The staff was super nice and it took a while to get our order but to be fair we got a lot of things! We tried a build your own smoked platter with a little bit of pretty much everything along with one of their bowls, the Sizzlin' Someting. Everything was really tasty and well seasoned. Shoutout to the oxtail that was literally falling apart, the super tender brisket, and the cornbread and mac and cheese that we absolutely inhaled. I was obsessed with the bowl and I'm still thinking about it a week later - the flavors are went so well together and the coconut rice paired nicely with the curry chicken. It is on the pricey side but I would say it's worth a try since there's not a ton of barbecue places in Pittsburgh, especially Caribbean barbecue. read more

This is DELICIOUS. The sides are insane. Candied yams make me feel like I'm eating a sweet treat, where I could also find myself happily swimming in a vat of fried cabbage and brisket & beans. This place is the real deal. We were tasting around the different menus at the Galley and decided to give these guys a try. So glad we did.
