Gem mani chipping and rubbing off-day 3
Melissa R.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon on a whim to get a mani/pedi before my vacation and upon entering it's super small, 4 chairs for manicures and 4 pedicure massage chairs. This place needs an modern update ASAP. The lady who took me sat me down and gave me the colors for the gel manicures and I showed her a picture of a simple leaf design with rhinestone/glitter with it I wanted and she said they don't have rhinestones I said ok how about glitter so she gives me the color palette again...I didn't want a mani of just glitter so I said no thank you. While doing my nails I asked if there's any design they can do and she said no we don't do designs, sorry. Ok, no problem as long as I have a nice mani I'll be fine without a design. They didn't talk much or make conversation so if that's what you're looking for, don't expect it. End of story, experience was decent nothing extraordinary. BUT my manicure started chipping and rubbing off in only 3 days!! Never have I ever gotten a gel manicure that didn't last 2/3 weeks. So disappointed... I would come back for a pedicure, that still looks great but if I don't get my mani there I probably won't be back for a pedicure either. Gel mani- $30 Pedicure- $23

Just left this salon and had such a great experience! Kim is so nice and quick / efficient. She took me last minute and I didn't feel rushed. I didn't even have to ask for a third coat. She just did it. Pricing is also amazing. $45 (before tip) for gel removal and gel polish/ manicure. They take Apple pay which is great! Would 100% recommend this salon if you are a Hoboken resident.

Amazing service, always great quality pedicure and manicure, and the prices are so reasonable. Not to mention, the staff is always so kind, friendly and accommodating. Best salon in Hoboken (and biggest bang for your buck). Pictured: Fresh set of Gel Tips

They took so much time and care with shaping my nails. I absolutely love how my gel turned out! I'll definitely be back!

I go here frequently for pedicures, manicures.Best quality nails in Hoboken, no frills. Great for any occasion.

When I moved back to the area, I needed a new nail salon because mine had closed. I found this business on Yelp and made an appointment because they seemed to have a good reputation and they are one of the few places who still did acrylic fills. I made an appointment for an acrylic fill with gel polish and it took about 2 hours for them to do my nails which is insane! When my nails were finished, they were bumpy and the color was streaky. Then when the tech handed me my bill, I saw that she charged me for two services, the acrylic fill and a gel manicure. I had never experienced that. Usually there is an upcharge for a gel polish, but its not like she did 2 sets of nails and should have been paid for two separate services. This place is on my list of "never returning".

Decent manicures and pedicures. Is it fancy? Nope. But if all you need is the basics, this is a good option.

I just moved to NJ and was looking for a new salon. I found this on Yelp and the reviews seemed…read morepretty good so I decided to give Shining Nails a shot.... I am underwhelmed and the reviews were too kind. I booked a 6:15 pm appointment with Alicia as there were some reviews about her. I get to my 6:15 pm appointment at 6:05 pm. It is a tiny salon on the corner. As I walk in I am not greeted just stared at so I walk to the back and let them know I have an appointment. They told me to sit down. After sitting I realized they had not sat me with Alicia and the tech looked visibly annoyed and handed me a bunch of gel color books. I stopped looking at the books for a second and she scolded me asking me if I had picked a color. When I mentioned that I had an appointment with Alicia, another tech came over and explained that Alicia was with another customer and that me booking with her did not guarantee me getting her. I was baffled and asked why. She explained that I had not made a note that I really wanted to see Alicia they had sat me with the next available tech - which is bizarre. The girl I had was rude and rushed through the entire pedicure. She massaged my feet for about 90 seconds. The techs are unwelcoming and it was an uncomfortable experience. The price is steep and the customer service lacks. I've never been to another salon that forces you to make a note to get an appointment with who you really want. Needless to say I won't be back.

After hearing loads of buzz about Nailed It, which did so well in its first year that it was able…read moreto open a second location, I finally decided to give it a shot the other day. In addition to the hype, I heard that they offered Dazzle Dry, a service that was new to me but was essentially a long-lasting manicure without the need for harsh gel polish and all of the issues that go along with that. I read several reviews for this original location and saw that Kitty was highly recommended, so I booked an appointment with her on their website. I arrived at the salon and found it clean, modern, and cozy, but a bit cramped. I checked in at the front desk and was told to sit at the last desk, where my manicure then began. My technician was extremely careful and detailed. She filed my nails perfectly, was very gentle while trimming my cuticles, and expertly painted each digit. However, I did notice that she followed a slightly different process than on the Dazzle Dry website in that she did not leave a lot of time between each coat and let the top coat dry for 10 minutes (rather than 5) before applying the finishing oil. (I gave it some time before I wrote this review to see how that would affect the length of the manicure, but it lasted for over two weeks! I even heavily cleaned my apartment during that time and did not experience any chipping. I was impressed!) As my treatment was wrapping up, I heard someone call out for "Kitty", but she was addressing an entirely different woman. It was at that point that I realized that I had been engaging with another beautician. I did not want to make a big deal out of it, but I asked the front desk attendant who had worked on me, and she said "Yolanda". I was a bit annoyed that they had altered my appointment without saying anything to me, but since Yolanda had done such a nice job, I just let it go. At least I now know of two recommended manicurists!

I didn't have to wait long for someone to take me upon arrival. My initial thought is "wow this place is TIGHT," it feels super cramped. And it was crowded on a weekday at 3PM. Very hoboken crowd, iykyk. I get assigned to a manicurist who really isn't that friendly. Low-key rude and not pleasant. They randomly ask me to switch manicurists to the girl next to her. Don't give me a reason why. I ask the manicurist why and she just shrugs. OK? I had my own nail polishes because I'm super picky about that thing. The new girl was kind. Sweet. Very young. We spoke Spanish. You can tell she was new because the rude manicurist was telling her what not to do and what to do next. My manicure was OK. I gave her a good tip because I knew she was new and they were just being rude to her. My cuticles were cut up the next day, weird because I've never had that happen to me. Doubt I'll return. Too bad because the place was nice and clean just so cramped.
