this place has horrid reviews for a reason. 25 minutes after the start of the appointment time, the front desk told me it was hard to accommodate appointments when they also had walk-ins and suggested I make an appointment at a time convenient for me, as if I hadn't done just that. there are 1 million places in Hoboken to do your nails, surely any other place would be better. Very good pedicure spot! I've been a few times and have always had a great experience. I usually call ahead and schedule an appointment so I never have to wait. The salon is clean and usually pretty busy. I haven't gotten my nails done there as I'm loyal to someone else who does SNS/Dip but I see a lot of girls getting their nails done which is a good sign! Also if you pay cash a pedi is $30 (if you pay CC there is additional percentage added) - I bring my own polish but they have a huge selection as well! Would recommend if you're in the area. My nails were in dire need of an acrylic fill-in and I called many nail salons in NJ and NY to no avail. I finally called Gotham Nails and they were able to take me in for an acrylic fill-in and regular pedicure at 6:15 on a weekday! I was a bit hesitant due to the reviews but I'm glad I didn't let them scare me off. I arrived at my appointment time and I went right to the pedicure chair. The nail tech was really kind and did a decent job. It was not the best I've gotten but it'll do! I also didn't like that the chairs don't move forward since I'm short. They also don't have a massage feature but those are not a big deal. After my pedicure I went for the fill-in. I believe the owner was removing my previous polish. She was soo nice and started conversation with me. It made the place very inviting. I was then moved to another nail tech who worked on the actual fill-in and painting. She did such a great job with the shape! I was super impressed. My nails were originally pretty thick and she worked on flattening them out without me asking. Pricing was pretty standard for nail salons in this area. I enjoyed my first experience here and so thankful they were able to take me last minute! I'll be back. read more

Ehhhh just ehhh First off, I appreciate that they do hard gel overlay. Not lots of places in Hoboken do. And I like their online booking system. I've gone twice now and the first time was okay, and my most recent visit left a lot to be desired. I think their prices are too high, even for Hoboken. I got chrome nails and asked for a squoval shape. I ended up with the chrome not all over the nails properly and she left too much room between cuticle. And my shape was purely square. I tried to speak up but she was CONSTANTLY answering the phone for appts while doing my nails. It was so unprofessional. It was a waste of $100. Will stick to Nail Bar. Got a gel removal only and still had gel on my fingers when I left. Had them cut & shape my nails and they're still uneven. There wasn't a long wait, but they only had one waiting chair and a customer left all their belongings there so I couldn't even sit down. I had an appointment scheduled on a Sunday and they were backed up so I rescheduled for an hour later and came back. When I got back they had me waiting 45 minutes. I said no big deal, can I reschedule for 6:30 the following night? They said thank you and no problem. I arrived 15 minutes early just to be sure they could take me at 6:30 and I still waited for a gel manicure. They did not care about the appointment at all. Very disappointing customer service - especially when I was understanding of the busy Sunday and rebooked my already booked appointment. When I told them this they just said "oh sorry 10 more minutes." Unfortunately at this point it was too late to go elsewhere. I've been going to Gotham Nails ever since they opened about 18 years ago. Rosie & her team are always professional, friendly & make my nails look gorgeous! Back in Dec when I was turning 50 I had one girl painting my nails on one hand & another girl painting a metallic nail art "50" on my other hand. Whatever I wanted, they aimed to please. On top of their talents, the salon is always very clean & during Covid I felt very safe going there. A solid choice for a low cost, low frills mani/pedi that you will very rarely have to wait for. I've recently started getting the week long wear and depending on the manicure it actually sometimes does last a week, but not always. I never mind paying a couple extra bucks for this because normal nail polish will chip the very next day, so even if this lasts an extra day or two, let alone an actual week, it is very much worth it. The women are kind and do good work and the place seems very clean. Besides those three things, the only thing that matters in a basic manicure are color options and I think that is where these guys fall short. Whether it is normal nail polish or the 1 week, they don't have a big selection and the one 1 week I did find and love (the red that I posted a picture of) they didn't have the next time I came in. For $15 for a 1 week mani, it is a great option. But I do wish they had better colors. I do highly recommend but just know that the color selection might be a bit lacking. read more

I went for a quick pedicure and I have to say it was a below average experience. From wait time to experience, it left a lot to be desired. There are so many other places in the area, I would recommend going to those instead. Pros: They were very pleasant and it seems cleans. Great variety of polish colors. Very nice decor. Cons: I sat for 20 mins while a staff member chatted it up on the phone in the waxing room until finally one of the staff members who was doing a pedicure said to her in Spanish to get off the phone and come out because people were waiting (I understand Spanish). The set up for the pedicure is uncomfortable. They do not have the standard pedicure chairs but instead have a chair that you sink back into and a glass bowl that they fill with about an inch of lukewarm water from a plastic container. The water gets dirty quickly and is not warm. Its kind of gross. You then put your feet up on a metal plank, which also not that comfortable, especially for shorties like me (my feet didnt reach). Aso, perhaps I got a gal who is inexperienced but often she filed my skin and it hurt a little. The massage was much shorter than other people which bummed me out because its my fav part! Overall, I feel like this is $25 that I'll never get back and wish I spent somewhere else. I won't be back because some things like the set up won't change. read more

I was extremely disappointed following a day at this salon with my boyfriend. We both went in for pedicures together and were very excited seeing as this salon is directly across the street from our new apartment. Honestly, my pedicure went okay. They were quick and I was done in 30 minutes. However, my boyfriend got a higher up pedicure that focused on a callus remover. He had said that the chemical they put on his feet began to burn and the lady KEPT it on his feet. Following the callus remover, they proceeded to scrub his feet for a long time resulting in horrible burns. I emailed the nail salon and had not heard back. I had a particularly bad experience here and left bleeding. There are so many other options in the surrounding area and I would choose another. After waiting 30 minutes, I was seated in a slightly dusty Ikea arm chair and a bowl of lukewarm water was placed below my feet. The woman who first attended to me was rude and in a rush. She started grinding my toenails so roughly that it caused me pain. When I protested, and asked that she wrap my nails with polish remover and foil for an extra 5 minutes) she cursed me in Spanish and stormed off. She was frustrated with having to spend more time on me. I was left waiting for 20 minutes (without my toes wrapped) until someone new finally attended to me. She removed the nail polish well enough but began to rip at my cuticles so much that I started bleeding. I didn't receive an apology and she just silently poured oil over my cut. I've been getting my nails done monthly for the past 5 years and have never had a worse experience. I planned to get a gel pedicure and manicure but - couldn't even finish and ran out of there with no color at all. I was still charged $26. Everything was made worse by having to endure mean-spirited and racist comments in Spanish (I'm not sure they know that most people understand the language). I will never go back and would advise any person of color not to come here. read more

I got a dip mani in July 2021 and am writing to express concerns around the cleanliness of the place. FIrstly this was my first time getting my nails done since COVID but even if we were not in a pandemic there were multiple times that it seemed cleanliness best practices were ignored. One example was when I sat down in a chair after a girl had just gotten up and the same paper towel was being used. I asked for a new paper towel and the woman took it away but didn't put a new one down as if I was asking for something absurd only after I asked again did a new paper towel get put down. Additionally none of the staff was wearing masks and they were constantly touching their faces and their phones while doing my nails. I understand that it is not required to wear masks but if you are touching your face the least you can do is wash your hands. The entire time I was there no one from the staff washed their hands which I feel should be a standard in between clients, pandemic or no pandemic. Besides the cleanliness factor it also took forever as they were constantly rotating workers throughout the process. I guess it could be that some of their staff specialized in some aspects of treatment but it caused delays and seemed a bit chaotic. read more

Im quite disappointed in the work done. i let the manager know that I was going on a trip to Europe, and my gel nails were already chipping after 2 days. To be on vacation with nails looking this way is upsetting and embarrassing. my pedicure was also subpar. the paint did not chip, but she didn't even do the bare minimum to clean up my calluses so I left the salon with skin peeling off of my feet. the staff was very friendly, but I find that they were more preoccupied with talking with each other rather than focusing on my nails. unfortunately, their kindness didn't trump the poor quality of the work done and I will not be back. The price was pretty cheap however, so maybe that is the trade off. read more

I chose to come to Gotham because of its proximity of where I live. I saw that their dip powders were $40 and I wanted to try it out. I am disappointed. When I went, a color change was an extra $10, whereas in other places there is no charge. It felt rushed and she also scraped a piece of the powder off and didn't fix it, causing my nail to look uneven. The application wasn't concise and all my cuticles look uneven. My last dip from a different salon didn't chip and lasted 3 weeks. This has been a week and my nail has already chipped! My nails are also shorter so I was hoping they wouldn't, but needless to say I will not being going back. read more

I have never written a bad review, but I also have never had a worse experience than at this nail salon. My friend and I booked an appt. We waited 45 minutes. They let a girl with no appt walk in and go ahead of us. They kept letting people in and wait for over an hour who had an appointment. Only three people were working. They did our nails and toes and I was at the dryer all within 20 minutes. My nails look like a kid did it, nail polish all over my skin, bubbles in the polish, and she just plopped on the top coat that it was oozing on the sides. It was also so dirty they didn't even clean the foot bath before they put me in! $45 for something I could do with my eyes closed. Do not waste your money here. read more

Pedicure went great but the gel manicure was rough. As soon as I walked through the door I showed them my inspo pic and asked if someone could do what was shown and the girl said "yea of course" then proceeded to pair me with the girl who couldn't do flowers. Quite literally had another worker say to me " I'm so sorry she doesn't know how to do flowers". At this point I was super annoyed and they knew it. I started questioning if this girl even had her certifications to do nails. It looks like she put SpongeBob flowers on my nails. Iykyk. The best part was at the end when they charged me $80 when the website said $70 and I was supposed to get 10% off because they were running a promotion. I went here for a quick manicure since I live nearby before a work holiday event tomorrow. I regret it and will go back to my old place. I came in with a picture and halfway through was told they couldn't do the design so I asked if they could just paint them all green, after being told no, she obliged. She didn't even cover all the original white paint. Then I asked for very light sparkles on the green like the picture -- they are not light at all. She redid the accent sparkle nail after I asked because it was squared and bulky, bending my nail, and she missed both sides of the nail! She couldn't see the issues I was talking about. She tried to just paint over it and I asked her to redo it. After asking her twice to redo them, she began speaking in Spanish (which I understood) about the sparkles being the problem and not her to the other technician. I'm so embarrassed by these nails. I paid and left immediately. Also -- they don't let it dry enough between layers for sake of time and do not moisturize your nails at all or soak them. So disappointed. They don't know how to do gel nails. I regreT paying as I am going to another salon now immediately after. There was no cuticle cleaning, and she used an electric file to take the paint off after the mistakes. Im mortified. I've gotten my nails done 1000s of times and this is the worst manicure I've ever received. See the pictures. Nails aren't filed well nor painted completely. I understand that not coming in without an appointment is crucial but when asked how long it would take, I was told 15 mins. It's currently been 41mins and I'm still waiting. They purposely skipped me as they were speaking Spanish and didn't know that I understand and speak the language. Finally they take me after two other walkins. Another 24mins after soaking they started on the manicure. Boy did it hurt and how I bled. An hour and 45 mind later I'm finally getting my regular manicure. They're rushing on me to get out by 8pm. Two hours for a terrible rushed job. Mind you it was only a regular mani pedi and it cost 45. They didn't even clean under my nails, no hand massage, nothing. Missing paint on my toes.
