I will note that some of the soy beans we got were the biggest I've even seen. Furakake added needed flavour. - Avocado Truffle Tacos: OK. Quite tiny, but well made and tasted good. I didn't get any hint of truffle though. - Wagyu Dumplings: Good. But similar to any good quality non-wagyu dumpling I've had before. Overpriced. - Paradise Maki: Good. I like the texture of the tempura. - White Dragon Maki: Very good. I think the ponzu sauce elevates this dish another level. Service was pretty standard. Did all the tight things, and timely, but not particularly friendly. Overall, it was an OK visit. Food overall was generally good quality, but very expensive for the quality and quantity you get. There are two floors so it is crowded but spacious enough for plenty of food at each table. They have lots of sushi you can't even get at most sit down places in the US including lots of torched nigiri and roll options. The salmon don and ramen were great as well as were the desserts. The service was prompt and we ordered with an iPad. We tried some great sake too. The only complaint regarding service is they gave us a plate for another table but it happens. Would love to come back here again in Montreal as this may be the best of many AYCE sushi places but would love to try another one too. All in all, this was a wonderful last meal in this amazing city.

Meanwhile, we watched people who arrived after us getting their food. When we asked why we had no sushi, we were simply told, "Sorry, we lost your order, please order again." When our food finally arrived, the same rude host brought it to our table. He literally threw the plates down and walked away without saying a word. To top it off, they automatically added a tip to the bill, which felt aggressive considering how poorly we were treated. They did not deserve that tip. I do want to express out Rebecca, our waitress, need retraining, ande the male host completely ruined the experience. He is the reason I will never recommend this restaurant. You need to do better.

The portions are small so don't expect to order 1-2 and be full. Between two people, we shared 5 dishes and we probably could have ordered 2 more. We tried a variety of items off their menu including one sashimi and one fried dish. Everything tasted good, was fresh and had different flavour profiles. I wasn't a huge fan of the matcha cheesecake because I found that there wasn't enough of a cheesecake taste. It cost us each 25$ before tip which I find pretty reasonable. This is what we got: Toro Age, Tebasaki, Sake Wasa and Maguro Nudo. For value at happy hour, it was great to share these small plates, but they were not portioned enough to fill an appetite without spending a couple extra bucks. Since we were still hungry, we also ordered an item on the regular menu - Unagi Aburi. Portion was extremely small with thin slivers of torched freshwater eel topped with sliced almonds and tobiko caviar. I wasn't sure if the yuzu honey sauce on the plate made a difference, but there's a lot of sweetness in the dish itself. Our favorite was the tebasaki though. Fried to a golden crisp, the wings were juicy with a light soy glaze. We loved it so much, we ordered another plate and because it was on happy hour, I didn't feel too bad or wasteful ordering up. Overall, Kinoya was a fun place to visit for its novelty, but not a place I would find myself returning to. Actually, maybe for the wings, just the wings! While it included several pieces of sashimi, two specialty tapas, and a soup or salad--overall a fair value--the four pieces of California roll included were subpar. They were loosely packed, difficult to pick up, and felt more like something from a fast-food sushi kiosk than a restaurant of this caliber. This isn't the first time I've ordered this dish and encountered the same issue. It's unfortunate to see an otherwise beautiful plate diminished by such a weak component. Everything was truly exquisite. For this evening, we spent close to $400, and from a culinary standpoint, the experience met expectations. Unfortunately, the service completely ruined the evening. The cavalier manner in which the assistant manager practically showed us the door is unacceptable. A serious lack of judgment and tact. We regularly visit restaurants in Montreal and Laval, and never -- I repeat, never -- have we been treated this way. Being rushed like that in front of our guests, during a birthday celebration, is frankly humiliating. We felt ashamed of the situation. At 6:00 p.m., we certainly did not expect to have to cut our evening short. The message was clear: "Eat, spend, and free the table quickly -- other customers are waiting." An establishment that positions itself as a high-end experience cannot afford such a lack of respect. Never again. Review based on our personal experience, honest and factual.
