Brilliant sushi place, a bit of a far drive from downtown montreal, but one of the best sushi places in the area for sure. It is owned and operated by a Japanese family, and among the many "fusion" new age quirky sushi places that are all the rage nowadays, yasu is one of the few that are really authentically Japanese, without being excessively expensive. They have a wide range of options on the sushi menu, and also have seasonal options and specials that are changed up (check out their facebook page for updates and yummy photos). They are one of the very few restaurants that serve uni (sea urchin) that is sourced locally from Quebec, and it is absolutely splendid in their rice bowl, and sells out quick. I've had uni from some other restaurants and it was not as fresh and sometimes tasted even off...but I've never had that experience here. They also had a whelk (tsubugai) dish special previously which was very interesting to try. Definitely give this place a try. It's a fantastic family owned business and they are super friendly, and their takeout is always prompt and packaged neatly.

This place is the go to sushi place in Brossard for many people in the shore. It has been here for as long as I could remember and it's always packed! From experience though, it's either hit or miss, depending on the night. I went with my family on a Sunday without reservations, it was packed but luckily there was one table of four free. We ordered the usual regular makis - kamizake, spicy tuna, spicy salmon, avocado, tempura shrimps and avocado, imitation crab and cucumber. The taste was good but presentation could have been better - the rolls were not uniform and the rice didnt hold that well so def had to either put it on your plate as soon as you picked the maki piece from the plate or in your mouth lol We also had the seafood tempura appetizer and tuna tataki (portions are pretty small) but definitely tasty.

It's a little restaurant with friendly staff. We were seated very quickly and offered the menu. We ordered a few a la carte items as well as a sushi set. The sashimi were very fresh, sushi tasted good. Overall everything was great. Except I personally liked the AYVE better as it assured you could leave with a full stomach. This visit, I left with an 80% full stomach.

If youre looking for some decent sushi/sashimi, this is where you should go! Depending on the season, they have specials: uni, soft shell crab, black cod etc I mostly go there for their sushi and sashimi, since price is reasonable for a non all you can eat place and quality is amazing! Owned by japanese!

It was the 3rd time we returned to this place. All sushi nigiri, warm entrees, main dishes are all delicious! At dinner time, service was a bit too quick. We ordered three ((3) hot starters: deep fried skate fish with ponzu sauce, crispy fried chicken and steam egg with seafood in a custard cup. Delicious! Then we also ordered a few things from the sushi list as well: unagi, mackerel, tamago, ebi, kanikama and avocado maki. Fish very fresh, and the rice between tender and chewy texture. As far as main courses, we had a curry pork katsu don and a chicken and soft egg on rice. Very good. both our palette are satisifed.

My friend told me it's one of the best Japanese restaurants in south shore and it really is! Normally we have to line up there to get a seat in the evening because the place is packed, but when we went there last time it was quite okay and no line-up needed (Friday night at 7PM)! The SASHIMI was the BEST, cannot go wrong with that, they have the plate only or the table d'hôte for you to choose. Didn't try their sushi (they are à la carte) but my friend said that their nigiri are amazing. The dishes are prepared by a Japanese chef and you can see him working on it while you wait patiently for your plate. It was quite an amazing dining experience!

Real Japanese restaurant ! We tried bento box and fish sashimi. Everything is so good and fresh. BBQ eel and rice is the best part of the whole bento box. We will try noodles and Japanese curry next time!

I could not beleive that they did not have better reviews especially from the last year or so as the head waiter Peter goes out of his way to make you feel welcome and takes a lot of pride in his work, Jeffery who is there less often is also very pleasant. We usually start with a house salade that has a ginger dressing you can't get enough of even though the portion is huge, especially if you go often ;) thanks Peter, then we get 2 orders of kamakazi's $4.99 each 5 big pieces and they are tasty.... the best i have ever tasted! and 2 avacado maki rolls $3.99 each for 5 big pieces I love these as the have the rice on the outside with black and white sesamee seeds, then I either go with a deep fried kamakazi that has a tempura batter these are really good try it! or if we are really hungry we order the Sushi Pizza 9.99 the plate is huge and very tasty. A few years ago for a few months they had a waitress that was pretty rude but now that they have Peter and staff the service is the best, so friendly and polite and you can tell the whole staff really have a lot of pride in their food and service. First off it's not a BYOW and many of the dishes were bland and disappointing. The tempura shrimp were made differently and when we bit into them they squirted a liquid (we assumed it was water) out. Just a note: The Mitsuki in Saint Hubert has changed ownership and name but food was still amazing and it's still a BYOW the last time we were there over 3 years ago.

The reason I can't give 5 star is the selection. The selection was so bad you have no tuna in your option. The maki was almost one of the only sushi I could get. Maki with cucumber, maki with avocado, or maki with salmon. They had one I believe in speciality that was avocado cream cheese and goberge. The other option all had shrimp tempura or deep fried. I like avocado and salmon, pretty simple but not offered on the menu. The sushi are good and the water service was really quick. I just wish I could have had a variety of choices. Most sushi place have a different lunch option. It might be a good option to come later for dinner instead.

Many of the marinated meats were delicious. The limited ventilation might make your eyes water while cooking. It was a pleasant experience with many flavourful discoveries. A spot for a group dinner. I came back because I really did miss their sushi and that hubby convinced me to give this place yet another chance. If you haven't read the last review, let's just say that it wasn't because of the food, but rather the service. This time around it was a completely new staff and it was great!!! It used to be an all waitresses but now it was only waiters. They were so polite, professional and so helpful! The sushi, like all the previous times I've came here, was delicious!!! So in my opinion, if the owner can have consistency in the service, this place will become once again my go-to sushi restaurant in the South Shore. So happy that it's all good again like it was before my previous BAD service experience. The sushi and the quality/freshness of the dish is amazing!

We were out on the south shore around dinner time and we followed the 4.5 star review this…read morerestaurant gets on Yelp. We took a chance. Once seated, I followed our waiter's advice to try the chef's choice. I was served a litany of finger food, sometimes served on the strangest of vessels, the mixture of flavours in each dish so complicated that I couldn't really identify what it is I was eating. The shape changed - and was sometimes pretty - but the taste stayed pretty much the same: cloyingly sweet, and bland in a bizarre way. I ended the meal with sticky fingers and a nauseating feeling that i had been taken for a ride. The decor reflects the same lack of direction as the kitchen, with Thai buddhas cohabiting with classic izakaya lanterns (some are beer adverts), Chinese windbreakers, and various vaguely asian trinquets and prints on the wall. The chopsticks are not even Japanese. On the glasses and the sleeves of the waiters you'll find a "勝" proclaiming, I suppose, the "win" this restaurant is aiming for??? It reminded me of those people who get a Chinese word tattooed on their arm or chest thinking it was a wise and ancient one-word proverb only to find out later it actually means "water" (or worse). "Win" indeed... The only somewhat bright side was the ever enthusiastic server who was singing the praise of each plate as he was serving them. I was at first on the verge of finding him annoying, but at least he was entertaining. In the end I kind of felt a pang of guilt for his efforts as I was going from one disappointment to the next. I think he knows what he is serving. The first and only star of this review is for his hard work (also, you can't give a zero star review). All in all it was disgusting, heavy on the stomach and the wallet (150$+ for two once all was said and done, no wine, as it is a BYOW), and I'm definitely never going again. Nor should you. Now, I'm not sure what's wrong with people who think they can call their place a sushi restaurant when all they serve is a mishmash of pretentious ... let's stay polite and call it "stuff" ... slathered with some kind of spicy sweet mayonnaise, and served on or with something crunchy in a cocktail glass. I understand the need to attract people who are still not quite comfortable - in 2022 - with the idea of eating raw fish, but this is extreme. Oh, and spare me the maple syrup to try and appeal to the "eating local" crowd. Sushi is about the fish, if you're not able to serve good fish, and insist on serving that Americanized crap, spare us and just call your restaurant something else. I hear "fusion" is a popular word.
