Original peak
Diana P.

We stopped by Soft Peaks in Gastown for a quick dessert and found it to be an easy, no-wait kind of stop. From my visit, it's more of a grab-and-go spot than somewhere to linger. I ordered the Original Peak, with a twist of vanilla and dark chocolate with cereal at the bottom. The first thing that stood out was the airy and fluffy texture, almost lighter than traditional soft serve. The dark chocolate brought a mild cocoa note, while the cereal added a crunchy, slightly nostalgic contrast at the base. That said, I expected the vanilla to have more of a rich, milky flavor. This is not the place for plain vanilla; it's the combinations (think honeycomb, matcha, or seasonal specials) that bring the experience to life. Based on the shop's concept, Soft Peaks is known for using local organic milk and keeping sweetness restrained, which tracks with that lighter, less sugary profile. Adding something like cereal or crunchy toppings makes a big difference. If you're a vanilla purist looking for a strong dairy note, this might feel a bit subtle.

My visit to Soft Peaks felt like so much fun because it was specifically a soft serve shop and I love soft serve ice cream! My one complaint is I don't think the store was super clean or had much/any seating. Service was friendly!

We ordered: Green Forest - Uji matcha shot w/ sweetened red beans Biscoff N Cream - biscoff crumbs, homemade cookie spread, biscoff cookie Excellent dense, creamy milk ice cream without vanilla flavoring. Great matcha flavor and red beans were sweet in the green Forest. Biscoff n cream was exactly what you want in a biscoff cookie flavored soft serve. Service was good; employee let us sample the milk and cookie butter soft serve before ordering.

Limited strawberry mochi flavour! This was from two months ago so this flavour is no longer available. I rlly wish I waited and tried the matcha strawberry mochi flavour but I'm still glad I tried this one. I enjoyed the mochi at the bottom and found the strawberry flavour really good. Overall I really like how they have rotational flavours every month and I think it's rlly fun. However, I think they are pretty pricey for soft serve.

Green Forest was good--the matcha was strong and flavorful and paired well with the red beans. The tiramisu was delicious as well. The soft serve is creamy and soft.

I saw this place on Instagram so I had bookmarked it for our trip to Vancouver. We stopped in on a Monday at around 2 PM. It's very easy to miss because the sign is very subtle, and the storefront looks like it's closed. It's on the edge of Gastown, so it's still fine but if you walk a block or two further than this, it starts getting a bit shady. I originally wanted to try the honeycomb peak but read mixed opinions on whether or not you should eat honeycomb while pregnant. So instead, I opted for the Brown Sugar Pearls (brown sugar drizzle with tapioca pearls) and hubby had Gastown (homemade tiramisu toppings). Mine was good but nothing amazing, and nothing I couldn't find somewhere else. Hubby's was too sweet for my taste. The annoying thing was that there were little flies everywhere. One took the first bite of my ice cream before I even got the chance to. Maybe we didn't get the right flavors but I would say this spot isn't worth going out of your way for. Luckily, we were already in Gastown.

Clean interior and easy to order. They have great pre planned combos but you can also dream up and include additional toppings. Love the unique offerings. They use organic milk which I love. The ice cream itself isn't very sweet so great for those that don't like things too sweet. It's very creamy. I would love to try again with different flavors as mine didn't have enough punch for me until the end (the brown sugar settled near the bottom). Did have the vibe of brown sugar boba in ice cream form. Service was very quick. There is seating inside available.

I went to Soft Peaks and got the egg tart parfait for the Vancouver Ice Cream Festival! The ice cream was so incredibly creamy and soft and paired nicely with the egg-tart. The ice cream by itself was a bit basic and the egg-tart was just okay as there was a lot more crust than filling. However, together with the custard sauce, it was better! I really liked the design of the store though. There was a flight of stairs leading to an upstairs seating area and a mirror on the wall where you can take a cute photo. I think I'd have to try another flavour to write a better review!

Matchamisu seasonal flavour

When I heard about the new seasonal offering, I made sure to drop by for the matchamisu. As a tiramisu lover, the creamy mascarpone cream was really nice and helped to balance out the bitterness of the matcha soft serve. The lady fingers were well soaked in uji matcha and adds the perfect texture to each bite.

Ube Sago

Needed a quick pick me up after exploring Canada Place and Gastown. Hubs and I shared the seasonal Ube Sago (ube soft sweet with Sago and ube jelly). The soft serve was creamy and full of ube flavor. We liked the Sago and ube jelly with the soft serve - Not too sweet. Quite a few combinations to choose from or customize your own.

Yummy but pricey soft serve. I liked the matcha syrup version. They have seating upstairs

Honeycomb matcha

Cute little gem in Gastown. It was quiet as it was a cold night. Tried the honeycomb one. The cornflakes is key in this one as the wax from the honeycomb detracts from the texture. Tried their seasonal matcha one which wasn't bad as I am a fan of red bean. Overall it was great and they even have seating upstairs.

We found this spot after supper. It was super tasty and and I definitely recommend if you're looking for a cold dessert. Quaint spot with supper friendly staff. They are also quick to make your treat.

Not special ice cream. Not that tasteful and customer service was not that welcoming. Looks expensive for what you get.

Maybe it's because summer is winding down, but there didn't seem to be as many fruity options, which made it harder for my boys to find something they really wanted. They ended up choosing the blueberry balsamic. They thought it was okay, but it wasn't a flavour they were particularly excited about. I personally love the honeycomb flavour! It was delicious, but I was disappointed that there weren't more pieces of honeycomb throughout the ice cream. I was hoping for a little more of that crunchy honeycomb texture. Another disappointment was the outdoor patio area. When we went outside to enjoy our ice cream, there was a noticeable garbage-like smell nearby. We couldn't figure out exactly where it was coming from, but it made the patio less enjoyable, so we ended up going back inside. Overall, we still enjoyed our family ice cream outing, but I was hoping for a little more variety in the flavours and a more pleasant outdoor seating experience.

Located in a random spot? Check. Only one staff member working? Check. We've been a couple times and I have yet to see it busy. A few people pop in but no one ever lingers. Most likely because there's no seating. There's also a sign on the counter stating you can only sample 2 flavours during peak hours. There's usually 10 to 12 flavours to choose from; always something unique and interesting. They also have sundaes, ice cream sandwiches and doughnuts on the menu. - Mango raspberry swirl and London fog ($7.00 double) - waffle cone is included and it was better than expected. The ice cream itself tastes a bit denser but still has a creamy satisfying texture. The London fog was fantastic! The mango raspberry was more mango than raspberry but also quite good. - London fog ($5.00 single) - came back on a Monday and they only had four flavours that day. We went with the London fog; just as good as the last time. - Dark chocolate and black sesame with honey ($7.00 double) - the dark chocolate tasted like a fudgesicle but better. Not too sweet and hefty; it was so heavy it almost fell off the cone! The black sesame was delicious. Not quite like the ones we had in Japan but tasty and flavourful. I'll be back again and again! Love the laid back, no frills vibe at Rooster's. One of our favourite ice cream spots!

First, it is an interesting location on east Broadway in a mainly residential area...the good thing is this allows for plenty of free street parking. The room is functional but leaves something to be desired aesthetically. The staff were pleasant and attentive. The flavours were very much in line with Earnest. Sampled the Dark Chocolate and selected my usual, Caramel Sea Salt. Strong creamy caramel taste (which is great) but unfortunately lacking any sea salt flavour. Glad we went but not sure we will be returning anytime soon.
