On my last visit to FL, I'd had the pleasure of dining here. It was a random gem of a find. Most of the day was devoted to gift shopping and driving family around looking for cheap souvenirs. And finding this spot was definitely one of the better restaurant options after having endured mall-type-food, since dining with family often near or around the Disney Parks. The cafe was modern and chic in comparison to the many tourist traps we had dined at before. To note, I'm a Chicagoan and not used to Latin fare. We have tidbits of it available in Chicago but much of what I tasted in and around Orlando was far better than anything back home. Except for Mexican food, surprisingly. It was a normal humid day in Orlando. We must have sweated a pound of two off our bodies. Stopping there was like finding an oasis in the desert. (Or so we thought.) Walked in and found a couple menus. Two hosts were talking to each other so we waited by the door. Eventually I motioned to family to sit and I'd inquire with the hosts how to proceed. One of'em said we could place orders at the counter and sit where ever we liked. We grabbed a seat closer to the windows. My cousin and I scanned the menu and placed orders for many items over the course of our dining. Many items to share and sample. Anything fried and stuffed (empanadas), essentially the entire small bites menu. A couple hand-helds, the cachapa with roasted pork and some mini tequenos with guava sauce. The churrasco, some fried plantains and a trio of sangria. Okay.. so, mini tequenos x2. (Those little babies were too damn good!) 3 adults and a child, annihilated it all. I'd say the churrasco (skirt steak), mini tequenos, fried plantains and cachapa were our favorites. The empanadas were all good but may have been better if we would have received the hot sauce when requested. Service was rocky.. not great but could have been hella better. Entrance and exit greets would have been nice as well. I get what they're doing with their setup. Keeping order takers at the counter and using runners to deliver food. They claim it keeps costs down, I'm sure it keeps tips down as well. But, if your employees are standing around talking.. your customers are going to wonder, why aren't they on top of their game? No table should be left in disarray and the floor around it should be clean or swept right? Also.. most tables were dining on the same thing. The lunch special. Not one person mentioned to us that there were any specials. In any case.. food and drink wise, we were happy. One last question.. do they have AC? Inside their cafe it was cooler than outside but we couldn't tell whether they offered any "cooling". read more

Stumbled upon this gem after power shopping at the outlets and working up an appetite. The portions were great and food was oh so yummy. I loved that it had a variety of Latin culture dish specialties (labeled by country) on the menu. This meal was spoken of days later. I hope the owners consider opening another location south of downtown! It would do AMAZING! The churrasco steak was beyond delicious and my leftovers didn't make it past breakfast. Amazing food for such an awesome price! My boyfriend and I are Puerto Rican and Dominican, so we grew up with our food and seasoning. Many latin places are a hit and miss, but this one blew us away! The place has NY deco feel with a modern twist. The hanging menus are very cute, and the activities seem interesting. We both ordered the roast pork with yellow rice, and red beans. My boyfriend got maduros, and i got tostones. All hot and the tostones were fresh. The flavor was more than amazing! The beans were thick and the rice was flavorful. The pork was shredded, but full of flavor. The service was good. We were greeted by a gentleman at the door. After looking at the menu for a minute, we walked to the counter and put in the order. We sat down with a number and our food came out within minutes. Right behind came my tostones hot and fresh. Overall, the food was flavorful and so delicious. The ambience was light and easy going. The service was delightful. Everything was great, and I fully recommend it! read more

We ended up walking over to this place since it was close to our hotel while vacationing at DisneyWorld, and boy were we surprised. This place had AMAZING, and authentic Latin food. I got the Roast Pork, which was seasoned to perfection. Literally every bite made me want to go back for another, without shoveling down the entire plateful all at once. It has a lot of Cuban-type spices, like cumin and coriander, and came with 3 sides. I chose the yellow rice, fried plantains, and Papa Criolla. You honestly can't go wrong with anything here, because my girlfriend got totally different items and her dish/sides were off the charts amazing as well. Great environment, HIGHLY recommend. read more

At Sofrito, you place your order, pay and tip and then find a table and are served. Not quite what I was expecting but okay. They had some drinks I would have liked to try but I was alone and driving. I didn't want too much, so I ordered a veggie sandwich and juice. I was promptly served a glass bottle of water with a cup and then my juice. I don't know many places where I live that you can go in and get guava juice, so that was nice. When my order came out was pretty decent. The menu said it would be served on Cuban bread. What I got was two long thin sandwiches packed with grilled veggies. I was satisfied with the amount and taste of the food. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was tipping before you are served. I suppose you could leave a tip after you are served, but when paying you are prompted for one. read more

My husband and I are staying at The Grande Vista Resort when we found ourselves starving! Restaurants were closing on the resorts ground so we gave this place (Sofrito Latin Cafe) a try along with ordering from Uber eats for the very first time! Two first in one night! Ay! To my surprise our food came in good time and was presented so nicely! I am not sure exactly what I was expecting of the food upon arrival in a strangers car, but it was beautifully wrapped and placed in all the right containers! The fact that this restaurant was less than an hour till closing.... we just placed in a full order... along with all the extras.... AND it was still that good! The empanada came LOADED with shredded beef and this empanada didn't skimp out on quality. It tastes so good when you dip it with the green sauce and it was chef's kiss. I think this is the best empanada I ever had and when I tried other empanada, it doesn't even compare to this. I ordered another dish but I forgot the name and it's soo good. I was a little disappointed because the menu said pick 3 sides and I chose all beef. Alfredo didn't mention to me that there would be an additional charge for the beef. As a result, I had to pay an additional $10 which was very pricey and didn't find out until I received my bill and saw the charge. I didn't make any complaints because the employees seem not to speak English well and it's hard to be a foreigner trying to adapt to the culture and the language. Cons- There is ALWAYS a weird perm smell when you go. It literally smells like someone is perming their hair, so not good. Another con is sometimes it takes long to get your food. And last but not least, I think their prices are not reasonable lately. Some of the prices do not match their menu, not sure when they raised their prices but I have never ever heard of a patacon costing almost $26 anywhere, and I frequent a lot of Venezuelan spots. Their name went from Q'Kenan restaurant to Q'Kenan Steakhouse so maybe now they just raised all the prices, I don't know. Their most expensive patacon on the menu is the one with Picańha and it says $17...yet I got charged 25.90. Regardless of how good something is, there shouldn't be a $9 difference from what is on the menu. That is absurd. On my last trip- $43 for an empanada, tequeńos and a patacon just doesn't sound right for Venezuelan food, and I come from living in Miami where restaurants are supposed to be more expensive. Add a tip and you're paying over $50 for street food. That's wild.

The flavor was really good, the seafood was good, and overall I enjoyed it. My one issue was the peppers and onions. There were a LOT of big chopped pieces that I could clearly see and taste, and for me, that was a little bit of a turnoff. I prefer everything in my paella to blend together a little more. But did that stop me from eating it? Absolutely not. And here's the funny part. I ate the leftovers the next day and somehow it tasted even better! Normally bbq doesn't ask so I was very happy. ribs: decent. not too much to say. Soft. Corn (side): crunchy corn with cheese was good, though patties were thicc. Little too much for me. ASK FOR THEIR SAUCES. THEY ARE FIRE. They had a spicy, a creamy, and a salsaish one. All 3 were so good. I loved it. especially the spicy one. Decent value for price. I would say I'd come again but I'm on vacation! Worth a trip for sure.

Bahama Breeze

4.1(1.2k reviews)

Still a Favorite After 30 Years!…read more I've been a frequent diner at Bahama Breeze for the past 30 years, so it's safe to say I'm a fan! My most recent visit to the Vineland Ave. location near the outlets was for a date night, and overall, we had a really enjoyable experience. We started with several margaritas, and they were vibrant, flavorful, and a great way to kick off the evening. We also enjoyed the yuca sticks and coconut shrimp -- both were delicious. The one big miss of the night was the tostones with chicken. The fried plantains were burnt, there was very little chicken, and unfortunately, there was none of the jerk seasoning that really brings this dish together. That was disappointing, especially since the flavors are what make this appetizer stand out. That said, I'm chalking it up to an off night. One dish isn't going to change my opinion after three decades of enjoying Bahama Breeze. I still love the restaurant, the atmosphere, and the overall experience -- and I'll definitely be back soon! Hopefully the tostones are back to their usual standard on my next visit.

Bahama Breeze is a restaurant themed as if it's in the islands. The outdoor area features fans and…read moregarden lights, but unlike the islands, it has no ocean breeze as it's located just off 535 in Florida. Therefore, we opted for indoor seating and the delightful air conditioning in today's 97 degree heat. The food was very good. The Jamaican jerk chicken wings are seasoned well. This time, they were slightly dry instead of perfect like last time. The grilled chicken with cilantro-crema, mashed potatoes and corn remains my favorite dish on the menu. Ask for a side of the sauce too; it's that good. The cheeseburger and fries was standard and okay but unremarkable, which means it was perfect for my mom who is a picky eater and not adventurous. Pro-Tip: if you are headed somewhere with a refrigerator, order the full portion of the grilled chicken with cilantro-cream and take one breast and some mashed potatoes home for another meal. The full portion is only $3 more than the light version, but comes with a second piece of chicken breast. Otherwise, save the $3 because one breast is plenty filling. You could also consider sharing the full portion plate to save room (and money) for apps or dessert. We chose the flaming pineapple butter cake for dessert. It arrived piled high with pineapples and vanilla ice cream on the side. When the server lit the sauce then poured it, the flames danced. However, not all the alcohol burns off. The cake was saturated and tasted of alcohol where it was poured. Warning: Check your receipt. We were charged $2.99 for trivia games we did not play and $0.50 extra for cheese when the item ordered was a cheeseburger listed as coming with cheese on the menu for $18.99.

Sofrito Latin Café offers a delightful escape into the vibrant and rich world of Latin American flavors. Located in a cozy, inviting space, the restaurant captures the essence of Latin cuisine with a modern twist. The atmosphere is casual yet lively, with bright decor that instantly transports you to a warm, tropical destination. The menu is a celebration of Latin American staples, featuring a mix of classic and innovative dishes. The mofongo is a standout--fried plantains mashed to perfection and paired with savory meats or seafood, making for a comforting and flavorful dish. The arroz con pollo (rice with chicken) is another favorite, with tender, seasoned chicken and a perfectly cooked rice base that's rich in flavor. For appetizers, the tostones (crispy fried green plantains) served with a tangy garlic dipping sauce are addictive, and the empanadas are equally delicious, with a crispy exterior and savory fillings. The salsa bar offers a nice variety of dipping sauces that complement the bold flavors throughout the meal. One of Sofrito's highlights is its cocktail selection, with expertly crafted mojitos, margaritas, and their signature Sofrito Punch, all featuring fresh ingredients and a strong Latin flair. It's the perfect way to start the meal or end it with a sweet note. Service is warm and attentive, with staff offering helpful recommendations and a genuine enthusiasm for the food they serve. Prices are reasonable considering the quality and portion sizes, making it a great option for both casual outings and special occasions. Overall, Sofrito Latin Café is a must-visit for anyone looking to explore the bold, flavorful world of Latin cuisine. With a mix of delicious food, refreshing drinks, and a welcoming ambiance, it's easy to see why this place is a favorite for many. read more

Staff at Sofrito have asked me to write a review. Here it is: We was attracted by the name "Sofrito", especially because my two companions are actually Puerto Rican and they were craving for Puerto Rican food. First thing we asked was for the famous Mofongo, they said that they have it. We ordered a Shrimp mofongo and a Pork mofongo, myself I ordered Roast Pork. While we wait for it we got some empanadas that were delicious, and other appetizers really good. When we got the entrees there was the problem. The mofongo was cold and we doubt about it that it was made on premises. About my roast pork, I was not able to eat it. I try a couple of pieces and I left it in the plate almost untouched. I have never had such a hard rock pieces of pork with a microwave reheated test. Because I am honest i told the server right away. We ended up not eaten our entrees because my companions had similar issues. I was drinking beer and my companions coconut soda. Because the bad test of the food was in our mouth before we left, we ask for one coconut soda to wash it down. We paid our bill in full, even if we did not eat the food, and we left. Can you believe that they rushed out asking us to pay for the last can of soda? Obviously this people does not have any restaurant experience ! Any restaurant if you leave the food untouched will have some kind of compensation, some others will not even charge you for the food you did not eat !. But they didn't care ! they still want to get paid 1,50 for the soda. UNBELIEVABLE!!! read more

Lunch at Sofritos was nothing short of spectacular, just as it always is. From the moment we stepped in, the inviting atmosphere and the rich aromas of the kitchen set the tone for what would be a delightful culinary experience. We kicked off our meal with some refreshing bubbly that sparkled in our glasses, adding a celebratory touch to the occasion. The standout dish was undoubtedly the delightful croquetas. Each bite was a perfect blend of creamy, savory goodness, and they were complemented by a zesty dipping sauce that intensified the flavors. But the real highlight was the amazing arepa. Stuffed to perfection, it was a harmonious mix of textures and flavors that transported us straight to culinary bliss. The warmth of the arepa coupled with the fresh ingredients made it feel like a warm embrace on a plate. As we enjoyed our light lunch, we exchanged stories and laughter, feeling rejuvenated and energized for the rest of the day. There's something incredibly uplifting about a meal shared with good company, and nothing beats the vibrant charm of Sofritos to kickstart our afternoon. #Florida #Orlando #yelpelite #sofritoslatincafe read more

I went to Sofrito Latin Cafe for lunch today and had an incredible experience. This place knows how to make real Latin food that hits all the right spots - everything was fresh, flavorful, and made you feel like family. I tried the churrasco steak with yuca and maduros. The steak was perfectly grilled with a nice char on the outside but still juicy inside. It came with this amazing chimichurri sauce that had just the right amount of garlic and herbs. The yuca was creamy and buttery, and those sweet plantains were caramelized to perfection. Even though it was busy during lunch rush, the energy was positive and welcoming. What impressed me was the attention to detail. My coffee came in a proper cup and saucer, the bread was warm, and everything was seasoned perfectly. You can taste the difference when people take pride in their cooking. For $19, I got a huge meal that was restaurant quality but felt homemade. I'm already telling my friends about this place - it's exactly what Orlando needs more of. read more

We visited this place three years ago and had a fantastic experience, so we were excited to return. Unfortunately, this visit was very disappointing. When we ordered lunch to go, we encountered several issues during pickup, but we assumed it was just a one-time problem. We decided to give it another try and came in for dinner today. Sadly, things only got worse. Winni took our order incorrectly, was noticeably rude, and overcharged us. When we asked her to correct the mistake, she responded with an attitude rather than an apology. When the food finally arrived, it was extremely bland and lacked any flavor. To top it off, we ordered dessert, but it was never brought out--we had to specifically ask for it. Overall, this visit was nothing like our first and left us very disappointed. We do not recommend this place anymore. read more

For starters, don't expect a server, you order at the counter and they bring the food to you. Ordered a steak dish and the pice was small and dry after I wanted it cooked medium. The small piece I got was $15 for lunch. *Important - Do not take your significant other to this place! Gentleman at the counter kept pushing salsa dance lessons and after 3 times of my wife telling him no thank you, he asked if she was Puerto Rican and then followed that up with asking if her and I were together. Seriously guy? Unbelievable experience, my wife and I will not be back. read more

I recently discovered a fantastic Cuban restaurant located close to Disney, thanks to a colleague who took me there. I ordered a Cuban Sandwich and was blown away by how delicious it tasted. The portion size was generous and the price was reasonable. The bread was perfectly crispy on the outside and packed with meat. I also had a Cheese Empanada which came with a delicious cilantro sauce. The service at the restaurant was quick and efficient, and the ambiance was relaxed and comfortable. But I was genuinely excited for this meal. I'm a Rick Bayless fan and own all his cookbooks, so there was a little more anticipation involved than "please bring me food." I live in Texas and know my way around Mexican food and Tex-Mex, but I came in expecting something different. The restaurant is beautiful, the service was good, and we were well taken care of. The food, overall, was just okay for me, with a few highlights. The queso fundido was excellent. Great flavor, plus those long strings of cheese that turn eating into a small arts-and-crafts project. There were three of us, and it arrived with exactly three tortillas. The tortilla-to-person math was flawless. The tortilla-to-cheese ambition needed work. We asked for more, and they were quickly brought over, so consider this your friendly tip to request extras. I didn't need a huge entrée, so I went with the chicken flautas. These were really good, although the chicken had an unexpectedly creamy texture. Not what I anticipated, but I liked it. My bigger issue was the pile of extras on top. At some point, I wanted to politely ask the toppings to step aside so I could taste my flautas. Also, try the mango-infused iced tea. Really refreshing in the Florida heat, and one of my favorite parts of the meal. Apparently, I came for Rick Bayless and left thinking about tea. I'm glad I tried it. Beautiful setting, good service, excellent queso, and some enjoyable bites, but the meal as a whole didn't leave me eager to return.
