On our way to Resorts World wanted to have some Spanish food before trying our luck at casino. Saturday night around 8 only one other table was occupied. We were greeted and said we could sit anywhere and told no yellow rice and chorizo. Except for decor a mural of Old San Juan nothing authentic but we are here for the food. Ordered chorizo and maduros Empanadas appetizer tripeleta sandwich with side of tostones. Wife had Mofongo with shrimp. Empanada was really good never had that combo before so good start. Triplelta is steak pork and chicken and super soft hero/pan bread. Nice flavor tostones were big and were accompanied by a garlic white sauce. I like just ajo in oil which they did not have. Wifes mofongo was a little salty as were the jumbo shrimp in white sauce. She did receive a wonderful citrus dressing which she used on the little salad which she loved. We took most of it home since we were not looking to fill up prior to the casino. Saw a few people order takeout not sure if that makes up a large part of business or not. My wife and I have been in hospitality for 30 years and if you see a new face wouldn't you want to welcome them and thank them for trying out the restaurant? I think so. Not sure if it was owner or manager but he spoke to the one other table throughout our meal. I think he missed an opportunity to talk with us about our experience. Waitress spoke only English which is stark contrast to every Spanish restaurant in Brooklyn where we lived for 30 years. My wife is Puerto Rican so she was looking for that connection to no avail. So to close the food was decent but not sure I would make the trip back. We will keep trying til we find a real Spanish restaurant. read more

Food was a 6 out of 10. I enjoyed the appetizers more than the entree. Starting with the empanadas, I'm used to it being packed with meat and cheese. These had a lack of that, The alcapuras were nice and crispy and had flavor, but one seasoning used was unfamiliar, and they didn't need to add it. As per my sofito burger that had avocado, fried cheese, some sort of aioli really wasn't a marriage for me. It did not all go together. The ground meat was too thick and bland. I guess if you're starving, it'll taste good. Yuca fries were thick and hard. My husband's entree was better tasting but wasn't hot. The parcha juice was a 10/10. read more

This food reminds me of my childhood days growing up in East Harlem (el barrio). Where on every corner was a Puerto Rican restaurant. The aroma of this food permeated the restaurant and kicked in those childhood day memories. The staff is very friendly. Food is prepared fresh,so don't rush perfection. I highly recommend this hidden gem. The portions are very generous and again authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. I'm looking forward to returning soon just thinking about it. read more

Sofrito 787 make a whole pig for a party we had Yo the food was slamming the lechon was on point great flavor when it was delivered the smell reminded me of all the pig roast we had back in the day not only was the lechon great the Arroz con Gondules was on point the madras were also great but the chicarron de pollo was OMG some of the best I've had in awhile being Puerto Rican we tend to be very critical of Puerto Rican food from restaurants because we compare it to Abuela and Mom's food we ate growing up the Chef of Sofrito hit it out the park My Abuela and Mom would have loved Sofrito food I highly recommend u eat there and if need catering Sofrito the way to go and this is not my opinion but all the guests were praising the food one guest said to tell Sofrito WEEEEEPPPPA!!! read more

After arriving at SWF after a 3 hour flight our party was hungry. Thank you to my fellow Yelpers for recommending this place. We ordered our food to go so we had another half an hour before we were ready to sit and eat our lunch. We had ordered steak with onions and rice with pigeon peas, Mofongo with fried meat chunks and a Tripleta with fried plantains. First, all the meat was wonderfully seasoned, tender and delicious. The Mofongo was ok. My sister said the garlic sauce was on point, but the pork rinds were missing. The sandwich was delicious. The only thing that needed work were the fried plantains. They tasted stale/old. For the most part we enjoyed our meals. I would go back, enjoy other dishes and skip the plantains. The decor is a plus and made me homesick. read more

The service here was very welcoming and friendly and even though I few questions about the menu she answered them no problem. Now the food since I ordered take out, the cookie was good, fresh baked and very soft despite sitting in a hot box, the tripleta sandwich definitely was best, I mean the trifecta of slow roasted pork, chicken and steak well seasoned and generous portioned is great, plus potato stix in a sandwich is not common but not unwelcome, the BBQ sauce I could not tell it was in the sandwich but the sofrito aioli was very good, since the sandwich was pretty dry without it. Beef and cheese empanada was good, nothing above average. Now the cream cheese and Nutella empanada am pretty mixed, since Nutella filling is great no doubt as a filling in any pastry, but the cream cheese I wish they transformed it, since it was more or less a slice of refrigerated block cream cut and put into the pocket, would be well worth it to make a sweeten cream cheese icing like you get on cinnamon buns and put that with the Nutella into the empanada. The sandwiches are definitely fire here, but empanadas I might think twice. read more

Food was 4 out of 10. We were told to just sit anywhere. No other greeting upon arrival. The pernil tasted horrible, as if it was sitting out all day long. White rice was too hard and the beans tasted burned. The only good thing we received was the beef and cheese empanada. We went on a Saturday evening and the restaurant was jammed pack, tried voicing our complaint to the young girl who was our waitress and she stated "this is the best we can do" no discount off our bill or no apologies! My friend had discovered this place so I gave it a try when I was in the area. Oh my goodness so delicious!!!! I got the lunch special. The chicken was tender and flavorful! Nicely spiced. I also really enjoyed the sweet plantains and arroz con gandules that came with the lunch special. I had a strawberry lemonade that was really refreshing-- a little on the sweet side so I asked for lots of ice with it. I couldn't finish all my rice, so I got over half of it in a to/go container. The dining room was comfortable and inviting, I liked the mural of the beach, and the salsa music music playing on the speakers. My server was welcoming and friendly. read more

Great PR food the chicken de cerdo was so flavorful and properly cooked, to platoon Madura was very good. The tostones were crisp and tasty. The empanadas were made exactly the way my abuela would have made them and they tased like she made them herself even though she had been gone for 15 years. The yellow rice was good but cold and we had to warm it up but it was 14 degrees outside a quick 60 seconds in the microwave brought back the heat and it's steamy goodness. Dont waste your hard earned money on this garbage. Anyone that enjoys their food must not know what Puerto Rican food is supposed to taste like or look like. the meat had no flavor and tasted like is was old ,dry and recooked. the accalpurrias were disgusting old and didnt even taste or look right , burnt and nasty. the mofogo was just mashed plantains with no garlic or flavor , it's the only thing that wasn't refried five times. the beans were just as bad . This is not what Puerto Rican food tastes like and they should be ashamed of serving this trash to anyone. read more

I was really craving some rice and beans just like my grandma makes. I looked up nearby Puerto Rican restaurants and I'm so happy I picked Sofrito 787. I ordered rice, beans and a side salad.
