I've been to this venue a few times before, but this was my first time for their brunch service! I ordered their Benedict and it was spectacular! The sauce, execution and presentation was spot on. It is on the pricier side, as their default Florentine Benedict is $24. You can add smoked salmon for an additional $10. Note that because this is a fine dining restaurant, portion sizes are a little smaller. If you're a bulking male, I would recommend ordering sides. read more

Met a friend after her meeting on a Thursday just after 5 in Yorkville and she wanted to stop into a spot that had a happy hour. She mentioned to the sandwich board for Sofia that was advertising a happy hour. I hesitated but said ok. We walked in... dim lighting, no one else there except the bartender who said hello and quickly noted we entered through the wrong door (I guess we entered thru the side entrance that was open? Oops... thanks, noted for next time). We said that we were there for the Happy Hour for drinks, maybe apps. He showed us to a table and disappeared. We looked at menu on table and there wasn't anything about Happy Hour. The bartender comes back so we take this opportunity to ask about the Happy Hour.... Now, he decides to tell us that the Happy Hour is only on Tuesdays and not that evening and didn't suggest anything else. I always wonder why businesses have advertising out front that are 'date specific' and not relevant to the date at hand! Interesting that he didn't say anything right away when we said we were there for Happy Hour. So we took that as our cue to leave the restaurant, back to its empty status. We tried to dine for dinner on Sat but it was packed and we had not made a reservation so we booked a late lunch on Sunday. Luckily it was brunch! We got to try some fun different items but I did wish we had some more pasta options. I ended up with a potato Cacio and my husband with steak and eggs. I'm not sure if the overall lower ratings are specific to the evening, but I came here for brunch on a Saturday afternoon, and loved it! It wasn't super busy during this time, and because the space is quite large, diners weren't placed so close together that you can hear the conversation of the table beside you. The interior of Sofia is beautiful, and our personal server was great! She was friendly, easy to understand, knew the menu, and always came by at the right moment to refill our water glasses. I thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered during this visit, as it was all very flavourful without being overwhelming. I especially loved especially the tigelle (similar to an English muffin) that was served with my eggs benedict. It was somewhat buttery, crispy on the outside, and soft in the inside. It's great to go to a restaurant, celebrate a special day, and actually leave feeling good about your decisions and the quality of the restaurant. It doesn't happen enough these days. We started off our meal with the Apollo (Grilled Octopus) and a white fish crudo. It was carb night Sunday so we ordered the pappardelle di angnello and garganelli pastas at 50% off. We enjoyed the appetizers a lot. The crudo was possibly the best dish I had at Sofia, the octopus came a close second but I would've preferred it to be a little more seared and crunchy on the outside. While we did enjoy the pasta dishes, I would never willingly pay full price for the dishes. We ended our meal the Baci di Sofia after being convinced by our server to try it. He mentioned that they had a French pastry chef fly in and curate the dessert menu for them. The dessert was absolutely delicious. Overall I would highly recommend Sofia for their carb nights, 50% off dessert and pasta is a steal and highly worth it. Food was mid to say the least! manager is absolutely the worst. after witnessing a customer make sexually advances towards a female server ( touching and etc) we brought it to managements attention, who stated that this is what the industry is like and brushed it off allowing the customer to stay. This place was alright. It was on my list since I had seen it on Instagram. But didn't realize the menu is mostly seafood and beef options. There aren't any chicken options on the menu, just so people know. Surprisingly we went around 6pm for dinner and it was pretty empty not many people were at the restaurant. They do have an outdoor patio as well which was slightly busy. The portions were alright, I didn't really enjoy the food. I got the Burrata which I thought would come with bread but didn't. I have had better burrata before. For the main I got Bistecca Di Wagyu, personally I didn't like it. The side was hyped up by the waitress but wasn't that great. The waitress we had for our table was kind of annoying as she kept circling our table too many times and asking over and over again if we were ready to order. Since we all at the table had not seen each other for a while, we would be in a middle of a conversation and she would just disrespectful start asking have we decided what to order. Not sure why there are so many negative reviews. Came here with a group of 4 for a work dinner and we had a very pleasant time. We were seated in the outdoor courtyard on a nice Wednesday evening. The service was pleasant and answered all of our questions regarding allergies and menu ingredients. We started with the carpaccio and burrata. Both were flavorful and light. Great accompaniment to our starting cocktails. For, entrees each had their own and I got the scallop pasta. My colleagues mentioned the wild boars ragu was very good and filling. He ended up boxing about 30% of the pasta to take home. The veal Milanese another colleague got was also very large and filling. My pasta was good as well. Asked for some red chili flakes which was a good complement. Only complaint is that for $32 the pasta literally only had 1 scallop. Came here yesterday for my bday dinner! My boyfriend managed to get a spot and I was highly impressed with the service and the food! For the food, really good!! The zucchini flowers were amazing! I could eat those all night. The scallops were very chewy and didn't seem fresh. The prosciutto was average nothing special. And the popular rigatoni was average too. Didn't realize I didn't ke a pic of my dessert. It took an hour after our appetizers to get our main course. Would I come back when in Toronto? No, I would try something else. But don't cross this spot off your list, at least try it once. The restrooms were clean, the DJ was great and the hostesses were definitely attractive. First and foremost, the service was excellent, and the staffs were extremely attentive. The food is just okay at best. The carpaccio was good at first bite, but as I continued eating, I found it to be too salty for my taste. The octopus was not bad, it is far superior to my mother's cooking (but to be quite honest, she's a pretty bad cook LOL). In my opinion, the lobster pasta was below average, tasting like store-bought pasta sauce. I had to drink a lot of water after eating the breaded veal. In my opinion, the wagyu was also adequate, but nothing particularly noteworthy. The tiramisu was delicious!! The coffee-flavored ice cream was a good addition. This is a gorgeous restaurant that I had been wanting to try for quite a while. Unfortunately, the decor is where the positive ended for me, and I was left feeling extremely disappointed in this meal. I had some out-of-town guests visiting and I always try to take them to the best restaurants in the city, so although I'd never been before, I took a chance with Sofia. The food was a let-down - not just for me, but also for my guests. I always have higher expectations for food when the price point is higher than average. Meaning, if my entrée is higher than $50, especially without sides, it better be amazing. It started out fine, with cocktails and appetizers of fresh oysters, stuffed olives, burrata and fritto misto. No real complaints here. The first bottle of wine that we had, based on the sommelier's recommendation, was just ok. Not really the fault of the restaurant, but we'd hoped for something a little better. The second bottle was much better. Two of us decided to share the whole lobster entree plus the tenderloin with foie gras entree. The third person in our group had the lamb, which I didn't get to taste. The steak itself was quite small and the portion of foie gras was tough and dried out (almost crunchy) on one side and generally just not seasoned well. I've had foie gras in numerous restaurants and this was hands down, the most disappointing. If I'd never had it before, based on this serving, I would be unlikely to order it again. I didn't like how they served the steak cut in half, as it cooled off too quickly. If the plate had been warm, that would have helped, too. Basically, after the second bite, the steak was cold and the marbled fat made for an unpleasant taste. The lobster was quite small as there was not much meat in it, so for $70, it was not a great value. The sides were actually pretty good - we had the spinach as well as the oyster mushrooms. Definitely enough of those to go around so they were a much better value. Dessert was probably the highlight. I really enjoyed the tiramisu. Normally, these friends of mine are thrilled with the restaurants I've chosen in the past, but they said this was the least appealing place I'd taken them to in the 10+ years they've been visiting Canada - which includes both Vancouver and Toronto. I might be tempted to give them another try, but probably not going to rush back anytime soon. I know there's a lot of great restaurants in this city!! read more

When I was here they had a zucchini flower appetizer which BLEW my mind (I don't see it on the menu anymore but i think it had crab stuffed inside). It was quite pricey for 3 pieces but the combo they used with it was so interesting and so delicate - just AMAZING. We also had the POLPO Grilled Octopus- 'Nduja Spiked Harissa, Corn Salsa, Citrus Gremolata, Roasted Sunchoke. Fresh and delicious. Then for my main I had a pasta (which again I don't see it on the menu anymore). I remember it was some sort of ravioli with walnut and truffle. SO incredible yet again and SO filling. This was my first fancy meal in a nice restaurant since the pandemic started, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was very, very good - I had the Filleto (beef tenderloin), which was perfection. Also had the Funghi (mushrooms), which were very nice, and I tried the Patate, which came with a very nice cream sauce. Their patio was very enjoyable, although the back patio is nicer and more secluded than the front patio. I look forward to when the cocktail bar opens again! My only two criticisms: 1. It's very, very expensive ($120 per person, without the cocktails). But it's Yorkville - not a surprise. 2. Service was on the slower side, but very friendly and attentive. Since this is only the second week since lockdown ended, I suspect they are understaffed. I'm sure it will improve. read more

The atmosphere is loud and the clientele are a bit obnoxious to other patrons in the restaurant. Started off with the frito misto, and it was extremely over done. They redid it but it was still extremely chewy and did not taste great.. the shrimp was fine, but the calamari in the frittura tasted like it was frozen, I've honestly had better calamari at much cheaper places. The mains are nothing to rave about, the popular rigatoni alla vodka was very spicy and the chilli overwhelmed the dish to be honest. It was not an authentic alla vodka and tasted more like a arrabiata with the amount of chilli flakes in it. Overall lackluster and lacked any sort of flavour beyond that. My partner had the branzino, but its hard to mess up fish. It did not come with a side either. The tirimisu was also nothing to rave about. Charles Khabouth's latest $9M addition, Sofia Yorkville is casual, yet refined Italian. The menu is almost perfect under Christine Mast, with an excellent selection of Carne and Pesce (including porchetta! and just one truffle pizza). The space is split in two, with the dinning room, adorned in reds and whites, reminiscent of the Mediterranean coast of Italy. It's got a very modern yet elegant and royal feel. The second space gives more of an inter city at night vibe, with an excellent bar in the centre of the room, almost like an historic bow of a ship. The bar is headed by Nishan Nepulongoda, a global veteran, and fully stocked for scotch lovers and cocktail lovers alike. Service is mature. Staff are older than Khabouth's typical formula, which reflects the perfection they're trying to achieve. It is Yorkville afterall. Currently, no patio is open yet, but there will be two (one in the north and a smaller more private one in the south). The front entrance to the restaurant is off the street, which adds a desired level of privacy. There's a lot of attention to detail at Sofia. The only challenging part with Sofia will be competing with so many perfect Italian restaurants in Yorkville, but new novelty, a full menu, and an excellent bar may be their favour. read more

A solid 3.5 stars for Sofia Yorkville. Not particular too many people at a Sunday night. Environment is elegant, a good restaurant for dating. Our server is very attentive, and always check back with us to make sure we are happy with our meal. He is definitely a nice gentleman. This is my first time to try at Sofia, and Sunday has a special on half price pasta entrees and desserts. We started with sharing a lobster bloody orange appetizer, then had lobster pasta, and beef and pork ragu pasta for the main, finished up with tiramisu. I added 1g of white truffle on the lobster pasta, costing $25 extra, but it does not really worth it. The pasta is good at the half price promotion. However, the tiramisu is the best of the whole dinner, definitely deserved a wow factor, and almost have to encore for another one. To me, I might not be back again unless I want some good price pasta at a high end fine dining restaurant. read more

Sofia takes many of the classic Italian-Mediterranean staples you know, and places them in an elevated atmosphere with elevated prices to match. The service in attentive, efficient, and spot-on, complimented by a swanky decor, over-sized seats and trendy chandeliers. Very Yorkville to say the least. With all that out of the way, we can talk about how the burrata was some of the best I've ever tried. Creamy, rich, but not heavy and cloying it was dressed with a fragrant olive oil and beautiful balsamic. The octopus was probably the star of the show for me. Perfectly charred and very tender, it sat on a squash puree and 'nduja-based sauce. The contract of sweet, spicy, meaty and char worked in amazing harmony. This is something I'd say you couldn't miss on your visit. The kanpachi crudo was delicious, but fell a little short in the flavour department. I was hoping for something more vibrant, aromatic and intensely flavoured. The fritto misto was also a little unimpressive. It didn't differ much from what we make at home, and Sofia has found an effective way to charge a lot more by adding a little lobster to the classic mix of calamari and shrimp. It wasn't bad, just not as impressive as the other items. Although the meyer lemon was a nice touch and made the dish a little more unique. read more
