This adventure takes us from Muskogee up to Soda Steve's to meet up for a visit with my mother in law after church. As the hubby and I were on the way up to the restaurant my m.i.l texted ahead try were out of rootbeer. We told her that was okay. So when we arrived, we got our large twist in a cup and sat down and visited for awhile. By the time we left it was the most quiet it had been in there in years. The menu ranges from traditional burgers and sandwiches to taco salad to a GIGANTIC Monte Cristo sandwich. If you like onions rings, theirs are delicious. They are also known for their homemade root beer. The restaurant can get busy at times, but you can wait while enjoying the view from their patio dining area. This has been a lifelong tradition in yummy indulgence until today. I don't know if there was a change in ownership or management but it was a sad disappointing experience. We waited forever, no problem because we knew it would be worth the wait. WRONG! Cheese fries are always a win - not anymore. They aren't even trying to make you think they are the same. Gone is the homemade cream soda and the hot fudge nachos were 14.95 and was disappointing to see and taste. I don't even want to remember what my all time fave mushroom burger tasted like but I hope to never taste it again. I thought maybe it was a really off day but several people hearing of my sadness said it hasn't been the same since end of last lake season. Soda Steve's use to be the place to go when at Tenkiller for the weekend, we will not be returning. We revisited this weekend and our burgers were well done at best, they were completely charred. This place is Tenkiller's place to be. The laid back vibe and decor make you think you're in a little beach town not a quiet lake restaurant. We have been many many times and have never gotten a bad meal. From the special salads to the grilled sandwich's & nachos, it's all good! The very best thing on the menu is the chocolate nachos. The fried zucchini had zero flavor and was inedible. My "Mo-chicory" sandwich was ice cold. It was as if they took a pre-cooked chicken breast from the fridge, added bacon leftover from breakfast (also cold) and put it on a cold, untoasted bun, topped with cheese, that had no chance of melting and cold hickory sauce. We had to clean our own table, while 2 employees sat at a table and watched us. There were plenty of tables, which all had blobs of food and crusty goo all over them. The best part of my meal was the lemonade from the soda fountain, because they didnt have the ability to screw that up. However, the container of unwrapped straws, waiting to give you unwanted germs from anyone who has ever gone diving for a straw for themselves, left a nasty impression with me. No thanks. The only reason anyone eats here is because it's the only place for miles. Just like Fin & Feather, it has continued to go downhill, with years of neglect and refusal to fix what's broken. The California burger I had was supposed to have maple bacon, instead I received way too crispy thin bacon, an over charred meat patty, and the "guacamole" was a spread, not at all way I expected. The lettuce was completed saturated with the excessive amount of mayo and "guac spread". The fries were the only decent part of the meal. My husband ordered their cheese and bacon fries and they were about as good as sonic cheese fries - eh. The food was ok shakes were good. They would have gotten more stars if we hadn't had to clean own table and we had gotten what we ordered. They were not busy. Then when we complained no one cared. Soda Steve's is a great place to eat if you're near Lake Tenkiller. The food is very delicious. From Patty Melts to the Mo' Chickory, it's all very good. The salads are tasty and chopped full of fresh ingredients. We're never been disappointed anytime we have came here.
