Quaint, small town, certainly where the locals eat, family atmosphere, down home cooking, portions huge, parking on the street was perfect, service was fabulous! My only complaint would be it was a little warm in there but considering it was probably 100 degrees outside there is nothing they could do. If you get a chance run by. I've been to June's a few times now and have enjoyed most entrees. This visit I got the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and a white, savory gravy and corn. The chicken fried steak was so tender and good! The mashed potatoes are real and not flakes. And the gravy is so savory and good!! I ordered one fried catfish to try and it was just OK. It is thick and flaky, but had just a touch of fishy flavor. I'm not a fan of fishy flavor. The cornbread coating was way too think too. It was golden brown, which shows me it was over cooked. I just had three bites and left the rest. The ranch dressing is homemade! One of my favorites. I'll be back again and I'll try the club sandwich. I saw so many of those being delivered to people, I know it's probably delicious! The restaurant itself is very old and charming. So glad we found this place! Two of the three of us had chicken fried steak dinners with mashed potatoes and fried okra. Mom had a side salad instead of okra. She missed out. The okra was amazing. The chicken fried steak was hand breaded and very well prepared. It was too big for any of us to finish. So bring your appetite. Family owned for 50 years, according to our waitress. Chicken salad was yummy, but they are known, and rightly so, for their 'boneless chicken' - or what the rest of the world calls chicken nuggets. Looking for a restaurant right off the interstate? Plug this place into the GPS and go- thank me later. Famous for their boneless breaded chicken, this is what Chick-fil-A would taste like if it was homemade with love. I had the boneless bowl, which is a bowl of mashed potatoes, brown gravy, corn, and chicken. So very good. For some insane reason, I thought I could eat more (spoiler alert- large portions- I could NOT finish my meal), so I had also ordered the cowboy stew (tomato based broth soup with hamburger meat, bell peppers, kidney beans, onions, carrots, potatoes, and shell pasta). That was also delicious. I finished things off with more absurdity- a slice of coconut pie with a mountain of meringue on top. Very sweet and very delicious. The reviews drew us off the freeway and we pulled into the parking spot on what I am assuming was Main Street in hopeful anticipation of a meal to remember. So that was yesterday and what do I remember? Well the cheeseburger was really good, like off the grill on the 4th of July good. The coconut cream pie was homemade and spectacular according to my mother in law, and the wife said the cheese balls and steak fingers were good too. This place was a fun-find on a trip to Oklahoma. It is located in downtown Checotah, which turns out to be where Carrie Underwood is from, which I only knew from a shrine of her in a business window. Someone parked their tractor outside of the restaurant, which just set the tone for the town. It was definitely a different pace than I was accustomed to. The restaurant reflected an environment just oozing with southern hospitality and comfort food. The food certainly was just that, but the service was not as friendly as I expected. They seemed to look at us a little sideways, kind of like they knew we were not from those parts and didn't trust us... could have been my imagination, but the wait staff was not very personable with us, although they were polite enough. You could not beat the prices here. They had the best value I've seen for the amount and quality. It made my day, especially being from the Bay Area where the prices are exorbitant. read more

My sister and I went here for lunch on Wednesday. I had read reviews and it sounded like a good local option while we were in Checotah one day. It's downtown so there's lots of shops to explore when you're finished eating. I had the grilled onion burger and fries. My sister had the half order of boneless fried chicken, which came with mashed potatoes (real, not instant!)and gravy, a salad and Texas toast. Everything was great and the portions were generous. My sis couldn't finish her half order! The burger was perfectly cooked, onions were carmelized, the lettuce, tomato, and pickles were fresh and crispy. Although we made the block twice looking for this jewel we knew it would be worth the wait, difficult to spot from the sidewalk had we driven by we wouldn't have missed it.
