Five stars for the server and because it's tough being a locally owned restaurant. I liked the Texas toast and that the chicken fried steak was served on top of the gravy. I also appreciated the counter staff making sure I knew the brown gravy had mushrooms. I hate mushrooms and that would've been awful for me. Now for the bad news. For a place called Soda Pops, I expected there to be more variety of soft drinks than the standard Coke fare. The fried mozzarella tasted like the kind you buy at the grocery store frozen food section. The mashed potatoes didn't taste very good. Also, you can't get the onion rings as your side dish with the dinner for some odd reason. So, go to Soda Pops, have the burger and enjoy the staff. read more

Where have you been all my life??? I must've passed this café 100 times since I've been on the southside. A friend took me here and I had the Indian frybread. It was the best I've ever had. My friend showed me the 2025 awards which included the fry bread. The restaurant is friendly, clean and neat.The food is delicious. I will be back. read more

My daughter, grandson and I ordered from here yesterday 6/10. My daughter and I are always looking for a good salad...well we found it here, we had the fried chicken salad and added an egg (because we love egg on our salad), I ordered Onion Rings and my grandson had a burger and ff. Oh my gosh it was absolutely delicious!!! The freshness of everything (even the oil it was fried in) the taste of the chicken on the salad and the Onion Rings were the best I have had...Sonic used to be good, but not anymore. All the people complaining about the frybread tacos haven't gone to enough PowWows, Dances, fundraisers - these were delicious frybread tacos. They were generous, the meat lightly seasoned to satisfy most people's tastes (and they offered sauces to spice it up, so maybe those others didn't take the sauces?), fresh-cooked (not canned) beans, lots of lettuce, cheese, and tomatoes, with the offer of more toppings. For a diner frybread taco, it was well done. My only complaint was the tomatoes. They were beautiful - crisply cut, a ripe red, lots of luculence. Sadly, despite appearances, they were past their prime. This isn't something the people there would have known - the tomatoes LOOKED perfect. It took me several bite to figure out the off flavor was the tomatoes and once I removed them, the frybread taco was very good. My companion had the chopped sirloin dinner and was delighted with it - the mushroom gravy was pleasing, the meat nicely cooked and flavorful, and she was impressed with the potatoes. As for the people, they greeted us when we walked in, gave us space to make our selections, and were helpful as we ordered. The food came out quick, and the waitstaff was attentive without being intrusive. They were kind, polite, professional, helpful, and brought us to-go cups of the beverages we were having. We did not have to track anyone down to pay when we were done - they were there promptly. The ambience was adorable - the place is filled with soda memorabilia and tons of different kinds of soda bottles (some of which may have come from Pop's Soda Ranch up in Arcadia). I don't know if the juke box works as no one played it while we were there. Overall, it was a cozy lunch experience with good food. We don't generally travel to the south side, so this won't be a place we frequent, but it is aplace we will plan to visit when we shop down south. read more

The best thing is the ranch dressing. Not sure what they do to prepare but it's excellent. Everything else is subpar. Hamburgers are dry and not tasty. This place is a hit or miss. The only thing I've enjoyed from here is the chicken fried chicken sandwich. Does not come with a side so sides are separate. Skip the Indian taco, it's not good. I had fish and it was wonderful and very unique the batter was different than any fried fish ever had very thin and crispy not greasy.. The homemade chicken noodle soup my sister said was wonderful as well. This was a great find while working in the area recently! I'll begin by stating though that the set up was not typical. You order at the front counter, then get seated and they bring your drinks and food. You pay the server at the end. I don't really understand why the server doesn't just take your order if they are the ones you pay, but whatever. Our server Pamela (I think) was a delight and made our experience even better than it was from the delicious food! I really enjoyed my chicken fried chicken sandwich and onion rings. I also tried the fries which were good too. With similar establishments closer to home for me, I don't necessarily see me coming back here. We've enjoyed Soda Pop's for years. Ordered to-go tonight and had their chicken fried steak dinner and chicken finger dinner. Both were excellent and hot. Chicken fried steak was tender and easy to cut, chicken fingers were crisp and juicy. Their homemade mashed potatoes and gravy taste great like always. The salad with house made ranch was good too. My only complaint was not enough gravy for my chicken fingers, but my husband had enough to share. Best American home style food in this part of the city. read more

I have legit loved the chef salad's from this place since I was like 12 years old. I suddenly remembered them out of the blue today and had a super intense craving so down to the south side I went. We ordered the chef salad, fried mushrooms, fried steak sandwich and a piece of lemon cake. Everything was super good! Best chilli cheese burger in the metro, goes great with a twisted tator, I do light seasoning on the tator, and the drinks have perfect crushed ice, for some reason it just makes the soda better, price is good too, with 2 people it's just around the 20 dollar range, just be careful you might end up getting another twisted tator for the ride home, ask for Virginia she's on point with the service, one of my favorite places to eat...so so good!! read more

I'm a fan! I work right down the street but never had an urge to try this place. My dad and I decided to try this place out and we were super pleased! Pretty good lunch crowd but fast and friendly service. We ordered a cheeseburger with fries. Simple burger with shredded lettuce, onions, and pickles. No tomatoes if i remember right. Fries were hot and crispy and loved their crushed styled ice. Salads looked pretty good which plenty of people ordered around us. Definitely want to return and try their onion rings! read more

After we were seated in our booth, the server puts out wet floor signs at both ends of our section, there were customers in many of the booths and the floor was not wet nor had anything been spilled. People were walking around them to sit down at the booths. The portion size was extremely small, the charbroiled chicken on my sandwich wasn't even the size of the bread, it was a rubbery preformed not charbroiled on the grill piece of tasteless chicken. The Soda Pops super steak sandwich also had no taste, too much batter and fell apart while trying to eat it, you would think that if the sandwich bears your name it would be a really good sandwich. The fries are an extremely small order especially when you have to pay $2.69 for them! WOW must say the $25 our meal cost we could have gone and had a really good meal. First visit and I noticed almost all reviews are from years ago. Worst meal in a long time and was like pre-made cafeteria food. 1. Indian taco was so over cooked you couldn't even eat it. 2. Chicken fried steak was rubbery, the okra and mashed potatoes were stone cold. 3. Waited 15 minutes just to get our drinks since you have to order at the counter. Was hungry and it's close to my apartment so why not try this place out. My cheeseburger with bacon fries and drink came out to $10.17 with tax. So plain and not good at all. We often come to Soda Pops. When you walk in, you'll notice they place is dripping with nostalgia. There isn't a wall that doesn't have old soda pop bottles on them or an advertisement straight out of the 50's. We like the food and the atmosphere and the service is always nice. I usually get they chicken fried chicken sandwich, only I add cheese and pickles. I highly suggest you give it a try it's really good. My sandwich was cooked perfectly. The outer crust was crispy and flavorful while the chicken was still juicy. The French fries here are unlike the ones you would usually get at a restaurant. They are really crispy and have a nice flavor. Usually, my boys will get one grilled cheese, an order of the chicken nuggets (hand cut and and breaded) and then split everything up between the two. Today, they both got a grilled cheese which was made well. The bread was nice and crispy but still soft in the middle and the cheese gooey. They have really good tea as well. Now, I'm not sure about you, but a good tea can make a mediocre day just a bit brighter. Sigh...I love tea. Anyway, the food is worth the stop in and the service will leave you with a smile on your face. Try it! I hope you enjoy it. read more

Seriously overpriced for what you get. I am not certain, but I think they may have raised their prices over the years. The food is decent, but mostly gives me pre-prepared vibes. My favorite part is that the have drive-up places to order and generally have a treat for my dog. For the quality of the food, prices could be lower considering you can get the same thing elsewhere for less. The inside of the diner is nice, definitely on theme and nostalgic. read more

Love love love this place! Me and my kids eat hear at least 2 or 3 times a month. The food is great and kid friendly. The staff is always polite and super helpful.
