I retired and received my statement of benefits from SSA. And the numbers didn't make any sense. So during the 2025 government shutdown, I called them anyway. Five minutes on hold, and Aaron at the Denver office picked up my call. I explained my questions, and she also thought the numbers were off. She put me on hold to talk to a specialist, and a few minutes later I had all my answers. She was awesome and provided service I never would have expected, especially given the shutdown. Called on 12-26-23 to follow up on my 10-16-23 application for Social Security benefits. The woman who answered was extremely rude and would not let me explain what I was calling about. When I tried a second time to explain she grunted and hung up on me. As a professional, tax paying citizen who has worked for 50 years I am horrified with this kind of treatment. I had to get a new social security card and was dreading, just DREADING coming here and damn it downtown, I had to circle twice to find parking (at 930am on a week day, no less). From outside, it looked like a spooky, abandoned building and inside, the hallways resembled the type of place where toothless, breathy persons offer you something called "Mehth." The elevator is so gross you don't even want to breath... Please listen to the tip about taking the "Emergency Exit" door right next to the elevator, just go up one floor to get to the office. Once in the office though, it was so quick! Seriously, ten minutes. I spoke to an actual person (who was friendly! Bubbly even!) and the whole thing was relatively painless! Now granted, I had all my papers organized and relative shit together, if you will. There was a very unfortunate person next to me who apparently got out of the hospital, had no papers, didn't know where to get them, didn't want to leave and come back, was getting irate... And I felt for the guy, his story really sucked, really. But I also felt for the employee who was surprisingly calm and unfazed, as though she dealt with this shit all of the time, you know? Anyway, this place was great because I got my card in like a week and I found out where the government keeps its best employees. That's right, these government employees are THE BEST. I had to stop by the social security administration office because I was bad and misplaced by ssc. Once inside the office you must go to the kiosk. After selecting the reason you are at the office you are given a piece of paper with a number on it. You must sit in the waiting room and once your number is called you can go and take care of whatever situation is at hand. Sounds easy, right? WRONG!!! Finding the office, selecting the right option on the kiosk, and dealing with the actual administration worker is perfectly fine...it's siting in the waiting room for hours while multiple numbers are being called out and signs keep changing with flashing red lights. This location isn't bad if you have to go to take care of something. Once you talk to an real living being the office doesn't seem that bad. My only recommendation would be to go in the afternoon, since the security officers said the office is always ccrazy busy in the morning (and filled with crazy people from the downtown area if you know what I mean!) read more

Well if you must go, the service is as quick as can be given it is a government office. It is hard to find though and you will have to be prepared to pay for parking and possibly walking. Easier in the Burbs for sure. read more

Took a number from the kiosk at 9:40am. The lady at window K was calling people to her desk (my number is S144). At 10am she called S142 and the reader board says she's still working with that client but her metal window is shut and no one is in the chairs at her window. She may have taken a break? It's now 10:29am and her metal gate on her window is closed. read more

This place is old, outdated and in very much need of redoing. The intercom speaker to call out numbers is loud and annoying and goes off every 2 minutes. The crowd here is pretty shady, already seen one girl removed in handcuffs by the 2 Rental Cops here for throwing chairs ( her benefits got cut due to drug use ). Get here as early as possible they open at 9 AM. but we arrived at 930 and there was already 60 ppl here. Enjoy the long wait, no food or drinks allowed at all. Btw the elevator getting you here holds about 5 ppl and appears to be from the 1970s. I lost my SS Card hence why I'm here dealing with these guys. Btw, if you get here early enough you can literally park across the street in the lot for 7 bucks. There were 12 open slots available when I arrived. 1.5 hours to get new card issued...WTH ??? Btw, there are signs all over clearly stating No Photographs Allowed, but as I pointed out to the rental cop ( I'm a Photographer by trade ) its illegal to enforce this topic in a public place even inside a government facility the SCOTUS agrees... Not only is this building disgusting old and creepy the employees obviously hate being there too. The security guards are helpful and probably the nicest person you'll interact with. Did the kiosk thing wrong and the lady in cubicle A literally shooed me away didn't let me talk kept repeating the same thing over and over & didn't want to offer any other help besides "you did it wrong go back and do it again" didn't tell me what I pressed wrong or anything so security came and helped me. So there I go waiting again finally get called and I apparently didn't bring the right documents. I literally waited 45 mins on the phone with customer service to ask this exact question what documents can I bring in, I brought immunization records and they can't take that nor a birth certificate. She was rude and irritable looked like she just wanted me out of her face. She didn't give me any information on what I can bring just told me to call again or look online. I used yo give this place a good word cause I've came here for many years but looks like the pandemic made everyone angry and miserable. DO NOT COME HERE make the trip and go to aurora or Lakewood that is where I will be heading. Never coming here again felt like a child getting yelled at by these broads. read more

Honestly I was avoiding getting my daughters social security card replaced because i assumed it would take forever and the place was downtown which i hate driving/parking there!! But there was a perfect little valet parking lot right across street from the office so i dropped my car there!! It does seem like a sketchy building for the office to be in and I wasn't sure i was in the right place but don't worry you are!! Hope for the best, expect the worst. We had a very smooth day. We arrived at 8:20 am. We waited outside and at 8:45 am they opened the door and let us in. We waited a short time for the elevator, then a short time to sign in at the kiosk. We were called in after waiting 20 minutes. I would like to thank Chris, our customer service agent who made the process very easy. He handled our issue very professionally and we were out the door. I suggest making sure you have all of the required paperwork which makes the process much easier on everyone. Just a side note: We parked across the street with valet parking it also went great! read more

Wow! Couldn't believe it. I've been dreading going down to the social Security office downtown to change my name to my new married name. I hate parking down but I found metered parking right in front of the building. I went on a Tuesday afternoon at 12:45 PM. I figured it would be super busy and that I would be there for an hour or so. The building was a bit rundown but the office itself was fine. From the time I checked in, got called to the window, took care of my business, and back out to my car was 15 minutes total. They were so fast and friendly. What a great experience. read more

A pretty terrible place to have to visit but in the end, there's not much you can do about it. Thankfully the officers on duty were good natured and cracked jokes about how fun of a place it was. I showed up 15 minutes prior to opening (9am on a Thursday) and waited behind 20-30 people already in line outside. Secret's out - you don't have to wait for the archaic elevator once you're inside. The sign to the left says emergency exit but really it's a magical portal to help you bypass an inevitably stinky, crammed elevator experience. read more

The reviews I read couldn't have been more wrong. I showed up an hour after they opened and waited less than 10 minutes. The women helping me was very kind and attentive. My paperwork for a new SS card took under 5 minutes and it took less than a week to arrive at my house by mail. The officers in the lobby were even kind and helpful. The office was easy to find and although not the closest to me, I chose this one as I could get an appointment there earlier than the closest office. My name was called very close to my appointment time if not even a bit early which was good. I came to get some numbers so I could decide when I wanted to file for retirement benefits. Unfortunately the person I got was very unfriendly and made me feel like I needed to hurry. As she gave me info, I asked some followup questions to clarify and got a different answers than the 1st time I asked on some of the questions? So after I got a printout of some numbers (after she said she couldn't do that) she promptly asked if I wanted to file for benefits or not. Since I came in to get detailed numbers for my financial planner (which is what I told her at the start) to look at and used to determine the best decision, I don't think she listened to me at all as this seems obvious that it's not a snap decision. Anyway, there may be some nice friendly service agents but the person I had gave me a very bad perception. I'd mention her name but she said it rather fast (and there are not names posted) at the start and it's a little hard to hear as they are behind glass windows with other noise from people talking at adjacent windows. read more

Not a l place. I saw them deny access to homeless people trying too apply for disability because they did not have documents or something too present they were made to leave the building. People are fighting and rude too one another here. The security guards were laughing at the conflict and made the gay woman leave for being threatened by another woman there in the lobby. I had an uncomfortable Waite some days they are not too long and it seems right others the Waite is very long. Posters say it's illegal to record any thing or take any pictures. At my appointment I found out they are reporting out of date contradictory information. They are still telling transgender people they have too have proof of surgery. They are reporting information about people's gender something they have known for a long time is illegal protected information. The guards barley keep the situation under control. It is a terrifying experience. This building is poorly marked you can barley tell it is a government building. Very poorly kept the elevator is cramped and smells awful. read more

I was treated very poorly by a telephone customer service representative of the Social Security Administration. First I called 1-800-772-1213. A recording indicated there was a 57-minute wait and that help could also be found online at SSA.gov. I sent a very polite and detailed email via that website and received a response that I should call. I called 1-800-772-1213 again and held for 24 minutes. I politely and intelligently explained my issue to the woman who answered. She apparently made an immediate assumption and proceeded to be extremely rude to me. I politely explained my issue again because her assumption was not correct. After a 24-minute hold, and a 15-minute frustrating conversation, she said I didn't know what I was talking about (because I changed my story according to her... after I corrected her assumption) and that I had no business trying to help my nephew (who I explained was slow) and that he should go into an office to get help and hung up on me. I wrote another email and explained what happened and have received no response. This is the ultimate in getting "the run-around." I'd like to remind the SSA and its reps that it's the tax dollars of "We the People" that fund the SSA and the paychecks of its reps. read more

Awful place. Location downtown makes parking difficult and you can only find two hour spots. Got to the office, got a number. Was called in 10 minutes and verified I had an appointment at 1. Waited waited during which time a gal and a guy almost got into a fight and the police were called. Finally I went back and asked about my appointment. 10 min later I was called and the guy apologised, said their computer systems didn't let him.know I was waiting and that their systems were in bad shape. We got through the paper work. I asked why it was so difficult to get an appointment (I had called about 15 times previously to try to set one up). He said their systems always filled up immediately and that he had no time to and we're calls or return voice mails. Especially a problem for Colorado Social Security. This whole operation is a debacle! I had signed up for Medicare online and it said I was enrolled, but it turns out I wasn't, and I found that out by calling a Medicare Advantage provider that informed me I wasn't. God help us if we ever go to government socialized medicine. read more
