Cold floors, cramped quarters and bad lighting. I give one star for the white bread and sliced cheese sandwich.

2 part review: Hmmm. Where to start. When I was being…read morearrested my GF said the word 'suicide'. NEVER do this to anybody, please. This started the protocol. Stripped naked and put in a bare cement, windowless, benchless, very cold 'holding cell' that only had a small grate in the corner to relieve myself. I was given a 'suicide' vest that was supposed to be held closed with Velcro straps, but they are rendered useless from years of use so you had to hold it closed with your hands to somewhat cover yourself when interacting with jail personnel and being walked through the jail to your cell when you're finally processed in (no idea how long this lasted because there is no clue as to how much time had passed). No, no underwear. Once in the cell, I now had a mat to be upon. The mat also had been rendered flat by years of use, think of a very short knapped piece of pad-less carpet covered by a deteriorated plastic tarp. Only the very outside edges had any thickness left. No toilet paper until the night shift got there as the daytime guards ignored my polite pleas. Who on Earth thought this would be helpful, in any way, to anyone whom actually is suicidal? I did have a 5' square woolen old Army style blanket to cover my nakedness and try to stay warm (hint: use it diagonally to cover your feet and most of your body). As I understand it, 90% of the jail's population has no pillow. Sounds like a whiney gripe, but try to sleep on your floor (don't forget to cover it with a ratty plastic tarp first, no sheets allowed) without one and tell me how that goes. 4 days without an option to shower or brush my teeth. Arresting officers 'declined' to bring my glasses against the pleas of myself and my GF so I couldn't read anything, including the paperwork I had to sign. Then things started to look up for me. I got a uniform. Don't know if it's part of the punishment process but the shoes are made of foam and bright orange crock-like things. :-D Food: comes in 2 flavors, tasteless and vile. Always cold. No salt or pepper allowed. I have no idea what horrible thing happened to whomever planned and cooked the meals but my prayers go out for you (all'ya'all). Very much have the impression that someone is pocketing a lot of coin on the cost of each meal. On the court side, I was impressed, very favorably. I was 'released' and put back on probation at 8:15am on Thursday. Arapahoe County wanted to bring me to court as well. I brought this up in court at the end and was told, "Don't worry about it, call this number and you'll be out by noon." By the Judge. The number I was given does not accept calls from the jail. I had to wait until I had dayroom privileges to try as you'll NEVER be able to make a toll free phone call, for any reason, even if instructed by the Judge to do so. I asked about this and was told to fill out a 'kite' form. This I did and it was promptly ignored no matter how many times or whom I asked. I had to get help to dial the phone and read the number on the card from fellow inmates because I can't see anything without my glasses. By Friday my GF managed to set up a very expensive account to be able to accept my calls (someone is banking coin on this too). She came and posted bail for Arapahoe County first thing Saturday morning. So I only had to stay an extra 2 days for no reason, other than the inability to make a non-collect phone call. Bail bonds places do NOT accept the phone calls either. Day-shift deputies are mirthless, surly people whom are unhelpful if at all possible. My poor cellmate was withdrawing from heroin and twitched horribly. He spilled his juice cup all over himself and blanket. After asking the deputy 4 times for new clothes and a blanket, I overheard her telling another guard but..."don't be in a hurry about it." Evening and nightshift deputies treat you as if you are almost human. Yeah, I understand it's jail and there's always someone banging on their cell door in the throws of withdrawal screaming, "LET ME OUT!" over and over (and after all, if they let them out, it would wreck the entire idea of jail) but I think most prisoners ask for reasonable things like a paper spoon to eat with, tp, ect. Someone in the medical department DID get me an oxygen machine after a few days which I need. Thanks to whomever that was!

She was amazing and always went out of her way to help, unlike most of the other officers. That's where the positives end. I truly pray for any woman who ends up here. Medical care is practically nonexistent. You will be ignored, you will suffer, and your health will decline while you're inside. The so-called mental health services were the worst. My problems were brushed aside completely until I threatened a lawsuit, and even then, I never actually received meaningful care. Other counties manage their jails far better, with at least basic dignity and accountability. Jefferson County, by comparison, is a disgrace. This place is by far the worst!!

I am not too aware of all the history behind the building, but I look forward to soon. There are plenty of places to eat and have a drink in and around Union Station (breakfast spot, coffee spot, at least 2 bars I'm aware of, etc). It really is a nice place to both begin and end trips. It is hard to explain but I'm sure you'll know what I'm talking about when you see it. It is also a nice place to get some work done. There are plenty of places to sit and plug in. I love Cooper Lounge upstairs where you can get a classy espresso martini and have an elevated experience and watch the activity below. There is so much going on in all of the various wings of this place! A hotel, other restaurants, at Christmas there is a holiday popup in the basement, a ticketing station, etc! I've really only been to the main area and love the new beautiful installment of Pigtrain Coffee. I love the fancy pistachio pastry dessert at Baumé and the Christmas tree decor this past year was AMAZE. I feel like it represents a standard that people will experience throughout Denver in their travels like if they just arrived there via Union Station or are relatively new. It's a vibe of quality that permeates throughout.

They won't give you the attention that is needed regardless if it's serious or not. There was an inmate here that had a broken jaw for two months and barely a week ago was he "allowed" to go to a hospital and seek real professional medical attention. I personally feel like places like these are a joke because their medical staff is completely useless. What is the point in paying these medical staff members if they're not doing their jobs properly and within the medical scope of practice? This place has already been on the news once and it so desperately needs to get the same publicity. It's only a matter of time before this place gets another lawsuit. They treat animals better than the people who are inside of here and regardless of what crime they may or may not have committed (because we all know women are allowed to file false charges and land you in here) they deserve to be treated like human beings.

While here, he learned he had colon cancer so I became his official spiritual advisor since I have my seminary degree and work in ministry. The Independence House worked with authorities to allow my friend to move back to California to be with his sister in his dying days, then it got tragic. Workers at the security desk here stole ALL of the medication out of my friend's suitcase and he didn't realize it until he got back to California. So the Filmore House (as it's also called) asked him to come pick up his social security checks and meds, but HE IS IN CALIFORNIA!!! Now, I'm sitting out front, waiting for the police to come to see if I can get my friend's CANCER AND MENTAL HEALTH MEDICATION because they are refusing to return it! Unbelievable!!! Avoid this place at all cost. Some good people work here... the rest SHOULD BE in jail! Ugh! **Update - had to call the police and contact the people who run this place to get the meds and social security checks released. Conner, who is in charge of security, needs to be fired today. This same security desk called me and my friend's sister the day he was released, claiming he left belongings there, left with his fiancé (he doesn't have one) and he had to return immediately. They even told me he said he was staying at my house that night! We were in a panic all night because my friend didn't have his phone charged and we thought he was drunk, dead or in a ditch somewhere. Turns out, he spent the night with his sponsor and told Independence House this before he left. Absolutely, horrible dealing with Conner over there. Inexcusable way to treat people! STAY AWAY!!!

ACRC is a transitional residential facility for women. AKA a halfway house for female convicts…read more FYI, I am neither female nor a convict. HOWEVER, my company has hired 19 of their residents this year and currently still employ several that have completed their term here. The advantages to hiring them don't come without some small problems. Some of the advantages are a population of potential employees EAGER to work and W2W tax credits (download form 8850) from IRS. The disadvantages... well yeah, there are a couple. Many of the residents have constant meetings with case managers and different classes (most can be moved). Some residents that have ID theft convictions and aren't allowed to work with money (sort of a no brainer though). There are some with unusually high amounts of drama, but most of the highest risk convicts go to the facility downtown and don't come from ACRC. I've worked with residents of this facility for several years, most are great. You'll need a very good HR person to interview to weed out people and a experienced trustworthy manager (since many haven't seen a man in a long time). Occassionally, there will be some odd situations. The gas station across the street from us closed it's bathroom cause one of the gals turned tricks in there after work. Other than that, the facility is well run. The Center Director has come to visit us and I get the feeling very little gets past her. Most of the case managers there are very polite and professional with us too.

Acrc then cuts checks to them two weeks later for the amount they request if approved. Yes this does teach the girls budgeting, planning, and responsibility. But when these girls receive these checks and take them to king sopers or walmart or even the bank they cannot cash these checks because they bounce. So tell me how a place that has over 100 residence living there paying rent and turning in their earned money to them cannot even cover checks for personal needs. And because of this some of the girls are at risk of being regressed back to jail or even prison. This to me is very wrong. 90% of the girls there are working very hard to change their lives for the better and all acrc is doing is taking money from these girls and spending their money on who knows what then telling the girls "if you don't like it we will send you back". Needless to say all the girls are scared to take action against acrc due to back lash from acrc. To me this sounds like a fraud. I am personally taking steps to help threw the BBB, consumer protection and the arapahoe sheriff's office and I truly hope that others will to.
