Don't ever go there, or ever opt for work release to the judge if you don't already have a job because you will be sent to a day labor place of your choice, Lakewood, or Denver. But if you don't get sent out for the day you have to go back to the work release part of the jail. I mean it is nice because you can wear your normal cloths in the work release jail and shoes, you can buy shampoo and stuff to make you smell good and feel clean at the store, like sign yourself out of the work release jail and go to kingsoopers down the street from the jail. But your rent has to be two weeks paid in advance before you can do any of that. But when you get assigned work release from the judge you go back to minimum, or medium, or where ever you are in the jail before you go down, you wait a few days or one depending how fast you get sent down, once down there you get to provide them a few References to go home for a few hours to get tooth brushes and what ever, make a quick trip to the store to get a few items to take to jail with you I.e. alarm clock, stick of deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, slippers for the showers, a must if you don't want foot fungus from those dirty showers, cloths for work, steel toe boots because if you work day labor you will work construction and it's a must, so Wal-Mart would be your best bet to get everything because they also carry steel toe boots and jackets, gloves, and warm cloths if you do work release in the winter. I remember getting up at 4:30 am to check out to work at day labor to catch the light rail that morning and when I got to my locker to get my phone and cigs before we walk the long sidewalk to to the light rail it was like 40 below and my fingers were frozen and had to keep moving my fingers because it was soo cold, so if you work day labor in the winter get warm cloths because you will freeze. It's best if you don't talk to the guards or even let then know you, really, just keep Your head down and do your thing. They are freaking jerks when it comes to you walking behind them on accident, they will throw you to the ground, one old guard tried to do that to me but could not because he was too old to even be a guard, lol, so he stopped trying and said don't walk behind me again, lol. Yes you can smoke and chew when your outside away from the work release area. There are a couple of tricks ill tell you if you end up there, one, if you don't have much cash or cell phone and want to call someone you can sign yourself out to the hospital, like act like your not feeling good and want to see a doctor, but make sure it's something you can pull off, because they can see through b.s. I signed out to the hospital one too many times and got sent back up to the jail, I had to wait two weeks before I got sent back down to work release. I got lucky I was there before they shut down the visiting windows and turned it all to video visits, so I got to see my wife and daughter in the window. They do have washer dryers and some inmates will be nice enough to wash some of your cloths, just remember to return the favor some how, I washed a few people cloths and they gave me sweets and stuff from there canteen. Make your bed like you are trying to impress a military sergeant because you will come back to your bed flipped over and belongings thrown around. So make sure you put everything nice and neat under your bunk and in your locker. I understand you 're there to do time the judge gave you, but the way they treat some people over others is bs. I seen a dude get popped for meth on a drug test and they gave him a second chance, then another guy shaves his head with a jail razor and they send him back up to jail, I think the guy they gave a second chance to was always on time with rent and paid a lot, that's why. Also I had suspicion the guards were dipping in the 're n't the inmates paid from there jobs, one gaurd got fired for it from what I remember. One gaurd threatened to beat me up and punch me when I got sent up the one time, wife called call the sergeant and told him what I said and he came up yelling at me saying I was a liar, blah, blah, blah. I won t say the name of the prick who threatened me but I didn't see him there for a while and he was always nice to me after that so he must have got into some trouble over it. But that place sucks and they should treat you better, I mean, your not there for murder. One more thing before I go is that they rattle your nerves before you even get back to your pod from work. They have you wait in waiting room when you return there from work, then they say how many ever can go back to the room to get patted down and checked, they make you take everything out of your pockets put on a concrete bench then make you go to a room and take off your clothes and shoes socks and bend over to show your crack and balls to make sure you didn't smuggle anything in from work, you have to do this daily after work when you return to work release. read more
