Denver Union Station is a very large, very grand structure designed to help human beings move from one spot on the Earth to another. I did not ride a train here. I simply walked inside, stared at the ceiling, drank coffee, and conducted myself like a person who had accidentally discovered that a transportation building can be a tourist attraction. The central room is called the Great Hall, and it is appropriately named. It features sixty-foot arched ceilings, giant chandeliers, and Beaux-Arts masonry that suggests important historical figures in dramatic clothing ought to be striding through the doors. The original station opened in 1881, burned down in 1894 because wooden structures are vulnerable to fire, and was rebuilt in 1914. A century later, after a long period of quiet decline, it was reimagined as a combination of train terminal, boutique hotel called The Crawford, cocktail venue known as the Terminal Bar, and general indoor living room for the public. It should be noted that it is not meant to stand in as a bedroom, however, as my friend was sternly warned about napping there by a camera guided security officer. If you look closely, the building contains small physical clues about the past. There are display cases showing forgotten items recovered from the original wooden waiting benches, vintage railroad artifacts, and framed architectural blueprints from 1914. These objects serve as physical proof that millions of long-gone citizens once sat in this exact space holding tickets to towns that have since changed beyond recognition or disappeared entirely. I stood with a hot beverage and watched the endless parade of organisms. There were hurried commuters, confused tourists, hotel guests with rolling suitcases, and individuals who had entered for no apparent reason other than that the room was warm and visually pleasing. Outside, Wynkoop Plaza connects the granite building to the Lower Downtown neighborhood with splash fountains and outdoor benches. You can buy a cocktail, eat an expensive meal, or sit on a plush couch and contemplate the sheer volume of human lives that have intersected under this roof over the past one hundred and forty years. I cannot report on whether the Amtrak trains operate according to their printed schedules. Based on my personal experience, I would doubt it, but that is hardly the fault of the station. I have no opinion regarding the cushioning of the waiting room chairs. I did not inspect the platform boarding platforms. I came strictly to observe a magnificent survivor made of stone and iron, and the station performed its duty. Sometimes the most satisfying place to arrive is the building originally constructed to send you somewhere else.
Loved the union station. It has a vibe. We rode in from the airport to union Station since our hotel was close by. It has a very chill atmosphere,lots of seating to just chill and eating and drink options. There's an ice cream place, a cafe, few restaurants. Chocolate shop, book shop etc. They have a simple but pleasant water fountain outside. There were always people around and lots of activity eveeytime we went or passed by. Much better than the 16th street mall road in my opinion.
Such a gorgeous train station! There's a bar, multiple restaurants, shops, places to sit, relax. Unfortunately I didn't get to enjoy too much because I went after everything was closed. However we were able to walk around and enjoy the architecture. Downside is parking. There's street paid metered parking, but know it can get super packed on any given day. Really pretty place to take pictures too. I think there's a hotel inside as well :)
Enjoyed the past few mornings including today, sitting here in the station as we savored hot caffeinated drinks from the Pigtrain cafe. Lots of comfortable seating available. Tons of fun people watching. And beware putting your luggage or your feet up on any furniture as you'll be reprimanded by the staff here who are keeping the place clean and civilized for everybody. ;) We asked the gentleman at the information desk about taking the train back to the airport this afternoon. He was throughly helpful. It's $10 a person, tix purchased at an automated kiosk, and the Aline comes every 15 minutes. Convenient!
This station is a bright, elegant and beautiful nod to New York's Grand Central, just a little smaller and a little newer. Great concept to have central sofa areas with low tables as well as benches and high tables in the middle for people to relax with food and drink from the surrounding bars, cafes and eateries. A few upscale places to shop for floral arrangements, chocolates, trinkets and books. As a transit stop and tourist hub, Denver did it good!
Denver's Union Station is full of history, good eats/drinks, and the beginning or end of trip stories. I am not too aware of all the history behind the building, but I look forward to soon. There are plenty of places to eat and have a drink in and around Union Station (breakfast spot, coffee spot, at least 2 bars I'm aware of, etc). It really is a nice place to both begin and end trips. It is hard to explain but I'm sure you'll know what I'm talking about when you see it. It is also a nice place to get some work done. There are plenty of places to sit and plug in. Keep in mind that the bathrooms downstairs are open to the public so you may see some interesting things and individuals there.
This is definitely the nicest train station I've ever been to. There are coffee shops, restaurants, shops, and tables inside for seating. It is very clean and has tons of things to do while waiting for your train. It is located very close to a few hotels on the street which is really convenient! We took the train directly from the airport to union station and then only had to walk about 100 yards to our hotel. The airport ride was only $10 as well!
First time in Denver and this stunning landmark did not disappoint! The interior is full of nostalgic charm. I didn't catch a train, but I really enjoyed the cute shops inside and the fantastic food options all around the station. It's the perfect spot to grab a souvenir and a must-visit when exploring the city!
I LovE Denver's Union station. I have lived in and visited many other cities (over time, so they may have renovated since) but Denver's Union station feels so fresh and modern with historic bones - not just like historic and old or something. I love Cooper Lounge upstairs where you can get a classy espresso martini and have an elevated experience and watch the activity below. There is so much going on in all of the various wings of this place! A hotel, other restaurants, at Christmas there is a holiday popup in the basement, a ticketing station, etc! I've really only been to the main area and love the new beautiful installment of Pigtrain Coffee. I love the fancy pistachio pastry dessert at Baumé and the Christmas tree decor this past year was AMAZE. I feel like it represents a standard that people will experience throughout Denver in their travels like if they just arrived there via Union Station or are relatively new. It's a vibe of quality that permeates throughout.
I 100% recommend taking the train to/from the airport if you are staying in the Union Station neighborhood. Clean and efficient trains, every 15 minutes during the day. MUCH cheaper and quicker than Uber...especially during peak times.
We took the train in from the airport and were greeted by Denver Union Station. It's beautiful inside and the lights on the outside at night were iconic. We didn't spend too much time here, but we were so thankful that travelling by train was so easy for the trip. We didn't even rent a car, we just hopped on a few trains and took a couple Uber rides. If you're visiting I would definitely recommend checking it out and travelling by train here.
I have been wanting to come here for a while while and last year around Christmas time was perfect the whole place is awesome inside and out. See u this holidays.
Stunning location and my only regret is not having enough time to explore it. I plan to check it more when I come back to Denver. In the meantime, take care of it and I'll update my review when I visit it again.
Trains have become my new obsession since moving to Denver! The commute is a breeze and I have never had a train run late.. always on schedule, so you can make your appointment. RTD is the perfect way to get to the airport and skip paying for parking! The train is cheap to ride and always clean, safe and comfortable. read more
What an absolutely beautiful station. I was impressed with the outside and then when I went inside the building I was taken aback. It wasn't what I as expected at all. There were arched windows, beautiful lighting, and everything was just so bright due to the two. Inside there was a variety of places to eat. There were restaurants, a bar, and a coffee shop from what I had seen. I came early in the morning, so only the coffee shop was open. At the Union Station, you can catch a ride on the Amtrak or catch Denver's bus or rail. I thought the system was very nice and orderly. read more

Union Station is beautiful inside. We took the light rail from Denver airport to Union Station for only $10 per person. That's an amazing price since Denver airport is so far from downtown. It's easily a 5/5 for convenience to get to and from the airport. You simply just purchase a ticket at one of their machines. The ride to the airport is about 30 minutes. There's a variety of restaurants and stores in here. I saw a wine bar, ice cream shop, hotel, book store, coffee shop. It has it all. It can get crowded but I always found a seat while waiting for my tour to pick me up at the front entrance. There are plenty of restaurants all around the area also. read more

It was an unexpected way to start our day for our tour group to meet here! This was one highlight of our Denver trip! It almost was a miniature quieter image of Grand Central Station. With actual pews for waiting and stores, bar, snack and coffee places to grab. Felt more secure with the guards in it. The power plugs that are in plain sight were all locked tho but we were able to find one with the help of the information lady. Must stop! read more
I've always enjoyed coming to the station and on this day it was not crowded and perfect to rest the legs after 5 days of snowboarding before taking the train to the airport. The music was at a perfect level and we rested before touring the area on a gorgeous spring day. read more
For rail travelers, Denver Union's main issue is that it's more a series of outdoor tracks and not so much of a station. It's ok, it gets the job done but there is no real waiting area for the trains, no Amtrak lounge, no signage boards, and no easy way to know where you're going. Downtown is very close, which is nice, but a station building would be nice. read more
Union Station is in the heart of downtown Denver, the renovated 1914 Beaux-Arts train station is home to chef-owned restaurants & bars, boutiques and the Crawford Hotel. The station fully reopened in July after a month's long renovation, unveiling new furniture & murals, as well as the updated Cooper Lounge, a second-floor cocktail bar with city views on one side and the station's Great Hall on the other, making it an ideal people-watching perch. There are many charming shops & restaurants in this historic station. Ultreia is a modern-classic restaurant with a high-ceilinged room that resembles an art gallery, with wallpaper in the style of a landscape painting that depicts cows and Denver. read more

We were told we had to stop by Denver Union Station on our visit to Denver as it had nice architecture and lively meeting places. So naturally, we came at night when most of the businesses were closed. But walking around, there were some nice restaurants, shops, and a bar. If I was traveling by train, this would be a wonderful greeting upon arrival. Great central location in Denver. Plenty of restaurants, bars, and hotels nearby. Looked surprisingly impressive at night when we walked up. Guess this is what they meant by admiring the architecture? Looked a lot grander than one would expect from a train station. read more
A surprisingly nice train station that also seems to serve as a hotel and mall. The architecture is old school yet with a modern twist, really highlighting the historic importance of the landmark while still catering to the needs of modern travelers that might be facing a flight delay or be waiting for their ride. The train to the airport is $10, runs on 15 minute cycles during the day, and takes just about 40-45 minutes. It's the first track exiting the station (I didn't see any signs and had to ask someone). I bought my ticket at the kiosk next to the track. While I was on the train, I took a nap and no one checked my ticket, so I'm not sure if there's usually a conductor that does that. read more
I was visiting Denver and used public transportation the whole time we were here. I took the train from the airport to Union station. The RTD app was easy to navigate. You can find it with a qr code at the airport or use the terminals to buy a ticket. It's $10 for a ticket. The train was clean, and the ticket checker was kind (even when people hadn't purchased their tickets before boarding). Union station is gorgeous with lots of shops, dining, and coffee. Right outside is a stop for the free mall bus that goes around downtown. read more

Aloha to da MILE HIGH CITY! This efficient light rail makes Metro magic happen for the heart of Denver and the outlying suburbs. It also makes going to the world class DIA a breeze on the A-Line! A HUGE Shout out for the Colorado taxpayers & federal dollars that made this commuter rail possible! As a disabled Veteran, I also appreciate the complimentary ride! Security on and off the train is not only visible, but also friendly and professional. Access for those with disabilities is easy and the modified bike racks are very convenient to the active lifestyle of those locals utilizing Pedal Power or Electric bikes as part of their commute. The ride is smooth & scenic, passing the hustle & bustle of the surrounding overloaded freeways during rush hour. I find a train ride very relaxing and the Union Station has a nice variety of coffee shops & is in walking distance of many local shops, restaurants and Whole Foods Market. Definitely the best way to get around town without the hassle of traffic. There's always an occasional issue that pops up due to unforeseen issues but the RTD has a tested contingency plan that keeps the line a rolling. Continuous AI verbal updates on stops and direction of travel are broadcast at each stop. Automated kiosks make buying tickets easy a click of your iPhone. Those traveling in and out of Colorado by air can ease the burden of long pickup & drop off lines that occur during peak airline arrivals. The huge escalator at the Hilton Hotel entrance leading to the train tracks below helps with your airport arrival and departure to Union Station. Great efficient commute on RTD! read more

First time taking Amtrak. I am going to Glenwood Springs to have a 2 day vacation soaking in the Glenwood Hot Springs. I bought my round-trip thru the Amtrak app for $158 in coach. You walk past the ticket office towards Snooze to the Bag Check window next to the Bag pickup door. No Bag fee. I got a baggage tag. I went out to track 4. The conductor scanned the QR code on the app. I entered the last car. My seat was on the upper deck on the left side. Nice seat that reclines and has an adjustable foot rest + a tray table. This train had 2 diesel engines, a baggage car, 3 sleeper cars, the dining car on the upper deck, the observation car up top and a small Cafe on the lower level and 2 lounge cars. The lounge cars had restrooms on the lower level. Stairs are a bit tight, no elevators. The observation car is first come first serve. When the staff announces that the dining car is open, you wait near the entrance to be seated. No self seating and no private seats. I shared a table with two other people. I had a good breakfast of French toast with blueberries and whipped cream with crispy bacon. It was freshly prepared and good. Breakfast is $20 & lunch is $25 for passengers in coach seats. They accept or card. If you bought a sleeper room, the dining is included. Only dinner requires reservations. Going into the foothills, the best view is on the left side and going thru Glenwood Canyon on the right side. They made a 10 minute stop at Fraser-Winter Park with shuttle service to Winter Park ski area. I went outside briefly. There is one other stop in Granby for ticketed passengers only. We arrived 10 minutes early. read more

When Denver airport constructed their own train station, we started taking the train to Denver Union Station in the downtown area rather than renting a car or taking a rideshare. The train is one of the most convenient and cheapest transportation options for us anytime we visit Denver. This train starts at the airport and ends at the Union Station, with numerous stops in between. Anywhere beyond that you will have to switch trains. The Denver Union Station has lots of good stuff inside and outside surrounding it, including a bar and a bookstore. What's very convenient for us here is that it's only steps away from one of the 16th Street Mall bus stops, where we can easily hop on and head straight to our hotel. Our last visit, we ended up taking the train to the Union Station from the airport, but took a rideshare to the airport when our vacation was over, just to save time due to ongoing 16th Street Mall construction. If I end up traveling to downtown Denver again, by myself or with someone else, Denver Union Station will definitely be my destination to start my trip here. read more
