They just flat out do not care to do their job. I moved into a rental and the neighbors had piled up their trash on the side of the house. I arrived to the house with a warning from the city threatening to ticket me if the trash wasn't cleaned up. I called and reported that it wasn't mine and requested the trash and bins (about 8 of them) be removed. After weeks of them closing the case without ever showing up, I started calling daily. The inspector became irritated and called me drunk on his personal cell phone telling me to leave him alone. I called until I was able to get in touch with his supervisor, Erica, who told me he had a history of drinking problems and that he was put on leave. They removed the trash cans without ever speaking to the neighbors. The neighbors came pounding on my door because 311 told them I had requested their cans be removed (not because they were illegally left on the side of my house for months.) Not wanting to be difficult, I spent the next few months moving their cans slightly to the side of my house and picked up the trash and boxes they dumped on the floor around them. About 2 months ago I had enough. I spoke to the neighbors who told me they had lived here for x amount of years and that they will continue to dump their trash there. I called again and reported that the same neighbors were still illegally dumping trash on the side of my house. After about 4 weeks with no news, I got a notice from an inspector that the case was closed and that no action had been taken. Their trash was still sitting outside of my house as I opened this email. I sent pictures of their trash from throughout the weeks, they came and removed 2 cans and closed the case again without giving them any warning. They continued leaving their trash and bins on the side of my house. I called waste management again and asked that they give them a warning at the very least. They told me they won't do anything because this was considered a neighborly dispute. The only dispute is that they are illegally dumping trash on the side of my house- and their department is in charge of removing it and preventing it from happening. I had to get in touch with my city council member who finally sent someone to tell them to stop dumping their trash on the side of my house. It's been 2 weeks and they have not dumped their trash there since. After months of being swept under the rug and jumping through hoops I shouldn't have had to, I finally have a clean area outside of my home. read more

I've opened half a dozen tickets with 311.org trying to get help from the city on two projects. One request is 10mo old, the other 6mo. They approved our requests and then disappeared. With each new ticket they say - we've forwarded your concern and then close out my request. I have no idea how to move forward from here. What do you do when the City of Denver requires you to use their services, even though they never rise to the occasion? There's not even a supervisor to speak with about this sort of thing. It's so frustrating! --- Another month has gone by... If anyone is curious to know why the public fights taxes and looks down on City Gov't - programs like these are the reason. Inept, unprofessional and never willing to help when you need them. These guys are terrible. They must have a dozen tickets from me and several emails to boot. I had called and got someone on the car registration line. I asked if I could renew my registration. She had told me to call a different number, 720-865-4600, which is just another number for 311... I called again and got back into the "Press 9 for all other questions" car registration queue. Waited forever for a man to pick up. He automatically says, "Hello? Hello? I can't hear you. Hello? Hello? I'm going to have to end this call." He says all that with 0 breathing room in between each word. I'm on the other end panicking hoping he doesn't hang up saying "Hello?? Hello???? Hello? Can you here me?!?!" while him saying his Hellos. I know he could hear me, but it seemed like he just wanted to hang up, go into wrap up period for his ticket, then pick up the next call to just hang up. Like his way to reduce the queue and/or he completely hates his job and will be quitting soon. He might not even lose his job because 311 is desperate for people or he's been there for awhile so he won't get in trouble. read more

Well, Denver 3-1-1, what can I say. If you were 9-1-1 and this was an emergency, you would get an epic fail and I would beat you with a wet noodle. The reason you get 2 stars is because: a) Yesterday: The gal answering the 3-1-1 line made my car financing company sound like the dummies for giving me bogus information about my (missing: apparently mailed a year ago but never made it to my hot little hands) car title. After spending way too much time on the phone with GMAC, that made me happy. b) Today: The gal at the local DMV was rightly apologetic for 3-1-1 giving me the wrong info, and that I had wasted my time standing in line. c) Today: I discovered that 3 p.m. on a Tuesday is a great time to get to the Welton DMV location. There were only 25 people in line in front of me, vs the usual 300. Word to the wise: If your car title is missing, you'll need an official document from your financing company that your car has in fact been paid off in order for them to issue the dupe title. I called 311 and requested a replacement for my missing Recycle cart on Tuesday Oct. 12, 2021. The operator, Christa informed me that it could take up to 6 weeks to receive the replacement. I was disappointed with the projected wait time but accepted the honest reply. Christa was knowledgeable and honest in answering all my questions. She emailed me a copy of the following request. 311 is a complete joke. The three or four times I've called the wait time is forever and they can never figure out who they're supposed to connect me to. and don't even get me started with the people who answer the phone. They are minimum-wage workers who could give two shits about their job or the people they serve. Today there is a mattress in the middle of the road so I begrudgingly called them and the lady insisted that I tell her an exact address. I told her exactly where the mattress was located but that I did not know an address. She said "Sir you need to tell me an address or there's nothing I can do for you". I reiterated that I don't know the address but that the mattress was obstructing traffic. I told her again the exact location and she interrupted and said "Address please". I told her yet again, that I do not know the address. I asked her who I should call if it's not 311. She hung up on me. Denver either needs to get rid of the system entirely, or put some budget behind it to make it a good service. I just hope 911 does a better job than 311. read more

Just awful! Anytime I have called 311 there are long wait times and I have to go through several steps to actually talk to a person in a city/county office that I am trying to reach. It literally takes me 3 times as long to actually get an answer than if I could have called the office I was trying to reach directly. This is the stupidest waste of taxpayer dollars ever. The worst thing was when I tried to report 3 dogs locked in a hot van in the middle of July on a blistering hot 100 degree day in a parking lot, and I waited on hold for almost 7 minutes only to be hung up on. I tried to call 911 and they referred me back to 311, where I was once again on hold. The van only had the front windows partially cracked and the dogs were panting wildly and crying. It's a damn shame the city doesn't take animal welfare more seriously. read more

Good luck getting a live person at DMV. Tried to renew handi placard online but it did not like numbers I provided. I need to know if I need a doctor's note to renew, you can't look up your own account to see if you need a doc's note because no matter what numbers you add, it throws you out after a while. I don't have a working printer so need a form mailed to me, good luck getting that online, NO WHERE is there an option to get a form mailed. Now, you have to go thru 311 or a central number which goes thru 311....horrible way to waste two hours on the phone only to be told you picked the wrong option, you waited for nothing....nothing matched my need for phone button options. It is so frustrating! Why can't I get help? I can't drive down to the DMV location just to wait in line there and be told I need something else that I would have know I needed had SOMEONE talked to me on the phone. I am handicapped and it is very hard for me to get down there and walk the parking lot. I wasted a lot of time for no help. read more

I have been so impressed with the response from 311 over the years. lf you don't have an emergency, I recommend e-mailing. I've reported things like a missed recycling pick-up, broken trash lid, etc. In those cases, the problem is usually fixed that day or the next day. read more

311 Denver is the worst excuse for a help line. I've tried several times over the past year to report a problem..... Nothing . I get a lot of answers to the problem, "it's not our problem". A great way to answer a concerned citizens or potential dangerous problems. read more

Denver 311 is the most irritating thing that has ever happened to Denver. Trying to get in touch with public trustee, clerk and recorder etc, the only number they will give you is to call 311. When you do you have to wait on hold about ten to fifteen minutes for them to connect you to the department you are trying to get in touch with. Are you tired of your car slamming up and down on poorly maintained roads, the neighbor's barking dog, sick of searching through hundreds of phone numbers just to contact the city? Well, according to former Denver Mayor Hickenlooper Denver's 311 system was supposed to fix all of that and provide the citizens of Denver with exemplary service. Five years later, I would say the 311 system in Denver is nothing special (sometimes it gets the job done, sometimes it doesn't). Let's start with the good things about Denver 311: - The online system is pretty easy to use. You can file a vast array of reports from resurfacing requests to abandoned vehicles and everything in-between. -The online system lets you add pictures, good for helping incompetent city employees understand exactly what you're talking about. -The 311 call center generally has short waits, outside of the busy mid-morning hours and the staff is generally polite and helpful. -The 311 system makes it easy to contact the city without looking up hundreds of phone numbers or emailing different departments of the city trying to figure out which one will ever help you. -Denver 311 is good at helping get annoying potholes fixed. I will give the city credit they did re-surface a large patch of S. Tamarac Dr. when the I reported that a large patch of the road was severely damaged. -The 311 staff are helpful and will direct you to the correct agency, if the problem isn't within the "City and County" of Denver. What sucks about 311: -What used to be a simple phone call to city clerk, regarding tax questions, a business license, or questions regarding vehicle registration, now have to be re-routed through 311. There's no way to directly call any department now, you have to use 311. -The hold times in the morning are getting ridiculous. You shouldn't have to wait 20 minutes and go through multiple prompts just to get through. -When there's a row of potholes and you report that there are a row of potholes, I don't really understand why the city only fixes one of the potholes and says that you have to place another "street paving or repair" request to get the other potholes fixed? This happened even though I sent the city a picture of the row of potholes I wanted to be fixed. -It's really annoying to see that when you report a malfunctioning traffic signal on Havana (a very busy street in SE Denver) and tell the 311 rep. that traffic flow is poor and ask if a police officer or other city official could help direct traffic and are told "of course, we'll contact the police dept. and an officer should be there within 15-30 minutes." Yet, three hours later the traffic light is still flashing red and now the intersection has been blocked because there is a 3 car accident (guess who didn't show up to direct traffic). In addition, it took the city a year to replace a badly worn out street sign (you couldn't even see the letters!). Yep, Denver 311 doesn't always provide "exemplary service" like Hickenlooper and now Mayor Hancock want you to believe. -The online system's status updates are useless (it will only tell you if your case is "open," "closed (resolved)," or "working." No other details are provided. If you contact the 311 center asking for more information on your case they just say that the case has been routed to the appropriate agency. Would it kill them to have the city official who's handling your case to write a few sentence description of what the city is doing? read more

Denver 311 for animals and reporting street racing is a crock of bull. Both animal control and non emergency have been contacted about multiple homes and cars being raced down residential streets, addresses and license plates have been given and NOTHING has been done. Guess we'll wait for someone to die to care??? Loose dogs of dangerous breeds have also been reported, dogs at houses are STILL there and OFF leash roaming our neighborhoods again now, 2 days straight. Not even to mention all summer. read more

I have always thought that 311 was a unique, as well as, ingenious idea. I really appreciate Governor Hickenlooper - then mayor - who created this system here in Denver. I have never lived any where other than Denver where a system like this exists. The people that answer the phones do a good job. They are amazingly polite 90% of the time. A great accomplishment for someone I imagine sitting some where answering phone calls all day. Where they are especially excellent is getting pot hole repairs done. Every single time I have called - and that is a lot - they have it repaired in a timely manner. I know they don't do the repairs but they communicate my info to the street maintenance dept. who does the repair. Well, kudos to them both. Even when pot hole season is at it's worst they do a fast job. The other aspect of 311 that I like is if I have questions about city services, resources, ordinances, property taxes, etc. and I do not know who to call to get my question answered I will call 311. I am amazed how frequently they have my answer. When they do not have the answer they always refer me to someone who does. I imagine this phone line has to create a system of substantial efficiency that did not exist prior to its implementation. I would also think it is very beneficial to the staff who work at these various city offices because 311 staff field their phone calls for them. I am sure this allows them to accomplish more because their attention is not being diverted by phone calls. I would also imagine that this decreases the number of employees at each city office who have to be paid to answer phone calls. If it saves the city money I am all for that. read more
