The entrance is next to Ding Tea and is on the 4th level. I visited at 9am when they open for a social security card replacement and I was in and out within an hour. The lines are kinda long but that's normal because a lot of people came at once. There was quite a line when I arrived but it moved pretty quickly. The security will call you up, check your bags and assign you a ticket number for when it's your turn. The security are really nice, and I noticed how aware they are of their surrounding. like when a person seems unsure what the procedure is or maybe they can't the restroom, both the security would notice and point them in the right direction. Thought that to be pretty cool, and they're nice about it too. I got window 16, and the man who helped was kind and patient. It was quick and easy process in replacing my social security card and he made sure that I checked all the information was right before continuing and reminded me I need to get my passport renewed since it will be expiring soon. Your trip to the social security office will be quick as long as you check online first to see what documents and finished paperwork is needed for your appointment. read more

Online: Basically, SSA MySocialSecurity account is useless for getting information beyond anything basic. I tried to get a copy of my 2024 1099 tax form, because mine hasn't come yet, and it's not available on my account page. So, I had to call the national 800 number. National 800 number: Fluxuates between horrible and barely useable. The wait times are atrociously long. They don't tell you estimated wait times. They don't give you an option to be called back instead of waiting on the phone. They don't give you an option of making a phone meeting. Local Office: Going into the Kent, WA., office is a matter of waiting in line to get into the building before it opens, then waiting in line to get into the office once in the building. Then waiting for your number to be called. Out of the approximate 6 times I had to visit the office, I only interacted with one person I felt really knew what they were doing. She was amazing and got everything straightened out. Why the other people were not that knowledgeable or helpful, I have no idea. read more

I don't know where to start... the fax number given on the SSA web site doesn't answer, the national number made me wait 3 hrs. and 45 minutes after it said it was a 2 hour wait, the local office number said 15 minute wait but it was a 17 minute wait before it hung up on me or when I did get hold of a "professional" on the national number the answers varied from person to person. All in all this phone service is horrible at best. If I could get a job where I could take my best guess at answers asked by people in need, first I'd feel bad for not actually doing my job and feel sorry that whoever called got bad information that could cost them their life, ,benefits or increased medical costs. read more

It is so very very hard to get a question answered from my local ( Burien) location. When I arrived 30 minutes before the doors opened, the line was 40 people long. I asked the person in front of the line what time she got there and she said, "6:30am". If you have to visit that location their calendars are not up to date for the main office to schedule an appointment , they don't answer their phones and they ask you to call back in 7-10 days . If we have not heard from the local office, within that time frame they ask you to contact the main office again. I ended up doing this twice. Which means I waited 20 days before I finallyI received an appointment in the mail and the date was 30 days out. They ask you to contact them ASAP in the case of a death, but you can't get through to them. I had 2 deaths this year and have had to go through this process twice. The same process happened, each time, so this is a pretty consistent inefficient process. read more

My husband and I went to the office at 8:30 this morning and the line was probably already 45 people a full half hour before opening. We decided not to stay and went home and called in, the wait time was minimal and we got ahold of a young gentleman named Cody. He was very knowledgeable, patient and understanding and he took the time to listen to us. After roughly a half an hour our issue was resolved. Our country would be in better shape if more civil servants were like this young man. Kudos to Cody at the Kent office. read more

Helpful tip: This office is in the same complex as Green River Community College, across the street from the movie theatre. Friendly and helpful security guards at the door as well as staff at the counter. Long wait but that is expected obviously as I didn't have an appointment. Don't be like me and get an appointment so you don't have to wait. Monitors are placed along the wall to make it clear when your number is up to go to the counter in addition to being called over the loud speaker. read more

I got married and went to change my name on my SSN. I waited two hours for the security guard to tell me I could have just dropped all my documents in the drop box, then went to the DOL for a new ID. I got my new ID in the mail with my married last name but a letter in the mail that said there was an ERROR with my SSN so I'm not sure if my name actually changed or not.. what a waste of my time. read more

The worst experience by far. Didn't need anything but to ask question about the population of people I serve and assist in maintaining housing. Which means they need proof of their income. I was trying to eliminate a barrier for over 1000 people who receive SS benefits. Long story short I got out of line to see what signage inside stated and maybe I could grab some pamphlet information. Not only was I stopped by the security he grabbed me and pushes me. Then he explains because I was on my phone. If no one will explain the process and you can't walk in the door to ask question or look at signage how would I know? Nevertheless he doesn't have the right to put his hands on me. Taking his job way too serious. Communication is key in a public service position. Its is never ok to touch someone's body because they are attempting to gather information. I will never go back and if anyone knows the name of the security company that staffs those guards would be most helpful. ZERO STARS!!! read more

I waited in a line in the hallway and thought oh call walk ins are so easy here. Long behold I turn the corner and see two security guys checking bags and monitoring the line. Darn it! I ended up waiting an hour until my number was called. I was helped by Brandon, I think at number window 13. Upon reaching the window I told him what I needed and he asked and entered the information he needed. He asked me some legal questions at the end and that was it! He had great customer service and made some conversation during the process. I also saw him putting about 6 or 7 clipboards back on the shelf when it says to keep the clipboards there. The place that staff is paid to move extremely slow. The numbering system works, but it would be nice to know how many people are operating the windows to estimate your wait time. With all the internet and modern devices it shouldn't take 2-3 hours to speak to someone. The guy we got was blend but was able to help us after we had to leave and return. My cards haven't arrived and it's been a month . They keep saying they processed my card July 6 , wich is impossible cause the receipt they gave me says July 7. The lady hung up on me and told me I was wrong . Just cause she couldn't find out the issue . I had the worst experience of my life at the Kent County location. Not only was their ticketing machine not working with a line of over 100 people when the building first opened but they made no attempt to keep it orderly. So everytime they told the whole line to move after falsely telling us the machine was fixed I was cut in front of by about 30 people. Then it happened again and after that I walked out because I have never felt so disrespected and irate. Add to that I called the office to make an appointment and was told 'we don't make appointments for that.' Ok, I walked into the building to file a name change after marriage in Jan of 2023. I had all my paperwork. The security officer and person helping me were nice. I waited a max of about 10 min before getting pulled back to the window. I submitted my paperwork but was told by the lady helping me at the window the social security office is not currently processing the applications because the certified copy I received from King County Records office is not valid or "good enough" because there have been some fraud or something like that with the records office. It has been close to 2 months after I submitted the paperwork with social security office and have not heard anything and no one can give me an update. I wish there was someone I can reach out to figure out what in the world is going on. So the office and people who work there is great but there is something going on within the department that is not disclosed to the public... Quite impressed with my visit with the social security administration office here. Any sane person dislike going to such facilities such as this but this particular one was near painless. They open at 9, I arrived roughly around 830 and there were people/line outside the door. As I waited and stood in a somewhat we call a line, more people arrived. A women came around 845? And opened the door which allowed us into the building/warmth. Bless her soul!! We awaited our turn, caught the elevator to the 4th floor. Awaited for doors to open, more people came and waited in the back of the line, was informed by the officer of the rules and regulations regarding contrabands, weapons, drugs etc. Slowly we moved in and here comes the four star worthy. A very polite man greets us when it's our turn to enter the room, he is there to basically help us determine what type of service we need for our visit etc. again, very polite and NICE. As we all know/ experience, for the most part workers in such facilities as social security offices/DMV and such tend to have unfriendly workers.. Nonetheless, he was nice and friendly, you move on, get checked by the officer -emptying out pockets, looking into you bags, checking jacket pockets and so on. There's a screen that tells you what number is being served currently and for that they lose a star because its too bad the screen doesn't inform you which window is serving which awaiting citizen. You have to pay attention and listen for them to call/reannounce. So pay attention!! The women who assist me with the name change was very polite, nice and professional. I was in and out within 15 minutes utmost once I stepped foot into the room. She took out my marriage certificate out of the sleeve protector and actually placed it back into the protector (many can care less and just hand it back). Even as we wrapped up my business she congratulated me of my marriage/name change. I thought that was sweet. She had a smile on her face and looked happy to be there. Maybe it was still early in the morning and they aren't burnt out yet? It doesn't matter, I'm definitely coming back here if I need anything else. read more

This was my first time going to this Social Security office and I'm glad I chose to go to this one over the Burien office as I read reviews. Unfortunately, I didn't print out the paperwork from online so I could be prepared to get my name changed on my social security card. But the wait was pretty long, so that took up some of the wait time. My husband and I brought our 2 month son with us. About half an hour in, our son woke up and we left his diaper bag in the car. My husband asked if he could just go out to the car to get the diaper bag and come back in. But instead, they told him to bring me up to the counter to get helped so we could get out of there to take care of our spoiled diaper son. What would've been probably a 2 hour wait ended up being only a 30 minute wait. Thank you for accommodating to this mother of a newborn! read more

This place was okay for what it needs to be. It a public office that you wait to get legal stuff taken care of. Its clean, and they have monitors that you can watch which makes the wait go by faster I guess. I went on a Friday, which wasn't my best idea, but it was an hour wait to get my name changed. I started to fall in line outside the building around 8am. They opened at exactly 9am and made sure the line arrangement outside the bulding was the same inside their building. Take note: i have a baby stroller with me. The guard who was giving out instructions was very polite and cheerful. I can tell he loves his job. We were assisted as it was time to "check in" the social security office. My number was called in 15 mins and the girl behind the window helped me with my application for a new social. She said I'd get it at most 2 weeks from that day. At 9:30am, I was walking to my bus stop already. In exactly 2 weeks, I got my new social! read more

This office was VERY quick. I had a list of four things I needed and they managed to finsh all four within minutes and there were ALOT of people there. Now as far as the number you call for help, I thought it was the local number, but found out it was in another state. Unfortunately, their recording said I would have a 35 minute wait, after 50 I got the great idea to look on the web site to see how late they were open and found out they were closed when I called. My wife and I have been to this office before. The lady who helped us then was very nice but did not seem to be well informed. We went there the other day to apply for joint retirement benefits. A young lady Ms. Shea and a trainee helped us. We were called early. Ms. Sh. That was window 13 on March 5 was very professional, courteous and answered all of our questions with no hesitation. (The questions didn't pertain to me and when answered my account was locked. I was afraid someone else was using my SSN). If it wasn't for the friendly security guards and the smooth system, I'd give this place 0 stars. When my number was finally called I got a gal by the name of Caroline Jones at window 12 and she was extremely rude and disrespectful. After answering all her questions politely, I started to use my phone and she told me that the sign said I could not use my phone, however I'd previously read the sign prior to using my phone and it says you cannot take pictures, but nothing about not being able to use your phone. After telling her that she got very defensive and honestly she couldn't even take care of my issue, which was simply to replace my social security card. On the way out they have a place where you could leave our comments and I most definitely left mines. I've been here many times and unfortunately this has been the only time I've had a bad experience, other than that it's been great! read more
