After getting my number I was called up to get processed after about one minute. It took about 4 minutes to get processed, my photo taken, and issued a temporary driver license. But we learned that they release new day-of appointment times each morning so we were able to get an appt for later in the afternoon. I came to get a new license after moving to WA from out of state. My appt was at 1:15, I checked in around 1:05, and I believe I left by around 1:30 pm. They didn't actually look at any of the documents I brought with proof of my new address in WA. I wasn't able to transfer my Cali "RealID" to a WA "enhanced ID" unfortunately; so if you need that, make sure you bring a passport or birth certificate (NOT social security card). ALSO BRING CASH OR CHECK if you want to save yourself fees associated with using card (even debit card.) It was clean and quiet inside with ample seating.

Every day at 8:20 AM the Redmond location releases same day appointments, I was lucky enough to get one of those. FYI every Friday at 4 PM they release appointments for the following week. Otherwise you're looking at booking out a month in advance. I was able to register and secure an appointment very quickly online -- although I will say that the website did not have EDL as one of its first options, which I think it should give the importance of that license now. I had to use the search bar to find it and only then did it pull up. It was confusing trying to make an appointment for a renewal but it wasn't just a renewal I was looking for. What was very helpful was the updating texts that reminded me of the appointment time and gave me the option to check in online. The helpful staff at the registration information desk confirmed my check-in. The waiting area was spacious with many chairs, and there were 19 kiosks which meant very speedy processing. I didn't wait more than five minutes however I had to step out of the waiting area for a moment and it was during that time that my number was called. The saving grace was the smart technology was that sent me a text informing me that my number had been called. Nathan Diamond assisted me. I had my previous drivers license which was then canceled out, my W-2 has proof of address and my photo was taken. I was given a temporary license that would function for 45 days but I could expect my license to arrive in the next 30 days. Organ donation was confirmed and I was given the option of putting my blood type if I had written proof of it, which I wish I had known in advance. I did not however have such a document with me so I was not able to put it on my card but I was told I could update anytime. I chose the eight year option which was about $144 out the door after all fees, etc. The five minutes or so with Mr. Diamond was really educational. I think I was out in 15 minutes total. The parking lot out front was free parking so no stress about parking. The staff was helpful so asked for their names. The two people at registration were informative and helpful as well.

The board showed a long wait, even for appointment times, but it turned out not to actually take that long and I was in only a couple of minutes after my appointment time. I strode confidently up to the numbered counter when my name was called, and was greeted with a smile by a friendly person at the counter. I told her I was there for my 'enhanced license'. I handed her my passport and my old license. She says "... and proof of address?" so I hand her my registration. She takes a look at it and says "... and where's your address on this?" My face turned pale. I had habitually removed the address portion because I had vehicle prowls before and didn't want someone who prowled my vehicle in public to go to my house. I said, "I'm so sorry... I can come b..." but before I could finish that thought, she goes "Well, let's see if we can find it online." She spent the next 20 minutes hunting public records. We went back and forth with friendly banter, she talked to her coworker, and eventually found some esoteric document related to my home, and printed it out, and said something like "welp, it'll either work, or it won't." She was nice to me the whole time. It was completely my fault. She could have told me to pound sand and come back better prepared. She did not. She gave me some light ribbing but I never once felt unwelcome, and in truth I felt like I had just accidentally picked up a winning lottery ticket. My winnings? Faith in humanity, restored. I never found out her name. But she did tell me her birthday was close to mine. In the spirit of the day, I'd like to think her name was Julie. Happy Birthday, Julie. Or whoever you are.

Apparently this place was open the entire time which was impressive. I went in on a Friday morning and was greeted right away. They were really helpful & able to assist me quickly at the time of my scheduled appointment; I unfortunately wasn't able to catch the name of the lady who helped me yet I was able to walk away with what I needed in about 20 minutes.

They really don't know what they are doing here. So, I'm going to list some things why the DMV/DOL really SUX here: 1. It's called the DOL and not the DMV 2. Registration is half of that of California. 3. Multiple offices in any given town. 4. Wait time is less than 10 minutes. 5. Some offices are open late. 6. Many offices are open on the weekends. 7. Drive thru service is available. 8. Absolutely no forms to fill out. 9. Office people are nice and friendly. 10. If you do not have your renewal notice or registration with you they can look your vehicle up by driver's license. 11. Office staff actually are knowledgeable. 12. Time at the business window is less than 5 minutes. 13. On a good day you can be in and out with in 10 minutes or less. 14. No lines. 15. Absolutely no penalty or fees if your registration renewal is a few days or several years late. As you can see the DMV/DOL is absolutely HORRIBLE here in Washington State. They need to be a proper DMV/DOL where it's fame make it into TV and movies.

I had an appointment to update my EDL as I realized it expired next year on my birthday (in early April, when I'll be out of the country). I looked online and they had multiple same-day appointments or ones roughly 3 weeks out, so I decided to do a same-day appointment about an hour and half later. I grabbed all my documents (I ended up not needed them since I already had my EDL and was just renewing but it was unclear based on the DOL website), then headed to Kent. My appt was at 10:45 but I showed up at 10:37. I checked in via text, then walked in. The front desk worker confirmed that it was indeed me and I did indeed check in online, then directed me to the waiting area. My number was called roughly 90 seconds later, and then I was able to get my eyes checked, take my picture, and confirm my information within the next couple minutes. I was back out at my car to leave at 10:42, before the time of my actual appointment. Huge shout out to the main representative I worked with, Ashley, who was kind, efficient, and fun in an environment that is typically perceived as none of those things. She also had the cutest pink keyboard and was a great representation of the WA DOL.

At that time, they were at #360. The numbers were being called randomly at times for Walk-Ins and Appointments, so had to keep an eye on the monitor for the number and ding sound. The PA system or volume was so low you could hardly hear anything. Was sitting in the waiting area for over an hour. Got called up at 10:45 AM. Shared my required documents (Mail with Name and Home Address on it, a valid U.S. Passport) and current Driver's License. The lady who assisted me was very friendly and helpful. She was knowledgeable and provided adequate details and information about what the Real ID is included with - Radio Frequency Identification) technology, a unique identifier to confirm the authenticity of the ID. After verifying my information on the screen, she took a photo of me and requested the payment. It was only $21.00 since my current driver's license doesn't expire until 2027, so have to wait until 2026 to renew it for an additional 8-year one since it has to be within a year or less until your Driver's License expires to be able to get the extended one. Thanked the nice lady and exited the DMV. It was a good experience, overall... The waiting period was as expected, so be aware of that when you visit... Also, there aren't enough parking spaces close by during peak times, so you might have to park in the back or across the street.
