    They are the only place we get our yearly car tabs. Very helpful in person and so fast if you order on-line. Highly recommend them.

    It's been a while since I have had to renew my driver's license and as that amount of time has…read morepassed since my last renewal quite a few licensing offices have closed around Tacoma which makes the remaining ones considerably more challenging to navigate. What I mean by this is in reference to this specific location is that parking can be quite a challenge to this small parking lot for the visitor section and a line of people waiting is accumulates extremely fast and as a result the longer the line grows the slower it's going to be. So making an appointment is the way to go here. Definitely plan a considerable amount of time ahead to get to this location in case you make a wrong turn as well as waiting to find a parking place...because you are bound to have to sit in your car until a space opens up...but the best way to avoid all that in addition to the appointment is take the first time slots that are available when you make an appointment online. Depending on the day it's like 9 a.m. or 10 a.m. If you go with the earlier option that's the best because there are already a bunch of people sitting in the lobby ready to start the line. So key things here....1) make an appointment...2) take the earliest time slot (9 a.m. if you can) which will give you a greater likelihood of meeting your appointment and getting your car parked with relative ease. For those who made an appointment the line is much smaller upon opening and if you check in you will get a confirmation number in which it will be called upon. Once you go up to a representative for me at least the process itself was fast. They confirm your residential address, make sure height and weight are accurate, get your picture taken and if need be you take an eye exam...typical stuff as usual with the renewal process there. You get the choice if you want to renew your license for six or eight years. I went with the eight year option as our lives are busy enough and the longer we can have a license and reduce the frequency of the renewal licensing process the better. Once all the usual information and process was done...which was very smooth and efficient it took only about seven minutes for the renewal itself if you don't count the time of waiting for the doors to open to the department (it took an hour from start to finish from leaving home and getting back to home). Another aside at this office is if you are in for a wait and need the restroom you will need a code. Maybe you can get in if someone else enters the code but if not you will need to probably get it from the receptionist.

    I'm Washington State born and raised on the west side, but been all over this very large state…read more I've had a LOT of DOL experiences all over this state and I am proud (and a little surprised) to say that in my current hometown of Lakewood, WA, I think we have one of the best in the state! Check in is easy and pleasant. The person greeting you (host?) is knowledgeable about the processes, quick to answer questions, and seems to have the needed info available without any issues. While I have walked in when they're busy, they are excellent at warning you that if you don't have time to wait, you may want to swing by on a less busy day. I was VERY grateful for this info the last time I was in, adding my motorcycle endorsement to my license. It wasn't an urgent matter and their computers had been down off and on all morning, causing a bit slow-down. This isn't something they can control, but they took responsibility by warning folks that the wait times on the screen weren't terribly accurate and that the system can go down again and cause a freeze at any time. I chose to come back another day! I did come back, and this last Friday morning, I was in and out in less than 25 minutes!! Big thanks to the staff here that seems really great at their jobs, well-trained, and eager to help. None of the dismissive attitude that seems to be the stereotypical behavior of this type of worker.

They gave me the wrong temporary ID for my enhanced license!! I was in a hurry because the lady was rushing me out of there, plus I had a dentist appointment and she gave me this elderly man's identification! Luckily I'm an honest person and was able to reach out to him & his wife and make them aware of this!!! The funny thing is, she paid more than I did for the exact same thing!!~ 8 years for an enhanced driver's license! I now think it's a big ass scam by the state of Washington!~ This state sucks! Probably because it's a democrat state and they just want to tax us up the ass- but this is insane! I drive for a living and I just noticed this a day & a half later when I pulled out my temporary for work. They also now owe me for a days work since I have to go back up to the office and request the proper one! They could have put my identity at risk also? I mean after all, look what they did to this man? I feel like maybe I should call an attorney!! I'm really freaking out right now and I can't reach them at all on the phone! They must be screwing up really badly with a lot of people!!! Should I call the police or an attorney? Help!? What would you do? Why did mine cost $138.00 for 8 years. I had an appointment to update my EDL as I realized it expired next year on my birthday (in early April, when I'll be out of the country). I looked online and they had multiple same-day appointments or ones roughly 3 weeks out, so I decided to do a same-day appointment about an hour and half later. I grabbed all my documents (I ended up not needed them since I already had my EDL and was just renewing but it was unclear based on the DOL website), then headed to Kent. My appt was at 10:45 but I showed up at 10:37. I checked in via text, then walked in. The front desk worker confirmed that it was indeed me and I did indeed check in online, then directed me to the waiting area. My number was called roughly 90 seconds later, and then I was able to get my eyes checked, take my picture, and confirm my information within the next couple minutes. I was back out at my car to leave at 10:42, before the time of my actual appointment. Huge shout out to the main representative I worked with, Ashley, who was kind, efficient, and fun in an environment that is typically perceived as none of those things. She also had the cutest pink keyboard and was a great representation of the WA DOL.

    Had to go to the DMV in order to get the new Enhanced Real ID. Went on Friday, 5/16/25. Arrived…read moreat around 9:30 AM and had to wait in line at the entrance to get a number ticket (#421). At that time, they were at #360. The numbers were being called randomly at times for Walk-Ins and Appointments, so had to keep an eye on the monitor for the number and ding sound. The PA system or volume was so low you could hardly hear anything. Was sitting in the waiting area for over an hour. Got called up at 10:45 AM. Shared my required documents (Mail with Name and Home Address on it, a valid U.S. Passport) and current Driver's License. The lady who assisted me was very friendly and helpful. She was knowledgeable and provided adequate details and information about what the Real ID is included with - Radio Frequency Identification) technology, a unique identifier to confirm the authenticity of the ID. After verifying my information on the screen, she took a photo of me and requested the payment. It was only $21.00 since my current driver's license doesn't expire until 2027, so have to wait until 2026 to renew it for an additional 8-year one since it has to be within a year or less until your Driver's License expires to be able to get the extended one. Thanked the nice lady and exited the DMV. It was a good experience, overall... The waiting period was as expected, so be aware of that when you visit... Also, there aren't enough parking spaces close by during peak times, so you might have to park in the back or across the street.
