I really wanted to love this place. The food is good, genuinely. You can tell the kitchen puts love into it. But here is the problem: the owner is clearly staying in the kitchen with their head in a hole and has no idea what customers are actually experiencing. The dining room was cold. Not comfortable. Not cozy. Just cold. My wife ordered something she didn't expect and didn't like, but no one ever came by to ask how things were. No one noticed. The waiter wasn't rude. He just wasn't attentive. Out of touch, not alert, going through the motions. We sat there in an empty, cold room with pre-poured dipping sauces in little plastic cups like we were at a takeout counter. its chintzy, For $50? Really? Here is the thing people need to understand: people don't just eat out to eat. They eat out to feel better about their lives. Even if just for an hour. Even if just to escape the kitchen and the stress at home. When the service is missing, or poor, or causes more stress than it relieves, it's not worth going back. No matter how good the food is. It was slow when we were there. So, it's not like they were overwhelmed. They just weren't paying attention to the people who actually showed up. I feel for the owners. I do. Running a restaurant is brutal. But if folks like us don't come back, and we won't, you're in trouble. Because the service element is like a note which says we want you back or we could give a****. Woot! Picked up daughter from the train and called ahead for take-out since I also picked up two road-weary kittens. The young woman who took our order was totally delightful and well-spoken. The order was ready for us when I got there. We ate in the car and the grilled beef skewer was a mind the best I've ever had. So tender. Actually medium rare inside. But with a char and great marinade. Dusted with chopped scallion and sesame seeds. No dipping sauce required. The interior dining room was very spacious and clean. Rainy day means pho! That's what Lisette was craving so we tried a place new to both of us. Parking can be tricky, might end up on the street. Inside is big and open with quite a few tables full for a Wednesday night. We had spring rolls too start-- perfectly fresh. Lisette had traditional pho with tripe and beef, while I tried a stir fry noodle dish. I immediately had order envy when I saw her pho! The pho here is not bad, but I thought that the portion size was too small for about $15 a bowl, which is close to LA and Bay Area prices. I was expecting cheaper pricing given that it's in Springfield MA. My friend ordered a chicken pho, but they misheard it for another vegetarian item. We brought this up and they asked us if we wanted the chicken in which we said yes, but we ended up getting charged for the item they mistaken and extra for the chicken. Also, the street to the left of the restaurant seems a bit sketchy at night since it's super dark with minimal lighting. read more

The X region of Springfield has an amazingly good selection of Vietnamese restaurants, but this is my favorite. Be sure to check out the posted specials when you arrive. I particularly love the bún but the soups are great...as is everything on their huge menu. I'm not an expert but would say this is one of the more authentic Vietnamese places with something for everyone, even if you might have to ask for clarification occasionally. The only reservation with Soc Trang is parking. They have a little funny shaped triangular lot - I almost always still find a spot, but parking is pretty easy right along the side street if the lot is full. read more

So we wanted to try a Vietnamese restaurant after leaving mgm and this placed opens up early 9am. We came and it was empty, the worker came over w menus, hot tea, and ask if we wanted anything else to drink. His service gave it an extra star bc he was nice. However as for as authentic Vietnamese food, maybe we ordered the wrong items today. I didn't know what to order or what I was craving so I let my fiancé pick. We ordered fried calamari with sweet and sour sauce and banh canh noodles with pork, shrimp, and imitation crab meat. I wish they added salt and pepper to the seasoning and the sauce is the typically sweet Thai chili sauce. As for as the noodles, it was blahhhhh. I had better banh canh noodles. The one they had seem store bought not freshly made. I didn't know they used imitation crab meat, so that was a downer. Dissatisfied meal, but that's ok it happens. We walked into Soc Trang Vietnamese Restaurant on a Friday seeking warmth from the cold, and something deliciously nourishing. At first, there was some hesitance because they're still doing some work/remodeling outside, and to be honest; the establishment doesn't really look like a restaurant from the outside. At first glance I thought it was a hardware store, but hopefully the outer appearance is being worked on and once it's finished it'll look more inviting. Our reason for coming here is because we were told that this is the new Vinh Chau which I always enjoyed when visiting the New England area but personally, I tasted differences with the food, and I didn't think it was as good. I shall momentarily explain specifically what that means. I'd say the overall new location is about 3 times bigger than the old Vinh chau. Service was excellent, and our waitress was really kind and patient - especially with my excessively undecided aunt that kept changing her menu option every 5 seconds. I was able to get my meatless options and the Vegetarian style pho I ordered was absolutely delicious. The broth was golden and rich tasting, the tofu was lightly fried so it had a slight crunch; really very good, I'd come back for that happily. The summer rolls however, i'd definitely skip that. It was literally just rice noodles, a slab of tofu, and a thai basil leaf wrapped in rice paper - very boring and uneventful and in my opinion doesn't warrant the almost $6 price tag. Everyone else at the table ordered the chicken noodle soup which they said didn't measure up to Vinh Chau's, they still liked it, but again; it just wasn't the same. I was torn between 3 and 4 stars here and I finally decided that because service was so good, I'd give them a 4 but the food was between a 3 and 4. I'd still recommend Soc trang because of its good service, and definitely give that vegetarian soup a try. read more

We arrived 40 min before closing and received the most annoyed service imaginable - young man waiter was flippant and paid little attention to order details coming back three times to clarify/change, clearly mad we showed up. The Pho broth lacked ANY depth of flavor. The boba milk tea had the worst flavorless tapioca beads ever. The beef sticks were really tasty but small. The bill was really high for the small portions and the server stood there and waited for the credit card while we were trying to eat. Must be a family run business gone wrong, because this young man would have been fired otherwise. We will never go back. read more

We ordered pick up- three beef pho and two lemongrass chicken soups. We also ordered spring rolls, crispy wings, and avocado shakes. Everything was really delicious. The soup add-ins were generous in measure as well. Unfortunately, the soups weren't packaged well and two of them didn't make the transport home. Big mess in the bag. We salvaged what we could and enjoyed it to the best of our ability. TIP: do take care to ensure the lids are properly sealed to avoid our disappointment. Just to comment on a previous user's review: I wouldn't quite say this place is sketchy but the neighborhood definitely is. The parking lot is an odd triangle shape and you'd be lucky to find a spot on the weekend - or during any popular time. Other than that, you'll have to find yourself parked next to their sharp curb - so be careful when you're trying to parallel park. The place is generally pretty large inside. There's plenty of seating, you would just wish they had the parking space to accomodate all of their guests. The food is good but I wouldn't say it's the best Vietnamese food in Springfield. It is fairly decent though and it's about $10 per person. Our server was friendly and he helped us out with some selections on the menu. The place was pretty clean and the bathrooms were also clean. I wouldn't recommend ordering the milk tea since it's so little for about $4 a glass. Our server motioned with his hands that it's about 8 inches tall but that's literally the size of the wine glass that they serve it in, not the actual drink. Nice try though! Overall, it's a decent place. Good for some casual eating but I probably wouldn't recommend for a fancy date night for anything. Wonderful food and great service...even with a big festive banquet in progress! This was our first visit and we're already planning our next meal. The fried wonton shrimp appetizer was a great first bite. They came out sizzling hot and had a great sweet/spicy chili sauce for dipping. My husband had the lemongrass broth with rice noodles and shrimp...a large steaming bowl with bean sprouts and basil provided on the side. Delicious, fragrant and full of perfectly cooked shrimp. I had the bun bowl with grilled pork and spring roll, beautifully presented with bean sprouts, vermicelli, peanuts and veg garnish. Super unassuming spot- we were planning on going to the Vietnamese restaurant across the street but they were closed on Wednesdays. We ordered a pho and the Vietnamese pancake. The pho ingredients were standard but the broth was an absolute stand out- full of tangy and savory flavors. The pancake was delicious as well, especially as a light summer food. One of the best Vietnamese food I've had, other than a Vietnamese friend's home-cooked meal. The food felt very "home cooked" and the service was very attentive. We ordered their special lobster to share. It's wasn't your usual ginger and scallion lobster, which we were expecting. Their sauce was thicker and sweeter. However, I enjoyed their taste on the dish and would order again. Though they didn't actually give us the whole lobster. While waiting for my pork chops, which came out later than the rest of our food, I tried the Pho soup. The soup was on the sweet side, but again tasted home cooked and I honestly really enjoyed it. Pork chops: So. Good. Separately and together. The pork chops were flavorful (sweet but savory), crispy on the outside, and tender. Everything on my plate complimented each other. The pull (and craving of fresh spring rolls) was strong this afternoon so I was luckily to be traveling with my +1 who is always in the mood for some Vietnamese food (especially when Pho is on the menu). Shoutout to Thein N. for his review which steered us to this awesome restaurant. Although we arrived in between lunch and dinner, and the restaurant was completely empty, we were waited upon by a lovely employee during the duration of our visit to Soc Trang. After receiving our beverages (Unsweetened iced Vietnamese tea, I think) I started to pursue the expansive, but not overly daunting menu of noodle, rice and hot pot dishes. Our waitress was sweet and answered all of my questions, and did not even bat an eye when I asked to modify my fresh spring roll order to omit the pork. My first choice was the shredded cabbage salad but they were out - boo - however my second choice - a make your own spring roll dish - caught my eye and I went for it! My +1 - predictably ordered the beef Pho. In no time both our spring rolls and our main meals were brought to us. A bit perplexed when all the ingredients were put in front of me, our waitress easily explained the "how to" of assemblage and consumption. There is something to be said about assembling your own dish (hello tacos!) but the ingredients were on point and each bite was burst of excitement to my taste buds. Perfectly seasoned (and moist) chicken, layered with basil (or mint), steamed rice noodles, cucumbers, bean sprouts, and lettuce were all available to wrap up in rice paper that I learned to gently dip into hot water to soften. I have always been a bit of an over stuffer but the moisten rice paper took on the load. My meal was perfectly satisfying and a steal at 11.95 and can see why this place gets so many positive reviews. I don't head to Springfield that often but will definately keep this restuarant in my wheelhouse! read more

This place is stellar, and the restaurant has a very "at home" vibe. The folks are friendly, and offered me and my friend some excellent advice on what to order (not that we needed help--we've eaten a lot of Pho--but becuase we wanted to know their particular favorite dishes). That kind of hospitality is always refreshing. Again, the food is stellar. We both got large bowls. I did feel like I finished my spicy lemongrass soup wishing there were more noodles, but I also feel like (compared to other pho places around) there was more chicken in the dish. It's a trade off, really. I prefer more noodles to chicken, but I appreciate the extra protein! The egg rolls were out of the park good. The batter around them is delicate but also crunchy, and that's the perfect combo, I think. And that limeade was lights out. It was the perfect compliment to the spicy lemongrass soup! Check this place out. You know it's good becuase all the local, Springfield, beat cops frequent this place! Haha. I've been here a few times, and each visit there have been police officers.
