Driving into the plaza...the sidewalk is a bit lifted from the road, so expect it to be a bit bumpy coming in and out of the lot. It took about 20-39 mins for the food to come out but I believe there is just one cook working. The rolls were delicious and I really like their So Ramen roll. It was creamy and crunchy. My house ramen was also really good and I enjoyed it. My fiancé thought his ramen was a bit bland. But that might just be his opinion on ramen overall. Each item runs about $14 to $20 each. So a meal for 2 can run you about at minimum $40. Overall we enjoyed our time here and would come back. read more

I wanted to go get wings, but my friend wanted soup, and it was a cold day. I didn't resist. We stopped into a new ramen shop near my alma mater, and I've got to say: where was this twenty years ago? (I know where. The strip mall that was here was either condemned or nonexistent. I forget which.) Being CCSU s spring break, there wasn't much going on. That is, we saw a few pickups and DoorDash orders, but we had the full restaurant to ourselves. The waitress was quick, but the to-go orders left us waiting (totally normal, not a complaint.) First, the good: the ramen is a sizable portion. You can tell it's all made from scratch. It's not the saltiest thing you'll ever eat. The spicy is actually spicy, if you mix in all the chili paste they leave resting on the fish cake. I grabbed my chopsticks and dug in, and I was glad I got the $3.50 milk tea on the side (you get it for cheap with a bowl), though I found it very sweet. The pork in my ramen was crispy on the sliver of crust, and the rest was cooked to perfection. Many other places can do it like that, but if they'd messed that up, they'd lose some points. The bad is a very short list. Our ramen had vermicelli or angel hair instead of, you know, ramen noodles. Maybe that's their thing? All in all, a soup place next to the up-the-hill dorms is just what I needed decades ago. I'm rarely up that way these days, but I'd totally stop here even in the summer. read more

Oh-my-God this place has the best spicy miso I have EVER had. It's just the right spicy and no after taste and the noodles were cooked to perfection. This place is small and not super upscale looking like mecha which is what I really enjoy as it's more welcoming for a quick lunch or dinner on your own or with friends. Very relaxing vibe to it and the decor is so freakin cute! Just take a look at the kitty stickers in the pictures and the quirky signs. My server was very nice; quiet but attentive and made sure each table was accommodated accordingly. Also the music is edm playing which makes the place a bit more unique. I can't wait to return during the fall semester at CCSU. Take note they do take Blue Chip cards from CCSU. Cash will be cheaper then using CC as there will be no processing fee. This place is so bomb! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior is pretty small but I liked the more mom and pop shop vibe[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. We were seated and greeted promptly. Once we got the menu, I was shocked by how extensive it was. So many interesting kinds of ramen! Plus the option to order sushi and sashimi. We stick to the hot stuff and didn't get apps or sushi. I got the spicy curry pork ramen and it was so good. First of all it was a nice heaping pile. Second the broth had an excellent kick to it. Meat was succulent. Wish I had tried something with more charisu cuz it was melt in your mouth flavor. My friend got a katsu curry combo. That was so cool, cuz you get a mini ramen and a mini curry katsu. I had never tried curry katsu but my friend has before. She said this was the best she has had so far. I tried a little bit and was blown away. Next time I'll be having that! My friend and area Yelper Alicia N told me that So.Ramen had opened near CCSU in the plaza with MoFongo Express. They offer over over 20 menu items of ramen including Katsu, Oxtail, seafood, Kim Chee and Shabu Shabu Beef. They offer base ramen options such as Miso, Shoyu, Shio and Curry. In addition, they have apps such as Shumai, Gyoza, Chicken Katsu and Pork Buns. In addition, they have "Plate Meals" such as various Fried Rice dishes, Chicken Katsu Curry Rice and Udon. I was expecting more of a takeout vibe, but there are about 10 dark wooden tables which each have 4 chairs. While the atmosphere is not necessarily a selling point, it's nicer than many takeout places with seating areas. One unique feature of the menu is the option to order Mini Combos. This allowed me to explore the menu a bit for $15.95. I ordered the mini combo with (1) a small version of Spicy Miso Charsiu (pork) Ramen, and (2) a small Japanese Chicken Katsu Curry Rice. I ate at So.Ramen and service was friendly. For a "mini" combo, there was a lot of food. Chicken Katsu is essentially a thin, breaded chicken cutlet. It's on the menu in many area places, but I don't usually notice the curry version of this dish in CT. If you were to walk in certain Manhattan neighborhoods, you would notice places specializing in Katsu Curry. I thought the Brown curry sauce was very good. The chicken and white sticky rice both had good texture. I will probably return for this dish with some Katsu fans in my household. The ramen was pretty good. I generally only eat ramen at some of the best spots in CT. I can't say this ramen compared to those places. The broth seemed a bit less nuanced. The roast pork fell apart when I tried to pick it up, whereas some of the higher end area places offer firmer pork belly (Chashu) that seems higher quality. The noodles seemed less firm than some other area noodles. Some of the other ingredients didn't stand out compared to other places. However, I'm not sure that So.Ramen is trying to compete with those higher end spots. You can get full size ramens at So.Ramen for as low as $11.95. The most expensive ramens are $15.95 to $16.95. I think So.Ramen is trying to fill a need for convenience and slightly lower priced options. It did a pretty good job of filling that need. I would definitely recommend trying So.Ramen if you live nearby. 4 Stars read more

My son and I was looking for a place to eat that possibly had ramen on the Berlin Turnpike, where a few spots opened up near the car dealerships. The first one that caught my eye was So Ramen, because of an item they sold as an appetizer. If you're from Hawaii, you will automatically know what Mochiko Chicken is. It did not disappoint! It was tender and very flavorful! The ramen broth was amazing as well! Ever since our favorite place closed down a few years ago, we've been looking for a new spot, and I am glad we found this place! Needless to say, it is not on the turnpike, but rather near the college on East Street. Very clean interior, and our waitress was very nice. So Ramen is so close to home I just had to Pick the perfect day to go and dine in. Setting inside is very simple but clean . Had about 8 tables and all of them Seat 4 people. When we arrived I thought I'd put my order in and then stay to sit and eat but we got seated, greeted and our orders were taken. So it was nice. No one was dining in but many people were picking up to go Orders. It took about 10-15 minutes for our dishes to Come out. So Super Bowl Sunday, , called for Ramen. My dad had the Gomoku Ramen which was more colorful and had porkbelly,veggies, seaweed, egg, fish cakes , corn and bamboo shoots. My dad enjoyed his bowl of ramen and had very good flavor. For myself I chose the oxtail Ramen. Had about 3 pieces of oxtail and to Make it GF, rice noodles were used and a different kind of sauce since they do not have GF soy sauce. I was surprised at how good it tasted. Came out nice and hot and a good size bowl. I just wish it had something else in there besides oxtail,mushrooms, onions and scallions. The egg! I always look forward to the egg in Ramen! Plus adds a bit of color! So-Ramen is good to have nearby, i would go again and try something different. Not a bad place. Quaint and right off the CCSU campus. We wanted to try a new ramen place. My only gripes is that when I get a bowl of ramen I want it to see the steam coming off it as I being to eat it. I ordered the Katsu curry ramen and it was ok to say the least. The katsu chicken tasted of freezer burn and the breading is not the greatest. Personally don't think it was worth the price considering the quality and toppings. The service was good.
