Very friendly and delicious food. Nice menu. It appears to be a take out place but there are tables for dine in.

Consistent, flavorful, and good portion sizes. Went for lunch and the service was pretty quick,…read morethough we went right at opening so they were still in the process of starting their day. Lunch specials are smaller portion, but good for the price (raised to $12.95 now since my last menu photo) We split a lot of dishes because we couldn't decide: Wonton soup appetizer {4.5/5}: Loved how delicate the wontons were and the clear broth was great for a cold day. Tad too salty though. Lunch special --Braised pork belly {3/5}: Very tender, but kind of monotone in flavor. Very filling! Lunch special --Hot and sour gizzards {4.5/5}: This might freak people out in terms of texture, but I LOVE this texture. Good chew and pops of heat from the peppers and acid from the pickled green beans Lunch special --Cumin dish lamb {3/5}: kind of chewy and not as much flavor as I wished, but not bad! Chicken wings {3/5}: Crunchyyyy. Battered wings, not as much flavor as their chongqing chicken which I prefer, but not bad

Really good sichuan food, giant portions, authentic…read more Been meaning to swing by this place. Often cited as one of the best sichuan places around, had to make the trek to see. Outside is very much a busy shopping plaza in not the best part of town. Inside is a completely different story. Very clean and spacious, lots of booths and tables. Decorated well and a lot to see. The staff were friendly but there was a slight language barrier. We fumbled through the menu and found some bites to try. Food came out relatively quick, and that was a bit to manage because there were a lot of plates brought rather quickly. We got pics and dug in. The bites were flavored well. Nothing felt too greasy or under seasoned. The white pepper chicken was very crispy. But not a lot of chicken on each bite. The sweet and sour soup was both sweet and sour, but balanced enough that you could keep on eating it. The dumplings were fresh noodles and the filling was spiced well. The only flop was the spare ribs. Really tasty sauce, but very little meat on the bone. Had to suck on the bones to scrape enough meat off to make it a proper appetizer. It tasted good, just was not easy to eat. Price for the area was high for the neighborhood. It's got the quality and the flavor to command that price easily, but it doesn't match the stores. It's really good, but know that you're getting the real deal sichuan experience. Expect some heat, some saucy fingers, and some bones, and you'll get some really good bites

"I give her my heart but she wanted my soul But don't think…read moretwice, it's all right" (Bob Dylan) We visited Yue Se twice for takeout. Visit #1 was for steamed pork dumplings, and two soups -Won Ton and Hot & Sour. The six dumplings ($6) were fantastic. Plenty of overall size with a thin noodle wrap, and a wonderful meat filling. I detected some diced water chestnuts in the filling which gave the dish a nice crunch. The dipping sauce that came with the dumplings was exceptional, so all in all, this was a fantastic dish. The Won Ton soup ($3.50) was stocked with five huge wontons, more than you usually see in comparable containers. And Lord oh Lord was my H&S soup ($3.75) excellent. Never mind that it was meatless, it was by far one of the very spiciest H&S soups I ever had, and that was fine with me. I can't tell you how much I loved it. Visit #2 was for two of their $8.99 Box Lunches, and they are quite a deal. You get one of 21 entrees plus fried rice and an egg roll. The $8.99 base price is for a chicken or tofu or vegetarian dish; upgrades to pork or beef or shrimp will be a buck or two more. Similarly, the $8.99 base price is for plain fried rice, but you can upgrade to beef or shrimp fried rice for $3 more. My wife ordered Snow Pea Chicken and I went for the Mongolian Beef prepared hot and spicy. My Box Lunch was excellent. The egg roll was full-sized, and not the slimmed down mini version you sometimes see in a lunch special. Yes, it was mostly cabbage, but tasted great and wasn't greasy at all. My Mongolian Beef was a winner with plenty of delicious and tender thinly sliced beef mixed in with onions, scallions, and peppers. It was prepared hot and spicy, and I loved it. Oh, and the lunch had plenty of fried rice too. The meals were so generously portioned that we each had half and will finish them up in a day or two. So that means we'll get 4 servings for about $20 total. And how can any Asian food loving Yelper argue with that?

Food was very good. It's my new goto for close to home Chinese takeout. Prices are reasonable.read more

I've been getting takeout from Black Bamboo for over ten years, but this was my first time actually…read moresitting down to eat in. I love the new location- wow, what a difference inside! The space is absolutely beautiful: modern, bright, and spotless. The food was fresh, flavorful, and came out piping hot. They bring each dish out as it's ready instead of all at once, so keep that in mind if you like everything served together. Personally, I didn't mind because it just meant my soup was perfect when it arrived, and my son's appetizer followed shortly after. I didn't check out the bathrooms this time, but judging by the rest of the restaurant, I'm sure they're just as immaculate. Black Bamboo is the only Chinese food I'll eat, period. If you know me, you know I'm picky, and this place never disappoints. Every bite tastes fresh, the service is friendly, and the vibe is always calm and inviting. Over the years I have had everything on the menu, and I've never had a bad meal. My personal favorites: the egg rolls, scallion pancakes, hot and sour soup and their fried rice, which I honestly think is the best in the world, period. My son is all about their beef teriyaki and it's his go-to every single time. This is exactly the kind of place where you can try something new and know it's going to be good. I recently ordered the chop suey and egg foo young for the first time ever, and both were fantastic. If you've been curious to branch out, this is where you want to do it; you can't go wrong. Also, they have real duck sauce for a small upcharge. Not just stuff in the packet (yuck). So if you're craving Chinese food in West Hartford, go to Black Bamboo. You'll taste the quality, feel the difference, and probably end up like me... a loyal regular who can't eat Chinese anywhere else.

Takeout Review: I've…read moreread good reviews and drive by this place all the time; I always say to myself, "I've got to try that place out." We finally ordered some takeout there recently. Ordering was easy, just a simple call; pickup was also quick and easy. The parking lot was spacious and so was the restaurant. I saw people dining in there. There was a fish tank and the person that helped me was friendly. Prices and portions were comparable to other Chinese spots. I ordered the orange chicken combo with fried rice, crab rangoons, plain lo mein for my toddlers, and my husband had the general tso combo. The crab rangoons were A+++ definitely up there with the best I've had; thin fried wonton wrapper and a larger amount of creamy, cheesey, imitation crab filling. The orange chicken was good, I'd say 4/5; not the best I've had but it did the job. Everyone enjoyed their meals and we would order there again.

Arrived on this Friday for takeout…read more Private parking was a breeze. The restaurant was moderately busy during this lunchtime, with two waitresses taking care of the tables I ordered takeout for three of us, one order consisted of edame and a steamed chicken extra spicy with white rice, the other order was crab Rangoon and a vegetable fried rice. I chose the egg foo young lunch special. Both of my lunch guests were very happy with their meals, including raving about the crab Rangoon. My egg foo yung was just OK. The reasoning was it seemed like it was deep-fried in old oil that tasted a little burnt. The egg foo yung was very watery. As noticed on the bottom of the takeout container. The white rice was on point. The gravy provided was extremely watery. Overall, I would score the egg foo yung a 3.7 out of 10. The price for the three takeout meals was $36 and change. I thought this was a pretty good deal. Next time I come back, I won't be ordering the egg foo yung. I will try something else. Overall, if you're in the area, and need a quick lunch, this would be a decent choice.

Good food, reasonable prices for the area, dark…read more Came here cause the missus was craving dumpling and we've only dabbled in the restaurants in WeHa. Outside was unassuming. Sidewalks were torn up but the place is hard to find with lack of signage. We were able to get seated right away, and looked through their digital menu. We got a smattering of dishes, wontons and dumplings, a sandwich and a ramen. Food came out in a reasonable wait time. We took pics and dug in. The 7 flavor dumpling was the star of the show. Light and thin dumpling wrapper, savory sweet sauce, plenty of filling. The pork dumplings were good, but the wrapper was thicker and denser. The twice cooked pork sandwich was pretty tasty, the pork needed to be more present compared to the veggies, but appreciated the crisp of the bread. The ramen had a good amount of braised beef and noodles. The broth needed a little doctoring to coax out some of the more savory notes. Broth needed more aggressive seasoning though. The price was not too bad for the area. It's kind of like dim sum, where you get a small plate for the price but it's all shareable and the flavors are good. It's not very well lit, gave the place a very dark air about it. But as a restaurant, it's pretty good. There's a lot of great places in that area, and this one's a good option if you're looking for small plates.
