The food was good overall. The main dishes were sesame tofu and chicken with mixed vegetables, and the tofu was actually excellent. Unfortunately, the service was disappointing. I have so many fond memories of going to this place 10-15 years ago. Introduced to it by a room mate and it became a date night place with my now wife. Found our way back to the area tonight while the kids were at their grandparents and stopped here for lunch. Happy to see the place has not lost its charm, service, or welcoming ambience. I've lived in Newington for a number of years and there was a time when Ming Palace was my go to Chinese restaurant in the immediate area. For various reasons, I stopped going on a regular basis, but I may go once a year or so. The restaurant is pleasant inside. Generally speaking, I wouldn't say service is a selling point. But it's usually fairly efficient, for dine in at least. In terms of my interactions with the staff on this visit, they seemed largely transactional. I ordered a lunch special with chicken and eggplant in garlic sauce, pork fried rice and an egg roll. The good - the garlic sauce was tasty and the price was fair. The average-- the chicken, fried rice and egg roll were fine, but not particularly noteworthy. The not so good -- the texture of the Japanese style eggplant was mushy and the color was not ideal. Perhaps the texture was a style choice, but the eggplant at my favorite Chinese restaurant within short driving distance has a much firmer texture and better color. Also, I can't think of any type of restaurant that serves eggplant with this mushy texture. I was not a fan. I definitely have had better dishes at Ming Palace, but even on the best days, I wouldn't say that Ming Palace is better than 3.5 or 4 Stars. On this day, I've got to give 3 Stars. read more

We sat in and got to enjoy the chips and duck sauce that they gave you while waiting to order food. We had the tea too, which was very good. We started with crab Rangoon, which I wish had a bit more filling, but flavor was delicious, nice balance of the cream cheese and crab, which is more what I look for. I got the triple delight in garlic sauce- shrimp, chicken and beef. My boyfriend got the Szechuan lamb, both were very good but the triple delight came out on a sizzling plate. The sauce was so good and was excellent on the white rice after eating the main dish. The owner and family were very nice and accommodating. I just moved to Newington so I am glad to have found a go to Chinese food place, no wonder they have a large takeout audience! They have a large menu and I can't wait to try more! read more

The chicken wings were soaked in oil. There was no crisp in the chicken wings. It was just rubber which I couldn't eat. The wonton soup was good and the crisp eggroll. The amount of grease that was in the chicken wings completely threw off this entire experience as my main meal was not even eatable. Very unfortunate. read more

This is one of those Chinese-American restaurants that offer take-out but have a decent interior to dine-in. I swear they have been here forever, my entire life span. Throughout the years it has been up and down, tastes just as good as everywhere else really but sometimes its slow or a little off taste wise. I'm not mad at all though. Sesame chicken is nice and crispy everytime, not over sauced either. The wontons are OK, noticeably a lot more wonton noodle than meat. It was thick and chewy too. Chow fun was a little too greasy for my liking and one time the tea was way too sour, had to have been old. But with their prices, it's okay really! Service is very friendly and recently the food has been coming out fairly quick. They just need more consistency. That's all! Solid restaurant, they've been here forever so it's clear there are plently of regulars supporting this establishment. I'm one of them! read more

Met up with the wife for lunch. We had lunch at ming palace. My opinion of the food is that of being more like over priced takeout. It was ok don't get me wrong but it really wasn't all that. Fantastic service once again and the food was on point. I love that years go by and nothing changed. You still get these huge soup crackers with a side of duck sauce to munch on while you make your decision. It's a big menu with plenty of options its hard to choose one. Lunch specials here are great as well the prices are great !!! They have plenty of drinks some with cool names. Today we tried the Junebug which had coco rum,banana liquor, midori,pineapple juice with sweet n sour mixed. This took my tastebubs to another level. I wanted a appetizer so I chose golden fingers. Huge and yummy and piping hot they come with tongs , don't burn your fingers like I did, lol. Next was my beef and broccoli meal. It was so filling that I had to take the rest to-go. My family has been loyal customers to Ming Palace since the 90's. I'm writing this review because the new management is absolutely horrible. My wife and I have ordered from here at least 4 times recently and EVERY SINGLE TIME it has been the worst Chinese takeaway we've had. We ordered chicken and broccoli and it was absolutely inedible. The fried rice tasted like burnt plastic. The owner behind the counter is always rude. And there's just random boxes laid all over the dining room so you can't have the sit down experience anymore. So so so disappointing. This used to be the best in the area and now it's the worst in the area in my book. read more

This has to be one of the very worst Chinese food restaurants that I have ever eaten! Ordered Garlic chicken, garlic beef, general Tso Chicken and fried dumplings. The garlic dishes didn't have any garlic in them but what did the have? Carrots and celery. 95% of these dishes were carrots. i took pics hoping I could post it with my comment. There was pork instead of chicken and the General Tso dish never came. The dumplings were very chewy dough. Yuck!!! The best part of the meal was the inside of the dumplings. I remember visiting Ming Palace as a child. The staff is very friendly, attentive, and caring. The food was great, the drinks are great and inexpensive. The owner greats his regular customers by first name and you can tell customers feel comfortable with him because they themselves start a conversation. This was my favorite Chineese food Resturant ANYWHERE, they had a great staff, served great food at a great price. if I had company I ALWAYS took them to Ming Palace. About two months ago something happened... All the staff was gone and the prices went up... But after a few weeks of being away we went back again last night and I am sorry to say that after last night, I don't think we will be going back. Last time we were there while the staff was different (they claimed there was new owners) and the prices jumped greatly the food was still good. But this time the food was TERRIBLE. And to make matters worse the portions are much smaller now. They changed the plates being used to smaller plates to make it look like your getting more, but all 4 in my party left feeling hungry and normally when we go here we can not finish our meals. When I say the food was bad, I am not just talking about my opinion but in talking with others sitting around me said the same thing, in fact two tables sent their food back. I found it funny that EVERY table that was sat while we were there complained about the food. When the guy who was running the register came to us and asked how things were, we told him we were still hungry and that the food was bad. He ignored the food being bad and said when he brought our plate out it was nice and full and now it was empty. I said to him it looked full because he was using smaller plates... he smiled at me and told me I was very smart and next time I come in to remind him and he will give me more food on my plate... huh? It is sad what happened to this place. What was my favorite chineese place anywhere is now one that is now on my do no go to list. I have fond memories of this place - I remember when it first opened many years ago - it was so clean and the family that owned it took such pride in their business. For many years it was very good - clean and great food. Fast forward to now - summer of 2019....it has fallen apart - the windows at the entrance are filthy - if you own a restaurant and you have dirty windows at your entrance then we can only imagine what the kitchen looks like. After an afternoon of laser tag the boys and I went out for Chinese food. Lured by the scent wafting from Ming Palace we found it using the Yelp app and wandered in. The vibe is of old school Chinese restaurants in the various Chinatowns around the country. We were the only ones headed in but probably because it wasn't mealtime. The place was clean and the host friendly so we took a table. Green tea, fried noodles and duck sauce on the table. Totally old school. We ordered egg rolls, fried rice and General Tso's Chicken. Hunter and I tried to get Teagan to try hot and sour soup but to no avail. The hot and sour soup was delicious, loaded with pork and tofu and mushrooms. The fried rice and General Tso's were served family style. Plenty for each of us. The food was fresh, hot and delicious. The service was also great. Water refilled, empty dishes cleared and smiles all around. By the time we were finishing up, the restaurant was filling up. Many times when the restaurant is empty the service suffers. Not so at Ming Palace on this Saturday afternoon. The visit to Ming Palace brought me back to some of my favorite Chinese dinner experiences. Everything tasted pre-frozen and this place suck. Oh, no. They've dropped the ball. A recent take-out order was a disaster. Apparently their chicken has flown the coop... The order was taken cheerfully and delivered very rapidly. The order was fairly large and included special directions, all of which were adhered to. But that's where it ends. Won ton soup was filled with big, chewy dumplings (the kind we like) and there was flavor in the meat. However, the broth was yellow-colored salty water. No chicken flavor at all. Perhaps they forgot? Did the chicken jump out of the pot? Were we not promised by a long-ago President that there'd be a chicken in every pot? These people apparently missed the boat... Additionally, I am not sensitive to MSG, however, I'd hazard a guess that consuming just a cup of this broth is what caused my extreme thirst later in the evening. Chicken with mushrooms was absolutely tasteless and although the portion appeared large, we had to play "hide and seek" with the chicken. In fact, at first we thought it was a vegetarian dish because the sauce was just white, thick glop -- totally lacking in flavor. Later, we found a few tiny slices of chicken, hiding behind a bamboo shoot and a piece of bok choy. And what's with all the water chestnuts? I mean, this dish should've been called "water chestnuts with mushrooms" -- and a prize to the diner who finds the chicken. A spicy chicken dish with Garlic Sauce was neither spicy nor contained much chicken at all... The zippy sauce was flavorful enough to make the fluffy white rice which accompanied our order worth eating. We'd had several very pleasant old-school sit-down Chinese dining experiences here but we're going to think twice about coming here again unless in a pinch. read more

I swung by here after doing a little shopping while waiting for the B-bus. I thought it would be your regular grease-soaked American-Chinese dishes in a 2by4 so I lugged all of my shopping bags in and realized it was a sit down restaurant. I immediately felt out of place, but was welcomed anyway! The server even helped me set my bags down. I didn't get to stay since the bus was coming soon, so I changed my order to to-go, which they had no problem with. Serving time was great. I had a minute or two to sample the food and WOW! I recommend beef and broccoli with egg drop soup. That's what I ordered. In fact, once I'm done writing this I'm going to go finish it up. I wish I never had to put it down to get on that darn bus.
