Slammin Chinese food !! Got the orange chicken & chicken fried rice and MAN IT WAS GOOD. Flavorful, cooked perfectly, so tasty.

Food was okay. Portions are normal. Price is good - $9 lunch special. Now, the rice, clumpy. Was hot, but clumpy. The chicken had me thinking. It's some of the stringiest chicken I've ever had. My friend and I went for dinner at Ming Moon. It is very small inside with just a few tables. We placed our order at the counter and sat down. We got an egg drop soup, beef and vegetables and shrimp and vegetables. We also got Diet Cokes each. Right when we opened our cokes, the lady asked if we'd like to take our food to go or stay. We were already sitting when she asked this. I told her we'd like to stay. She then asked again, if we'd like to stay or go. Obviously she didn't want us to stay, so as soon as our food was ready we left. How rude? We ate at a bench nearby. The container of egg drop soup was huge. It was warm and tasty. My friend had the shrimp and vegetables and I had the beef and vegetables. It was very good, the beef was tender and juicy, as were the vegetables. Having recently moved to the Wethersfield area, Mark C and I have been on the hunt for a new "go to" restaurant for Chinese Take Out for those nights when it's easier to dial up dinner. This past Friday after having attended the Liquid Lounge at the CT Science Center - we decided to see if Ming Moon would pass our very rigorous take-out standards. Even as we entered the restaurant around 8:30 pm, Ming Moon was doing a brisk take out and delivery business. Employees moved throughout the back of the kitchen making the standard take out items Americans consider "authentic". We had to wait several minutes to be assisted which was fine as it gave us time to peruse the menu and take a look around. In contrast to many of your typical Chinese Take out restaurants, Ming Moon actually has several booths and tables for those looking to dine in. Taking a change I ordered a new to me soup called Dragon Phoenix Soup - which was described to me as "white chicken, egg whites, mushrooms, peas, and chunks of lobster meat." Sounded good - so I ordered a container along with my standard steamed shrimp with mixed vegetables (garlic sauce on the side) and brown rice. Mark C. ordered some steamed dumplings, their house Won Ton Soup, and some boneless spare ribs. The order took about 10 minutes and while we waited the aromas from the kitchen made me hope that our home would soon be engulfed by the same smells. Once home it was time for the true test - the taste test. Well I am sorry to say that the aromas from the restaurant definitely did not translate to the food we ate. From overly spicy, non-garlicy sauce, to dry/tough boneless spare ribs with little to no sauce, our meal was a disappointment on all levels. The best part of the dumplings - the sauce that came with it. I will given them credit that my steamed dish was chocked full of shrimp but the sauce that accompanied it was so spicy that it was a struggle to finish. And the soup - Mark C.'s "House" Won Ton which is my take out gold standard fell flat - it just tasted like they took chicken broth and added some dumplings and vegetables - and my Dragon Phoenix Soup consisted of a thick cornstarch broth with what appeared to be canned lobster, I think. I could not tell as the soup was so overrun with mushrooms and I had to scoop the bottom of the container to get at the lobster. I have been a customer for 20 years but the people that took it over two years ago have steadily let the quality decline to the point where it's inedible for me. Everything has the same basic underlying flavor of chicken broth. Nothing is seasoned properly or marinated for enough time. The ribs and teriyaki beef are not broiled long enough to bring out the flavors and char. The rice is inferior compared to what the previous owners used. Every time I went there it got worse, so I just stopped going. Would recommend you stay away unless you like bland, poorly prepared food. read more

I have lived in the area for years and have been searching for a Chinese restaurant with food as good as the one in my hometown. Ming Moon is the only one that even comes close. I got takeout from them for the first time just before they closed for COVID and I was really sad when I found out. Well they are open again and I'm so happy! They do not offer curbside pickup, but they have totally reconfigured the restaurant to keep them and the customers super safe. There is a new wall and a plexiglass window with a little door that they open to give you your food. They post the order numbers that are ready in the window so you know before going in if it is ready. There's just one customer inside at a time. As far as the food goes, be a little adventurous. We've been going to here for years. Mostly, the food has been pretty decent and no super complaints. However, this evening's order was different. Half of it was missing, and since I ordered takeout, I needed to go back and pick up the rest of it. The food itself was extremely disappointing. I ordered a happy family meal, and it tasted and looked like it was thrown together using a hodge-podge of leftovers. The shrimp was more than questionable. There was no sauce. This was my second visit, and a completely different experience from my first time six months ago. This time I called and was unsure if I'd reached the right place because I couldn't understand the woman at all. Told her what I wanted and she said, "OK" and started to hang up. I had to ask how long it would take and was still unsure about what she said. When I arrived, the place was completely empty, she had the food bagged up already, never asked if I wanted white rice or fried rice or lo mein (assumed I wanted pork fried rice, I guess, since that's what I got). She then disappeared into the back, so asking about the free soup or soda was out of the question. Not really sure how to rate this place now. I guess I'll have to go back a third time to see which end of the spectrum my experience lies on. =====EDIT #2: July 2013===== OK, I've now been to Ming Moon three times and finally grew the balls to ask about the advertised free soup/soda. I moved to Newington about 3 years ago and was looking for local takeout that would get delivered to my house. Ming Moon was a couple of miles down the street and delivered (pun intended). Calling in your order was quick and easy. I've ordered from them 8-10x and they have always gotten my order correct. I'm not "picky", but I do order my shrimp fried rice without vegetables or soy sauce. It's a strange request that they handle well and it comes out delicious. Pricing is about "market value". They aren't expensive in my opinion. The rice always seems tastes fresh. I've gone to other places where the rice tastes reheated/recooked. I highly recommend the shrimp egg roll. Beef had a tendony chew to it... Also had white chunks of fat still on the beef.... Tonight was the 2nd time in two weeks that I had take out from ming moon. Last week I had gen. so chicken, my ultimate test for Chinese take out. It was edible. Very dry, like it had been reheated more than once. Won ' t waste calories on that anymore; I had the $ 10 value meal; one little stalk of over cooked broccoli and the hot peppers were so old, there was no heat to them. Tonight I had another value meal ( no egg roll with this one but, after my first eggroll last week, it wasn't missed. I could have gotten a whole box of frozen egg rollls from B J 's and never have known the difference.
