Ming Bao, which shares a Plaza with Square Peg Pizza, has been on my radar for a while. A nearby late morning appointment gave me the perfect opportunity to finally visit. Ming Bao is currently takeout only. We ordered the Twice Cooked Pork and Happy Family Lunch specials, which came with choice of soup or egg roll. We also ordered crab Rangoon. I ordered by phone. My order was ready on time. My phone and in person interactions were positive. It's clear that they have a good relationship with repeat customers. I think the Happy Family and Twice Cooked Pork were both above average. The meats/seafood/poultry and vegetables were all pretty good. The sauces for the two dishes were somewhat similar, but the Twice Cooked Pork was a bit saucier and spicier. Otherwise, both dishes had pleasant brown sauces that didn't make much of a statement. The crab Rangoon, pork fried rice and the egg roll were all about average to slightly above average. The outer and inner Rangoon textures were right on, but I prefer a slightly sweet filling, and this filling was not noticeably sweet. I prefer a bit more meat and variety in egg rolls, but it was otherwise fine. The pork fried rice was fairly routine. If I lived in Glastonbury, I'm sure Ming Bao would be part of my takeout rotation. I have similar options that are closer to me that I'm more likely to patronize. Four Stars read more

Recommended by a friend we got takeout as they don't have dine in. I had shredded beef with garlic sauce and house special chow mei fun. Both were excellent and tasted very fresh. And I got a plus as a diabetic it did t raise my blood sugar like normal Chinese sauces usually do. I'll add more to this review when I go back again which will be very soon! read more

We had takeout from Ming bowl the other night. It was some of the best food we've ever had since we moved to East Hartford. There was plenty of food. The prices are fantastic. I've come by for a quick takeout lunch on a few occasions and have really be impressed by the food and the friendly service. On a recent visit, they were forming fresh dumplings in a corner. The lunch specials all come with soup or an egg roll but I ordered both. Really happy with that as the egg roll tasted fresh and most importantly wasn't oily! I dare say it was one the best versions of an egg roll I've had in a while. The hot and sour was also quite good. Not overly peppery and full of the stuff the soup is supposed to have. It's a big lunch portion too. Got general Taos chicken which I almost never Order but it seemed a good idea. I wasn't disappointed. Instead of something either more batter than chicken, this version had tender chicken that was only lightly breaded with a thin coating of sweet and spicy sauce. The sauce was also sparse which was good because you don't want too much of it overwhelming the fish. And the fried rice was fresh too without over cooking. Just a simple dish. This is our favorite place for takeout - food is really good. I discovered a new favorite dish - chow mei fun. Have tried it at at least 4 other places, and Ming bau is the best. For take out this place is good. We always call in our order which is easy and usually ready in 15-20 minutes and is nice and hot. I get the General Tso Tofu which is a very big size so great for the price. You basically get the whole container of tofu with some broccoli then white rice pint for the price of a chicken combo meal so I'm a happy camper! read more

Glastonbury Chinese food is not great - If you like chinese food you have to travel elsewhere unfortunately. Coconut Shrimp had barely any sauce on it - please dont skimp - its the best part! Crab rangoons had NO flavor. Super dissappointing as rangoons are my FAVE! Husband got general tsos and fried rice. He said the chicken & sauce were good, but the fried rice was super dry and had no flavor. I will say they were very busy for a Wednesday night so maybe we need to try different dishes! read more

I am visiting the Hartford area on business for the next 3 weeks. I was in the mood for Chinese food and saw the great reviews for Ming Bao, and decided to make the 15 minute drive to see what it's about. The inside of the restaurant is very clean and updated. The server was extremely friendly, as was everyone at the restaurant. I decided to get the General Tso's chicken and fried Peking Ravs. Both were the best I've ever had. The chicken was so crispy and flavorful, and the Ravs were out of this world. I am in the area for another 2.5 weeks, and I'm sure I'll be back at least 2 more times to try out the other options on their menu! Highly recommended! read more

My co workers and I were talking about Chinese food all morning so we decided we'd follow through and order the lunch special from Ming Bao. I ordered the garlic chicken, and even though it was good, it didn't have much garlic. Went on xmas day despite mediocre food once before, and no improvement. The main issue is that the food is not fresh. The wonton soup was inedible and had to be thrown away. The broth tasted like dishwater and the dumplings were disgusting. The lo Mein and fried rice were stale. The only good thing was the broccoli. This is very low quality food cooked poorly. My family and I love ming bao! We live just down the street and have been going there for many many years. I have fond memories of eating there when the dining room was still open.
