I probably had a one in one thousand experience. This took place between 14 May 24 and 6 June 24. I ordered a starter. Asked about the core, was told don't waste postage sending a core back if it wasn't a Bosch, the ONLY brand they rebuild. The starter arrived in a reasonable amount of time. The starter they sent me was not a Bosch. The starter had no markings that I could find. SoCal wanted pictures,I sent pictures, waited several days with no response. I alerted SoCal I was sending the starter back. Was informed I needed a return number, but since it was in the mail, a exception was made. The technical department examined the starter and agreed to a refund. So far so good. The original invoice was $164.24, starter and $50.00 core charge. They refunded $147.48. A difference of $16.76. With difference of $16.76 and the $23.40 to send it back, thier Blunder cost me $40.16. read more

Many people seem to less than a 5 star experience, and I can some insight to why that is...the place is kind of old school, if you have no clue as to what you need, and have no clue on how to work on your car, and want to hang out and BS, they don't have time for that. I put a $400 order through Amazon with one of their partners located out of state. I waited and waited and my order was never processed. I contacted them to see what was up and apparently they were too busy filling other orders. No sweat - a quick Google search hooked me up with the SoCal Imports website. I clicked here and there, filled my cart, entered a 15% off Easter code and got ALL kinds of extra parts for the same $400 I was going to spend on Amazon. I've used their webchat feature and was able to get someone on the other end to answer my questions in a timely manner. Incredible service if you ask me. Best part is I ordered parts on a Tuesday, they shipped Wednesday, and I received my complete order on Thursday. It helps that I'm local, I'm sure, but they processed my order with lightning speed - unlike the other shop that shall remain nameless. So I called , guy names Dan answered. Very Rude right off the bat. I asked if they had motor mounts for my year of Volkswagen, he sounded irritated that I called them Motor mounts.. saying they are actually transmission mounts as he breathes heavily every time I ask a question. SoCal imports totally burned me. I ordered two tail light assemblies online and chose to pick them up. Their web site says to wait for a phone call before coming to will call. I sent a message asking about when I can pick them up. They just called six days later, to say they don't even have them in stock. I've purchased several items from SCI. Most products have worked as expected. Two products were not of quality, including an exterior mirror bought last year, and a rear quarter window rubber seal I purchased today. The rubber won't stay on at all. U guys need better counter guys. He gave the wrong starter bushing and gave me the 2 wromg rubbers for my 1960 bug rubber kit. Took some type 1 arms in as cores that some other shop sold me. They weren't in great shape so they told me they would have their guy look at it and he would decide if they were good as cores or not but not to get my hopes up. A few months later I had completely forgotten about it until a credit showed up from them on my statement. Good old school shop and very helpful people there. I had ordered some items for my brother. He has a 1973 Volkswagen supper bettle parts didn't fit So we had to ship them back it cost $47.86. Through ups my brother ended up with stage 4 colon cancer and linning of his stomach his intestinal cancer.He had 3 surgery and chemo for the last almost 14 months. I called a half-dozen or more parts places to see if they could help me restore my VW Bus. Some where helpful and others didn't seem to want to give me the time of day. So I called SoCal Imports and they told me to come down. I live in Las Vegas so driving down to LA was a bit of an issue, but I thought to myself why not and drove down to meet them. Andy and Dan gave me the best service you could ask for. They gave me the right advice (which was more than appreciated) since I am relatively new to the VW scene. My engine guy had the wrong cam and Andy pointed that out right away. So that alone, saved me so many headaches you wouldn't believe. Then I wasn't given the right advice on the front disc brake kit, Andy and Dan stepped in again and told me the right thing to do. I can go over so many things that SoCal help me with, but I would be writing for a long time. Bottom line and moral of the story is, SoCal, Andy and Dave all help me in so many ways which helped me and my company save money and make unnecessary mistakes with bad advice. I highly recommended them for all your VW needs. They go above and beyond to make sure every customer is treated as a friend, and they give you real honest advice. I have a very strange mailing address. It's hard to get the "shipping" section in a web checkout to work because it usually says address isn't valid. If I choose fedex and fedex tries to use Smartpost and forward to the post office it will be weeks before I end up getting it. That's how it is with UPS too. Amazon generally says they can't ship to my address, but sometimes I can get it to work. Trying to get something that's been shipped DHL is a nightmare. I had DHL return the same shipment to the sender 3 times for insufficient address. It ended up being weeks before I ever saw that box. All this because my address is not in the USPS database. It really sucks. However, miraculously, I can place an order with SoCal Imports and receive my parts in about 5 days. I honestly don't care about who has what at what price - I just want my stuff. SoCal Imports web site accepts all my info and lets me place an order, and I actually get my delivery from them in record time - 3 times now. That's amazing where I live. Really, if people would pay attention to detail and ship exactly how I specify it's not an issue. SoCal pays attention to detail - they must - I get my stuff. I purchased a set of stainless door sills for my 1962 VW Beetle. I received them without any hardware which was CLEARLY on their website. I went out and purchased some screws to install them. Once installed, I shut my door and the door and/or seal smashed the new door sill at the front edge. Come to find out, the door sill in the Beetle tapers from 1 1/4 to 3/4 inches. These door sills I ordered were 1 1/4 without a taper. I called and spoke to Andy about the situation and he never compensated me in any way. No return, no credit, just a half hour conversation about how he has never come across such a problem. I sent him pics and no reply. Anyhow I ordered a set from Wolfsburg West and they fit like a glove and yes, they are tapered to fit. Oh, yeah...they come with hardware for the install! will never order from So Cal Imports again. I have ordered thousands dollars in parts from Wolfsburg West and have always been satisfied! read more
