We finally made it to Snug Harbor for lunch today. The weather was horrible but we had an appointment that took us out anyway so we stopped in to try the place out. And damn! It was so good that there are about 6 other items I want to try. We both had French Onion soup to start and it was pretty good. I'm definitely going to order it again. I had steak and frites - very tasty- the frites were worth eating every last one. My wife had Croque Madame sandwich - that was good too. The kettle chips that came with it are also worth eating every last one too. Service was outstanding and friendly.

Typically, I try to rate an overall rather than break down each individual aspect, but as you will see there were some wildly varying factors. Service: Nick - 5 stars. He was kind, efficient, and attentive. We made a reservation and were seated quickly. Ambiance: 4/5 - The ambiance was charming. Darker, quieter (they also weren't super busy at 6 on a Saturday which was surprising), and had tasteful decor. We sat next to the fireplace which was so lovely and warm. Beverages: They either jigger or short pour. Mine was tasty but needed a few more sips, his was interesting, but I would have expected his to come in a pint, vs a modified high ball (approx. 6oz with ice?) Food: Here's where it kind of fell apart. We ordered the bread plate (1/5) because I had gotten pasta as a main dish and it isn't served with any bread. Focaccia was good, but the pumpkin was burnt. Pumpkin isn't something I normally would eat, so I am letting his ranking stand. Also, wasn't a fan of either butter. He ordered the fish and chips (1/5) and the batter was definitely inedibly undercooked on the second piece. He picked out the fish from inside. The fries were standard. The pea stuff was interesting. I didn't mind it, but definitely didn't need a whole soup cup full. I tried the other piece of his cod and it was fine. My entree was the Seafood Tomato Alfredo. I'd say a heavy 4/5. Typically, I don't eat red sauce, and this was a very medium orange. My only complaint is that it could have used a teaspoon of sugar to cut the bitterness (as a person who doesn't eat red sauce). If you do, this is probably a 5/5 for you. The seafood pieces were plentiful and large, and the pasta perfect. Overall the food came quickly and was a generous portion. However, we probably won't be back to try it again as he was quite unsatisfied and would probably rate his entire experience a 1/5. For me, I'd give it another shot, but for the money, if we want a nicer dinner we would probably find somewhere else.

Really nice views and fun to sit out and soak it all in! We had a reservation for a Saturday dinner on a busy holiday weekend, but nicely got seated on the top floor patio at a table closest to the water. Loved the spot! Food was good, not spectacular, but definitely hit the spot. We ordered: - Grand Haven Sushi Roll (tuna, salmon, cucumber, carrot, chive, ginger sake aioli) - Calamari (with roasted red pepper romesco) - Seabass with Potato in a Spanish tomato broth, tarragon chive oil, lemon - Side of Roasted Broccolini I loved the flavor of the sea bass dish, light, garlicky, herby. Thought the fish might have been a touch overcooked. Calamari was great, generous portion and super crispy, salty, with a unique dipping sauce. The broccolini was pretty plain (under seasoned and some parts fairly tough) but honestly it served its function which was that we really wanted to get in some veg, and appreciated how much of it we got. Sushi was good, the fish itself tasted fresh. I also tried a spicy tequila cocktail which was pleasant and refreshing. Actually pretty spicy with thick slices of jalapeños soaking in the drink (which I liked!) but not very strong. Will say it was very sunny the day we went though which meant it got pretty toasty! I had a scarf draped over my shoulders and arms for a bit of extra sun protection (and lots of sunscreen), but did see others around me getting a little burnt over the course of their meal. From the food alone (and considering cost), plus the heat, I'd say this is maybe a 3.5, but the views and overall ambiance definitely added to the experience too!

What a great place with a view. Right next to the water and down from the Grand Haven pier. Perfect place to watch the sunset. The menu is pricey but the food was amazing. I purchased the ele roll and my father had the hamburger. Everything was delicious and service was prompt and friendly

Treated my parents to dinner for their 45th wedding anniversary. We were a larger party with a toddler. All of us agreed the food was outstanding and the views were amazing and added to the whole experience. Our servers were attentive and the food came out promptly and all orders were both fresh and delicious.

Went here for dinner last night after walking the boardwalk. There appeared to be seating outside on the patios, but we were placed inside. As the host was walking us to our table, we noticed that it had not been cleaned and reset from the previous customers. As the host hurriedly tried to clean it, he ended up just pushing all of the food/crumbs onto our chairs. We would have preferred to wait an extra 5 minutes to be sat than get placed at a dirty table. After we sat down, it took about 8-10 minutes for our server to come to our table. While he was nice, he was very unorganized. He only asked 3/4 of us what we wanted to drink before walking away, and he never put in our appetizer order. He got food orders quickly, and the wait time for food was short. Everything tasted good, but there was hair found in the little cups of coleslaw they give alongside the fish and chips. Makes me question the cleanliness of the kitchen. Additionally, our server stopped by 5 minutes into our meal and asked if we needed anything, so we asked for salt and pepper shakers. Before he brought them over, our meals were nearly complete. For the food and service you receive, did not feel worth $122. Definitely paying for the view and location.

4/5 for my food, 3/5 for waitservice and a few other aspects, so this is an average 3/5 for me. We've been staying in Grand Haven at a VRBO this weekend and were looking for something for dinner. I suggested Snug Harbor even though I've never been, because it's right on the water. There are two patios, one at top and one on bottom, and also indoor seating. Each one has it's own host stand, I believe. We ended up eating at the patio on top. I had a caramel cheesecake martini, which was delicious, and a Thai salad with crispy chicken, which was also good - similar to Panera's Asian chicken salad. My fiance had a Thai shrimp dish and our friends had a chicken Thai dish and fish and chips. The fish and chips were apparently burnt and our waitress realized it at the end and took it off their bill, which was great customer service. Waitservice was okay but a bit slow. Prices were also high but you're paying for the view; my salad would've been $19 without chicken and that's pretty expensive, it was like $26-27 with chicken I think. Cocktails actually weren't too overpriced, about $13 each. Overall I'd return here but mostly for the view.

The atmosphere was wonderful. We sat at a 2 top bar booth. The menu has many great choices. Beef Wellington was amazing & plenty to eat I had the Scallops, seared perfectly served on a delicious Butternut Squash Risotto. Great Martini & good wine. That should tell you if you haven't tried snug harbor, you might want to to seriously consider it. Tonight is the night for sea bass. Of course I ordered oysters on the half shell. I prefer the east coast oyster. You will notice two different servers. Everyone is great!

Meal and service were excellent. Husband had the short ribs and I had the seafood pasta. Views were amazing, we sat on upper deck then walked to the light, fountain and music display.

About a half hour wait when they are busy, but worth the wait. There is parking down the road (15 min walk) for $10. Great view of the Grand River. Great for people watching. Good service. The food was very good and good sized portions. The world's hugest soft pretzels. read more

Had guests in from Minnesota and we suggested Snug on a Sunday evening dinner with a view of the water. The poor server had absolutely no clue what he was doing, make multiple mistakes with our food order. The food arrived very late and not all at the same time. The patio would go from ice cold to hotter than the Sahara- the explanation given that they can't control the overhead heaters. Food was average and the service way below average and the prices way above the value received . I was embarrassed that we brought our guests there. read more

We had a disappointing experience. Despite having a reservation, we had to wait an additional 20 minutes past our scheduled time. When we were finally seated, it was at a makeshift table formed by two mismatched tables at different heights. I ordered the $32 chicken, and the portion I received was barely larger than a chicken tender. To make matters worse, several tables seated after us received their food before we did. A large party of 12 was seated uncomfortably close to us, and we could hear every word of their conversation. I'm so thankful Pronto Pups was nearby so I could have a real meal afterward. We're customers of 28-29 years. The summer season just started and I'm not sure we'll be back. The service has been consistently good. The quality of the food has been on a consistent free fall for the last few years. I ordered a blackened jerk chicken wrap- sparse in the chicken dept, tasted like regular chicken. My cocktail was tiny, smaller than in the past. My wife's burrito was horrible- it didn't look like a wet burrito, and while it hinted at the smell of Mexican food, it didn't taste like a wet burrito. An boring unimaginative menu. No veggie burger? No nachos on the menu? No mussels? No sushi on the deck? Snug has been a fun place to go for years. I think they've given up. Total disappointment. If I'm going to spend $50+ on a dinner, I'll go somewhere else. read more

The food was good. The service was good. But buyer beware of their policies. We made a reservation for 14 people and put down a deposit which seemed reasonable since it's summer they're busy and we were a big table. The very unreasonable part was that deposit was not taken off of our bill! We showed up on time we spent a lot of money. We asked to speak to the manager and that's their policy so if you give them extra money, don't expect to get it back. Disappointing read more

Ok. The food was excellent. The service was excellent. We made a reservation and was told that they need to charge $40 for the reservation. So we charged $40 to our card to hold the reservation. We showed up on time, ate, drank, had a good time, but when we got our bill, they didn't give us our $40 or take it off the bill or anything. They just kept it. We talked to the manager asking if we could at least add it to the tip but he insisted that our $40 was theirs now. Our server felt bad and tried to give us $20 to make up for it, but we insisted that the tip was his, we just wanted our $40 that they charged to hold the rez. Diabolical. No reason for it. Only make a reservation to this place if you have money you can throw away. read more

We had a great experience at this restaurant. My husband and parents went here on a Sunday. We got there right when they opened at 11:30 and there was already a huge line. The menu is small but has something to offer for everyone. The food was good and staff super friendly and prompt. My husband and I split the Cesar salad and club sandwich and it was more than enough food for the two of us! Dishes and drinks are on the pricier side, but the view and atmosphere make it worth it. It was so fun sitting up on the hill with the view of the lake inlet and boats. An overall great experience! read more

I've come here for lunch on 3 separate occasions and have eaten out on the deck each time. The first time I had a chicken burrito, the second time I had the southwest salad, and yesterday I had the perch sandwich. I enjoyed all 3 options and I've got a photo of the perch sandwich here (I added fries for a small up-charge) - don't mind the shadows from being outside. I was surprised at how large the portion was - a pleasant surprise! I will definitely be back! read more

I always love dining with a view :) We started out with the nachos supreme with ground beef. When you're on vacation calories don't count! The nachos were a solid choice. The cheese was perfectly layered between the chips, plenty of seasoned beef with sour cream & pico de gallo on the side. We did get some guac to go with the nachos and although it was tasty and chunky, the $3 bucks seemed a bit high for the amount you get. Even though the nachos were very filling, we did fit in another course. He went with the Mojo salad and I ordered the mussels. Great garlic, butter & white wine sauce to dip the crostinis in. Lots of fun choices to choose from on the menu and I would certainly go back. read more

We stopped here to watch the sunset while we ate dinner. I had the Miso Mahi Orzo. It was delicious. Everybody enjoyed their meal and we returned for desert after a short walk to the lighthouse. It was a delightful evening. read more

Location location location! This is fabulous! On the deck over looking the channel. Close walk to down town GH. Quick service and real busy. Friendly waiting staff $$$$ pricey small portions. Good drinks chicken burrito great, not to excited about the Sushi not to good, atmosphere is nice. Parking awful like there is none ! Nevertheless it was good ! read more

Instead of waiting an hour for outdoor seating we decided to sit inside. The inside is a little old looking and outdated but was clean. The service was not great however the food and drinks were. The jerk chicken bowl was fresh with lots of flavor. I personally had the chicken quesadilla and really enjoyed it. Our seat had a great view looking at the channel and walkway. We'd go again however would opt for outdoor seating. read more

My wife and I live in Grand Haven and don't eat out a lot. When we do choose to eat out we really appreciate good service and good food. In the past month long-time friends from Cincinnati, and separately Scottsdale, came to visit. None of our guests had been to Grand Haven before and were only here for a day. Both times we chose to take them to Snug Harbor and Jelly's. They were thrilled with the food and the service was great. A couple of the friends love Sushi, about which I know very little. They were blown away with the quality and portions they were served. They added Jelly's to their list of favorite places to get excellent Sushi. I want to thank the General Manager who went out of her way to accommodate our small group on short notice. I would also like to offer a special mention to Jordan, our server. read more

A-Ok in almost every way. Just average. But the view of the boats bouncing along the river on a sunny day? That's pure Michigan. Come for the drinks; stay for the view. This place is quite busy on a warm day when everyone wants to dine on the deck. The deck is elevated a full floor from the ground, offering a prime lookout to enjoy the water view. I don't think there are many other restaurants in Grand Haven that sit this close to the water. The outdoor space is large and we didn't have to wait more than a few minutes for a table. Shade, however, is not the best. Bring sunglasses! Shortly after being seated near the edge, we asked our server if we could move to a shadier spot in the center. This seemed to throw a wrench in the grand seating plan as our server had to talk to two other employees to accommodate us, but we eventually got to move out of the direct sun. We all ordered craft beers which come in their bottles ($4-6 each). We didn't try the food, although what I saw looked good and well-portioned. read more

The Bad--Food was meh. Not horrible just not that great. Prices are high considering the quality of the food. Lobster roll definitely not worth the price. This is the 2nd or 3rd time we have had a terrible experience here. The hostess at Jelly's told us 15-20 minutes and seemed annoyed we were there for dinner. There were two open tables and she wouldn't clean them off to get us seated. Look. If you come from a major metro area, Chicago, Grand Rapids or Detroit. Do not order the sushi. It's terrible. The rice is hard. The rolls are very small and very basic. When you pay $13 per roll you expect a premium specialty roll and that is not the case here at all. The staff is inexperienced in the menu. The rating of 1 star is deserved. read more
