The service was wonderful. We called ahead to inquire about a wait at it was a Friday, he suggested a time, but could not place us on the list (call ahead). We took his advice and walked in and were seated immediately. Immediately, I was given quaint, New England vibes. There's a charming fireplace, low warm lighting, linen tablecloths, gold chandeliers, and no TVs in sight. The staff was knowledgeable, efficient, and prepared (both host and server). The food was incredible. We ordered the tenderloin steak tips medium rare and were so impressed. The soups were both delicious, and the main courses perfect. I couldn't have asked for a better experience, except that I walked in without knowing the vibe to dress appropriately (I wore nice jeans, a sparkly blouse and a faux leather jacket, not terrible, but not the right fit). There were many elderly dressed in a slacks and nice sweater vibe (we visited in October). We had a lovely dinner here! I emailed days ahead because we have dietary concerns (plant-based for health issues/allergies) and Chef Jason was in touch with me immediately. He offered delicious solutions and even checked back the day of our reservation in order to alert our server. Going above and beyond anything we may have anticipated, we were presented with a small personalized menu! Everything prepared for us was exceptional. Bruschetta stuffed portobellos topped with plant-based cheese and drizzled with Balsamic vinegar and a marvelous pesto tossed penne with vegetables. We eat at The Arboreal two or three times a month. I have never had a bad meal. Their waitstaff is excellent. The decor is understated elegance. In the winter the restaurant looks lovely snuggled in woodsy snow. The small plate dinners on Monday through Thursday are just the right amount for those with smaller appetites. I just could not help myself without giving my review of last night dinner at Arboreal Inn. It is a special place, which seems to be lacking in the Muskegon area. We ordered the Surf and Turf, which was served to perfection. Loved it. All the servers are very professional and nice. We have eaten several times in the past two months at the Arboreal. The servers have usually been pleasant. The menu provides several tasty dishes. But the menu is very limited for dairy sensitive persons, For example all of the potato choices are heavy on dairy. When we asked for a plain potato without dairy, the server became grumpy and said no. When I commented to the host when I left, about providing dairy free options, he was rude, as though this was an unreasonable request. There was no discussion of possible options, so I guess I will not return. read more

Food was great. Service was so so. Server lost my credit card. We were a group of two couples and we asked to have two separate checks. Server couldn't handle it. I was charged for things the other couple ordered and vis-a-versa. My wife was wearing a jacket with the collar up and another server came up behind her and turned it down without asking. Fantastic place. If you are looking for amazing decor, look somewhere else. If you are looking for amazing food, this is your spot. We got NY Strip, Surf and Turf and Ribeye. Everything was amazing. The filet that was in the surf and turf was ordered rare and was perfectly cooked. The NY Strip was ordered medium and cooked properly. Both steaks had great flavor. The lobster tail was cooked to perfection, overcooking the tail can be an issue, but not here. The ribeye was cooked medium rare and probably had the best flavor. Do NOT pass go on the bruschetta, it is fantastic. The calamari was a little overcooked, but still good. Our server was very attentive to our wants and never missed our water glasses. Had our 30th Anniversary here today (September 16, 2023). First time ever to this place. It is, without any doubt, fine dinning and relaxing. It was fantastic. Saturday reservation was easy to get only 2 days in advance. Michelle, our server, was excellent and helpful with local area tips and menu suggestions. Wife had the two lobster tails, I had the scalops from feature menu. They were both excellent. I'm only sorry I had no room for desert as that menu looked good indeed. Service, food, and ambiance were excellent yet resonable pricing. Even though very busy the restaurant has excellent acoustics and it was very easy to talk and hear my wife. We were seated in the bar area for our dinner and listened to martinis being shaken all night, traffic going back and forth to the dining room from the servers, loud cooks in the kitchen and lots of chatter from the hostess stand. I've had wonderful meals at this place in "the good old days," but my most recent encounter was unsatisfactory. As a bad start, my bread plate was visibly dirty. I'm not sure how a server wouldn't notice that when setting the table, but it was a real turn off. I ordered a Cesar salad to start. It was not authentic. It had tomatoes, and cucumber. For my entre, I had the chicken picatta. I was rubbery and the sauce had soaked into the breading and created a plate of chicken-in-mud. The sauce was dark (almost like they made a mistake and served a Marsalla) and, the taste was awful! Yuck! Nice atmosphere and a pretty place, though. I hope this visit was just a fluke. read more

Beautiful place. Got right in on Sat night with short notice. Seated promptly, nice table. Service went downhill from there. Served kept disappearing, between taking drink order & food order, between taking food order & bringing bread, 15 minutes for 3 bowls of lobster bisque. We were starving after a long busy day and a long drive home ahead. It took 1.5 hours for soup and two appetizers. It was ridiculous. Lobster bisque was good, interesting; seemed to have chervil in it. I asked but of course she didn't know and even though I asked her to find out, she didn't. Crab-stuffed mushrooms were merely ok. Mussels were good. The bread rolls were actually the best part of the meal. Server was pleasant but just incredibly inefficient. I guess if we were a couple on a leisurely, romantic date with nothing else to do, we wouldn't have minded but as if was , it was horrible and frustrating, and embarrassing for me after talking my friends into going based on all the great reviews. An excellent spot in the Spring Lake area! My boyfriend and I were staying nearby for a weekend lake trip and ended up ordering from here twice because it was so great. The staff was also very friendly and made the carry-out process easy. We ordered the lobster ravioli and the seafood scampi, both of which were amazing! We were six at the table last night, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their selections, from dinner salads (Michigan Cherry, Wedge and Ceasar) to the entrees, of whitefish and various filets. One of the filets was served with a Lobster tail. Some groused at the up charges for Asparagus in lieu of the house vegetable, but my husband and I love it, and were willing to go for it! It was prepared perfectly, as were, more importantly, our entrees. The appetizer of Smoked Whitefish dip, came with flavorful seeded crackers...and lots of them. It was delicate, yet flavorful, and complimented by the capers. Even the bread basket offered interesting choices, such as molasses berry sweet dark bread, and crispy warm dinner rolls. There was no room for dessert, but no regrets. Ambience was warm, good acoustics and nice touch with the fireplace on the eastern wall. It is not the updated, hip vibe one might be seeking in urban innovative eateries, but we felt welcomed, comfortable, and extremely satisfied with the experience. The level of talent in the kitchen is not to be overlooked. The menu is extensive, but apparently the chef knows what he's doing, and hopefully not much is put to waste (just read about the amount lost to unused rations in the restaurant industry). We will definitely return to this gem in the woods, and hope others will venture out too. It's been a tough year for them/everyone in the business, and limiting capacity doesn't help. Our first time here. All four of us ordered the same Pasta dish. After that our server NEVER came back to our table. Others delivered our food. No one came back to our table to see if everything was ok. No one ever came back to see if we wanted another drink. No one refilled our water glasses, we finally asked another server for more water. A man was walking around so we got his attention and told him everything, especially how OUR server spent two different times "chattinging" at another table to a couple for about 15 minutes each time!!!
