If you have a family, do not even bother. This place is NOT family friendly. We arrived with our two children and infant and were told we couldn't bring our stroller onto the deck, so we went back to the car and carried our baby in the car seat instead. Yet we immediately saw another family dining with a stroller, and on our way out there was literally a lineup of strollers near the entrance. There also isn't a changing table, so I had to go back to the car just to change our infant. The food was equally disappointing and extremely overpriced. The calamari portion was tiny, my fish was soggy with the batter falling off and cold fries, and my daughter's sweet-and-sour chicken was mostly batter. My husband ordered a 20-ounce ribeye well done and received what was essentially a medium-rare steak. Our server, Jordan, brought the issue to the manager, Amanda, who only discounted the improperly cooked steak by 50%. When my husband asked to speak with Amanda, we were told she was "too busy" to come to our table. Jordan even commented that there were "a bunch of high schoolers in the kitchen." For the prices they charge, the food, service, and management were incredibly disappointing. Easily one of the worst dining experiences we've had. We will not be back. read more

Beyond disappointed in this place. I can not believe this place has 4.5 stars. We are foodies, and love good food, we don't mind if it costs a little extra. So when a place has 4.5 stars, and a steak costs you $70, you expect 4.5 star dish at the bare minimum. We had 5 diners, and all our meals were terrible. I got sushi, and the rice was old, the shrimp also tasted like it had been refrigerated for over a week. The espresso martini is not what you expect, terrible drinks all around too. I don't like to throw restaurants under the bus like this, but when I tell you this is the worst place we have EVER eaten at, I mean it. The 4.5 stars is really misleading and I just want to help someone else know what to truly expect. I can not speak for the brunch menu, maybe that is different, but it just felt like a huge waste of our money. read more

Was ok, nice atmosphere but definitely overpriced for what it was. Food was fine enough but nothing exciting. They served wine in plastic cups (not sure if it's a rule about be near the water but still). When I went they didn't have any draft beer only bottles(I think they do have draft most of the time). Also they charge a 3% fee just "because" which was a little annoying on top of their already over priced menu. If you just want a place with a nice view and good atmosphere this place is great but for taste and value try elsewhere. read more

The Thai salad came loaded with vegetables and tasted healthy. For dessert, we shared the tiramisu. Just like the salad this was good but not memorable. As one person in our party said "you don't come here for the food". Server was great. Three of us got burgers, we all agreed that they used frozen patties that were low quality. At almost $20 hard pass. One person got the chicken caesar wrap and complained about the lack of chicken. Quality here was better last year. Typically, I try to rate an overall rather than break down each individual aspect, but as you will see there were some wildly varying factors. Service: Nick - 5 stars. He was kind, efficient, and attentive. We made a reservation and were seated quickly. Ambiance: 4/5 - The ambiance was charming. Darker, quieter (they also weren't super busy at 6 on a Saturday which was surprising), and had tasteful decor. We sat next to the fireplace which was so lovely and warm. Beverages: They either jigger or short pour. Mine was tasty but needed a few more sips, his was interesting, but I would have expected his to come in a pint, vs a modified high ball (approx. 6oz with ice?) Food: Here's where it kind of fell apart. We ordered the bread plate (1/5) because I had gotten pasta as a main dish and it isn't served with any bread. Focaccia was good, but the pumpkin was burnt. Pumpkin isn't something I normally would eat, so I am letting his ranking stand. Also, wasn't a fan of either butter. He ordered the fish and chips (1/5) and the batter was definitely inedibly undercooked on the second piece. He picked out the fish from inside. The fries were standard. The pea stuff was interesting. I didn't mind it, but definitely didn't need a whole soup cup full. I tried the other piece of his cod and it was fine. My entree was the Seafood Tomato Alfredo. I'd say a heavy 4/5. Typically, I don't eat red sauce, and this was a very medium orange. My only complaint is that it could have used a teaspoon of sugar to cut the bitterness (as a person who doesn't eat red sauce). If you do, this is probably a 5/5 for you. The seafood pieces were plentiful and large, and the pasta perfect. Overall the food came quickly and was a generous portion. However, we probably won't be back to try it again as he was quite unsatisfied and would probably rate his entire experience a 1/5. For me, I'd give it another shot, but for the money, if we want a nicer dinner we would probably find somewhere else. read more

I haven't been here in years. Prices are insanely high compared to what they used to charge. Also, food quality is marginal. One would think if you double your prices food quality would improve. Also, ordered a mixed drink for $17, I don't believe there was any vodka in my drink. Our server was good and the view is outstanding so I gave 2 stars. Super disappointed with food and drink. Nice place! The workers were very nice and attentive and overall just very sweet! We did unfortunately get sat right with the sun in our eyes, but it was still a nice view. I asked for no onions on my burger and they put some on, but it wasn't bad because I could just scrape them off. The burger was very good otherwise! We've been to Snug Harbor over the past years and always look forward to our visit as you can't get a better location overlooking the channel. On July 4, my husband, son and I were seated on the deck at a corner table which had a great view. Good so far. Service was fine and our waiter was pleasant....no worries there. However, we received our drinks which were quite light on the vodka and heavy on the tonic.....strike one. The menu has changed considerably to feature more Asian dishes which seems odd for the harbor location. That should have been a clue. Needless to say, the food was just okay and, considering the prices, unacceptable. My salmon was cooked Okay, but swimming in some broth or juice flowing from the spinach that should have been broccoli. My son's fish and chips looked okay. My husband ordered General Tso's chicken and said it was nothing special. It appears to me that this has become a place where you now go for drinks and the view. Also, ordered wine with my meal and it was served in a plastic cup......seriously! If you decide to eat there, stick with something safe like a hamburger and maybe a bottled beer worthy of many snack shacks on the water.....strike two! To top this off, we shared the tiramisu only to find a ton of matcha caked on top. Costco could do better. Strike three you're out! We noticed the locals must have gotten the word as this place should have been packed on July 4 and was emptying out. Sadly we will not be returning. read more

We finally made it to Snug Harbor for lunch today. The weather was horrible but we had an appointment that took us out anyway so we stopped in to try the place out. And damn! It was so good that there are about 6 other items I want to try. We both had French Onion soup to start and it was pretty good. I'm definitely going to order it again. I had steak and frites - very tasty- the frites were worth eating every last one. My wife had Croque Madame sandwich - that was good too. The kettle chips that came with it are also worth eating every last one too. Service was outstanding and friendly. read more

Really nice views and fun to sit out and soak it all in! We had a reservation for a Saturday dinner on a busy holiday weekend, but nicely got seated on the top floor patio at a table closest to the water. Loved the spot! Food was good, not spectacular, but definitely hit the spot. We ordered: - Grand Haven Sushi Roll (tuna, salmon, cucumber, carrot, chive, ginger sake aioli) - Calamari (with roasted red pepper romesco) - Seabass with Potato in a Spanish tomato broth, tarragon chive oil, lemon - Side of Roasted Broccolini I loved the flavor of the sea bass dish, light, garlicky, herby. Thought the fish might have been a touch overcooked. Calamari was great, generous portion and super crispy, salty, with a unique dipping sauce. The broccolini was pretty plain (under seasoned and some parts fairly tough) but honestly it served its function which was that we really wanted to get in some veg, and appreciated how much of it we got. Sushi was good, the fish itself tasted fresh. I also tried a spicy tequila cocktail which was pleasant and refreshing. Actually pretty spicy with thick slices of jalapeños soaking in the drink (which I liked!) but not very strong. Will say it was very sunny the day we went though which meant it got pretty toasty! I had a scarf draped over my shoulders and arms for a bit of extra sun protection (and lots of sunscreen), but did see others around me getting a little burnt over the course of their meal. From the food alone (and considering cost), plus the heat, I'd say this is maybe a 3.5, but the views and overall ambiance definitely added to the experience too! read more

Went here for dinner last night after walking the boardwalk. There appeared to be seating outside on the patios, but we were placed inside. As the host was walking us to our table, we noticed that it had not been cleaned and reset from the previous customers. As the host hurriedly tried to clean it, he ended up just pushing all of the food/crumbs onto our chairs. We would have preferred to wait an extra 5 minutes to be sat than get placed at a dirty table. After we sat down, it took about 8-10 minutes for our server to come to our table. While he was nice, he was very unorganized. He only asked 3/4 of us what we wanted to drink before walking away, and he never put in our appetizer order. He got food orders quickly, and the wait time for food was short. Everything tasted good, but there was hair found in the little cups of coleslaw they give alongside the fish and chips. Makes me question the cleanliness of the kitchen. Additionally, our server stopped by 5 minutes into our meal and asked if we needed anything, so we asked for salt and pepper shakers. Before he brought them over, our meals were nearly complete. For the food and service you receive, did not feel worth $122. Definitely paying for the view and location. read more

Had dinner with our friends last night at Snug Harbor. As always, the view is excellent view iof the channel all the way out to Lake Michigan! The menu has changed drastically and does not meet expectations. My wife and I decided to share the lobster sandwich. The waitress knew that we were going to do that and did not warn us that the sandwich itself is tiny and would not be enough to share. Not to mention that it is overpriced for what you receive. Actually went home after dinner and made additional food as the portion was a joke. We are very disappointed in Snug Harbor and have been loyal customers for over 25 years. I'm afraid that that is going to stop as the value is not there anymore and if I want an outstanding view and overpriced food I can go to Noto's on Lake Michigan! read more

4/5 for my food, 3/5 for waitservice and a few other aspects, so this is an average 3/5 for me. We've been staying in Grand Haven at a VRBO this weekend and were looking for something for dinner. I suggested Snug Harbor even though I've never been, because it's right on the water. There are two patios, one at top and one on bottom, and also indoor seating. Each one has it's own host stand, I believe. We ended up eating at the patio on top. I had a caramel cheesecake martini, which was delicious, and a Thai salad with crispy chicken, which was also good - similar to Panera's Asian chicken salad. My fiance had a Thai shrimp dish and our friends had a chicken Thai dish and fish and chips. The fish and chips were apparently burnt and our waitress realized it at the end and took it off their bill, which was great customer service. Waitservice was okay but a bit slow. Prices were also high but you're paying for the view; my salad would've been $19 without chicken and that's pretty expensive, it was like $26-27 with chicken I think. Cocktails actually weren't too overpriced, about $13 each. Overall I'd return here but mostly for the view. read more
