Finally got to stop by to check out the Snuff Mill Restaurant, Butchery & Wine Bar. It is incredible! Hyper local fare, artfully presented, and absolutely delicious. Chef Robert is the real deal!! For an appetzier I had the CARPET BAGGER, Flash-fried local oyster, shaved filet mignon, thick cut bacon, Roquefort cheese, and jalapeño ranch. It's as good as it sounds! I've been dying for a proper burger and their's delivers in spades. Their Signature Beef Burger comes with milion-dollar bacon, sauteed Vidalia onions, quick-pickled red onions, American cheese, dill pickles and special sauce. This is all on a humble sesame seed bun (no brioche necessary to show no tricks up their sleeves). Let's talk about the fries. Proper homemade pomme frites as good as I've had in any eatery in Europe. Light and crispy on the outside and creamy and buttery on the inside. The perfect thickness to hold the heat and the crisp. If you are ever in Wilmington, definitely give the Snuff Mill Restaurant a try. Reservations are recommended. Plan well ahead for dinner. Lunch time is the time if you want to try it out sooner. First time here, everything was outstanding. We started with the roasted organic garlic head, buratta and pork belly bao buns. Entrees consisted of a filet, and two prime ribeyes, all cooked perfectly. We ordered the roasted potatoes and spinach gratin, both outstanding with a ton of flavor. Ended the meal with sticky toffee pudding, a chocolate pot de créeme and an afogato style dessert and espresso martinis. NOT CHILD FRIENDLY Unfortunately the restaurant is not baby/toddler friendly. Called the location after making reservation to advise we required a high chair added to our rsvp. Confirmed no issue and notes made. Furthermore there are high tops and low tops and was shared would assign us to the low Person who answered checked with manager on duty and said "no problem.". Fast forward to 1 hour before rsvp tonight and I receive a call advising they don't have high chairs and if one was secured from a nearby restaurant that we would have to sit outside. Happy Easter Dinner celebration to us! We cancelled and at the last minute seeking a new restaurant to accommodate. Unsure how spending probably $500-700 is acceptable to manage this way. I was craving a nice steak lunch - I was so happily surprised and satisfied. I had steak frites ($32) with fries (they are not skinny fries. It was amazing! Worth every penny! My friend had Turkey Avo in honor of national sandwich day. It comes with a tasty salad and the sandwich was big! ($16). It is small place - so call ahead. Went inside for a Tuesday afternoon lunch. Did not have reservations. They were not busy so did not see this as an issue. Asked for a table. Was greeted by a hostess asking us if we had a reservation and we responded no. She advised us that we had to sit at the bar which is very small with another couple. As we were sitting, we noticed she turned away another couple because they also didn't have a reservation. Very confused when half the restaurant was open. Looked online and it had open reservations for that day at 1pm and it was 12:50. At that point, they seemed too snobby for us. Our first time here after living in Delaware for three years. The service is fantastic from the moment you walk in the door you're treated like a VIP. In my opinion,the way Dining is supposed to be! The staff are helpful and happy and help you choose what to eat or drink if you're not sure what to get. And the food was just fantastic. I'm always disappointed when I order a steak at a restaurant but this was great. I have been buying meat from Snuff Mill since it opened. Yesterday I made veal chops in the Zurich style with mushrooms and cream. It was insanely good. Soon I plan to make a pork schitzel because the pork they sell tastes like somerhing your grandma would have fed you. I am giving Snuff Mill 3 stars because I really enjoyed my food however, the service really deterred me from coming back. My husband and I made a reservation for his birthday. Upon entering the restaurant, there was no host stand to be found. After waiting a few minutes, my husband politely asked one of the waiters where we could check in. She loudly exclaimed that the hostess would be right with us. Come to find out, the hostess had been standing in front of us the entire time, talking to people at the bar. She had seen us come in and simply ignored us. We were then seated however, the seating is entirely too close to other tables. (Especially being in COVID times). It was hard to hear my husband over the conversation of our neighboring table/restaurant. I understand that Snuff Mill is a small establishment trying to utilize space however, the tables are WAY too close for comfort. I am pregnant and asked for a mocktail, our waiter cut me off mid sentence and just said sure. He did not ask what type of drink I was looking for, came off as kind of short/rude. I think Snuff Mill may need to hire some more waitstaff as it seemed that our server was busy. He was running around and sweating like crazy. My husband's chicken entrée was a tad dry but aside from that the food was amazing. If Snuff Mill could better their service/seating arrangement I think I would be more inclined to return. Went to Snuff Mill tonight and was very excited to try it out after it being recommended by a physician I work with. Unfortunately, I can whole heartedly say I won't be back! The food was very good and the waitstaff was very accommodating. However...completely disappointed by the arrogance of the owner. To say he was rude is an understatement. Reservation was at 5, went up to the door a whopping 9 MINUTES early. As I got to the door he opened it to let someone out then proceeded to shut it in my face while I was speaking. It was obvious my elderly mother was standing with me, but this "gentleman" continued to close the door in our faces while repeating "5 o'clock" over and over. I feel like an idiot for even staying. One poor review may mean nothing to this business, but treating paying customers so despicably can guarantee myself as well as others will NOT return or recommend. We visited this restaurant for the first time last Friday night. What an amazing and different food experience. The restaurant is part industrial with a touch of Joanna Gaines thrown in. We ordered ice tea and it came freshly brewed with the tea bag visible. An individual tea pitcher was placed on the table so you could refill whenever you needed to.For those who prefer wine they have an extensive wine list. Michael our waiter was both knowledgeable and attentive. He suggested splitting the caesar salad which was good advice since as a single serving it was huge. We had the lobster gnocchi and it was absolutely amazing. For dessert we had the chocolate cake with the caramel sauce which was delicious. The music is perfect to dine by-you hear but not overwhelming. We missed coffee with dessert as they only serve an expresso and I don't do caffeine. First time here and I can definitely say it won't be my last. My entree was phenomenal, my drink was amazing and the attention from staff was top-notch. My water was refilled consistently and our waiter was wonderfully attentive but not a pain ( you don't want someone rushing you thru your meal). I shared the large sirloin and gnocchi with my daughter and truthfully cannot say which one I liked better. Both were fabulous with my steak cooked to perfection and the gnocchi crispy with a delicious breadcrumb coating. Unusual and very yummy For appetizers we ordered the charcuterie board and two salads and while there were five of us, we weren't able to finish them. Sometimes when you go to an upscale restaurant they skimp on portions but this was definitely not the case. Although I had licked my platter clean and was full, I went on to order dessert which was another home run. A very interesting berry and cream concoction served on a soft biscuit. I believe it was the special of the day. Another yum! North Wilmington needs more interesting places like this to eat and I hope the owners will consider opening up another spot. If you haven't tried it, do yourself a favor and make a reservation. You won't regret it. I'm already contemplating my next visit! read more
