Each quarter, I purchase 3 bottles of my choice and receive discounts on other purchases and invites to exclusive events (Member Day is a must!). While their outdoor space is an excellent feature during warmer weather, I wanted to highlight their winter weekend offerings, which involve various food pairings offered in their cute indoor space (by reservation only!!) My most recent experience was their Wine and Cheese Pairing, which is featured every January. Each year, they curate a combination of local cheese and either honey/jam to pair with their wines, and every year, it's a hit. My favorite pairing this year involved their Pinot Rose, a delicious cheddar, and an orange ginger honey that was absolutely delightful. I wanted to include a visit to a winery during my weekend stay near Chadds Ford and after doing my research, I decided on Penns Woods Winery. I ordered a flight ,$18 which came with a souvenir glass. The waitress described each of the 5 wines in the flight. The flight included white, rose and red varieties. I enjoyed each of the wines but didn't find any of them exceptional. I ordered the buffalo chicken dip which came with crusty bread drizzled with olive oil. It was tasty. While I was there the sun began to set and the view was beautiful. I sat inside but there is a large lawn where you could enjoy the view. There was a hay maze for autumn on the property when I was there. The winery was quite busy during my visit and they were preparing for a private event. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. They have a wine club. The staff here are friendly and they know wine. We did a flight and the price was very reasonable for a tasting of 5 sample pours. Lovely variety that went from moderate to dry with a mix of white, rose, and red. We've been here previously for a wine tasting which was nice so I booked a wine, cheese, and honey pairing tasting. The service was excellent and our waitress gave a great description of the pairings and how to conduct the tasting. They give you (4) pairings and a moscato as a dessert. Except for the seating this time (see note below), I found the whole experience enjoyable and a great way to spend a block of time before heading out to dinner or just lazing away the afternoon. You can taste at your own speed but they allow 3 hrs., which I thought was a bit much, but, oddly that was about right. Also, if you like a particular pairing, you can purchase all the items from them. We came home with the Rose , rose honey, and black peppercorn goat cheese which was phenomenal and an unexpected treat. Note: I removed a star because they have high tables so if you can't sit at one they really can't accommodate you. I recently injured my knee and sitting at a high table with my legs dangling since the chair rung was too low (I'm 5'3) wasn't optimal for me. They could not/would not accommodate me so I sat at a high table which was uncomfortable. read more

Very nice place in southeastern PA. Higher end winery with a decent wine and light fare selection. We came on Valentine's weekend and the place was very busy. No tasting bar, just full service tables but the service was great. Decent wine selection. The "tasting" (flight) was a set menu, not sure if that's just for the holiday weekend or if it's normally that way, we much prefer a traditional tasting and interaction with staff about what grapes are used, where they're sourced from etc. Overall very nice location and we would come back if in the area. read more

I had made reservations a month ago for outdoor seating unfortunately the day we were going to come in there would be a high chance of rain. The winery called and offered another time to honor our reservation in the indoor patio area. I gladly accepted since we still all wanted to go. We arrived on time and our table was marked off for us which I appreciated. I've never sat in the indoor patio area before! It's super cute and cozy inside. Our waitresses were great explaining our wine flights (we all got flights) and refilling our glasses. We all had a great time! My friend who is a wine member stopped by and sent over a bottle of their favorite merlot. That was really good. I'm considering being a wine member! This winery is amazing! They have 13 acres of land with vines throughout them. There is cute outdoor seating with fire pits and indoor, covered, patio seating too! They help with engagements, bridal parties and more. The staff is very knowledgeable on the wines, the local products that they sell like cheese/honey/preserves, and it happy to make accommodations to the tasting flights. We absolutely loved the Chardonnay and the reserve Pinot Noir! We also loved the Sharp Cheddar and the Garlic Cheese on the cheese boards. We will definitely be going back. read more

Pleasant environment for drinking wine. We visited Penns Woods Winery on a gorgeous October day. The setting is rustic, but there is plenty of shaded seating available even on full days. On the day we visited, there happened to be a musician playing covers of popular songs as well. We tried the tasting and were pleasantly surprised by the wines presented to us. I'd been meaning to visit this winery for quite a while and I finally had the chance to stop by. I loved the mature, quieter aspects of this experience. The tasting room is cozy and quaint, but elegantly decorated. The staff member who attended to us was exceptionally friendly, and explained the history of the winery and the types of wines they make. She made some excellent recommendations and we were able to explore a good selection of the wine list. Penns Woods specializes in European style wines. While 98% of their grapes are grown on property, these are not your typical Pennsylvania wines. In fact, I would put most of the selections up against European and California makers in a blind taste test. Of note, the Ameritage and Proprietor's Reserve are excellent, European-style offerings - with the former taking a full-bodied, Bordeaux approach. These are wines that will feel right at home over a special meal, during the holidays, or while enjoying a quiet evening in front of the fire place. The Naked Chamburcin (no oak) is perhaps the finest example of this varietal and style to be found in PA. It's light and delicate, but flavorful and can hold its own when paired with poultry or pork. Serve it slightly cooler if you want a nice evening wine during the summer as well. The Pinot Noir is is another excellent option for those who sometimes feel red can be a little heavy. I found this wine to be incredibly silky, maybe slightly heavier than some other offerings, but still an excellent choice, to drink by itself, or with a variety of dishes. I found all the offerings to be consistently smooth, refined, and spritely on the palate. I never came away feeling overpowered by the Reds, or feeling as if they were going to hit on the heavier side. Well balanced from the first sip to the last. I tried eight different wines during my visit and came away, impressed with every single one of them. Admittedly, I am more partial to reds and Penns Woods does an amazing job of crafting quality, dry red wines. If you're someone looking for sweet, jammy wines, this probably isn't going to be your first option. However, if you're looking for mature, elegant, bolder reds, and zesty, dryer whites, this is easily, your best choice in Chester County. In other words, this is not your typical PA winery offering foxier wines at a lower price point. You're going to pay for quality, and at a price point that's a bit closer to some of your handcrafted, California wines, or even those from the top makers in places like Virginia or Washington. However, the wines are certainly worth the slightly higher price point. read more

I love this winery, the customer service is excellent, the choice is a vast and the landscape is beautiful. On a semi-chilly day at the beginning of spring wanna be outside with a great glass of wine and friends. So the sophisticated old Lady gang got together to hang out catch up. This is our first outing in two years. When we arrive at 6 PM wine tasting was complete however the host directed us to the bar samples. We were quite satisfied with the service provided by the young lady whose name I didn't catch but she made great suggestions. There was a new sangria only sold by the glass that had a nice delicate fresh and crisp taste without being too sweet. So the gang got a couple glasses sit down and chat for a while join the scenery. Penns Wood Winery will be a go to place instead of happy hour at a local bar. I will definitely return again with the gang or not because this Winery is very inviting. read more

What a gem. We had two tasting, $18 each. They gave some Generous pours. Very knowledgeable of wine, notes. We then headed out to the grounds to listen to some music and enjoy an excellent vognier reserve which was soo good, the oldest vines on property, planted in the 80's. Anything from 80's is amazing, right?? #haha They have a store outside wheee you can get ice-cream, wine, beer, cheese, meat, nuts etc. The outfood area was vast, they had sunny areas and areas with coverage. We decided to go wine tasting here when we were in Philadelphia from California. Our friend thought we were funny for going wine tasting in Philly when we have so much good wine back home, but we had a really good time. There was an event going on so live music and we got to do a tour of the vineyard. The wine was pretty good, but we decided we didn't need to take any home with us. We had a girls night for st pattys. A fun day to let loose and enjoy time with the girls but the vibes here killed it for me.. Did the cupcake tasting! Our server (brunette hair in a clip, long sleeve under a black tshirt -sorry for forgetting your name) was super informative, smiley and helpful. However, when she came to our table to ask to take our appetizer plates away (we weren't completely done the $16 app so we wanted to sit and finish it) our server walked up to this other employee (short blonde hair half up in a tiny bun, black puffer vest) gave our table a dirty look and said "of course"... which I'm sure she didn't intend me to hear but hard to ignore as she was standing in my direct eye sight in a room full of guests.. put a bad taste in my mouth after that due to feeling like I was being judged by the employees just for finishing my $$$ food.. otherwise tasting was good, cupcakes were better!! read more

Went here about a week ago and the wine and atmosphere was AMAZING. I brought the kiddos and my German Sheppard and they had a blast. However, there was an employee by the name of macy I believe, who was just not the friendliest. I'm not sure if she was having a bad day but she and another girl seemed to care more about teenage drama than they did their job. I made reservations 2 days prior, and I'm glad I chose this one. My friends loved this place, the service is amazing and the workers here are so sweet. They offer cheese, crackers and jams to snack on with the wine. The cheese is locally made and the crackers are made in house. The mild cheddar cheese was smooth and very creamery. Wines vary depending on what you like; I personally like a wine that's on the sweeter side and not dry. The workers knew what to recommend and were on point. I'll start by stating that I am a fan of this spot. The grounds are beautiful, the picnic concept is really nice, service is very good and the wine is good for PA standards. However, it's a 3.5 star overall. And the reason is the exorbitant price of the wine tasting and the wines by the bottle. I have been around wine all of my life so I know prices across regions and varieties and as it's a big head scratcher to understand why the prices are so high here. For me personally it's not a showstopper for visiting or recommending the place, but it does limit how much business I am willing to give them. And I think new customers should be aware. I think this spot has so much potential and could be more accessible from a price standpoint. read more

The winery was beautiful and there was lots of space to social distance for tastings. My only qualm about the tasting was that the flight was predetermined and there was only one choice. I really wanted to try everything lol! The moscato was extraordinary and my favorite. The staff was exceptionally polite and the complimentary cheese to cleanse the palate was decadent, so delicious! This winery was beautiful and spacious! The view into the vineyard was phenomenal and the live music was a great touch. We ordered a bunch of different wines including the Moscato Rosè (fan favorite), the Dolce, the Chardonnay and the Chambourcin and they were all delicious! The winery doesn't serve food but they do have snacks that they either make on the premises or source locally. Their basil Parmesan chips are freaking addicting! They also have different cheeses; I tried the mild cheddar which was phenomenal! The people at the counter were extremely friendly and helpful in making a decision about which wine to order. Masks are required when walking throughout the venue but are okay to remove when you are stationary. I would definitely come back! read more
