We opted for the 4 course meal at $55 per person. It was nice for us to be able to try a little bit of everything and it was more than enough food for the two of us. Our favorites were the meatballs and bone marrow! Pastas were fresh and amazingly well flavored and cooked. Limoncello cake was the best dessert. Will definitely come back to try other menu items. Great for a date night or girls night out!

You know the bread is at least going to be out of this world. My friend and I dined here on a week night, and boy was it popping! I love the ambiance- I felt like I was dining at my grandmother's house. It's small, cozy and decorated like your grandmothers living room or study. The menu is pretty small, but rotating. We started with the Italian Wedge "caesar." Who can go wrong with a caesar, but the jammy egg and proscuitto crisps were the star! Truly a great take on a caesar and huge, may I add. For our mains we shared the corn and ricotta pizza and the mushroom pasta. Both were absolutely OUTSTANDING! It has been some time since visiting and my mouth is still watering thinking about both plates. We were absolutely stuffed by the end but thrilled to take home some leftovers. Prices are reasonable considering the quality of the food. I would 100% return, I just wish there were some more gluten free options so my husband could accompany me!

With main roads and side streets finally cleared... I booked a RW dinner res at Costiera. There is a parking garage across the street for 5 dollars. We walked over (still icy ugh) but made it in and were seated. Interior was very nicely done up with wicker basket light fixtures and a nice colorful mural above the host stand. Our server AJ took great care of us- they were funny, attentive and very friendly. For restaurant week the menu honestly was fantastic with many options for every person's palate and dietary preferences. I went with the octopus appetizer, squid ink bucatini with calamari, and a pound cake with lemon curd and mint whipped cream. Every single thing I had was delicious. The octopus was grilled perfectly and tender and the bean puree and potato paired nicely. The pasta was umami and not too tomatoey or acidic. My pound cake was tasty with the tanginess of the curd pairing well with the whipped cream. My boyfriend enjoyed his mushroom soup, his mushroom bolognese rigatoni( i tried this, I would absolutely order this next time)and a decadent chocolate tart. If you're reading this and they extended their restaurant week menu, go now and enjoy a fantastic meal.

Best Thing I Ever Ate: Hummus, Lamb Shoulder…read more This was my second visit to Zahav while visiting Philadelphia. I'm glad I had visited before because I knew the importance of pacing myself. I knew I could only enjoy a little knibble of each of the delicious salads that were initial placed on the table. I think I ate all the twice-cooked eggplant. It was so good! The hummus is honestly the best I've ever had, and the laffa bread is such a yummy accompaniment. I had to stop myself from eating too much! I tried the Phyllo-wrapped Haloumi. It was ok, but I liked my dad's Freekeh Arancini better. The Pomegranate Lamb Shoulder is the reason I had to pace myself. This is also one of my favorite lamb dishes that I've ever had. The greens are a nice accomaniment. I didn't care for the crispy rice, and it was the only thing I didn't like. I got the Pecan Konafe for dessert and it was like an exotic pecan pie. Love this! The honey ice cream was so refreshing after a big meal. I left very happy.

I came to know…read moreabout this restaurant through Eater's "Mise En Place" video series on YouTube and was struck by the care and contemplation put into each dish. The second I knew I was visiting Philly, I set a reminder on my phone to vie for a reservation. We got a 9:30pm reservation, which was late for my usual dining habits but absolutely no question worth the extra few hours to build up and appetite and anticipate going to such a renowned restaurant. We were met with a beautiful dining room and kind, passionate people at Zahav, especially our bartenders, who made our experience a true EVENT, describing each dish to us even as we were making decisions on the tasting menu, and vouching for the fact that we MUST try the halloumi, which ended up being my favorite dish! Wow, the care that is put into the craft of this food is unreal. Zahav is a true celebration of cuisine. We started with the laffa bread being served straight out of the fire with accompaniments which were absolute flavor bombs, especially the eggplant and pickled cabbage. The bread was warm, soft, and so flavorful in itself but made even better by the hummus-tehina, which was perhaps the smoothest I've ever had. The Pomegranate Lamb Shoulder fell right off the bone, and the Amba-braised Greens and Crispy Persian Rice were side dishes that felt like main events in themselves -- the crispiness of the rice perfectly complemented the pomegranate sauce of the lamb. This was the perfect celebration dinner, and Zahav quickly made it to the top of my list of places that live up to their hype and go above and beyond in the kindness realm.

It was thin enough that it didn't take away from the melt-in-your-mouth quality of the fish. There was a smokiness in this that we couldn't figure out but it worked so fricken well Octopus: golly gee was this some good octopus. The most tender bite I think I've had in my life. It was breaded and fried but not in a heavy way at all. My first bite was almost Buffalo chicken-y? The peanut sauce also paired really well Scallop: oh my god. My favorite dish of the night. The scallops FELL apart with the lightest touch of a fork. They simply ~melted~. There was a fresh sea flavor to them as well. Paired super well with the meaty, slightly charred mushrooms Cabbage: left much to be desired. The pine nuts were super nutty and the brown butter was nice. But it was hard to eat the pine nut and the cabbage in one bite so they weren't really paired together. Cabbage was nicely charred but besides that it was a soft wedge of cabbage Cod: the curry was very ginger forward which I appreciated. Strong curry flavor but nothing too spectacular there. Once again though, the protein was cooked to perfection. Super flaky and melty pieces. I wish there were a few more pieces of bok choy and that the mushrooms were the ones in the octopus (this one was shiitake and larger softer pieces. I wanted some more chew I guess) Chocolate sorbet and cookies: never in my life did I imagine that a sorbet could taste like that. It was the richest dark chocolate flavor without a hint of sugar aftertaste. Phenomenal and super creamy too. The cookies look like they have a lot of salt, but it's really just the right amount. They were shortbreads but so buttery that it fell apart in your mouth. Not dry at all All in all, best to worst imho goes: scallops, crudo, octopus, cod, cabbage

The restaurant itself is beautiful and in a prime location. The food, however, felt like it could have been better. Overall Ratings Atmosphere - 5/5 Service - 5/5 Food - 3/5 Parking - Valet/Street Parking Atmosphere - The restaurant has stunning decor with a very modern design. Everything felt immaculate and well put together. Service - This is where the restaurant truly stood out. Even before our visit, as soon as I made the reservation, I reached out to ask about accommodations for my girlfriend's birthday to make sure she had the experience she deserved. I also wanted to bring a large bouquet to be placed on our table. The staff maintained consistent communication, made everything easy to coordinate, and were more than willing to help. Once we arrived, at least five staff members wished my girlfriend a happy birthday, and she was genuinely happy with the level of attention and thoughtfulness. What We Ordered - -Yellowfin Tuna Tartare (The fish itself was fresh, rich, and buttery, but the dish was overpowered by an overly salty flavor. It would have been much better if the natural sweetness of the tuna was allowed to shine) -Swordfish Milanese (This dish was excellent. From presentation to bold flavors, everything came together really well and we both loved it) -Jerk Roasted Cod (This dish felt a bit flat, lacking flavor and depth) Final Thoughts - While a couple of the dishes didn't quite meet our expectations, I would still come back because of the exceptional service. It left a lasting impression, and I'd be interested in trying other items on the menu. PS my girlfriend loved the surprise dessert the restaurant provided, and it was delicious as well.

The tasting menu had three tiers you could choose from- $35, $45, and $55/person. We chose the $55/person option which included the full menu of tapas as well as dessert. They pick the most popular dishes to bring out to the table but also allow you to request any specifically that you'd like. By the end of night, we had a TON of food, even more than we could finish, and ended up trying at least 15 different dishes. All the food was great, with some of my favorites being the eggplant caponata (cold, very flavorful), scallops a la plancha, jamon & manchego croquetas, spiced beef empanadas, and the paellas. Favorite dessert was the chocolate cake, but we were received all the desserts other than the ice cream and sorbet. I may have liked the food experience less if I had ordered off the regular menu and only tried a few small plate, but I loved the option of trying so many dishes. By the time we finished everything, we had been there for over 3 hours (including lots of wine of course), which was really fun! The place gets packed on a Saturday night so we would not have gotten in without a reservation.

Ended up here by accident because I was window shopping with my 3 year old and he suddenly shouted…read more"I need to potty"...most establishments do not have restrooms available to the public so I figured our best bet was a restaurant and popped in here. The staff were immediately sympathetic, super friendly and helpful. Of course, as if I wasn't embarrassed enough, as soon as the 3 year old washed his hands, he shouted "I'm hungry" (is this sort of human I'm raising?). We were already in a restaurant so why not. Before being seated or looking at the menu, I asked for some fries to be put in and the waitress offered some chicken tenders. After finally looking over the menu, I don't think these are regular offerings so I appreciated them trying to be accommodating to a frazzled parent at dinner time. My vegan mother in law joined us and we were pleased that there were so many options for her. My absolute favourite (such that I had to order another round) was the eggplant caponata - perfectly sweet with a little bit of spice. It was so warm and comforting - exactly what I want at the end of a long cold day. My MIL's fav were the Brussels sprouts - they had a tang reminiscent of buffalo sauce and were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, textured heaven (extra bonus points for the 3 year old absolutely LOVING them - he redeemed himself). If you like hummus, try the spinach and chick pea cazuela. Squash is in season so I knew it was going to be delightful - the pomegranate was a combination that was new to me, but it didn't disappoint. We didn't try the roasted carrots (because my household is all carroted out for the moment) but someone one table over was gushing over them. As a meat eater, I have to say that the non meat tapas were standouts - I tried the empanadas, they were fine; I didn't enjoy the meatballs and I just wanted to order more of the eggplant caponata. All in all, I would definitely come back, maybe for drinks with friends or date night. The drink list looked inviting and nothing says intimacy like mood lighting and shared plates. The price (without alcohol) was very approachable - for $80 a vegan, a 3 year old and a frazzled mom left satiated.
