Not Cool Cathy- We knew going in that the flavored sweet wines were not our thing, but maybe some of their others would be. Turns out they were having an event with food trucks, vendors, and live music, two reggae/ska bands. There was a modest fee to enter. We both had an $8 slushy- crazy sweet but tasty and cold. We got a bottle of their Rose, ice cold, and they gave us a bucket of ice, too. We sat down and had a great time. The food trucks were overwhelmed so I bought two cupcakes from a vendor @CATHYSCUPCAKES, I handed her my card, she did tap and pay on the cube, no need for a receipt right? Turns out she charged me $24 for the two cupcakes, Not Cool Cathy- Not Cool! Love to think it was a simple mistake, but Cathy was acting sketchy when she had the card. Not cool. Delicious wine tasting with a friend on a wet Veteran's Day. Coming here with a Groupon made the tasting affordable to enjoy the list of wine such as the Blueberry Cotton Candy wine, dry reds and sweeter whites. It was a quiet day with many not sure if they were open on Veteran's Day. The cabin like environment invites you to sip your wine while resting and conversing with friends. We were taken care of by a great staff member and left purchasing 6 bottles of wine. They didn't have the wine satchel but they offered to honor it if we brought back the sheet from our tasting. We will be back to take in the atmosphere, more delicious wine and other events that they host other times of the year! read more

What a place for a wine and beer festival! I came with a friend on this rainy day, but that didn't stop the party. There was plenty of parking and directions just don't miss the turn in my the small black sign. They have an air b&b on the property and a lot of wine pairing classes. The wine slushys are are strong in my opinion and super tasty. The sunset wine has to be my favorite out of all the tastings I did. The food trucks on sight had a good bit of variety to choose from. Glass blowing & wine tasting & fun new friends ! What more could you want for a great time out? Food? Yes they had a food truck as well. This was my first time visiting this vineyard and the wine didn't disappoint! They were hosting a glass blowing ornament class offered by two great guys Ross and Doug. They were only there to teach the class of about 32. When we arrived we checked in and got a drink ticket & liability release from to sign as glass blowing uses high heat from propane tanks and the glass can shatter when blowing it up into tiny shards of glass. At this point we are early so we just sat down and waited for others to arrive...there's always one who holds everything up being late . It's a set time so we can get everyone done safely and efficiently as possible. If we hold the class for 1/2/3 people we won't complete the session and the next class will be late starting. I am just mentioning this because it is very time consuming and you will need the entire time to complete your ornaments but you have to wait until they're completely cooled before you move on. Everyone arrives and Doug goes over safety rules and dangers. He then explains exactly how we are going to become glass blowers within the next 3 hours. Got it. We are waiting our turn to fill our bulb with frit and the larger crystals which was all out display on the table and Ross was helping people add the color and texture to the glass before blowing it up. We are now ready to light the propane torch and slowly heat the glass until it is glowing like the orange flame which is to come up evenly under both sides and around the top. During this process there are always two people needed-blower and the torch operator. Now we won't give away the power of such an amazing change from plain clear glass to a very simple colored glass ornaments to anyone else. We were all given 6 glass straw clear tubes with small glass bubble on the bottom. Do not go. There are so many better options in the region. You know that "friend" that will smile to your face then stab you in the back? Dove Valley is the equivalent. It gives a hippie vibe but is really a trap. On the surface the staff appear friendly and the event lineup is intriguing, but if you look a little closer you'll see that everything is a facade. The staff deflect questions and are less than helpful. To make matters worse, the owner is rude, dismissive, and walked away in the middle of a normal conversation. The event advertising is misleading at best. The time listed is generally wrong, and their solution is for you to just stick around and buy a few glasses of their wine. The events that do happen are lackluster and definitely just the cheapest performers they can find. When they say there will be food trucks and vendors, expect one food truck with their menu restricted and a popup tent with crocheted creatures. P.S. Their idea of a wine slushy is basically a snow cone with a stingy amount of barely detectable wine flavor. read more

I went to the Farmers Market in Havre de Grace. The young couple that represented was very knowledgeable about the wines, let us know what their favorites were, I like that and they were able to point me in the direction of what I might like. They were spot on. I have not been back to the market, but I did find the bottle of white that I bought in Wine World which made me happy. My daughter was able to taste it. We came in December so they were working out of another building. When we entered we were blasted away with a very loud musician . The volume was overbearing. Super loud. The environment was that of a going into a firehall for a New Years party. You could not talk with anyone because of the loudness. It was not relaxing or comfortable at all. The wine was like drinking juice. No notes. Nothing for the palette. Just blah. We couldn't wait to leave. No returning to this place for us unfortunately. (It should be noted that the musician was very good as well as his guitar work. Just better suited for an outdoor open event) read more

We happened upon this three generation family owned and run winery while out for a drive. Between the two of us, we tasted nine wines and fell in love with eight of them! My sis and I decided to adventure off to somewhere new for her birthday. Her birthday happens to fall on Easter Sunday this year, so lots of Easter egg hunting events were taking place today on Saturday. Dove Valley apparently hosts a cork hunt and egg hunt every year and this year we had the joy of participating. It was a 2 hour drive from Washington D.C., but well worth the drive and views along the way. The vineyard isn't enormous, but has a beautiful outside area with plenty of seating and tables to lounge and enjoy wine. We had an hour to kill before the cork hunt, so we went inside and did a wine tasting. 5 tastings for $5. The tastings are a bit smaller than normal, so although the deal seems fabulous, you do get what you pay for. My sister and I tried 10 different types of wines. Our top 3 were the Red, the Bentley, and the Apple wine. (Full disclaimer: I'm used to drinking California wines, so the wine was drastically different, not bad, but just different. Most California wines are aged in oak barrels while the ones in Maryland are aged in stainless steel). The Bentley and Apple wines are both on the sweeter side for me although they were advertised as "semi-sweet". They also had a peach wine that a lot of people like, but it was way too sweet in my opinion. The cork hunt was fun--albeit lasting only 1.5 minutes, but it was fun nonetheless. This year, the corks had letters or percentages on them. The letters represented certain prizes and the percentages were X% off a bottle of wine. We happily went home with 3 bottles of wine ;) I definitely recommend visiting this vineyard if you're in the area already. Definitely a far drive from D.C., but it's nice to get away every once in a while. Additionally, the staff are fantastic! They are soooooo nice and one of the boys even offered to take a pic of my sister and I when they noticed that we were struggling to take selfies lol. Love this place! Great experience here! Plenty of parking and space to relax and enjoy the outdoors. You're even invited to check out their vineyard. Shared a bottle of Riesling, unfortunately due to the stupid covid they presented it with plastic cups. the bucket of ice to chill the wine was a nice touch though. The wine was crisp, had flavors of apple and citrus, and not too sweet. I really appreciated the complimentary freshly popped popcorn to nibble on between sips. There was a catering company on site selling food next to the open but covered seating area. Looking forward to coming back for their reds! read more

Dove strikes me as a place well suited for a family gathering, attending a special event (they host any number of them for kids and adults, plus you can hold your own), or somewhere to stock up on very reasonably priced wines for the dinner table. I'm not saying you shouldn't bring a date here, but if you're hunting for an uber sophisticated wine tasting or place to hang with a bunch of singles to get sloshed, go elsewhere. The wine selection is pretty remarkable for an 8 acre, all estate vineyard. I had 13 (!) tastings, although the pours were extra small to compensate. While I did taste them all, as a dry red drinker I almost stopped taking notes towards the end, as sweet wines tend to taste the same to me. Partial write up of what I tried: Vignoles: White grape usually found in New York (in fact many of their grapes were NY varietals). OK 2010 Pinot Noir: Lighter bodied red that I seldom find. Had a dark berry flavor, but wasn't overly strong. I liked it enough I bought a bottle (which my parents & I promptly drank at dinner) Riesling: Average to pretty good good; nice and dry. Summer Hill: Sweet Merlot, which I found to be unusual but an interesting change Bianca: They got the rootstock from NY but the grape is actually from Hungary, so this was a new one to me. Fruity & semi dry. Winter Spice: Spiced wine, basically a mulled wine but can be served chilled. Very good! Given how cold this April has been, mulled wine seems about right. Chocolate Raspberry: I normally don't go for chocolate flavored wines, but I did like this one. While except for the Pinot and the Winter Spice the wines weren't knock our socks off, what did blow me away was the hospitality. I visited on a Fri afternoon and things were a bit hectic for them as they were setting up for a dinner & show the next day. Still, my server (in between running between this and that) was hospitable, and even brought out a free cheese plate to occupy me when she had to run outside. Two last notes. Being next to Pennsylvania has its advantages, because those cheeses were the bomb! And sometime in the future they will have a brewery! I can easily see the wives hanging out in one building and the hubby's in the other. read more

My husband and I popped by on our way home from Bel Air, enroute to the Philly area. It's a beautiful, large property with plenty of event space. We were told they are also opening a brewery onsite in the future. They recently received their license. Tasting is $10 for all 17 wines. Great price. Wyatt was our host and he was absolutely fantastic. We sat outside while he came in and out pouring our wine and telling us a little bit about the vineyard, the wines, and the family business. Wines here are on the lighter and sweeter side. So if you're more into bold, dry, or tannic wines, this may not be your thing. But if you love wine and are visiting with someone who's not a huge wine person you'll both enjoy the experience. That being said we brought home 6 bottles, mainly as gifts to our sweet and fruit wine drinkers. But we did get one to share on a nice warm evening. While the wines weren't my favorite, the experience was unforgettable. read more

I visited Dove Valley a few weeks ago on a Saturday. My friend and I enjoyed ourselves. We each ordered a flight so that we could taste a variety of wines. They included a small taste of a free wine which was very kind. I enjoyed many of the wines and there were some unique types that I had never tasted before. I purchased two different bottles to take home. The staff were friendly. We didn't really learn much about the vineyard or wines but I think that's because we didn't do a regular tasting. There was live music and the musicians had great energy. There was a covered area which was great because a rainstorm came through. They had warming devices nearby some of the seats that were in the uncovered areas. That was a nice touch. There was a food truck and we enjoyed tacos. Surprisingly, the portion was much bigger than expected. There was ample parking onsite and indoor restrooms. read more

This review is partially for the winery and partially for the small overnight place they run on the property. The winery was seemingly fine for very sweet wine and bland ambiance. The people running the winery, and therefore running the place to stay, are unfortunate indeed. We came for a weekend getaway that seemingly went fine, until we found out afterwards that the owners (who had been kind and understanding in person) had been disparaging us behind our backs for things we never did. I'd recommend that you avoid this place; the disrespectful service is not worth the cloyingly sweet and mediocre wines. If you want a similar experience to visiting this establishment, I'd recommend saving yourself the trip and drinking a bottle of cough syrup at home. That would be cheaper, less trouble, and more fun. read more

Date of visit: 14 July 2012 Military Discount: 10% My wife n I just finished visiting Plumpton Park zoo in Cecil cnty and decided to use Yelp to find something else to do and to our delight we found several wineries listed nearby. Dove Valley is a small family run budding vineyard with a rustic log cabin style tasting room/house. They are in the middle of building a covered pavilion on a large lot overlooking the closest grape fields. We sampled 7 or 8 wines for $5. We were also allowed to re-sample several of the wines to narrow our choices down. Now we happened to mention earlier that it was Sheri's b-day and the owner gave Sheri a full (to the rim) glass of wine for free. They also gave us Maryland State winery passport for free, normally if sells for $2 to $5. I should have asked sooner, but at check out, I asked about Military discounts, and they gave me 10% of purchases, so I don't know if they give free tastings or not. Nice place, not as big as Boordy, but they hold events as well (concerts n festivals, etc). I'm looking forward to their hot air balloon festival!!! Generally there is no food available (vendors during festivals), but you're welcome to pack a picnic lunch This is definitely a place we will visit again. read more

I was invited to join the Winestock celebration at Dove Valley yesterday afternoon. Over driving over an hour, we weren't disappointed upon arriving. We enjoyed tasting a variety of wines and the ladies pouring were super insightful. The Apple wine was definitely something new to me and was only $12 for a big bottle. I hate having to do this, but some constructive criticism needs to be done for Dove Valley. I work at another winery so I like to stop at other wineries and taste. We pulled off the freeway following signs to this winery as a break from driving. I kind if wish we hadn't. This was the worst tasting experience we've ever had. But I know it can get better because the property is adorable and with a little help the tasting experience could be much better. We walked into the small tasting room and said hi to the young female tasting host (no name tag) and then used the restroom. We both walked out of the restroom and the host was nowhere to be found. A few minutes later she shows up with a mouth full of cookie and tries talking to us with her mouth full. So I introduce myself and tell her I work at a winery. She doesn't really say anything and then tells us that the tasting will be $5. No acknowledgement that I work in the wine industry (most others will do a free tasting. I wasn't really upset about this, just disappointed that she seemed completely disinterested.) She poured the first wine. Which was a red. And all she told us was that it was a dry red. That's it. My mom said she didn't like it and the host said she could pour it out in the sink. Umm really? You want us to do your job for you? How hard is it to put out an extra cup to pour into? She poured another, with little explanation and then answered the ringing phone. She talked to the caller in front of us and then rolled her eyes to the caller. So rude to us as customers. She poured a couple more in the same fashion and then checked her Twitter. So incredibly unprofessional. She told us a little about the winery but never really asked us about ourselves or talked with us at all. The only thing she really said was that she accidentally let the dog out earlier and that since the last customers had said she could blame it on them, she said she would. Really? You're going to tell us that? What are you going to blame on us after we leave? On top of all this, the tasting was done backwards, from heavy reds to whites. And the pours were basically just her wetting the bottom of the glass. My tip would be to check out a few wineries and do some tastings to get a feel of a proper tasting and build from there. Wyatt was very knowledgable and guided us through their extensive tasting! You get to try more than ten different wines! I was so surprised! We came here for a grape harvest day and then did tastings/purchased some wine. The grape harvest was fun, with us learning about some of the different varieties of grapes they use for each wine. In addition, tasting was encouraged, which was neat to taste the different notes of grapes instead of your generic green or red produce aisle types. The tasting itself was nice, however we didn't get very much information on each wine. Other wineries are more enthusiastic when describing each vintage and grapes, which I felt detracted from our experience here. The wine we bought had a slightly crumbly cork which left pieces in the wine when being poured, maybe they just had bad corks that year. We saw the sign for the winery off rt. 95 and decided to stop in. It's tucked between houses and farms, a cute small wooded cabin is where we did our tastings. $5 tasting for all their wines and you get to keep the cute stemless glass and they gave us complimentary cheese and crackers. We walked out with 6 bottles!!! The wine was sooo good and tasted like a cool day in the summer the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because when we went there was no entertainment (music, bands, etc.) there were papers that said certain dates had certain fun entertainment so I guess it depends on the weekend. read more

We stopped by this winery after buying the MD Wine passport at a nearby winery -- motivation! It felt like a close-knit family-run operation, down to some wines named after the two dogs lounging around the log cabin tasting room. There was a nominal fee for the tasting. The wines weren't bad -- I think my favorite was called Sweet Summer Hill. I really liked the free tour (even though it started ~20 minutes later than we were told). It included a walk through the vineyard and the cellar, and everyone got a free taste of wine straight from the barrel. The guide (also a family member) was very knowledgeable since he works all parts of the operation. There was a small craft fair while we were there. Wine tastings are $5 for 5 small samples. The wine is generally good though the super sweet stuff I didn't like as much but I don't like very sweet wines. We came with a Groupon deal for a glass of wine and a concert. Only two options for our free glass of wine (apple and white), but they were nice summer wines. I had the pleasure of visiting this beautiful vineyard this past weekend. The tasting was only $5 a person and they had a large selection. We ended up hanging out for a while and they provided complimentary cheese and crackers. The staff is very friendly, is a family owned and operated winery so the atmosphere if very casual and comfortable. They are professional but they don't come off as stuffy like some wineries. We liked the wine so much we ended up buying 6 bottles to take home. They provide a wine tote if you choose to do this and when you bring it back up on your next visit you get an additional discount. Finally I get a chance to write my review of this place. Stopped by here with a friend, looking for a bottle of sweet white. There was only one worker, probably the owner, who offered us to try his special white, which was red. Just to be polite, I tried the wine. My friend, who doesn't drink, declined. I asked about sweet white wine, and the guy poured me some to try, which I didn't like. He also poured some for my friend, despite him previously refusing wine. Neither of us liked the wine, however, the owner then proceeded to charge us for wine tasting. And he charged both of us! What kind of wine tasting is this? Especially, if one customer specifically told you he doesn't drink? I'm glad this place is in the middle of nowhere so not many customers will suffer this type of service! read more

We saw a sign for Dove Valley while driving on 95, so we decided to stop by on our way home from a girl's weekend. At first we weren't sure if we were in the right place, but found our way inside for a $5 tasting of 15 wines, which were all pretty good. Wyatt took great care of us and his grandfather gave us a tour of the vineyard telling us all about the types of grapes they grow. The property is adorable and very relaxing. We were pleasantly surprised to find out they had a very reasonably priced wine and paint class ($30 which included a glass of wine) in the afternoon in which they were able to make space for us to join.
