I feel so disenchanted because I really, really wanted to love this place. I was so enthused by the prospect of eating here thanks to the glowing reviews. My mom and I came in for lunch. We didn't like it and she had the same gripes as I did: The server was nice, but while it wasn't really busy, he never brought my spicy mayo. I had to ask a waitress to please bring it. The mayo tasted different *bleh* to all the other ones I've had at restaurants, which BTW, are standard condiments such as Lin's, Kato's, Kurai and Kumori. The spicy mayo tastes the same at all those places, but this one was just ugh, more like Miracle Whip instead of mayo. I thought it was ridiculous when the waiter informed me that the mayo (which comes in a little container) isn't free. He didn't tell me the price, but said he wouldn't charge me. Gee, thanks. I thought I liked basil (tomato basil soup is my favorite) but their use of basil was overpowering. I know it's used in Vietnamese cuisine, but not so much! It marred all the food we ate, from the emperor fried rice, the deluxe sweet potato fries and the beef phonominal tacos T.T The basil masked the other flavors and actually got on my nerves. Speaking of nerves, my mom and I grew quite irritated at the constant whooping sounds the employees made. It was jarring, distracting and inconsiderate EVERY. SINGLE. TIME they did it. We were conversing and trying to enjoy the food (we didn't) but as we were already annoyed by the above mentioned complaints, you can imagine that their whooping was the digestif we needed to end our lunch prematurely. I asked my server why they did that and he said it was every time they received tips. ¬.¬ Speaking of tips, I was further annoyed by the suggested tip of 18% (with increasing options, or no tip). *This review is being written by a guy with particular dietary habits not commonly found in Texas, so be warned. I found myself in McAllen, TX for awhile due to work, and discovered Snowbite prior to coming to town. It's easy to access off the road, and plenty of parking out front. Walking in, I found an open, clean, bright area with cute decorations including a giant pair of angel wings on the wall you can sit in front of. My server was prompt and walked me through the menu. He was considerate of my dietary habits, and steered me away from a few items. I ended up ordering the tofu tostadas and and the tofu pho. The tostadas are a neat presentation with carrots and lettuce, and tofu in a sweet sauce on chips. A bit crumbly when you eat it, so use a napkin or eat over the plate. The tofu pho could have benefited from some more vegetables in it, but the broth was delicious. They bring you the normal basil, sprouts, jalepenos, and more that you'd expect with a bowl of pho. Once winter comes, this would be a great thing to have (or when hungover...) I plan on returning and eating a few more things on the menu before I leave this area. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE. I don't even know where to begin. WORST service I've ever experienced followed by the worst pho I've ever come across. I had the seafood wanton pho. It was a big bowl of broth with about 1/4 of the amount of noodles there should have been. My son had the ginger soy chicken. It smelled horrible and tasted worse. Not to mention it was a tiny portion. We had to ask for drinks that they never brought out so we got them out of the cooler ourselves. Also, we ordered egg rolls and they never brought them out. Reading the reviews I decided to come here and was pretty excited to find a place where I can get some Vietnamese food since I've been traveling a lot for work and felt a little home sick... I came on a the third Wednesday of the month and the soup of the day was the mi Quang which I was pretty excited to try since I love this dish.. I was pretty disappointed right away when the lettuce dish came out and the line was dry... The noodles were bland and it just tasted like a broth from an instant noodle package.. I should have gotten the hu tieu like most others ordered and liked.. I really wanted to like this place but I guess comparing the food here to back home in DFW isn't fair.. I may come back to try something else if I'm ever in town again. Oh I also got a basil fruit drink that was pre made and It was alright, I was expecting a lot more basil seeds but it was mainly just a little layer on the bottom of the cup. Pho was not good. Meat was very tough and chewy and they only gave a tiny bit. Spring rolls were just ok. Peanut sauce was very lacking and again they didn't give near enough to even have sauce for each roll. No crushed chili sauce or soy sauce (except in little packets like you get at Chinese takeout.). Service was very SLOW and the kids working there were clueless about how to wait tables or customer service. I sat there 10 minutes before someone took my order. True Rating: 3.5/4 WHAT I ORDERED: Lemongrass Pork Bahn Mi (~$5) I'm giving points to Snowbite for bringing another cuisine option to the area around here. The service here is very friendly, and the menu is huge - so there is literally anything for anyone depending on what you're craving - whether it's rice bowl, noodle vermicelli bowl, bahn mi, boba, and shaved ice - there are several options out of this huge menu. FOOD: I was craving bahn mi's lately and decided to go with the LEMONGRASS PORK BAHN MI. Overall, the sandwich was a 3.5/4.0 - definitely not the best I've had but I have to be lenient considering the Vietnamese options around town. The french bread was crispy and fresh and the sandwich was loaded with fresh vegetables of cilantro and cucumber. The bread was slathered in their delicious asian mayo. My only complaint about the sandwich was the lack of pork in the sandwich. While the lemongrass pork was tender and cooked well, I had a hard time finding it in every bite I took. By the time I had 1/4 of the sandwich left, there was nothing except bread and veggies left. So my suggestion? Add a little bit more meat! Fantastic food here! Some of the best Vietnamese food I've had in the states. The grilled pork spring rolls are DELICIOUS. From the crunch when you bite into them to the flavor of the pork, you can't go wrong! A colleague of mine suggested I try out Snowbite and to my surprise the food was really good. I can taste the freshness in the vermicelli bowl and spring rolls. The food here is the first of its kind in the valley. I'm vegetarian & its hard to find places to eat. However, this restaurant can do a veggie substitute on most of their items. The food is always so flavorful & fresh & at a reasonable price. You can tell all the hard work & love the owners put into the entire experience. If there was anything I could give 5 stars on with this place, it would be on their marketing. The owner of the restaurant hails from SoCal so there were hopes that the food would be just as good as the Vietnamese restaurants in Orange County or Anaheim. I even got excited after seeing the vast amount of positive reviews and feedback from their Twitter, Yelp, or Facebook accounts posted on their walls. Unfortunately for my experience, the hype ended up being all bark and no bite. I would say the execution of it all fell apart from the poor service and inconsistent menu items. I came on the day where they were to serve their pho dac biet since the place I would have went to was closed on Wednesdays. In addition to that, we ordered some pork spring rolls and wings to the order. The pho just fell flat as the meat was more on the stringy and chewy side while the broth tasted overwhelming from what seemed to be an excessive amount of certain spices used in it. Also it seems to be that they don't carry cilantro or mint for the pho. That would be fine if the beansprouts or chili oil at the tables were fresh but they both appear old and in need of replacement. Fortunately the pork spring rolls and wings were better than the pho made up for it. As for the service, I feel for the waiter as he appeared frantic and scared running around back and forth all over the place during the lunch rush. At the same time, he never offered us water during the hour and fifteen minutes we were there and I had to walk up to him to try to get my Vietnamese iced coffee at the end of the meal when it was originally ordered at the beginning. In fact, I don't think he even came by to check up on us the whole time and attempts to wave him down were futile. I get that this place is suppose to be a play on fusion cuisine and I'm willing to give it another chance in the future on those particular items. Unless there's an overhaul on how they cook their traditional items, I can't vouch for that portion of the menu as I could get those particular entrees with better quality at other Vietnamese restaurants in the area. As far as the issues with the service, the only suggestion I could offer would be to have a self serving drink station or have counter service. The type of food and environment this restaurant serves lends well to that type of services and it may be much more streamlined and efficient in the long run. read more

Omg! I loved everything about this amazing family owned business. Upon entering you notice a big welcome sign with a family portrait and the owners story. This was so personal that it reminded you this was a local family business not another franchise. The environment was simple yet every wall told a story. There were huge wings for a perfect photo op. The other wall had a bulletin that caught my attention. There was a prepaid /pay it forward wall. Anyone can prepay a meal or take a meal which I think is absolutely genius, caring and perfect. Now about the food which is probably why your reading this... it was scrumptious!! We ordered the sriracha wings, spicy pork and shrimp dumplings and Emperors fried rice. Now let me tell you those were the BEST dumplings I've ever had. (Just those alone will have me going back) The wings were just the right amount of spicy and crispy. Every bite was packed with flavor. The emperor fried rice had pork, veggies, shrimp and egg. It was a nice large portion. We ordered to go but can't wait to go back and try everything on their menu like the tamarind wings, or the banh mi! I don't know if I came to this restaurant at their worst moment, but I was so disappointed. It took about 15 minutes for anyone to take my order; during that time two parties had to leave after being told that it would take 30-45 minutes for their orders to be ready. I ordered spring rolls to go which, as you know, should be super fresh. I made the mistake of not looking at my food until I had already left the restaurant. I would not have taken them otherwise. This is a cute little Asian cafe that's located in Edinburg. It very much has the feel of a cafe; light blue coloring, cute pictures and photos all over the walls, colorful decor. The staff is all very friendly too! When they get busy during lunch though, you may have to wait a little bit to get served (it seems like there isn't a whole lot of people working in the kitchen). As for food: 1. Thai tea: I really love the thai tea here. It is a little pricey for the size, but I really like their cream to tea balance. It's refreshingly sweet and a great alternative to an actual dessert. 2. Pork spring rolls: Yum! For $5 you get three spring rolls. They seem to make these fresh, which I really appreciate. The pork is warm and crispy, and the rolls are just right for an appetizer. 3. Marinated beef bahn mi: This is a much larger Bahn Mi than I'm used to; they also substitute some of the typical ingredients. The bread isn't the typical Bahn Mi bread, but it's toasty and warm which is great. I thought that they did a great job with the marinated beef too! It's tasty and really flavorful. My only negative about the Bahn Mi is that the sauce (whether its the butter or mayo sauce they use) has a little bit of a sweet or strange after taste? That I think off balances the sandwich. 4. Chicken Pho: Yum! It is a little on the salty side, but I think its the perfect portion and much lighter than the typical pho. read more

I came to Snowbite around 3pm and had this relaxed place to myself (eventually folks showed up) and a friend who introduced me to some awesome dishes. This Asian food establishment has blended the foods of this Mexican-American area into Pho Tacos and some pork tostadas (I can't remember the exact name) that were phenomenal. Every Wednesday they have a different soup of the day, and for this second Wednesday they offered the Seafood Udon. We drove 45 minutes from Harlingen just to try this dish. Within the tasty broth is homemade Udon noodles, shrimp, spare ribs, meatballs consisting of pork and lobster, jalapenos, cilantro, and a few other additions. At under $9 this soup is a steal! The staff is friendly and the owner is on sight to ensure you are having a positive experience at this establishment. Snowbite is one of my favorite local restaurant that's serves Asian fusion style of food. Their food is always great and their desserts are even BETTER. They also nice deals like the appetizer of the day and also lunch specials. I always like getting their Bahn Mi and its at a very good price of $5. You really cannot go wrong with that! I went to their 4th anniversary special with a couple of my friends and we order a Beef ramen and 3 marinated beef Bahn Mi and their Brickalicious (it's delicious). You walk in and two friendly servers yell at the top of their lungs "HI WELCOME" - so enthusiastic to wait on you. They drop off the menus, get your drinks, and come back. What is the place? Is it asian? Is it Mexican? No. Es fusion. This confuses you so you ask, what is good on the menu - the waiter light heartedly jokes with you telling you everything on the menu is good (but they are also for real). You might ask what's the difference between the Pho-nomenal tacos and the House Fusion Tacos. One waiter might say they're the same thing, but you know they're not - the menu obviously states otherwise. The hic-cup is ok and maybe even endearing(?) (misleading ). You didn't want the tacos any way so you look at the menu some more. The waiter also mentioned that it's Wednesday and they have their soup of the day! You order that, how ever you pronounce it, and wait 10 minutes. Your soup arrives - why does it have a pig foot in it? Wow this place is legit. You try the broth, your eyes widen from the shock, suddenly you have memories of being back in Vietnam (despite not being born there) as a little boy and having your bá (grandma) serving you up some delicious BUN BO HUE and it takes you back to simpler times. You add a little hot oil to your soup, you ask the attentive waiter for some more half and half sweet and unsweet tea, and in just a few minutes your delicious BUN BO HUE is gone. You cry a little. It's literally the best soup you had ever had in your life. You ask the waiter if there is more, but he says the guy across from your table just bought the last one. Why is he editing soccer pictures in a restaurant anyways? You get up, pay, and look forward to next month where you can reunite with BUN BO HUE again. read more
