Snoice is unique in that it's the only boba/halo halo/shaved ice shop in Paradise Hills. That makes this place pretty popular, especially during the summer months. You can tell that it's a local favorite because it's often times crowded. Thankfully, I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes for my dessert orders. Even though we occasionally order the shaved ice and boba, the family favorite is the halo halo. Most of my fam loves the regular halo halo. But, I'm a big fan of getting a custom one. No gels, beans or palm fruit for me. Thank you very much. I do wish their halo halo came in a bigger size. Nothing like getting down to the bottom of your halo halo cup, especially on a hot day, and wanting more. Also, I kinda wish their ice cream scoops were bigger. Though, the only comparison I can make to ice cream size is Erlinda's (formerly known as Conchings). Sometimes size does matter! Oh, well. The staff is young, but extremely friendly. There are a handful of tables to sit at, though the tables aren't always clean. The parking lot is small and crappy. But, you can find parking in the back, if needed. During the day, it's a great family hang out, where locals can run into friends and family. At night, it's more the youngin's hangout spot. Snoice is new and specializes in snow ice & Halo Halo. Their regular Halo Halo includes plantains, kamote, gulaman, pinipig, ube, and leche flan. You get all this for $4. You can also create build your own Halo Halo for $5, which is an option that I have never seen at any Pinoy restaurant. I went with the custom Halo and added only my favorites...pinipig, flan, Ube ice cream, Ube, Nata de Coco, and red bean. How was it? It was masarap!!! Masarap with a capital M!!! I'm Filipino and have mastered the art of eating Halo Halo. But one thing I have not mastered was the art of mixing it. My Mix Mix became a Mess Mess with the quickness. I love, love, love desserts! Especially Filipino desserts! When I found out there was a new custom "halo-halo" spot in San Diego, I knew I had to be there! Snoice is a recently opened dessert shop in San Diego, California. It specializes in serving Taiwanese inspired shaved snow, Filipino inspired halo halo, and SoCal crazed boba teas. Halo-Halo has to be one of my favorite Filipino desserts. It can be compared to Hawaiian shaved ice or Mexican raspados. Halo-halo means "mix-mix" in Filipino which exactly what the dessert is. It's a mix of sweet beans, jello, ube, fruit, rice krispies, and flan topped with shaved ice, evaporated milk, and ice cream. When prepared, all the ingredients are layered. When you are ready to eat the halo-halo, you mix it up really good to fuze all the flavors together. The Special Halo-Halo I had at Snoice was "oh so yum"! My halo-halo was made with creamy avocado ice cream. The "pinipig" a.k.a. rice krispies and the leche flan are my favorite parts of halo-halo. The crunchy, sweet goodness of it all brings happiness to my tummy! My kids were excited to try the shaved snow. Jelo had plain shaved snow which had a creamy vanilla flavor. He had his shaved ice with his favorite Oreos. DJ had the plain shaved snow as well with his favorites gummy bears and strawberry popping pearls. Shaved snow is lighter than ice cream and has less dairy than frozen yogurt. It's made from fully-flavored blocks of ice made with real fresh fruit. There are no artificial colors, flavors, ingredients, or preservatives. The flavors of snow ice Snoice offers include strawberry, ube, mango, Thai tea, and honeydew. My kids slurped up their shaved ice and said, "ooh mom, this is goooooood!" The shaved snow comes out as fluffy, creamy layers of silky thin, ribbon-like shavings from flavored ice blocks made with real fresh fruit. The process requires special equipment to flash freeze the blocks in under 4 hours and shave down into an airy consistency. Snoice also serves up boba milk and fruit teas too! Came back for a second try because the manager, Jayrell, was kind enough to personally invite me and my brother back and everything was much better! The halo-halo was sweeter due to sugar being added :)! It made such a difference lol. And I asked for red beans which made it taste like halo-halo that I'm used to. Oh reminiscing back to the good ol' days~ The thai tea did not have sugar just sitting at the bottom and it was sweeter altogether. The boba wasn't too chew-y also. My brother said this drink was way better and satisfying. Similar to thai tea from Lollicup even haha. He was very happy with this improved drink. Their shaved snow was great! I'd definitely go back for it :D! It wasn't too sweet and it has a nice texture. My brother and I got mochi and captain crunch as toppings and they complemented it beautifully. My brother ate it all up very quickly hahah. I should also add that the price of the tea drinks went down and a large thai tea with boba would only be 4$ now. I know my brother will be going back for it hehe. And the halo halo is now worth 5$ when it is sweetened and I am able to add red beans or other classic halo-halo ingredients hehe. Ordered green tea and honey dew flavored mini size shaved ice. Added mango, boba, and mochi for topping. Mango and mochi were very dry, almost not edible. The boba and shaved ice tasted not bad, quite good, but too sweet. I think they should let us control sweetness by allowing us to add it. I was surprised that Snoice was also a zagat rated establishment. A little pricey especially considering the location. Paid almost 10$ (two mini size shaved ice with three toppings). Portion is decent though. I think the interior could be improved a little more. It had an incredibly huge fan (?) right next to the entrance which blew my face directly regardless of having tried to change my seat a few times. Maybe I'm too used to the vibe of those places in Kearny Mesa, but I still strongly think this place could use more renovation to attract more customers in a better environment. read more

Coming from a prior bad experience with shaved snow (there was a place near sdsu that was similar, but not great), this place turned my experience around completely! I have come here a couple of times before and have forgotten to make my review, so now I'm making it! My most recent visit (today-1/12/16) was a great one! I went to this place around 1:40pm, and there weren't a lot of people around! I put in my order- a mango shaved snow (picture below), and waited about 5 minutes. That might have seemed like a long time, but the one making the order took great care in making sure that the order looked VERY pleasing to the eye, which it did!) Now since I had a bad experience prior to this, I was expecting the same here, which was dumb of me after seeing how nice everything looked and tasted. However, every time I have gone, the workers have taken great care of me while over there, making small talk while ordering, and helping me make decisions about what to get! Most of the time at places like these, from my experience, the workers just wait for you to order- not this place! Snoice is a modern Filipino dessert & drink shop. It's like a typical boba shop with a twist of Filipino sweets. I personally wish there was a place like this back at home in NorCal but there's not :( Anywho, we drove all the way inland from Mission Valley to try out their halo halos since SD/National City is known for their Filipino food. & we ended up finding this small inland gem on Yelp. Their halo halos are really good. It's more Americanized in that they lack some essentials of a halo halo such as the beans, jackfruit, etc. However, you can customize your own and add those stuff if you like. I got the ice cream sandwich & choose cheese + corn ice cream inside a pandesal (bread roll). It's such a simple thing to easily make at home, but rarely do I have that ice cream to assemble myself. I really like how they have Filipino ice cream such as the one I ordered (i swear the name sounds strange, but it's really good haha), ube, avocado, coconut, etc. The pandesal was warm...ish. I wish it was warmer or toasted. They have other desserts and boba drinks as well. I did not try it, but I feel like they would be good/ worth the try. 061 / 100 - 2016 YELP 100 CHALLENGE. Yummy, delicious shaved snow! I've been looking for a place that had shaved snow for a while now. There aren't any in Mira Mesa (booooooo), but this place is pretty close to where I work! My co-workers and I decided to go for some dessert for lunch and we settled on trying out Snoice. Thankfully today was pretty hot, so getting shaved snow and some boba was perfect. Parking here can be a bit of a b, but we parked in front of a donut shop a few doors down. Snoice is connected to a Filipino bakery, so you can imagine how surprised I was when I realized that Snoice is actually REALLY small and its tables are actually shared with the bakery haha. They have screens behind the register that tell you what flavors that have, so please be sure to pay attention to that and not to the website. I was hoping that they would have ube or honeydew for the shaved snow (which they do on the website!), but they didn't this time around. :( (It's ok, this just means I gotta visit again soon!) I ended up getting the original flavor (similar to vanilla bean ice cream) with mochi and boba for toppings. The portion I decided on was Medium. My co-workers decided to get boba drinks. K got a Thai tea and J got an ube blend with boba. Snoice is pretty reminiscent of a froyo joint. If you order your shaved snow to-go, they'll put it in a froyo cup, put the toppings on top, etc. Because I asked to dine in, I got my order on a plate instead. Our orders came out pretty quickly. J liked her drink a lot. She said the blend was just right and that the flavor wasn't lost. She said the boba lasted pretty well in there and that while her drink was cool, it wasn't cold enough to make the boba hard to chew. K, on the other hand, didn't seem to enjoy her Thai tea as much. :( When my shaved snow arrived, I was a little disappointed that it came on a paper plate. I was expecting it to be an actual plate, but I guess it's cheaper/less time consuming for them to have the shaved snow on a paper plate, so I'm not that upset. The original flavor is AWESOME. It tastes a lot like vanilla bean, was very creamy, and easy to eat. It didn't taste ice-heavy and really did remind me of froyo and ice cream. The boba didn't make a huge impact in making the dish more interesting, but the mochi really did. If you order a shaved snow, PLEASE be sure to get mochi! I'm so glad I found this place on Instagram a few years back and even more glad that my Sista was willing to make the 45 min drive to check it out. It was so worth the drive and it has become our favorite boba spot hands down! Their blended taro with boba is perfection! I ordered the ube wan blendobi and Thai tea float, by far my fav ube shake I've had. It's so rich and goes well together! Thai tea float was yummy too, had a lot of ice but very creamy and sweet.
