We finally ate here on our most recent visit to Chico, since we love barbecue. This apparently is an offshoot of a place in San Luis Obispo, as we discovered. Anyway, the place was very good and satisfying, albeit not outstanding, and the prices reasonable for the amount of food provided, and the sides are included. The ribs are great, but not outstanding. I got the full rack combo, with three different sauces: Sweet Carolina, Mo's Memphis, and Philthy Phils Sauce. The meat was well cooked and had nice smoky flavour, while the barbecue sauces were all very good and each quite different from the other. They also put just a judicious amount of sauce on the ribs, rather than drowning them in sauce, so the sauce complements the smoked mea, as it should. However, the ribs are little sparse and some parts were a bit dry, not as meaty and moist is the best are. 4 stars overall. The brisket was similarly very good, plenty of meat, smoky, with nice sauce. The sides - coleslaw, beans, corn bread, potato salad, were all good. The coleslaw was (again - see my other reviews) made with pre-shredded mix but at elast was prepared pretty well, with a proper amount of dressing and allowed to sit long enough to be pretty good. 3.5 stars. The beans and potato salad were all very good and enjoyable, although somewhat unmemorable (4 stars). The corn bread was fine but they provided cinnamon butter instead of honey butter, an odd choice fore which we did not care. They have self-serve fountain drinks and a decent beer selection. The place itself is a basic dining place, fine inside, with barbecue memorabilia, etc., and overall pleasant seating. Service was good. We would gladly go back if seeking barbecue when in Chico. Overall, this is a good basic barbecue place, nothing outstanding or special, but very good and enjoyable. read more

Came in with a good size group and that's one of the reasons we chose this place because they have a lot to choose from and they have good beers and lots of seating especially outside in the back. I had the big pig sandwich as did my son we also ordered the brisket ribs couple of the taco specials and some tri-tip They were all very good. I personally love the Carolina barbecue sauce and that was very good. They had enough beers on tap to make everybody happy, although I don't like Sierra Nevada and in Chico that's a problem cause it's everywhere. But overall very good service was nice. 2.5 stars if I could. I'd read great reviews so while visiting our family we decided try some meats and make a meal out of it at my folks house. There we 7 adults and 2 kids. We only ordered the tri tip (3lbs) and 3 1/2 chickens. Quantity was great. Being a newbie we phoned in the order and swung in to pick it up. The atmosphere was cool and smell delicious. Getting the meal home was a disappointment. $90+ dollars and the meats were very dry and no bbq sauce was provided. Maybe you had to ask? Our bad. Flavor was good but too dry to enjoy. I wanted to share my recent experience with this restaurant. Driving from Sacramento to Chico we had been to Sierra Nevada Taproom and restaurant previously, prior to COVID. Decided to revisit as we had a good experience there before. Walked up and found out they do not let non-service dogs in their outdoor eating area. We were really disappointed. We left there and headed in to downtown Chico and found this restaurant. Found they had a patio and were welcomed by staff! We asked if they allowed dogs on the patio. They said Yes! They also said they allowed the dog in so we could order our food. Very sweet people were there to save the day. We ordered our food that was delicious! Ate on their great patio and even were give a container to provide our dog water. Great food, the brisket and ribs were great! Great service, friendly service people and great location! Please support this business. They support their customers! We will be back! read more

We decided to take dad to Smokin' Mo's for Fathers Day. From the moment I walked in I liked the atmosphere. It kind of has a down home country feel to it. Ton's of stuff hanging on the walls like old signs, chairs, wooden pig cutouts with all the years they've won awards (for food I assume), pictures and lots of other stuff. It takes awhile to take it all in which I did while we waited for our food. Tables were all clean as well as everything else I could see. The folks behind the counter are friendly and seem like they want to serve and take care of you. They answered all our questions about meats and sauces and such and we all finally decided on what we wanted to eat. I might add that about 5 minutes in to eating the guy in the back came out and asked us how everything was. That's a nice bit of service that you don't always get. I ordered the "Loaded Fries". It's not on the menu but was on a "specials" board hanging at the counter. They were excellent. Lots of very tasty smoked tri tip smothered in a sweet, smoky sauce that tasted very good. The fries were cooked perfectly, just on the crispy side that I happen to like. I ate it all. Everyone else at our table liked their meals as well from the tri tip sandwich to the rack of smoked ribs. It all looked very good and tasted the same. Bottom line. Great service, great food and a cool atmosphere. I'll be back and think I'll try that BBQ cheese burger next time. read more

This joint has gone straight Downhill! Need to change the name to Jokin Mo's BBQ! Second time this year that I have gotten food that literally made me sick. I only went todayse I was in Chico shopping and I had $10 Mo's from the last lousy meal. Seriously, the ribs taste like they were a week or more old,. All dried out nearly a jerky with lots of grizzle and cartilage and no meat flavor! Sauce had far too much vinegar just like the potato salad, chunky onion and sour pickle juice or something. The corn muffin was dry and crumbly. Baked beans also vinegary, yet best part of the dinner! Sad, very sad, I can remember when I loved taking my family and friends. Don't know if it's new owners, management or they hire people that just don't know how to do good tasty food. Furthermore, what cost me $9 last time, was $19 today. The beans, cornbread, and potato salads weren't even kid size. So very sad there isn't an Everet & Jones or Missouri/Kansas Smokin Mo's here. They know finger licking good BBQ, no cutting corners! I had smokin mo's for the first time the other day with my boyfriend. He had the pork sandwich with beans and I had a grilled cheese with some chips. The grilled cheese was tasty and the homemade chips were great. For my boyfriends sandwich, the pork did not taste fresh, and it was very flavorless. He agreed with me and the only thing that gave it some flavor was the barbecue sauce. He also had a small side of beans on the side, very very small. Overall I want to say it was a 3.5/5. The interior is very clean and stylish, and the staff were very pleasant and efficient. I really liked the pulled pork, the sauce was good and the texture was just what I was hoping for. The ribs were dry on the ends (just a bite each) but besides that really good, it fell right off the bone and tasted great. The potato salad wasn't very potatoey but it was serviceable, and the corn muffins were good but tasted a bit weird at first. We had a 3-meat combination meal, for which we picked the baby back ribs, the chicken, and the "briscuit burnt ends". We also had the nachos appetizer with pulled pork. We liked the pulled pork so much that we wished we'd picked that as one of the 3 meats for our main course, so that we would have had a much larger portion of it. I put in an entrée express order and I only received half the order and instead of the root beer floats I ordered they sent me two orders of deep-fried muffins and when I called and complained try to get my order fixed they weren't accountable and sent me in the direction of entree express people. To get the root beer floats I had to pay for them. And when they came there was only one root beer float. And once again when I called to complain smokin mows was not accountable again put it off on the delivery company where I called the delivery company and they just refunded me the money for the one root beer float. Having lived in Houston for the last decade and recently returning to my hometown, I was in the mood for some sweet, juicy, meaty bbq. I didn't want to go in so I ordered on Chico's Entrée Express. Anyway, I'll bullet point my satisfaction: -Full Platter Ribs-Combo. This is a full rack broken into 3 different flavors. Damn, the ribs arrived hot, double wrapped in foil and when I opened it the steamy freshness his my nose. The Rib flavors kind of blended in but I didn't care. The ribs WERE fresh, moist, hot, meaty with some great flavors. The sides of Slaw and Potato Salad were small but tasty. The slaw was a little bland, but I easily fixed it, -Chicken Strips & Fries. Finally, chicken strips that don't seem massed produced. Most strips seem to be pulled out of a plastic bag in the freezer. These may have been, but they were some of the best, compared to I dunno, they were just good. -Mud Pie? Yeah, it needed more mud and less whipped cream. I wouldn't order it again. I wish they had a better choice of desserts. Maybe something like a pie or cake, -3 extra corn bread muffins....worth it. Wish there was more than just a tad of the honey butter...Oh well, another thing we can fix at home. THE BOTTOM LINE: I will be back. Definitely. read more

GROSS. GROSS. GROSS. Food was bland. Brisket was awful more like stew meat than actual real brisket, ribs that came from a frozen section at winco, muffins that were so dry you choke on them, beans were that of a can I bet. The only saving grace was their potato salad and fried green tomato. Also they dont clean their tables in between guests. I had my napkin on the table and it stuck to the table. I wiped it off with my wet nnapkin.Will never come back. Used to love this place too. read more
