The Smokey Point Rest Area on Southbound I-5.
    Tanis L.

The Smokey Point Rest Area is located in Arlington going Southbound on I-5. The big Red Cedar stump is located at the Northbound I-5 Rest Stop in Arlington. So if you are stopping and want to see the stump, make sure you are northbound on I-5. Both stops, the northbound rest stop with the stump and the southbound Smokey Point Rest Area are good places to stop. Both have big grassy areas you can walk around and picnic tables. Both stops also have public access restrooms. I like the added bit of history with the Red Cedar stump. At the Smokey Point Rest Area, there are maps and information about Washington State.

One of the dirtiest rest stops I've been to. The smell was awful, trash and toilet paper were everywhere.

    Giant Cedar!

I'm here for one thing and one thing only. The Giant Cedar stump! LOL. Calling all the Roadside Attraction Enthusiasts! This rest stop has a giant stump that makes for the perfect photo-op to add to your collection. All of that aside - this is a pretty good rest stop if I had to rate rest stops for any reason. There is Free Coffee when the volunteers are available. The restrooms are of rest stop quality but not too bad. There is a crap ton of parking here. They have two different lots - one for RVs and Semis and the other for regular cars so it makes it easier for everyone. But overall, I came for the Giant Cedar, lol. Just sayin'

A nice rest area conveniently located about half way between Seattle and Bellingham. The facilities are nicely kept up. I am always amazed at how busy this rest area is. If you are travelling with a motor home or camper and need a place to dump the sewer holding tank, they do have that service available also. Volunteer organizations often have free coffee (donation accepted).

We had a nice picnic dinner

I want to reach out to anyone that is thinking about going to Angel Of The Winds Casino…read more I recently had a major loss of approximately $20,000 at this casino and part of the reason that I lost the 20,000 was because the casino did not provide fair gambling to me as the player. I was threatened, intimidated, insulted, and verbally harassed by another player at the Baccarat table. Apparently, it was OK with Angel Of The Winds Casino because no security was called and the player was allowed to continue playing. This happened back in September 14 the weekend of my wife's birthday. I have been trying to get them to make this right and give me my money back because what they did was not following their own rules. I have had multiple meetings with the Stillaguamish tribal gaming commission, and they have decided that everything was legal that happened while I was gambling. What they don't know, is that giving money to another player a $500 bet is not accurate reporting and the Stillaguamish gaming commission is responsible for accurate reporting. Angel of the Winds has nice staff working there but the upper management seems to be corrupt. They don't want to give you there contact information and they lie to you about having a meeting to discuss the issues that I have. I have no faith in the Gaming Commission there either. The person I have been dealing with on this is not aware that his job is to make sure that customers get a fair gaming experience. He told me his job is to help protect the casino and players. His job is to make sure that there is fair play to all the players, not to cover for the casino screwing over individuals. I will post more on this but hopefully for now it will help people to realize that you need to be very careful if you decide to play at this establishment!

Oh, poo. First stop…read moreon the road trip to California. Left on schedule, making great time down Highway 5, I'm gonna hit Grants Pass before 6 pm!! Woo hoo!! Ferghal and Lola are zonked out and I hate to stop but I *gotta go*. As I make my way to the right side of the highway, the pups perk up and breathe their doggie breath down my neck . Much meefing and wild tail wagging. Pups loves them a road trip --- because that means Rest Areas!! They are dogs --- they are easily pleased. First order of business --- figuring out where the hell I am. I drove past Chehalis, but the rest stop sign *says* Chelhalis. I know that's wrong, but deep down I wonder if maybe I'm driving on some sorta road to hell and I've been unknowlingly driving in the Chehalis vortex --- because if there is such a thing --- it's not in middle of the ocean near Bermuda, No, no, no , it's here. In Chehalis. The place people dream of leaving. I could hardly stand staying long enough to pee. Which brings me to the second order of business: Clean bathrooms (but no toilet seat covers --- that just makes me cranky), free coffee, stale store bought cookies (some road stops have ladies who make cookies, this rest stop was staffed by a couple of retired truckers who found the cookies behind the seat in the rig). Now for the third order of business: c'mon pups... do your bidniss! Holy crap! I mean literally... Holy. Crap. There is dog poop everywhere. Ooooooh geeeeeez. I guess those "pick up after your pooch please" signs you see some places really help --- and if you're not gonna have toilet seat covers --- how 'bout some POOP BAGS!? YES I AM YELLING HERE. It coulda been a nice rest stop too --- couple of tables under the trees. Nice wide paths to walk around. It could have been so nice but for well, the poo. Hey! Look - they have WiFi!! Nevermind. Registration won't work --- I don't think I like this rest stop, they don't even have vending machines. Time to toutle on down the highway.

With views of Mount Rainier, glimpses of eagles, owls, shore birds and local wildlife it is a get away right in Seattle! The Audubon Society has a center where you can learn about local birds and their habitat, go on guided hikes and explore their gift shop which has all kinds of cool items to take home as a souvenir of a great day spent there. I highly recommend a visit.

While at Seward Park we decided to visit this Center. It's a welcoming space and open to the public. When we walked in we were greeted by an employee who mentioned that we could walk through the building, and recommended for us to check out the library. In the community room, there was a class being taught on emergency procedures for the wilderness. Very cool they offer classes and events here! The building is a mix of public and private space, so for the public areas, it's easy to go through it within an hour or so. The other rooms that are closed off are used for private offices and such. But I would encourage you to check out the library, which is the largest public room in the center. You can tell the space for the library was the sitting room for when the building's original use of when The Redfield Family lived upstairs. The bottom portion of the building was used as a concession stand back in the day. But the library now invites guests to check out the different books on wildlife, birds, conservation, travel, and anything else having to do with the great outdoors. Glad to have visited this historical building and learned about the Audubon Center's work. I would also suggest taking children here, as there were plenty of books for kids in the library, as well as taxidermy of birds that may be intriguing to them. The gift shop is mostly items suitable for children, too.
