I want to give the Acorn Motor Inn a 5 star review, but cannot. The room was great with substantial furniture, clean and updated bathroom, refrigerator and microwave and very comfortable beds. An excellent value for the money. They lost a lot of points because of no one on site in the middle of the night to deal with a noise problem. Two nights in a row we were awakened at 2 in the morning when the guest below us turned their TV on so loud that we could clearly hear the dialog of the show and commercials. This lasted until 5 in the morning when they turned it off. Sure, occasionally you'll run into an inconsiderate guest. The next night, the same thing happened. I finally had enough at 4 in the morning and went to find the room and complain. When I knocked and knocked, no answer. I asked a woman in the lobby if the room was hers and she finally said it was but refused to turn the TV down. I used the phone in the lobby to contact the manager for late check ins, yet it didn't connect me with anyone. read more

We chose this hotel because of the reviews. The first thing I noticed was the smell. There was none. No mustiness, bleach or harsh chemicals. This is a big deal to someone suseptible to strong odors. The quality furniture, pictures and TV with tons of cable stations are a huge bonus. Absolutely spotless without even a discoloration mark on the grout in the bathroom. The carpet was clean, too. The staff are warm and friendly and we were surprised to have bagels and muffins at check out. All of this with the low price tag makes it a real bargain! read more

I came in really late from traveling Virginia to Washington and wanted to book motel, the guy at desk doesn't read English very well Or write, I'm profoundly deaf and I have two ESA dogs that he have to charge fee on which shouldn't have because it's illegal to charge service animals on that, and thinking it was okay that I'm deaf but not realizing that my partner isn't deaf and she's a nursing working 16 hours and wanted to sleep and rest, I wasn't even warned about construction was happening right by the window at 9am that he put us in and it woke my partner up and had my dogs wounded up, I called the front desk, the owner didn't understand what I was trying to explain, he keep repeating saying yes there's construction on pipes, so I hung up and my partner called and had whole of things happening where he laughed that she said so you thought it was okay because she was deaf?...that's quite bit baffled to me. So please DO not book this motel! I won't recommend it at all!!! Online it costs $97 dollars for non smoking room with two queen beds and it charged me $149 per night and that's like double rate for that in person and I personally think because of me being deaf with two dogs should costs more. So beware of that! I'll show receipts and online services. Not recommending at all! I would claim that he's not understanding English in writing to run a motel at all, just a fair warning! read more

Gary the owner was extremely nice and hospitable! He gave my hubby and I a free upgrade to a honeymoon suite with so much extra room for our 1yr old to run around in! It had a separate living area with couch, desk and mini fridge and microwave. The bathroom was also spacious with a jetted tub as well! Thank you Gary!!! We are impressed for sure!! read more

WORST PLACE TO STAY IN OAK HARBOR: DO NOT STAY- Firstly, this motel is very overpriced. The motel is so outdated. The room wasnt spacious as it said, and is very narrow but mainly clean. I asked for extra pillows and the owner is sarcastic doing so. The next day, my mom and I just asked a simple question asking if it is okay to bring our friend's service dog in the room while we get ready for the night. He said no, since emotional support dogs aren't service dogs, arguing with my friend and us even though he is registered with the card and it's illegal to turn them away. When we tried walking away, he kept following and trying to argue. He YELLED at us to " Get Out!" Saying he'd charge us $500 extra. While, the dog was still in the car never stepping foot in the motel. The side doors stay open 24-7, letting anyone in. It is so loud during the night with door slams, and banter from the halls. We would've left if we had somewhere else to go, but sadly we didn't. Next morning, we wake up to find he charged an extra $140 for a no show rate that we weren't even notified about, and clearly we showed. We did have this dropped by another employee. Going out and talking with the locals, they were horrified that we were staying there. Just, be aware. We are definitely notifying booking. read more

I've stayed at this place many times over the last 5 or so years and never had an issue until last night. When I first arrived there was this one dude who was arguing with another person (an employee). The situation seemed to be getting heated so I yelled out "be cool and make a good choice." The situation diffused and that should have been my first clue to leave, but since I had never had a bad experience I just wrote it off as a mishap. Fast forward to later in the evening (8:00ish) and different guy knocked on my door looking for the previous occupant. He was upset but it's not my problem and I quickly shut and locked the door. I shouldn't have opened the door but, luckily, I learned from that mistake. This will be helpful for the next part of my story. It's now around 9:00ish and the dude from the argument earlier in the afternoon is intoxicated and is knocking/pounding on my door and yelling PUSSY at me through my door and threatening me. I don't open the door and call the front desk and he comes up and yells at the guy and I call the cops. The dude knocks on my door again and threatens me. I don't open the door and immediately call the cops again. I describe the individual to the cops and they talk to him and he tells them it wasn't him etc and everything is my fault. So they get him back in his room and the situation is diffused once again. I receive more knocks on my door and call the police back. The dude is eventually escorted off the property (around 11:30 p.m.). Around midnight I get a call from someone on the hotel room phone looking for the former occupant because he wanted to buy drugs. The person on the phone said "I heard you have something good to sell." I immediately call back down to the front desk and tell him that he needs to contact the police because the former occupant must have been selling. I also tell the owner that I expect a full refund and he argues with me that no one could have possibly called my room because he would know about it and he said he would only give me a two day refund. I barricaded my door from the inside just in case some unknown shadowy figure tried bust in thinking I was something else. I received another call to my room at 2:11 a.m. but I did not answer it. I assume it was another individual looking for the same thing. I didn't sleep very well that night. After checking into another hotel early the next morning I go back to the Acorn Motor Inn with my Uncle who was going to be my advocate and help me get my full refund. The owner, Gary, argues with me again saying that it was impossible for anyone to call my room because he would know about it and that he will only refund two days instead of three. I explain to him that understand the circumstances I can only accept a full three day refund. He refuses so I took the two day refund and will get the rest of the money back by contacting my credit card company. I can no longer recommend this hotel. I don't recommend anyone stay here. I hate to post this review but I feel it's necessary since the owner is not making the situation right. I have given him opportunities to do so. I know this place has some bad reviews and I never payed attention to them because my stay was always pleasant. I know this hotel was really bad about 10 years ago until he refurbished it, but it's definitely not a safe place to stay. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money and go elsewhere until the management decides they actually want to do a good job. Thanks for listening. read more

We traveled to Whidbey Island and stayed 9 nights. We travel with our cat. This place is the nicest place we've stayed at with our cat. The rooms are big, there's a refrigerator, microwave, and a large tv. The location is great, especially for staying over a week. There is a Laundromat across the street on the right side and grocery store across the street in front. This is walking distance to the cute downtown and local restaurants. The coffee is always available in the lobby. Each morning the lobby has muffins, great when you want a quick bite. read more

I don't give many bad reviews, but Acorn Motor Inn has earned one. My wife and I decided to do a Christmas road trip and Acorn was our Christmas Day check-in. Check-in went fine, the room was super dated but clean although the carpet in room 217 had bleach and red finger nail polish stains. The beds were adequate, but the bathroom smelled moldy. That is the "good" part of the review. The bad part was some of the clientele that was also staying there. We believe that there are some locals staying there long term. These people were seedy, up all night, with visitors knocking on the doors at all hours. Probably drugs or girls. 2nd floor side doors stayed open all night in 36° weather. At 10pm a couple of guys in hoodies argued in the lobby for 30 minutes and nobody stopped them. We slept good until 5:30am when door knocking resumed. It didn't feel safe and we don't recommend it for anyone. Hard pass. read more

Have to start by saying My husband and I are frequent travelers, and appreciate nice hotels. When We walked in the door and it REEKED of CIGARETTE SMOKE. I confirmed that our room was smoke free and she said said "that's what you reserved". Well we got in the room and it was horrible! It smelled really bad! They had the windows open, so you know they we're trying to air it out! The bedding was old fashioned, microfiber blankets that were RIPPED and STAINED, and the THINNEST sheets I have ever seen. Unfortunately, there were no other hotels available for the two nights we were there, so we were stuck staying. I left a rain coat on one of the chairs, grabbed it the next day and it reeked. I was pissed! The chairs and carpet were nasty too! All of which smelled like smoke. Please note that past reviews of this place are DATED, and mine is the NEWEST REVIEW. This review is based on their "cancellation policy" We are two seniors on restricted incomes. After spending 8 days with no water due to a frozen well pump, including Christmas Day, we longed for warm showers. So on December 29 at 6:03pm I made a reservation for the 30th with a 3:00pm check in. Unfortunately that night it snowed even more and we had high winds. This caused snow drifts and we couldn't get our car out of our driveway. We both have heart conditions that prevents us from shoveling snow, so there was nothing we could do. I called them first thing that morning and explained the situation and asked for a refund. That's when they showed me the type of people they are. ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS OR CANCELLATIONS. Yes, I saw where it was posted on their website. I get it. It's their business and they can make up any policy they want. My complaint was our situation. We didn't cancel because we just changed our minds, we physically couldn't get there. I attempted several times to explain our situation but I was told the same answer.... NO CANCELLATIONS. How cold and non compassionate of them. We had been without water during freezing temperatures for days and needed a hot shower. Now we're still without water, day 12 (we're renters) and we're out $132! And at Christmas time? It shows their lack of compassion for their fellow neighbors and their greed for the almighty buck. There was not even a Cancellation Fee offered which I found is quite common. Sooo...save your money and give it to one of the many cleaner and brighter motels that are close by. Because a organization that's "supposed to be" a service and hospitality business, that'll cheat seniors, will be cheating everyone...guaranteed! read more

I wanted to give you some feedback on our very disappointing stay this past weekend. My husband and I always stay at Acorn Motor Inn when we go to Oak Harbor for the drive-in. We have always been pleased with the quality and cleanliness of the rooms. We have given frequent recommendations to friends and family for when they join us at the drive-in or pass through town. I rave about the updated furnishings, art, and bed coverings and how they're not the typical old dingy low-end motel type but nice things you would expect to have in your own guest room at home. This past weekend was my birthday and I wanted to go to the drive-in and stay at the Acorn Motor Inn to celebrate. So last week I made a reservation for a queen sized bed expecting to have the same high quality room we have come to expect. After checking in, we were surprised to be directed to a duplex complex next to the inn. Initially thinking we wouldn't mind an upgrade to a suite at no charge and we assumed it would be the same high standard of furnishings and cleanliness. Upon returning from the drive-in at 3am we were horrified at our accommodations. The carpet was thin, old, and stained. The wall behind the front door had a hole. The furniture was old, drab, and dingy (except for the obvious upgraded pieces). The bathtub was clean but old with marks from old non-slip surfaces that had been redone - clean but still nothing I'd want to take a bath in. The curtains were old and wrinkled, the sofa was old, saggy and uncomfortable. The mattress felt like a trampoline and the duvet was old and ugly. The most horrifying thing we found, something we have never before encountered at even the dingiest motel, the sheets had clearly not been changed since the last guest. The bottom sheet had several strands hair and was pressed down onto the mattress and had clearly been slept in. By the time we discovered this it was 4am so we just covered the bed with our own blanket brought from home (theirs had holes in it) and slept in our clothes. I'm not sure we will ever want to stay at Acorn Motor Inn again. In the remote chance we do, we will be sure to check in early, make sure we're not sent to the dingy duplex out back, and thoroughly inspect the room for cleanliness. We will certainly never make a recommendation for anyone to stay here again. Update: emailed this feedback to their manager and got no response. read more

My friends and I stayed here the night before Whidbey Island Marathon/Half Marathon. She booked probably like 6 months prior to the event and she got a pretty good deal! The owner of the Inn is an Asian (assume he is a Chinese). He called my friend a few times to make sure we would still need the room for the night before the race. We checked in on Saturday afternoon. Due to the race schedule, we requested late checkout and the owner said YES! We were able to stay until 1PM to check out and everyone had a shower before we left the town. Two queen size beds in the room and we requested a folding bed. Since I am the only one who didn't run a marathon, I slept on the folding bed! There's bagels and coffee in the lobby the next morning. I guess that would be our complimentary breakfast. We didn't really have them because we brought our own food. The amenity is not bad. It felt like they maintain very well. Overall, it's a nice place to stay. Yes, we were surprised too. The front of the place scared us and we nearly drove off. Once we saw the room we stayed. The bed was super comfortable. There were areas that were scrimped on such as the towels, sheets, soap and shampoo. There are also areas that are really overlooked such as the spots on the floors, and the windows. Clean the windows! There was a darling little garden area outside but we couldn't stand the scuzzy windows to enjoy it. read more

My travel companion (a disabled person with a service animal) and I reserved a room here and were turned away by the desk manager because of her dog. Under the ADA, it is illegal to do this: http://www.ada.gov/qasrvc.htm Even when shown documentation for why she required a service dog (which we are not required by law to do), the manager demanded further documentation and in fact raised his voice to a yell. Clean, good price, but two problems 1. The only place to plug in chargers i.e. phone, I-pad, watch was a power strip hard mounted to the wall behind the desk at floor level. Sheesh... this place, I wanted to assume all the bad reviews were just crabby customers.. but unfortunately not the case.. we reserved non smoking, smelled horrible in our room, like cigarettes & urine, (they allow pets, that's why we stayed here & because no vacancy anywhere else) Weird activity constantly, both end doors constantly open, for whoever to walk in, & there was literally mattresses on the side of the building when we pulled in.. why we didn't turn back then.. idk, I had 2 small children with me & just didn't feel very safe while staying there, because of the weird activity... (you know what I mean.) we stayed out as much as possible, even at one point after we settled in we got a knock on the door, & they asked if we wanted them to clean our bathroom floor?? Wth? That in itself was weird.. made me uncomfortable even more, like why? Why do you need in our room after we're just getting settled in, the "good reviews" on google are a joke, probably fake reviews tbh, there's no way those were real. We also got charged an extra $15 after our stay here.. Another concern thing I really really wish I would have known prior to staying, which is something I found out after our stay, they had to vacate & shut down the whole hotel & had people in hazmats suits to disinfect clean the because there was a meth lab there?? First off, this is a late review... I stayed here back in April of 2012, but only know have signed up for Yelp. My husband and I wanted to get away for a night on our 'babymoon' (I was due in June). We chose the cheapest hotel we could find b/c really, how often do you hang out in the room, except to sleep? it was the NCAA finals that weekend so we scouted out sports bars in the area and found a decent one. We planned on checking in, dropping our stuff off, then leaving. We got in the room, and within 30 seconds decided to change our plans. We went to Safeway across the street and got food and drinks, then came back to the room. Why? This place was so nice. Big screen TV, brand new loveseat, new bed, new decor, new bathroom... The front desk guy told us they just renovated and wow, it was obvious. Why sit in a bar for hours, pay too much for food and drinks when you can watch sports on a big TV with no pants? :) haha. The breakfast in the morning was fine, nothing fancy, but filled us up. Truly though, the room was the highlight. It not only looked new, but smelled new. I hate the smell of musty hotel rooms. In the morning, we gushed to the manager how happy we were with the room. We paid $55 for it! He was happy that we were happy. On the way out to the car, he ran out and asked me to write a nice review online. So, to the manager of the Acorn Inn, I'm sorry this took so long, but here it is. We will definitely be back, though I'm sure they will probably raise the prices a bit once word gets out. Oh, and don't reserve online. You have to pay a fee and so does the hotel. We loved our stay at the Acorn Inn for an entire week over Christmas. The rooms were very clean and I'm a picky person. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location is very convenient to historic waterfront shops and windjammer park to walk along the beach. We went to Deception Pass state park several times. It's only a short drive away. There are also grocery stores, Whidbey Coffee shop, and a pharmacy near. We walked across the street to a laundromat to wash clothes before we left. This place is very conveniently located, extremely clean, and well priced. We will be back! read more

Good stop for business or government employees who need an overnight room. Honors Government rate. Location is close to the waterfront, Windjammer Park and within walking distance to historic downtown. The rooms are clean, well decorated and cared for, and the parking is easy. Across the street is a Starbucks, Haggens and a good Thai restaurant. They are walking distance from downtown where you will find more restaurants and shops to choose from. The staff are courteous and friendly. This is a locally-owned lodge so staying here you won't have to worry about getting signed up for any Rewards Redemption or clubs like that. They have Wi-Fi, fridges and microwaves in the rooms. The only thing they don't have his coffee pots. Don't worry they have a nice little breakfast waiting for you in the morning. This place has certainly made it's stamp in my life for the past 12 years. And I think because of it's new ownership the place has certainly made huge strides into becoming a better live-able location to stay at in this little town of Oak Harbor. The customer service has certainly taken a step up over the years as well. The blankets here are not great, but this does give you that warm and fuzzy feeling while you are inside. I'm not even sure where to begin. Long story short, we had a reservation for the Acorn in August. There was a misunderstanding with some of the folks in our travel party and we actually ended up being about 75 mile away from the Acorn after our sight seeing day. I called and asked if they would be gracious enough to let us out of our reservation (I had looked on travelocity and saw they still has rooms for that night), I cannot even explain how rude the owner/manager was on the phone. He refused to budge and was very difficult. In the end he hung up on me after spending about 2 minutes screaming. I couldn't get a word in edgewise. I ended up losing the 90 bucks for the room but kept far away and quite frankly, I'm glad. read more

Now the owner, he is the most rude human I have ever come into contact with. We will never stay again because of how he spoke and treated us upon check in. I'm giving this Hotel 5 stars mostly because of what you get for the price. It was recently renovated and looks great now and is a steal compared to the other hotels in the area. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated, the owner and staff were super nice, and they provided juice, coffee, bagels and pastries (even though it wasn't mentioned on the website). The website isn't so functional, but they gave us the same rate over the phone without any issues. If I'm ever in Oak Harbor again, I'll stay here without hesitation! read more
