Poor management and cleanliness The heater was so loud and roared all night and made clicking noise. The bathroom shower/tub had soap scum on the walls and mold in the grout, plus hair on the floor. The kitchenette is rusted and from 1970. The room was very loud due to no flooring. I decided to talked to the front desk and make the aware. I talked to a very nice front desk rep and she was very kind and empathetic. She wanted me to talk the manager with my concerns as well. The manager was not concerned and had horrible customer service. When I told him about the situation he Abruptly cut me off to let me know they are getting new heaters and as far as cleanliness... he brushed me off. He proceeded to tell me he was having the girls clean it. That's it. No "I'm sorry" or "this is unfortunate " or any kind of concern. Plus he had a smug look on this face. Not good I, then, proceeded to let him know that his front desk lady has more empathy and concern for this business than he did. I also let him know that he was a terrible manager and had terrible customer service. And FYI their continental breakfast is a joke. It was a 7-11 pick a crap display. read more

We didn't think too much into it but still thought it was a red flag because the front office told us our room and ready which you'd assume means clean. we then noticed that you HAVE to have the heater on in the cabin or you'll freeze. We closed the bathroom door for obvious reasons and the bathroom is always freezing because the heat won't reach the bathroom. We left to hang out with friends and I wanted to hop in the shower so I turned on the shower while I got my clothes ready once I was done doing that I opened the shower door to notice that the drain wasn't draining the water I hopped in anyways because I needed to shower. Mid way to the shower the water drains completely good for us but then I notice there is soap residue on the shower wall and completely grossed me out so I tried to hurry up only to realize that the water was getting cold didn't even get to condition my hair unfortunately. Fast forward to the present we wake up wanting coffee so I go and look in the basket only to find a blonde hair in the basket next to the loose straws...I move the hair and everything is chillen until I go to put water in the kureeg...there's a hair in the kureeg where the water goes..I took that hair out I was honestly fed up and forgot to take a picture. I let just water heat up within the kureeg to take out any dirt. I went online to see yelp reviews on this place and one of the reviews I saw said to look under the bed because they don't vacuum so I did and surprise surprise there's dirt, a metal wire, and some pink thing...yay... read more

You know, for the price, charm, location, and the friendly, friendly staff, this place deserves a 4 star. Sure the rooms are outdated and could use additional upkeep, but you can tell the owners and staff do their best to keep the charms on this Dutch style hotel. As others have said, it's really a motel but the outside Dutch decorations including the working windmill, it's worth the stay. Sure you need a dead bolt and room darkening curtains. The breakfast is just packaged foods like hard boiled eggs, box cereals, nurtrigrain bars, yogurt and milk in cartons. The beds were super comfy, thank you for a nice stay! read more

The Dutch are renowned for their frugality and practicality, so I probably shouldn't have been surprised to discover that this inn is actually a roadside motel. The pictures online obscured this fact somewhat, but I could have been a bit more diligent in my research, too. Regardless, my wife and I enjoyed our experience here, and absolutely would stay again. We checked in late; past operating hours, in fact, but thankfully a (very friendly and welcoming) night attendant is always onsite (call the number posted online, or on the door to reach them), who got us situated in a handful of minutes. Our room was about what you'd expect from a motel: barebones, but clean, with a comfy bed, serviceable furniture, and all the (very) basic amenities. Great centralized location (both in Oak Harbor, and Whidbey Island in general) means that every point of interest is just a short drive away. Pre-packaged continental breakfast is served from 7am-10am in the quaint little dining area in the office building. Check-out at 11. Beds are clean and comfy. I learned retroactively that there are rooms with fireplaces, Jacuzzis, and apparently some small private cabins on the back of the lot, so if and when we ever return to Oak Harbor, we'll probably end up booking one of those, instead. Temper your expectations, and the Auld Holland Inn will meet all your travel lodging needs. If you, or your travel companions, are the types of people that spend more time in the hotel than your destination, and absolutely have to be pampered and pandered to for all their basic needs, try Captain Whidbey down the road. For the rest of us, looking for an inexpensive, convenient, off-beat, and memorable place to rest your head without breaking the bank, the Auld Holland Inn will satisfy your somniferous specifications better than a pair of wooden clogs...and more comfortably, too! read more

If you like the smell of mold, your feet sticking to a filthy floor and getting treated rudely by staff you must stay here. See photos of dust balls on light fixtures and vents, cracked walls, cracked tiles, carpet stains. The worst was when we took a washcloth and gently swiped it over the carpet a few times- it turned black. Or maybe the questionable leftover pubes by the bath tub? It's frankly a toss up. No wonder we woke up congested. The jetted tub was a nice feature and we reserved the upgraded room for it. But, you had to refill it five times to wait for the water heater to reheat and put out warm water. So plan for 75 minutes to set up your relaxing bath. We had cancelled our refundable reservation from Expedia because the gentleman at the front desk told us on the phone they were more flexible with cancellations and had better rates. We could not make it the first night but needed an hour before check-in to change for a wedding so we called the front desk again and a nice lady told us not to cancel until the day of in case our plans changed, and that they were flexible since we booked through them. Another nice young man we called at the front desk to notify we would not be arriving until the 2nd day told us "no problem" we would be charged for one night and we were good to check-in early to change. Upon check-in we noticed we were charged for both nights and the rude staff smirked and told us that was not the hotel's policy and he didn't know why those people would say that since they had worked there a long time. It would have been ok if he had just explained it kindly instead of making us feel stupid. He then cut off questions about check out and curtly said he would get to that after signing and initialing that we understood the rules and we would "owe him $95 if we lost his keys." At checkout it was a pleasant gentlemen who said regardless of the policy, it should have been honored and taken care of...he didn't do it either. Want to stay in a decrepid dank room where you need shoes to protect your feet from filth? Want to get treated poorly by rude or staff who don't know policies and make false assurances? We were forced to choose this location on short notice when a relative came for a visit. They were arriving in Mt Vernon at 8, so because WE were paying for the room, we thought we'd be able to pick up the key, and leave snacks in the room for our guest. Wrong. The young desk clerk had to ask a surly older man (owner?) whether we could do this, and we were turned down flat. I asked if we could have the key for just a few mins, to leave the items. "No". They had to have a picture ID of the person staying in the room. Well, you WILL, when they get there at 9. Nope. No one in the room until then. Did I mention we were the ones paying? ***** They also charged the ENTIRE AMOUNT for the room UP FRONT- be aware. This will make it very difficult if you want to leave!********** I think this is because they knew we'd probably leave if we saw the room. It's a "roadside motel" all right. Doors open off the parking lot, which all face the busy street out front. This room had double beds, on the thought that at least one of them wouldn't be tubbed out. The standard window ac/heat unit was chugging away when we finally got our guest in the room at 9pm. The beds had a thick duvet and a sheet. We had to supply a thinner blanket for our guest. There is a refrigerator- surprise. As far as I can tell, the morning breakfast is cereal, milk, chocolate milk, and a fruit. There are only a couple of chairs, so our guest had to carry his breakfast items back to his room. He wasn't impressed, at all. Maid service is difficult. You call when you want it. The thin towels were better used for bath mats, and I had to supply our guest with "real" towels. He said on most days they did not supply a bath mat at all. Note- they use regular keys for the doors. There is a $75 dollar charge if you lose it. I don't give any stars for a giant windmill cranking around. The Dutch theme simply brings to mind frugality, and yeah, that's what you get. I don't know why reviews mention the "friendly and courteous" staff. Not sure who they encountered. My final advice is look- you don't HAVE to stay on Whidbey. If you can't book one of the actual hotels here, then go ahead and stay in Mt Vernon or at the casino hotel. It's not worth traveling back to 1950 to stay here. read more

In fact, we had started off at Queen Anne Motel in another part of town, but they were booked solid, glad we found Auld Holland. I travel a fair amount for work and thought this place place looked like a nice way to support a local spot but after checking in, it was evident that this is the type of place you see in horror movies where you just feel unsettled about what you're going to get. The staff was nice enough but the Cozy Cabin was scary to say the least and it honestly made me feel unsafe and exposed. I understand they advertise cozy but the small heating unit installed in the wall was the only way to warm the space. It was either freeze or be over heated because I wasn't about to open any windows, especially since they looked out at an old work shed with a number of old Trucks parked near by. I would never let my wife stay in a place like this by herself. I had to move a side table to access a power outlet only to find old sauce packets and napkins left behind making it evident that they do the bare minimum to clean their space. The Auld was a budget friendly hotel that worked perfect for what we needed which was a hotel in this area while on a short road trip. Location was great for Deception Pass and exploring. Definitely an older hotel that hasn't been updated but was clean and bed was comfortable and staff were super friendly. My husband could stare at his dream car (aka out Zadarts rental) from our room which he loved. We never tried the Included breakfast and our fireplace didn't work. The photo was taken at the end of our 15 hour stay, but basically the only difference is that we slept in the beds, so they are not made. Let's just say, we did not go barefoot in the room. There is a push button handle lock on the motel door. When you are inside, there is the ability to use the deadbolt, but it is beyond me why only a push button lock is the way the door is secured when the renter is not in the room, especially when the deadbolt has a keyed option. When I opened the door of room 102, I was SHOCKED at the condition of the stained carpet. SHOCKED! I understand I only paid $70+ in an off season for a tourist area, but come on--Put a vinyl floor or something other than carpet in that room. At least our bathroom, the fridge, the microwave and the sheets were clean. All the furniture is circa 1950's, but not nice 1950's furniture. The chair seats are stained and the "wood" for the rest of the pressed wood furniture has water damage. Please begin to charge people more and update your motel so it feels clean. I do agree with another reviewer that the heater made the room HOT or COLD, because unfortunately it was either on or off. The exterior door had a 1/4" gap at the threshold, so besides hearing the traffic driving by less than 30 yards away, there was light...and I am confident, bugs in the summer are welcomed into the room. But I will digress and revert back to the nice employees and manageable price for the 2 stars. DO NOT expect a value for what you paid. The bathrooms are this location are unfortunately moldy and the smell of the mold permeates throughout the entire room. It's similar to smelling a damp sponge that's been unattended for a few weeks. Recent visit to this local hotel met my expectations. The room was spacious and had a fireplace and jacuzzi tub. A tad brisk but the fireplace warmed the room up nicely. Loved-loved the jacuzzi tub. Breakfast was continental with breakfast bars and hard boiled eqqs for those of us on the go. Parking was plentiful and the hotel was within walking distance of the Mill restaurant. My only comment was the WiFi signal was weak at my portion of the hotel. Prices were reasonable. Gym and sauna on premises. They do not take cash payments. Try it you'll like it. read more

We stayed recently for a night here and it was a good experience. The room was neat and clean. The beds were firm and comfortable, the restroom is updated and has nice heated floors. Do note due to its close proximity to Whitbey Island's Naval Air base, the morning and nights may be filled with lots of fighter jet noise in the skies. The staff were all welcoming and always eager to serve our needs. The breakfast is continental but they had an abundant variety of bagels, breads, jams & jif peanut butter . Breakfast also included hard boiled eggs, cereal, juices, yogurt, fig newtons,oatmeal, granola bars, fruits, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. The only hiccup i had was my room Wifi voucher code didn't work past midnight but they gave me the next days code in the morning. The price here is reasonable and i would recommend it as a place to stay in the area. read more

One of the worst places I've ever stayed and I've stayed in a lot of places at 63 years old. Where to start.....the bed skirt has food on it, the bathroom is very small, no place to put your items, the shower walls have huge cracks. The light fixtures are from the 50's, the bathroom mirror has someone's toothpaste all over it. I went to the front desk to ask for a blanket and they have no extras ! No iron or ironing board, and the closet is musky smelling, and the carpet is gross. The wood is rotting on the trim. Don't waste your money !! read more

I don't normally do reviews but felt it was important for any one considering staying in the cabins. I was there from 6/28/24 to 6/30/24 they are noting like the pictures on the web site. The first step to the cabin is broken and I almost fell thru it, The door does not have a complete seal around it the gap in the upper left hand side was large enough for bugs to come in. Around the shower there is also water stains and mildew, so many cobwebs. Cobwebs can be expected in a cabin but you think they could have cleaned them the first night. Last thing is for a place that doesn't allow pets why did I find a fle on me? Yes I did ask the first night if I could switch to a room and sadly they were all booked up. For almost $160 a night this was the worst money I have spent. I wish I could post photos that I took. read more

I enjoyed my room last week. Clean and priced well. Only 9 miles from Deception Pass. Only 4 stars in that it is further away from places to eat. There is a pleasant restaurant next to them where I enjoyed a lunch. Not pet friendly and provides basics for breakfast. Cereals, milk, good coffee, muffins, yogurt etc. Quiet. Shower/bath with strong water pressure and complimentary shampoo etc. that are all natural. Staff is great and immensely helpful and will go out of their way to meet a request if possible. read more

Do not stay here This inn's regard for safety, privacy and hygiene are absolutely disgusting. My boyfriend and I stayed here a while thinking it was a nice cheap option. and with the pandemic coming on we were struggling. We first stayed in the hotel area before my boyfriend started work and before they moved us into a poor excuse of a long term living trailer. While we were in the hotel we had multiple occasions of hotel workers and housekeepers watching us leave our room, and come in while we were, or they thought, were not there. (The do not disturb sign was on the door at all times as I am anal about other people cleaning and going through my things) each time they just let themselves in the did not clean as they claimed so when confronted. they were obviously and blatantly checking out and looking through our stuff. After this they finally moved into a trailer in the very back that we we requested for a month before actually getting in because they were "cleaning it spotless and fixing it up". But When we arrived at night it was freezing, the heating system did not work and they left us nothing to keep us warm, we had no cable, internet, working stove or oven, toaster, the place was absolutely filthy with black mold and dirt everywhere, and the maids left all their very old smelly supplies in the corner of the dining room with most of the blinds ripped down. Every time we called we got "I don't know" or no answer. The first week here our plumbing went out and used toilet water filled our tub. We couldn't get ahold of anyone for days. And then an incident after this almost had me calling the police. One day two men I do not know knocked and I did not answer as I do not recognize these two full grown men. I proceed to try and get some rest as I was very sick from the mold(literally in and out of the hospital), but around 20 minutes later I hear someone unlocking and opening my front door, letting themselves in. I peer out of my bedroom and see a large man just standing in my trailer. I was literally so frightened and shaking, wanting to cry, my heart was beating out of my chest. I walked out to him just staring at me. This man doesn't even tell me who he is just states he needs to look at the fire extinguisher (he didn't) and "sorry, no answer". I hid in my room scared lifeless as this man just stood in the living room looking around. They thought nobody was home and just let themselves illegally, no notice, into the place I resided. They did not preform maintenance and there was no illegal activity's taking part for them to just walk in. Just a bad excuse to come in and look through. What if something had happened or I was sleeping undressed?? Fast forward and we're packed up and leaving, about to head 3 hours to our new place. We head to the store to get snacks and my grandmas to say goodbye. Afterwords heading to get gas. After a few hours at my grandmas I go to ring my card and it does not work. Confused because I was sure I had money for gas I check my account. They illegally charged me 4 times all different amounts trying to see how much money they could get from me after I left. So I headed back and confronted them. They argued they were allowed to charge us after we left but after asking to see where that rule is stated or written down, admitted what they did was illegal, and then waited two days before putting the money back on my card. They refuse to give me the owners number and neither he or the manger will call me or get back to me. Do not stay here. The most shady disrespectful place I have ever been. There's so much more than this but I could write for days it's ridiculous. read more

Stayed here for two nights last week, and would stay again! I picked this place almost entirely at random, based on price (affordable) and location (easy drive to the Coupeville ferry for a jaunt to Port Townsend, and not too far from Seattle). For $300 we got one of the suites with a jetted Jacuzzi tub for two nights: a nice deal at very short notice. Oak Harbor isn't necessarily a *town* that I would heartily recommend for tourism, but the Auld Holland is just lovely. Bear in mind my biases: I like quirk, I like quaint, I like places that time sorta forgot. I love those stores that sell skulls and antique medical equipment and dolls and ye olde paintings and glassware. I like flea markets and back road yard sales. The Auld Holland is a bit "time forgot-ish." It seems to have been decorated in the 1970s and not updated since. The main building is in the shape of a windmill. There are cut-out painted wooden tulips everywhere. The lobby features a massive fireplace and heavy beams. Rooms include mirrors bedecked with cherubim and walls with hand painted sprays of flowers (very very pretty, actually) and pastel blue or lavender wall paper. There are delft tiles and plates and pictures of families dressed up in traditional wooden shoes. And it's great! The place is obviously well loved. It is CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN, if a tad worn in spots. There's no smell of sneaky smoking (it's a non-smoking joint and this is clearly well enforced). There's absolutely no smell of age, or rot, or damp. Our suite had a small gas-jet fireplace (!!!), a table and chairs, a long low dresser, a Keurig, a microwave, a small fridge WITH A FREEZER, a Queen bed with a lovely old school bedspread, and a sparkling clean bathroom featuring the aforementioned Jacuzzi jetted tub. There was plenty of hot water. The fireplace worked! The air conditioning unit worked! The Keurig supplies featured decaf coffee! The TV was a big flat screen (so, yeah - I guess they *have* updated since the 1970s) and we got excellent reception and the right channels to watch the Women's World Cup. There's HBO for free, which I don't even have at home. The WiFi is easy to connect to and speedy. There's a tiny gym downstairs (with a TV) and a sauna room. We didn't have the right gear to try those out, but it's cool to know they are there. Included in the price of our room was a Continental breakfast each day. They do a nice job of this. There's a fridge with individual yogurts, a basket of hard cooked eggs, milk, and orange juice. There are packets and jars of cereal, pots of instant oatmeal, granola bars, cheese and peanut butter crackers, fig newtons, and many kinds of bread and bagels for toast. There are even little individual tubs of Jif peanut butter! There's a modern Keurig for coffee, there's decaf tea... and there are cute little tables to sit at surrounding the big hearth. Staff are friendly and welcoming and not too overbearing: as a weird introvert, I found the service Just Right. So - kudos and thanks to all at the Auld Holland Inn! read more

The bed head board was too close to the wall. The staff is very helpful, polite and when we ran out of toilet paper they came to our rescue. When we first arrived and notice that there was hair in the tub, I called the front desk and the woman offered to move us or to come and clean the tub for us. We stayed here over a pretty busy weekend during the summer because there were pretty much no other options available to book last minute. We needed a place to stay near the Blue Fox Drive In, and at least the Auld Holland fulfilled that need. They had an issue with their washer at the time that meant that we couldn't check in at our assigned check in time because the comforter wasn't cleaned yet. Eventually we were able to just check in and go to the room, though the maid's cart was outside and the door was unlocked so it seems there might have been a communication breakdown about how ready the room actually was. We eventually just went in anyways and closed the door, and the cart stayed there until we had to leave to the drive-in, but there was some anxiety about whether the maid would just come in thinking the room was unoccupied. Overall, the room was fine. If you just need a place to stay, it's passable, but next time it would be better for us to have planned in advance and get an AirBNB or something else. read more

So I gave this lovely place 5 stars because I love places that make me feels relaxed and at home. Every morning when we came in to get breakfast I received a warm good morning darling. The coffee is great, the breakfast is very simple no pancakes or waffles but I still get full. My husband and I stayed in one of the cabins and it was very nice. I was worried when during the day the jets from the naval base were going over and were very loud, but by night time around 9 or 10 it was all quiet. I would gladly stay here again. read more

A dingy little hotel that looks for any excuse to take your $100 deposit because the tourist industry has taken a hit. Every $100 counts. So don't book unless you don't care about them taking your deposit. We supposedly stained a $3 towel so in their minds that is worth $100 never staying with them again. read more

This hotel is the worst place you could choose to stay in Oak Harbor. It is extremely outdated. The wallpaper is peeling off the walls. The so called breakfast is cereal and bagels. The pool is closed. It is adjacent to a trailer park. There are several RVs that people live in permanently. The laundry facility is shared with the trailer park and I believe the washers and dryers are from the 1990s. The management "team" is a bunch of over 300 pound women. They "greet" you, but really are snooping around to see what you are doing. There is no elevator so you get to log your bags up the stair case yourself. Such a wonderful experience. We signed up for the Sip, Savor and Slumber package. Unfortunately, the shuttle driver was sick and Frasers was closed for a special event. They went above and beyond to give us a great stay. The suite with the jetted tub was huge and cozy. They made us other reservations at Rustica, which was delicious and had great live music. RUN!! Our plan was to stay the night rather than drive 3 hours home. Non-refundable, too bad because once we saw the room and its condition (deplorable) we opted to forfeit the money paid and drove home. My wife tried to be a good sport by suggesting she would be willing to sleep in the chair rather than in their bed. Neither one of us were willing to walk barefooted. When we checked for bed bugs we were greeted with lots of little black hairs. The hotel writeup reminisces about the owners buying the property 30 years ago and renovating it to look European. I would suggest, other than new linens, a small flat screened TV, micro fridge and the occasional cleaning, nothing has been done since. read more

I can't tell you when I've had more friendly customer service than when my family and I stayed at the Auld Holland Inn! Jackie, Jill, and Jose went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and taken care of, it was truly heartwarming after the long day of traveling we had been through and I can't thank them enough! The room was very nice, clean, and updated and the main areas were so charming. There is also a complimentary breakfast included! Stayed this is old charming place last weekend for our Whidbey Island Marathon. Wonderful staff with happy smiley faces, so accommodating to the runners, goody bags if missed breakfast time, shuttle buses to transport us back and forth, extra extended check out time.... Very nice motel, and they even have a pool and basketball, so it's kind of a little resort. My room had a fridge and microwave. I was there when the military was doing flight exercises so it was kind of loud until about 10 PM. The breakfast isn't bad for a continental at a motel. Even haver hard boiled eggs, grape juice, coffee. Not sure if I saw any tea. Staff was very nice and respectful, and they have about 50 TV stations, one in Spanish, and i think i saw Hindi and one French from Canada. read more

We stayed there for our second anniversary this weekend. Have to say we were a bit thrown back when we entered the Honeymoon suite it is surely outdated with the curtains and the 20 year old murals on walls not to mention the yellow paint in corners to give it an antique look just made it look like people smoked in it for years. It was like grandma puked all over the place, fake flowers and all. The jetted tub was so cool until we went to run it and the water was brown for a good 20 min and the tub was dirty we cleaned out ourselves. When I told the lady at the front desk she apologized and credited us 30.00 off the bill. It is a big room and with the lights dim and candles lit it was much nicer. It is overpriced for being so out dated I imagine in its day it was amazing. With a little love and attention it could be a great spot but as of now over priced and not as clean as it should be. read more

From the outside this place looked okay. When I walked inside and looked around, at first it sort of creep me out. Everything was old and need to be updated. When I was getting ready for bed, as I remove the cover I found hair on the sheets! Makes me wonder if they change the sheets after each use. This was my second time or third time finding hair on my sheets in different Inns I stayed in!! If you're a light sleeper this isn't the place for you, because there's a air force base right next to it and can be very loud. read more

This place was okay asides from the loud sound from the Navel Base nearby plus the vehicles from the main road in front of the Inn. I know most folks would think this was a run down hotel but I find it interesting and unique. I came into this place late after hours and had to ring the buzzer for service since the main building door was locked for the front desk. The person that was in charge for the night pleasantly answered the call and promptly came to the open the door to help me. I uploaded some pictures I hope you find them useful. They do have wifi but make sure you ask them for the key/password or you won't be able to log into their network. I wasn't provided one and didn't want to wake up the person in charge again. I just had to use my phone for internet that night which wasn't a big deal. read more
