I didn't try the chicken and I personally didn't like the ribs but the brisket and pulled pork were delish. I'm glad I read reviews beforehand and got the bbq sauce on the side. It has somewhat of a different flavor. For sides we got collards, Mac n cheese, fried okra and coleslaw. The sides were so good! One of the guys working there said the fried okra and onion rings are the only items that aren't homemade. We thought $30 for all that food plus 2 drinks was a great deal. We even had leftovers! We feasted. This was a great change-of-pace meal while road trippin' through the Southwest. And most importantly, the BBQ is no joke. Some of the best I've ever had (not sure how much weight that carries from someone from the Bay Area...), as the meats were all rich with flavor and tender and lathered up in sauce. Two time visit in a month! Tritip and brisket plate with cornbread and okra. These are definitely comfort foods. Everything was cooked well the portions were generous and the atmosphere was perfect with outside seating. We spent about two hours eating and talking and drinking the awesome sweet tea. Went back for a second visit about two weeks later to try the rest of the menu. It's worth a stop in. Service is quick and friendly. Just a generally good place to enjoy food and friends. read more

Smokey Mo is F'n great! Collard Greens are the bomb. Me and my folks are from Alabama. My mom said when we walked in the door, the BBQ smells fine. Just get me some of that fried okra and collard greens. It's hard to find collard greens, especially good ones. Another big hit with the family was they had RC, Sweet Tea and Kool Aid. The staff was super nice and since I haven't mentioned it yet... the BBQ was excellent! 3 of us left stuffed from the 4 Meat 4 Side Combo. Love supporting small businesses but this place had a few hiccups. Husband-- a Texas smoker himself is picky when it comes to smoked meats. Meat was too sauced to see a smoke ring. I have a confession, but the confession is basically an endorsement: I don't have any photos of my meal from Smokey Mo. Last night, a couple friends brought over take-out from Smokey Mo for a socially-distanced dinner on my patio, and I could smell the food before they even came up the stairs. I had my phone in hand, but completely abandoned it the second the delicious smell hit me. It was so enticing, I forgot about photos entirely! The barbeque and aides were absolutely delicious! I got a combo meal of one meat, two sides, and a drink: tri tip, mac and cheese, potato salad, and sweet tea. It was all phenomenal. The tri tip was tender and had a great seasoned bark, with a rich smokey flavor that was complemented by the subtly spicy barbeque sauce. The potato salad was very traditional, as was the mac and cheese, and both were great additions to the meal. The sweet tea was excellent as well! It was definitely sugary, but not cloying. While we didn't share food (social distancing!), my friends also loved their meals: pulled pork with coleslaw and fried okra, and tri tip with potato salad and baked beans. The food is subpar. But idk if that is just because we love bbq . The name of the restaurant starts with Smokey so i would assume the meat is smoked, but the briskets texture was as if it was boiled or baked or something along those lines. There were no smoke rings or Smokey flavor to the meat The hot links came with I think two different kinds. One was good and juicy but the other was very dry and the texture was powdery. like it experienced freezer burn or was just old or something. The beans weren't bbq beans or baked beans. They were like refried Mexican beans with no flavor. The ambiance was okay like a typical hole in the wall bbq place. They wrap hot meat in plastic so your order comes with little plastic bits all throughout the meat....... The bbq sauce was ok not great. We had two orders of brisket, one was juicy, the other completely dry. Sides weren't great, I had the greens and they didn't taste seasoned or cooked long enough. Oh, and when I asked about why there was crinkly plastic scraps in our meat, the guy was just like "oh well we wrap it in plastic after it's smoked." OHHH OKAYYY?!! Favorite BBQ in all of Arizona. I have never tasted BBQ this good in a long time. Every time I walk into the local restaurant it feels very comfortable and friendly. The owner is very nice and comes around to make sure the food is good even though he is not a waiter, he just cares that much. My favorite meat they have is pork and it is to die for. The mac and cheese, fries, and beans are currently my favorite sides. The cornbread is very good but personally, it is a little too moist (personal preference) so I will take it home and give it a quick warm-up later that night or the next day and it is amazing. They also have the best sweet tea I have ever tasted, it even beats Cane's sweet tea. I highly recommend going to this local, black-owned, family-owned restaurant and giving support. read more

Third, the FOOD; we were a party of three & we all enjoyed our meals very much! I had the burnt ends with collard greens. The greens were a little bland for my taste. Hubby had two meats: rib tips and brisket and he enjoyed them both. He ordered fries and macaroni and cheese. Fries were tasty, but the mac n cheese was not a hit at our table of 3. Meats were tender and BBQ flavor was perfectly balanced with just enough acid (vinegar) and sweetness. Our daughter ordered their pulled pork tacos and found them to be delicious. They came with an avocado crema, too! They carry RC Cola (taking it back to the old school!) and 7Up in their fountain drink bar! They even had sweet tea and one of my childhood favorites, Strawberry Kool-Aid! We ordered a piece of their homemade sweet potato pie with whipped cream to go, but after taking just a "little bite," we ended up almost demolishing it! Super delish. After reading the reviews, I really wanted to come to Smokey Mo, and I was not disappointed. My husband and I did the sampler platter (four meats, four sides, two drinks), so we could try a number of things, but we ended up with double portions of pulled pork and mac and cheese, because we both wanted those. We also tried the tri-tip and brisket, both excellent with the brisket being slightly more tender and marbled. We also got the potato salad (good) and coleslaw (excellent). The coleslaw was crisp with the right amount of dressing; you can tell it's made to order and not just swimming in the dressing all day. The mac and cheese was very good; I was glad I didn't have to share with my husband! The price was right, too. All that food was $30 (amazing because I spent the same amount on a bbq meal for one at a place in Phoenix a week prior), but I think with inflation, they're going to have to raise those prices. But they're getting them in and getting them hooked. The food is great, service was really friendly, and we were well attended even though it was super busy. We sat on the patio and it was really pleasant. I would love to come back. We talked to the owner for a short bit of time. You can tell his heart is in it. I love to see good people succeeding. I found this place by pure chance. There use to be a bbq food truck out by me and they went out of business, so I have been on the hunt for an amazing tri-tip sandwich like that food truck had. The place is very small--it does have outdoor seating (which would be great if it weren't 110 outside lol) There were only about three tables indoors, this made things a bit cramped as the line grew. I ordered the tri-tip sandwich and fries--the hubby did as well. The food didn't take too long to be brought out to us. The first bite of it was sooooo yummy! Then I realized how much bbq sauce was on it--kind of overpowered it to be honest. The meat itself was good and the fries were amazing. I will be going here again--I will get another tri-tip sandwich but sauce on the side. I also look forward to trying their other meats they have available. I am really mixed on this place. The meat was DELICIOUS! My favorite was the pulled pork. The pulled pork taco was awesome. However, I did not care for the sauce. I was also extremely disappointed in the sides. We got baked beans, Mac & cheese, coleslaw and collard greens and corn bread. The beans were awful- totally not edible. The greens were strange and unlike any I had ever had. The coleslaw was creamy and delicious. The mac & cheese was extremely gritty. The corn bread was phenomenal though! I want to go back to see if the sides were just a fluke considering how much I enjoyed the some other items, and I will just make sure to get the sauce on the side. Let me go on record saying that I absolutely love barbecue. Well I can't say Smokey Mo's was the best I've ever had I'm giving it five stars because I think it is one heck of a value. I went this weekend with my parents and we got the four meat in four side combination. It is an absolute bargain slightly under $30. And all the meats were great. I actually really like the sausage which was rare. My father commented on how tender the brisket was. but I think it's hard to win brisket outside of Texas. Regardless the food was delicious. Probably the weakest thing on the menu was the french fries and the toast. Someone else ordered the onion rings and they looked really good. I will definitely be returning to this establishment and have already recommended it to several neighbors. I believe this is overall a very good value.
