Was here for lunch. Not busy got a table as soon as we walked in. Our server was taking our drink orders in less than 5 min. Of sitting down. There were 4 of us 1 had burger sandwich 1 had crispy chicken sandwich 1 had a loaded baked potato with pulled chicken and side salad I had the 1/2 rack of ribs bake beans with Cole slaw. We went to celebrate my brother's birthday and his last chemo treatment for cancer. There were 6 of us. We ordered and they brought 5 of the meals. After waiting 10 minutes for my meal, I talked to the manager. He told me my meal came out and was not cooked so it was taking longer. I'm out in Indiana visiting family and this is a go to for them so we decided to go. I would have given them 5 stars but it took a while for someone to greet us once we walked in. Our server Victoria was friendly and very attentive. The three of us ladies shared a fried pickles and a Bonfire for 4 ( just so we would have leftovers to bring my brother). The food was all warm and very flavorful. The meats were all moist and had their own distinct flavor. My favorite BBQ sauces were the Carolina Mop and the Mustard. The Bonfire was a great variety of meats and leaves you smelling like you were out camping around the fire. Another amazing thing was that they had Coke Zero on the fountain! There were about 18 of us there for a birthday party. It took a long time to serve us but when the food came no one complained. That's pretty good for a group of that size! The servers were attentive and the menu was much more expansive than those of the other rib joints in town. We ordered their original style ribs, brisket grilled cheese, appetizer shrimp, and for sides, brisket chili, corn bread (pecan butter is amazing), and Mac & Cheese. I know everyone is short staffed and busy, so I'm mindful of that as I write this review. I'm often thought of as the "cool mom" , not to sound cliche', but I meet my children's friends where they and I engage them there without judgment or reproach. This approach has allowed me to be included in dinner/lunch/breakfast invites. I'm grateful for that. Today was such an opportunity. I was invited to a late lunch for early dinner with a small group of young people. That being said: service here was awful today, I'm very comfortable saying it was just plain rude. It bothers me that we had such an experience on this visit. Inattentive staff, missed items on the order and just all around chaos. Undercooked burgers, missing baked beans, dry rice service, no drink refills. I applaud the young people for never even allowing this chaos to change the day or their demeanor. Our view was "things happen". While I agree with this lowkey attitude, I'm still allowed to be disappointed by the service. I leave the type of review an experience deserves and this visit was neither organized nor pleasant. I'm hesitant to return. I feel there are other factors that weighed in on the level of service, but I'll keep that in my mental Rolodex. Everything doesn't have to be shared, just remembered so it isn't repeated. The price of the items are average/ on par with other restaurants that fall into this category. The portion sizes are pretty decent. They also offer great lunch and late night specials. When it comes to bbq, they have a great variety of types of bbq sauces you can try. They even offer some as condiments on the table. In the past, I have been an on again off again fan of this location. Today's experience tipped me in the off-again direction. I was seated at the bar, and everyone was social distanced. After I was seated, the bar got rather full, and we lost all social distance - as well as 50% capacity limit. Managers and Employees remove their masks when there are near the Kitchen service line. Tables were seated close together with no distance between. They do not have barriers between the tables. I ordered my steak, medium well, and 40 minutes later the bartender told me that it would be out soon. I had already seen him in the back, looking for the order. Either it was never placed, or they lost it.At the 64 minute mark, I received a well-done chunk of meat. Up to this point, it was a low-carb meal. When my plate was finished, they asked if I would like a dessert. I stated that no, it did not fit into the low-carb category. I really wanted to like this restaurant because of my love for barbecue. Unfortunately, my expectations were not met. I was excited to see the sampling of barbecue protein on the fire top grill. The best part of the grill would have to be the chicken wings. They had great smoky flavor. Unfortunately the ribs were over cooked and super dry. This is disappointing especially when the restaurant is called Smokey bones. The steak that we ordered medium rare was more on the rare side and had this odd purple tint to it. When the waiter brought out the grill, he cautioned us about the grill cover, as it could not be secured due to being over used. The last disappointing part was we had signed up for the smoky bones club which would give us $10 off our first meal. The waiter could not pull up the account on the website as it was down. Them Ribs fall off the bone. Love the Saint Louis style full rack with them 2 side items. Pretty killer. They could definitely use a color guide for how they cook their meat since they seemed to be a bit different than most. All of the food was terrible!! The half slab of baby back ribs tasted freezer burned and were the size of a quarter of a slab. The baked beans tasted like rewarmed great value canned beans and the pulled pork was a portion for a toddler. We would have returned to the restaurant to complain about the food and the long wait for the food. After this experience I more than likely never visit a Smokey Bones ever again. read more
