This place was EXCELLENT!! Been to a fair bit of BBQ restaurants and I have to say this place is one of the best. Gives any of the restaurants in Indy a run for their money. Stopped in here on a whim and was pleasantly suprised. The Ribs were out of the world, the sauces all tasted so fresh, the baked beans were amazing, Mac and Cheese was too. If I were to knock it at all, I'd say the green beans were just okay. Great old style ambiance inside too and the service was friendly and helpful! Will definitely be back

Two meat plate with burnt ends and pulled pork.

Server at the counter was informative when we asked many questions! Food was overall pretty good, but silver skin was left on the ribs. That was pretty offputting, but the ribs were cooked well and meat fell off the bone. Cornflakes on the potato casserole provided a nice crunch. Green beans were flavored well. Burnt ends were an extra charge, but were mostly fat and flavor wasn't what I had hoped for. Barbecue sauce was good, but not a strong flavor. Atmosphere in the restaurant was casual and comfortable and very family friendly.

Went here six years ago and can't believe took me so long to come back, but hey I'm not from around here! Incredible tap and growler takeout selection, Friday ten buck fills deal is the best I know of. This is the spot to try and discover new delightful stouts, peach wheats, and more. I did both. The Nitro Stout was brooding, bitter, bold, and throwing down all without apology. Most everyone liked the peach ale much better, fine for me too but past weekend had me in that black is best and can't go back mood. From what I recall six years ago, BBQ and sides are rocking, can get very busy and slow during the rush. Best to time your arrival with the Google traffic and busy meters. This is a woody and enjoyable atmosphere with great staff. Easy to recommend!

Full slack of ribs! The diner comes with 2 sides

If you are in the mood for a great BBQ dinner or meal this is one of the best places in town. We have been several times and we have never been disappointed. Name it a half rack dinner with 2 sides, brisket, pulled pork nachos or fries, everything is simply delicious. We never have to wait long to get our food in our table. Servers are always cleaning up or asking if we need anything. And if you want to watch a game or have a cold beer. This is your place as well. Enjoy!

Downright awesome BBQ... My wife is from the south, and Shigs In Pit rivals it all (no joke)... We just moved to Fort Wayne and we're shocked at the BBQ. We've been to Shigs in Pit several times now and the BBQ is always excellent with great beer (courtesy of Mad Anthony's)... The restaurant is new, clean, and has a really good atmosphere. We generally get the ribs and pulled pork, but tried the jalapeño sausage this time, which was really good. Also, all of the sides are very good as well.... Highly recommend Shigs in Pit if you're looking for some good BBQ and brew.

Beautiful place inside. The food smells amazing. Staff was quick & friendly. My nachos were watered down with little meat, unfortunately. The pork rinds were bland, but the mac & cheese was delicious.

Stopping at Shigs In Pit on our drive back to Grand Rapids from Dayton is becoming something of a tradition. Nate and I have been there four times now, and it's usually great. This time I decided to try some different menu items which I think is where I went wrong. I really wanted to try their brisket, but didn't necessarily want a whole platter or a sandwich. Unfortunately they don't offer any meat by weight unless you're getting takeout... which I don't really get, but okay. I decided to get the one meat platter with the green chile mac and cheese and fries. I also got some wings with the Carolina mustard sauce. Nate got the pulled pork sandwich, as usual. The food is brought out to your table and it's always been quick. The pulled pork sandwich was delicious - I always say I should just get that next time. The pork is flavorful and juicy, and you can add any of their four house sauces that are at the table. I usually really like their smoked wings but have always gotten them with the dry rub. The Carolina mustard sauce was just way too vinegary for both of us. I usually like this type of sauce a lot, so that was a little disappointing. Finally, the brisket was not what I was expecting. It was sliced super thin and when I asked for a fattier cut when ordering, I was basically told they couldn't do that. I have asked this at other BBQ places so I'm not sure how they do it here. The brisket itself was okay. I just am used to thicker slices with more bark and a bit more flavorful. The mac and cheese and fries were great and we usually get them every time. We'll still keep stopping at this Shigs In Pit, but next time I'll stick with the pulled pork sandwich and dry rub wings.

Smoked Chopped Chicken. Apple Pie BBQ Beans. Green Chile Mac N Cheese and garlic toast.

Arrived around 12:15pm on a Saturday. The place was half full. Inside décor was rustic. Kind of like a barn. I didn't have to wait long after entering. I was asked dine in or carry out. I wanted dine in. She asked what I would like, and I said I would like to try some of the beer you have on tap. I was directed to the bar section. The bar tender asked if I wanted a dine in menu with the drink menu? Yes. It looked like there were around 20 beers on tap. I chose a pint of the Irish Red. Man was it delicious! I love a good red beer. After looking over the food menu I ordered the chopped smoked chicken. A side of apple pie baked beans and green Chile mac n cheese. The meal also came with a slice of garlic toast. Everything was delicious. My food was delivered within ten minutes. The cost was just under $23.00. I would definitely like to try some of there other menu items! I only had two small complaints: 1. When the bar tender asked me if I wanted another beer, I said "No, I'm ready to go." Instead of going to get my bill, she went over to another customer to finish their conversation on television shows. 2. I asked to order a 4 pack of the Irish red to take with me. The bartender told me I had to do that at carry out. Okay. I head over to carry out after paying the bartender for my drink and meal. Carry out tells me I have to order the 4 pack at the bar. I replied the bartender told me I had to do it at carry out. Carry out finally rings me up. I pay and am told I have to pick it up at the bar! What kind of kangaroo operation is this place running?

Ribs and well-done brisket....it is closer to bacon than brisket

I discovered Shigs in Pit off a list of top BBQ joints in Indiana. I did some research on Yelp as all 3 locations had over 4 stars so it became my destination for BBQ in Fort Wayne. There was more good but I'm going to go over the good, the bad, and the ugly. Starting with the good: the ribs were meaty and delicious. I would eat ribs here again with no hesitation. There are 3 wonderful sauces - tangy (vinegar), sweet (ketchup base) and hot (ketchup base). The hot has substantial heat. The tangy would go well with pulled pork, not ribs or brisket. The green Chile mac and cheese was unique as it was a spicy mac and cheese. It was creamy and cheesy. The beans were also impressive as they were made from apple pie filling giving them a very sweet taste. The bad - the brisket. Who likes their brisket well-done? It was sliced really thin and was closer to bacon than brisket. If you like bacon, you would love it. The ugly - no surprise here. Today, I questioned if Gold Peak Tea is better than no sweet tea. I would also like to argue Gold Peak tea from a machine is not really tea but an awful abomination that is a substitute for sweet tea. In the end since it is in Indiana, I accepted by the narrowest of margins that Gold Peak tea is better than no sweet tea. There you have it. Come for the ribs and sides and avoid the brisket.

5 dry rub. Spoon cornbread. Mac and cheese.

Shigs is a welcome spot in NE Fort Wayne. While not a "brewery" it is ran by the owners at Max Anthony so there are plenty of brews on tap from the good folks. The bbq itself is also quite solid, and there are some nice sandwich and side options as well. I love the wings, always big and juicy. Several sauce options, but the dry rub is always a fine choice as well. Great place to grab a pint and a nice bbq meal. Worth checking out

Started w/soup: Hubby had chicken corn chowder and I had the brothy potato, green bean, and kielbasa (both soups pictured together). Both were great in flavor but were only just warm in temp, not hot as we would've preferred. The brothy kielbasa soup also needed a bit more seasoning. We didn't complain, as they were still tasty! Hubby got the wonderfully delicious and warm Pear, Brie, and Ham sandwich on a crusty loaf (pictured). One of the best ham sandwiches ever, he said. Highly recommends! Comes with chips . I got the special Late Summer Blue Crab Salad (pictured) which I was surprised to discover came with no salad greens, or not even, perhaps, toast points or crackers. I did ask for a side of arugula ($2) and the combo of fresh, summery crab salad and greens was delectable! This was a seasonal offering and today, I'm told, was its last day of availability. Had the soup been hot, this would've been a 5-star lunch!

Tasteful decor, albeit the bar, patio (seasonal, of course), or main dining area. Choice of booth or table seating. Can be a bit noisy, when tables of patrons forget they're not the only guests in the room, but not to the level that drowns out your own table conversation. Service is usually impeccable and Kiersten (our server the past 2 visits) exemplifies that: knowledgeable, attentive but not intrusive, kind, efficient, pleasant. Hubby had the not-your-ordinary wedge salad as a starter (pictured). Bacon, tomato, bleu cheese crumbles, hard boiled egg, and a creamy balsamic dressing. Very tasty! Me, always a sucker for good French onion soup (pictured), which I always order with no bread or croutons. Broth has authentic rich flavor with just the right amount of simmered onions. The only thing that might have made it even better would have been the use of Gruyere (or Swiss, instead of what seemed to be mozzarella) for the cheesy melt topping the delicious soup. Our chosen entrees tonight were the cashew crusted Mahi Mahi (pictured) served with orzo and fresh green beans, and the seared tuna (pictured) served on an umami blend of Napa cabbage and broccoli lightly dressed in sesame ginger, just-right heat, and peanuts. SO good! Oh...and you can see by the pics that the portions are well presented and generous enough to have some for lunch the next day! Truly a local fav! Great place for lunch or dinner!

It can be found across the parking lot from Buffalo Wild Wings. There is always plenty of parking near the door. The restaurant is large with an inviting & modernly decorated bar and dinning area. The team here is very friendly and professional. They never disappoint. Making reservations on line is easy. I would definitely recommend reservations! On this night we were seated in the indoor-outdoor dining area. This area is more open, well lit and less intimate than the man dinning area. There were two large groups (12 and eight) seated in this area - nice for larger gatherings. You have a nice view of the lit outdoor fire place. BC has a very large menu. There is something for everyone. Overall BC is rather pricey but not as expensive as some. We started with our favorite corn bread appetizer. It's a simple 2-3 person dish. The bread is more like a southern cake than a traditional corn bread. The inside is soft, sweet and moist. The whipped butter is fluffy, smooth and makes a delicious accent to the corn bread. My wife ordered the southwest grilled chicken salad. She said the chicken was perfectly grilled and moist. The lettuce and fixings were very fresh. The dressing was very light and had a hidden cayenne pepper kick. The salad seemed to grow as you got to the bottom of the bowl - lol. My house salad was also very fresh. Plenty of side items to accent the lettuce. The buttermilk ranch dressing is somewhat unique. It has a smooth and light buttermilk texture without a strong buttermilk flavor. There are hints of ranch dressing flavors. Nicely done! I ordered the BC meatloaf. This was a mountain of deliciously blended types of meats, onions, peppers & spices. You could pick up the short rib, brisket, bacon and ground chuck flavors. The collection was moist, nicely spiced & seasoned and delicious! There was plenty of fresh and perfectly steamed broccoli - nice crisp. The Mac & cheese side was done to perfection! Nicely cooked noodles along with a very smooth & creamy white cheese sauce. It was so delicious that I had to scrap the sauce from the bottom of the dish. Overall, Black Canyon is an outstanding place to dine. You always feel special whether it's a special occasion or just dinner out. Time in and time out...food & service are outstanding!!
