Half rack of ribs with 1/4 BBQ chicken, Cole slaw and baked beans.
Eric B.

Grabbing dinner with my son before work, yes we both work overnight, we decided to have Smokey Bones. I had seen an advertisement for a half rack of ribs for $10, and a whole rack for $15, each with 2 sides. This is a limited-time offer, through February. It was really slow that night and we were seated right away. While it took a few minutes to be acknowledged, once we were seen, all was well. I ordered the half rack of ribs and added a 1/4 BBQ chicken ($15). My son had a new menu item, shrimp and grits ($20). The food arrived after a reasonable wait and was warm and flavorful. Turns out the shrimp and grits were missing the special butter and mushrooms. The staff was quick to fix it and even gave us a minor (10%) discount. Overall, this is a decent chain place for BBQ. It's relatively pedestrian, but sometimes that's all you want. The discount ribs made it a value at $50 including sodas and 20%+ tip.

This restaurant was my first ever visit to any Smokey Bones. I loved it then and still love eating from there now. I ordered takeout, and it was not busy on a late raining Saturday night. I decided to buy the 3 favorites Create Your Own Combo of 2 orders of 4 bone-in wings and ¼ BBQ chicken with fire-roasted corn and wtih broccoli without salt and with Cajun and Mesquite rubs. It came with 2 toasts. So delicious for $24.99. I had a coupon for $10 off $20 order at Smokey Bones so it would have been about the cost of going to Golden Corral (I did not know they were actually open because no one answered their phone).

It had been many years since we had been here so it was time to come back. The restaurant still has the awesome aroma of smoked meat as soon as you walked in which made me happy. Their food has always been stellar in the past and this was no exception. I had some of their Boneless Wings with their Buff-A-Que sauce. These were some really good wings and that sauce is top notch (a combination off bbq and Buffalo sauce.) High recommendation for those. The fries I got on the side were average although it was a good way to try out all the bottles of bbq sauce on the table. My son got their Ribeye with mashed potatoes and gravy as well as some fries. He enjoyed that very much. The service was decent enough and the restaurant was clean and pleasant. All in all another great visit to Smokey Bones.

One steak was good the other was tough. Not many customers and seemed to be light on service (servers there were nice/friendly). We got a piece of chocolate cake to go... Unfortunately we received a dried out piece and didn't find out until we got home that night. I don't mean a piece of cake that was dry, I mean a completely dry piece of inedible waste of $9. Disappointed.

We LOVE this place. BOGO wings on Monday with amazing sauce choices, and they are ALL delicious. They have a great happy hour and some fabulous BOGO meal specials throughout the week. Kara is a delight. She is very friendly and attentive. She is the icing on the cake to our visit. This has been our go to place for nearly 3 months during our stay in Kentucky. We will miss this place and Kara when we return home.

There's always room for dessert; so I'll start there :c) sadly they ran out of cornbread and were unable to make the Strawberry Shortcake Sundar which was disappointing. I opted for the Strawberry Cheesecake which was not good at all. They place strawberry concentrate on the plate then place the cheesecake atop of that; sadly the crust sops up the concentrate making the base of the cheesecake soggy; additionally they do not place fresh strawberries like the menu photo, they use frozen or from concentrate so presentation wise does not look good. The crust was also dry and the cheesecake very thick, didn't have the creamy cheesecake texture one would expect. Now that we have gotten dessert out of the way. The sweet tea is just that lol sweet, so if you are not a fan of sweet sweet sweet, ask for them to make it half and half (they'll know what it means) essentially they will blend half of their sweet tea with unsweetened tea and you'll be all set with a perfect blend of a nice sweet iced tea. I had the brisket which was delicious, I was pleasantly surprised to see that their brisket did not have a lot of fatty parts so I was very happy about that. I opted for the Mac n. cheese as the side, which was good with the right amount of crunch and crust on top, could have done with a little more kick and spice but good nonetheless. Server was warm and welcoming and provided sufficient time to review the menu.

I'm rating this restaurant three stars based on my first visit a few weeks ago. I think they could do better and easily get a four star rating from me. The reason for the one star deduction is, I thought the customer service was lacking. We walked in the door and there was no one at the host station. There was a young girl on the phone a few feet back, but no one acknowledged us for at least five minutes. We could've easily walked out and back in and out and in and out and then again and no one would've noticed. while we were standing there, we were looking around the dining room, and noticed that there were many empty tables, they didn't appear to be too busy that evening. When the server took our drink orders, my husband ordered his usual old-fashioned, but what they brought him was not an old-fashioned. He said it tasted awful. The server said she was sure it was an old-fashioned (but anyone who drinks this will definitely know what it should taste like). He said "I can't drink this so I'd like to have a jack and Coke instead, and I will pay for the awful drink if you need me to". The server said OK and walked away... she left the awful drink on the table and did not apologize - and we were disappointed to find that the drink showed up on our receipt at the end of the meal. Of course, we just paid it and left a tip accordingly, but based on this experience, it's pretty clear that customer service and guest experience is not their top priority. The food was good, not great, but certainly good, and if barbecue is what you're craving, you wouldn't be disappointed.

A sampler splitter.

The…read morereviews were solid but when we went on a Tuesday, we were a bit concerned because there was nobody there... Peak lunch hour. So either it's just not popular for lunch or it was just an off day. Our group ordered and we were relieved as 4 more patrons walked in... But even during our stay, no more people came in. Well... Our group ate our words and stuffed our faces with some really good barbecue. We all mostly got sandwiches but these sandwiches were huge honking sandwiches. I think our waitress said it was half a pound. I ordered the brisket sandwich and macaroni and cheese. The mac and cheese was creamy and warm. I was hoping for a sharper bite of cheese flavor but it was still good nonetheless. The brisket sandwich was really really good. It wasn't sliced brisket but was more "pulled" consistency, like pulled pork. It was moist and tender (not dry at all). The sauce was perfectly sweet and complimented the smoky, rich brisket. My colleagues couldn't finish theirs but one ordered the chicken sandwich and another a pork. All of them were pulled consistency and had excellent flavor of their respective meat (chicken and pork) but I preferred the brisket. Do yourself a favor if your craving barbecue and come to Smokin' This and That!

Overall atmosphere is a bit over the top. Pros: The ribs were meaty, the pork sandwich was piled high. Cons: The coleslaw was mushy and tasteless, the Mac and cheese was inedible, 2 different beers we tried were flat, we did not like the BBQ sauce.

The Fat Man tries to find hidden gems, holes in the walls, or any small mom-and-pop establishment…read morewith good food. While traveling in northern Kentucky, he stumbled upon one of these places, The Farmstand Market & Cafe. Farmstand offers comfort food with a farm-to-table focus served in a cozy space with a bar and attached market. We started with the Goetta Hanky Panky Dip. This was made with cheesy goetta, bagel chips, pumpernickel bread, and light rye served in a cast iron skillet. The dip had a good sausage flavor with salt and some light spice while being cheesy, creamy, and full of flavor. The bagel chips were very crispy but were not served warm. The pumpernickel and rye were dry. Each complimented the dip, adding texture to the bite. My wife had the Reuben Sandwich. This sandwich came with sliced corned beef, homemade Thousand Island, pickled pig sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese on light rye with bacon ranch pasta salad. The pasta salad was cooked spot on while also being creamy. The bacon added crunch and saltiness to the salad. The rye had a great toast, and the Thousand Island was tangy and creamy. The pastrami was dry but had a good salty flavor. The sauerkraut was crunchy and had a good sour flavor cutting through the salty meat and the sweet dressing. The cheese was gooey and nutty and added flavor to each bite. I sampled the French dip sandwich and Mulligatawny soup. This was prepared with a sliced top round with provolone on a French roll. The soup was prepared with rice, chicken, carrots, onions, celery, lentils and spices. The chicken was very tender, the rice was cooked well, and the vegetables added texture to the rice. The soup was flavorful, had a wonderful aroma, and had a good salt content. The top round was thin and offered good flavor and chew. The roll was fresh and had a good chew paired with the ooey and gooey cheese with an excellent buttery flavor. The au jus had good flavor but was slightly salty, which overpowered it. Farmstand offers grilled cheeses, hot sandwiches, burgers, salads, appetizers, soups and main entrees. They also serve beer and have a full bar. The servers were pleasant and knowledgeable. The Fat Man says that The Farmstand Market & Cafe is Fat Man Approved with 1 chin.

Great food and service…read more On a recent trip we were looking for something local to dine at and came across this restaurant. It is located next to the grocery store. It is located in a Kroger strip mall area but is slightly higher class than what one might think when they hear that. It was a weird off-peak time so it was no issue getting seated right away and service was pretty good. We started our late lunch and our vacation with a cocktail, both of which were pretty tasty! I wanted to make sure I got some veggies in me before a week+ of vacation eating, so I got a side salad, which was pretty ample for a side! I also got the mushroom ricotta dip appetizer as a "meal" and it was pretty delicious! Cheese, mushrooms and carbs...you can't go wrong with that in my opinion! We had an okay time, and we were able to dawdle and not be rushed. It wasn't our first choice on the day and likely wouldn't be at another time, but it was more than decent as a secondary/back-up choice for a place to eat.
